Finally, the time has come where I give Tomi P his much-deserved credit and attention! He asked me months ago if I'd be willing to make a video for this cover when it came out, and I've had to resist watching since it was released last week so I could do a FIRST-TIME REACTION. Needless to say, I think he did a fantastic job and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Which of Tomi P's covers do you want me to react to/analyze next??
This is the first time I've seen it as well, I was hoping one of the reaction channels I watch would do one. This comment is of course before the video begins. :P I presume you've seen most of them, but any that you haven't. They're all good, and first time reactions are always better IMHO. If you've seen them all, I'd love to know your thoughts on No Time To Die. On the topic of first time reactions, they're better, yeah, but if you can't do them just let us know. No need to fake it, the reaction and analysis is the interesting part anyway. :) EDIT: So some additional things, I agree with you mostly on the tiring out when recording bit. I've found that the best sounding recordings are almost always either like 5+ takes in, or the very first take, depending on what you're doing. Sometimes you start at the bottom and work up, sometimes you start at the top and fade down. That's the way it always worked when I was recording. Haven't done one in a few years though, so I might have lost some skill. :P Also if you'd be interested, I'd love to get a professional and classically trained singer's take on these various bass techniques, fry and growl and inhale, and such (subharmonics as well). I think I know a lot of what they are, but my music education cut short and I never learned a lot of this stuff. I'm sure there'd be about a million or so people who'd like that as well. Video idea? Short series maybe? Could call it the Barber Shop.
He unquestionably did one of the better versions of My Mother Told Me (although the lyrics do bother me, I mean is it a Barque or is it a Galley? And what are you trying to do steering from the bow? What are you new?!? But that's not Tomi's fault and its a great tune) The one with Change is on the Rise with Misty Mountains mixed in is really neat. We would NOT be mad at you if you did My Boy, self serving? A little bit. Fan service? Definitely. but maybe keep it for the third or forth of his. LOL.
That was an epic reaction my man! Thank you for that 😍 You're pretty much spot on about everything. Just few notes, the beggining G1 was actually in subharmonics, just mixed in in different way than I usually do with boosted frequencies around 2k - 5kHz. Surprisingly works well for subharmonics texture. The one that you thought is D0 for a second is indeed a D1 but in chest-fry. I extended my range as possible for that in the morning but worked out in the end 😎
Well done tomi!!!!!!! That’s amazing you did that in chest fry!!! That is truly something to be proud of!!!!!! ever since I fell in love with growl notes when I heard Tim Foust do them I always like hearing other bass singers do them. Amazing piece tomi!!! Well done!!!!
So Tomi actually did make it down to a D1 chest fry in this, and the G1 at the beginning was in subharmonics. Great reaction/analysis as always, you give a very in depth view and it's so great.
Amazing analysis of an amazing singer/arrangement! - Tomi's fucking INSANE and it's nuts that he's seemingly making better and better content; I think something incredibly understated is his use of percussion in that breakdown, the thing that makes that standalone D1 growl for me is that hard kick as the D1 ends - it's so good because not only is it impressive and a nice break in a fast paced song but it also adds this satisfying finality to that breakdown which makes you want to both go back and re-listen and tha's something I hear even time honoured professional groups missing. Also, the continuous double snares he uses are SO nice. That use of percussion was super evident in this one for me, and when you look at that alone, then when paired with his amazing vocal arrangement, you really start to see the genuine scale of what he does - It's very easy for normal viewers or even singers with a lack of experience (like myself) to listen to that and think on some level "I could do that" but when you start breaking it down, you live in utter amazement at the subtle mastery and genuineness of complexity in which Tomi is able to weave into his musical tapestries; that for me is the absolute sign of a phenomenal artists, when they make incredibly difficult achievements sound casual and easy... and he's only getting better...
This was great! I love the Star Wars feel. You were thinking of "Revenge of the Sith" I think. I recommend his cover of "Hellfire" next. Would love to see you react to something of Bobby Bass's.
First off, I hope you're feeling *much* better now. Tomi P.'s been this Gangsta's second favorite Bass Gang member for some time, so I'm glad you're reacting to him now. I'd love to see you react to his cover of My Mother Told Me, if for no other reason than to compare it to VoicePlay's cover (Which I'd love to see you do, too)In the meantime, thank you for fighting through your sore throat for this, and *please* take care of yourself, you are a Treasure!
From the opening notes, one wouldn’t think a low bass singer was creating this masterpiece. What? 5# octaves? The arrangement is so incredible. Of course you won’t notice that Tomi is a physically beautiful man. Next: react to his cover of “No Time to Die.”
YESS! He seriously deserves a shit ton of credit, such amazing talent. It was such a privilege to see the work behind it, and your reaction is just gold!
This is by far my favorite cover of this song acapella or otherwise Tomi really stretching his vocal legs for us. Thank you for getting this reaction out so quickly esp while not tip top . Again it's fun to see how much you are enjoying listening while informing us what it is that gets your attention pulling it to ours
My first time experience watching your reaction and, Peter, I haven’t enjoyed one so much for a veeery long time. It’s good you keep finding time and doing these. Very interesting to go with you through the analysis, being myself a total limo…so, thanks!! Can’t wait to see more of them and another Bass Gang production. Hope you guys are working on something nowadays:)) I just changed fuses and the new ones are prepared and ready to be popped again;))))
I totally feel what you were saying about the high belts I just could help but giggle a bit at the thought of G4 being high chest. Being a mezzo myself the bass voice is such an alien voice to me but it sounds awesome
Excellent. Thanks for the introduction to Tomi. Would you please at least consider reacting to Jonathan Young's Hellfire, and maybe something by Dan Vasc?
I’ve suggested Dan Vasc before too. Listen to Tears of the Dragon or Dawn over a New World, then go to Scarborough Fair and Angels we have heard on high, to compare his talent.
Fascinating! great to hear you flag up a load of things I can try to pick up on the next listen! The original track never gets old for me, but that was such a nice new spin on it, I tweeted Annie Lennox with the link to it, I hope she hears it! I'm learning so much music theory from you, thank you!!
Please react to Tomi’s “Hellfire” or “My Mother Told Me.” For a fun and incredible listen, check out his “Avi Kaplan Medley ft. Efe Sayin (with Tim Foust cameo).”
I just got to catch this video from Tomi yesterday. I have been waiting SOOOOOOOO long for someone to bass cover this song. I had mentioned on his page that my favorite version of this song had actually always been Marilyn Manson's version. Tomi just raised the bar tho!! This was absolutely AMAZING and I loved it. That opening had me in goosebumps already! I was stoked to see where he could take it from there. I was in awe with this. Again thank you for your in depth analysis, I love when u break things down and explain every little piece.
Watching this, I tried to inhale sing. It didn't work, thought it was odd. Cleared my throat many times, still doesn't work. Then I went to sing that G1 in chest fry instead. But somehow ended up hitting it in our chest, then a C1 in chest fry right after... what?!? Guess Tomi and Elliot Robinson just gifted me the bass like Obito... IYKYK

The mashup of Misty Mountains and Change on the rise he did with his brother would be awesome!
Hellfire
Can you do his cover of No Time To Die? It’s one of my favorite tracks of his, huge display of his range.
That was an epic reaction my man! Thank you for that 😍

Great video bro!! Would be awesome if you could do a session break down for any of your songs - would love to see how you mix/produce your stuff :)

love your stuff man
A D0 isn’t even a thing. Well it is but it’s so low the human ear can’t pick it up. The lowest note on the piano is an A0. Still incredible tho
His voice always gives me shivers. Amazing!! ❤ And you all together forget bout it! Lol
Super glad you liked the video! :)
We had a fun time filming it - Lights were DOPE to manage! :DDD

Started following Tomi because of your reaction. Thanks.
Tomi is a delight to my ears. Such a cool take on the song.
This is one of my fav song and I’m glad that a bass covered it.
Also, the matter of fact mention of LOTR and a balrog brought a smile to my face.

I love the dark feel that he gives to this amazing song! Good job, give us more please🤩

Love this song and this was a fun rendition of it. Nice throwback. And nice references to starwars too. Fun reaction Peter.
Thanks for your reaction and analysis
Hell yeah! I’ve been absolutely obsessed with this cover and have been excitedly waiting for your reaction to it!
Please react to Tomi’s “Hellfire” or “My Mother Told Me.” For a fun and incredible listen, check out his “Avi Kaplan Medley ft. Efe Sayin (with Tim Foust cameo).”
Tim Storms - Lonesome road. Period.

Check out Diana Ankudinova - Can't help falling in love
Before I watch this video, is this Sweet Dreams by Annie Lennox?
EDIT: yes in fact, it is.
this was a slick version of this song
You didn't react to that D6? Why?
Cool how the video has a disconnect robot movement
