The f2 trio was designed with the Xpro line of cameras in mind. That is why they are conical in shape. That cone shape helps minimize the amount that they intrude into the view of the optical view finder.
The Fuji 50mm f2 has started to grow on me. I used to use my 56mm f1.2 for basically entire weddings, but I've started to only really use it during the formal portraits. Everything else I use the 50mm f2 for. The autofocus on the f2 is in an entirely different league than the f1.2, and I trust it way more. I definitely agree with your opinion of the sharpness, and especially for black and white the images definitely have more bite to them than the 56mm. I don't think from a character perspective that the 50mm f2 can directly compete with the 56mm, but in MOST circumstances I'd argue that it doesn't matter. Having a great moment in focus is more important than bokeh rendering, and there are a lot of cases where the 56mm just won't keep up and the 50mm will. When you have the opportunity to slow down though, and spontaneity doesn't matter the 56mm produces images that the 50mm just cannot. I love them both, and they're both always with me at weddings.
Another great vid! The 50mm f2 was my first proper walkaround prime. It meant I could get great shots from across the street, allowing me distance from subjects while I built confidence and learned technique. Everything you've said about this lens is absolutely true and it is definitely the most underrated of the XF trio.
thank you! and honestly that is such a good point. it’s so difficult for new street photographers to get close because it’s such a different experience. i wish i would’ve started with the 50mm f2! 😂
I can corroborate everything that you said in this excellent review. I have all of the Fujicrons (I include the 16mm f/2.8 in this set even though it's a stop slower) and when you need to isolate and extract a subject from the clutter, the 50mm at full aperture is the tool to get the job done. I've been using the 50mm and 16mm as a mini travel kit, and feel that there is no compromise or and reason to apologize for the results from either lens.
thank you! and that’s a solid combo. the 16 2.8 has had my interest for a while, it seems to be a great performer based on what i’ve seen & what you said. glad you’ve been enjoying them, happy shooting out there Albert 🙏🏾
That's quite the interesting combination and the first time I've heard of it. Going to give that combo a try (since I only have those two Fujicrons and not the 23 or 35 😅)
I love this Lens. It matches exactly my natural telephoto distance. I was using it yesterday and it’s amazing how natural it feels. The subject is at the distance I see with me eyes. Very little movement on my part for crafting my composition. Excellent video 👍🏽
Long time, many decades Canon shooter here. Sold all of it to move to Fuji. Fuji glass is among the best that I have ever used, including Canon “L” series lenses.
Finally my used version arrived, yes I love the 50 f2 lens, had one in 2016 until my house was robbed. I just got a used XF 35mm F1.4 classic, which also got stolen. I needed one to be F1.4 for sunset in the city. Am set for Primes!
Two out of three Fujicrons for me. The 23mm f2 was just middling for me, it just lacked pop and snare, plenty will disagree. Skipped the 35mm f2 because I already own the legendary f1.4. But the 50mm f2 is really something - it's just such a jewel for capturing portraits of living and even inanimated subjects.
Thanks for this very nice and informative video. I am about to add 50mm to my collection. It is interesting to hear you compare this lens to the "standard" portrait lenses which are the 85mm. I didn't find any convenient and convincing 85 for my full frame camera, so I thought why not turn to my Fuji world, and as the 56 is a bit too expensive ( and too heavy), it feels like the 50 is a natural choice after all👌👌
thank you! glad one of my first videos is still helpful. i’m with you though, to this day i still don’t find the 85mm equiv. very convenient, but 75mm is just right 🙏🏾
I had this lens and the 35f2… I thought it was great but for some reason I never picked it up. Being self taught I thought I needed to simply what I was trying to do. But I will say this was a really good lens.
nothing wrong with that, definitely learn various things at different times throughout the journey. regardless you made great decisions, i’d put the f2 trilogy against ANY lenses on the market.
I had the Viltrox 33mm f1.4 and 23mm f1.4. Quickly sent both back because of excessive CA and vignetting. Have the Fuji 16mm f2.8 and it's a great lens.
ahh i hear you. the viltrox trio across copies definitely has its pros and cons. hopefully sigma can come up with consistent, fuji-like quality for their x-mount lenses (if it ever happens)
@@doriyancoleman I have the Tokina ATX-M 33mm f1.4 which is basically the same lens from the Chinese no-name lens factory, but unlike Viltrox who reversed engineered everything themselves, Tokina paid Fujifilm to supply the mount, contacts, and Fuji firmware for their lens. So you can update the ATX-M firmware just like any Fuji lens, instead of having to use the micro-USB port like the Viltrox lenses have. Plus so far, no CA or vignetting.
now that’s interesting. i was tossing around trying out voigtlander’s 35 1.2 MF lens as my next 50mm equivalent, but now you’ve brought my attention to the tokina!
@@doriyancoleman You won't go wrong with any of the Voigtlander lenses, except possibly the 35mm f1.4 SC and 35mm f1.4 MC which is why Voigtlander released a version II for both lenses. I've used Voigtlander lenses on my Fuji X-E2 and my M8 and M9. The one thing I don't like about the Tokina is the declicked aperture ring. When I want to move it, it seems hard to move but yet it seems to easily by accident, so I am checking the aperture constantly.
I'm going to sell off the viltrox 56mm and rokinon 12mm to pick up the 50mm f/2. I had a dust problem with the viltrox (it sucks it up like crazy) though I like the lens itself. I like the 75mm over 85mm and the smaller size.
ahhh man i’m sorry to hear that, the weather / dust resistance on the 50mm f2 will certainly help you out. definitely agree with 75mm vs 85mm too. thanks for watching!
I agree. The only downside was that the 50mm f2's AF dragged its ass on my X-Pro1, especially with the viewfinder in Optical mode. But on my X-T2 and X-H1 the AF is fast.
Nice images from CLE! Yes, who would want “clinical sharpness” in a portrait lens? Unless you enjoy spending extra time in post-processing removing all of the skin blemishes/imperfections your clinically sharp lens captures??? 🤔
Ur boy Dee sent me. I like to shoot a lot of old 50mms on my xt2. That's why I have never considered the Fujifilm 50mm. Good luck on the climb. Keep up the good work.
I’m a new subscriber 🙋♂️ . I bought this lens with my xs10 but i never used non af lens now i don’t know how to use this lens 🥺 .... can you please please please explain me how to use and operate this lens 🙏

two great cameras and two great lenses!

Great review. Team Dee and Doriyan....watch you guys for solid reviews.
I just got this lens and did 2 portrait shoots this past weekend along with the 35mm f2 and the 16-80mm f4. I couldn't be happier.
that’s a powerful kit. i’d put the fuji f2 lenses against any other brand on the market. the 16-80 is also underrated!
@@doriyancoleman Agreed! I don't feel as if I'm lacking. The red badge line and f1.x lenses are cool, but not must haves.
Bravo! Very well done, straightforward and succinct review. Keep up the good work.
thank you david! more videos coming soon

Great review and happy to see how much your channel has grown 👊
i appreciate that jared thank you!
Thanks for your video. You're making great sense having this lens. I'll be getting one soon!
happy to hear that john! thanks for watching. you’re about to make some good stuff with it 🔥
Has the new 1.2 WR changed your thoughts at all?
Hey Doriyan, thats a mighty fine looking camera behind your right shoulder. Thanks for the video. A new XPRO3 owner with 23mm f2 WR
i’m gonna need to watch this video back and see what was behind me 😂
you’re going to love them, hold that 23mm f2 tight!

Easily one of the top 5 sharpest lenses I’ve ever used. Enjoy it!
Don't forget how close the 50mm can focus, the minimum focus compared to the 56mm f1.2 is insane. I have both and indeed, it's underrated.
Just found your channel I want say great videos man! I’ve been trying to get the 50mm f2 for a while looks like an amazing lens
that means a lot thank you! save some money and get it used if you can, still a favorite all this time later 🙏🏾

for sure! and i haven’t used it, but dee rosa has great videos on it
Love these photos bro. Can’t wait to get out there with you.
thank you, always appreciate the support!
So true as you’ve said. The lens is a brilliant performer, period.
100%! happy shooting and thanks for watching
Nice video!!! Definitely will think bout picking this lens up to add to my gear!!! Thank you for sharing your opinion :)
glad you enjoyed it! certainly an overlooked piece of glass

I bought it today, I trust you ..😀👍😀👍😀
you won’t regret it! those f2’s are gold.
I have the trio and the 34 is my least used. 23 all day, 50 occasionally. It is great.
same here john. if we’re talking the trio, 23 all day as well, probably my all time favorite fuji lens tbh. we agree that the 50 is great!
@@doriyancoleman I also agree that the 23 f2 is maybe my favorite all time lens haha
Trio? Wasn't the 16 2.8 also part of the Fujicron?
