    Hi Roman, I am fortunate to have the 23mm, 35mm & 50mm “Fujicrons.” I appreciate their small form factor & they are a joy to use. They make for a light compact kit & they offer a tremendous value for their respective price points.😊👌👍

    Really loved how you had the video rolling while you took pics. Helped me understand a bit better what environments the 50mm would work and distance I would need for the shot I’d want.
    Also was impressed with the double duty (photo / video) and how quickly you manged to get such great results bud. All the years of taking pics. Good on ya.

    Great review; concise and solid. Love the 50mm; I traded my 56mm 1.2 for it. The 50mm is much smaller and lighter and a lot snappier; the 56 is a bit sluggish and prone to hunting. Also, to me 50mm is a more versatile focal length.

    Roman what are your thoughts on the 18mm and 27mm pancake? I noticed your choices are the three F2 primes. What are your reasons for not choosing the two pancakes from fuji that are intended to be small and light weight? Is it because of the WR and build quality the F2 primes are WR and can withstand wear and tear and change in weather better than the pancakes?

    excellent video! i have both the 56 and 50mm and the 50mm is a huge bargain over the 56mm, i paid 220 pounds for a mint lens used once on ebay! and for street and general use the 50mm is fantastic because for street you dont need that 1.2 aperture rather f4 but even at f2 the 50mm is so sharp and usable.

    I picked up the 56mm f1.2 earlier this years when they went on sale for half price. It was still a chunk of change but I knew I wanted it.
    85mm is my favorite focal length on full frame. I've done a lot of street photography and concert photography with an 85 on a Canon body before I switched to Fuji.
    I have had a bunch of 50s but they never quite had the look I like.
    The 50mm and 35mm f2 are both really good lenses. I have no complaints about the AF or AE on those. But the rendering is a little clinical. There just isn't much character to the bokeh and there is nothing that stands out in terms of color or contrast. Its like it's a solid 8 at everything.
    A few years ago I got to try out a 56mm and a 50mm F1 at a Fuji event.
    The 50mm f1 was impressively huge. It certainly could do subject separation. But the 56mm just had that "look". Something about the color and contrast was more refined. And the detail is still insanely good wide open. The AF and AE suck though. So you kind of have to get it in the ball park of where you want it to be before you start shooting.
    Still it's a 10 or 11 on color, contrast, bokeh, character etc. Maybe a 5 on AF.
    I can work around slow focus.

    Does anyone know if you have to rebalance a gimbal to switch between this lens and the 23mm f/2? Is there a big size/length difference?

    • @FilipJelenkovic
      @FilipJelenkovic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure you do. You have to rebalance gimbal even if you put lens cap (or hood) on the lens. I would not be supprised if you need to rebalance gimbal becuase of switching your 23mm f/2 lens with mine 23mm f/2 lens :)

    • @timeandtides8701

    My issue at the moment is getting a 56 used at a decent price is only $100. I have the 50f2 and think is a good lens but if you really want a FF look on apsc like you said you kinda have to have the 56 the 90 or the new 50f1. For me I got into Fuji as a second kit that is smaller and more travel friendly. I really wish they just made a mark II of the 56 because with the square lens hood it’s around the same length as the f2 just more chunky.

    Like this review. I feel 50mm f2 is the most underrated fuji prime lens. It is sharp, as sharp as 56mm f1.2, but can focus much faster and closer, also 1/2 light-weight and cheaper. The close-up image quality is better than the other fujicron lens. This is the best travel/street lens if you use 85mm prime. 16mm f1.4, 50mm f2 and 18-55 is usually my travel setup.

  • @MadredeAgua9

    Loved the street shots especially--though the guy in the blue shirt looked as though he wanted to kick your arse...🤣
    Thanks, Roman. Could not decide between a 35 or 50 and after numerous videos comparing both focal lengths yours was the most straight forward and convincing that the 50 is the one for me.
    Stay blessed and thank you for your sharing and inspiration.

  • @Don-yf6yo
    @Don-yf6yo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the image quality of the 56mm F1.2 actually better than the 50mm F2? From my experience you can't tell the difference unless you are pixel peeping and know what to look for. Even then the differences doesn't mean one lens has better image quality - there are just slight personality differences. If you meant that the 56mm has better image quality in the sense that it can give you shallower depth of field then that's a different story.

    Great review, Roman. I decided that I need a teleprime and it will either be the 50mm f2 WR or the 56mm f1.2. I prefer WR for rainy weather but also f1.2 to f2. If Fuji managed to put WR into the new 50mm f1.0 lens why couldnt they put WR into the 56mm.
    You should use the 50mm more often in your POV videos, I think that field of view gives always perfect framing. Cheers!

    I have both the 50mm and 56mm and until recently I was having a hard time finding the niche in my workflow for the 50mm.
    For context, I'm predominantly a wedding photographer. In almost every single situation the 56mm is better for what I need, with the exception of when the bride and groom/wedding party are walking down the aisle and I need the improved C-AF performance.
    However, I've done a few weddings recently where even the f1.2 aperture of the 56mm isn't bright enough to shoot the whole reception with natural light. I popped on an on-camera flash and used the 50mm f2 instead and the improved AF performance with the flash was significantly more usable than the 56mm in the same situation.

    I own the 50mm f2, and really love it. It's true the 56mm can produce some sharper images and is helpful having f1.2. That being said, I owned a 56mm and sold it. Two reasons I did: 1. the aperture ring is loose and is easily rotated out of position. Numerous times when shooting close, the ring got shifted from 3.2 or 4 to 1.2. That caused too shallow a DoF. 2. it missed or couldn't find focus a lot; especially in low light situations. The 50mm f2.0 doesn't have either of those problems.

    • @nerwin
      @nerwin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the 56 is actually sharper when stopped down, it's not crazy sharp at 1.2 as the 50 f/2 is wide open. But I think what people notice about the 50 f/2 being sharper is the micro contrast it has which gives it that look of being sharper. The 56 lacks contrast, no question about that haha.
