I've been a huge fan of Barry's music for a very long time. Every project he has been involved with is outstanding. What a lovely humble guy he is too. Thanks for bringing us this interview Pete. 🙂👍🇬🇧
This Barry cat is cool beyond belief. So honest and laid back so cool. Love him. Thanks Pete so much for doing this awesome interview - you are the best !
I lived next door to the house where Barry lives now and has lived since the early days of Boston. I lived next door to Marianne (she's real), from the More Than a Feeling lyric, in another town - this was on the same street where Brad Delp grew up. I have pics in my house of Barry and I and Brad and I from a meet and greet at a special event from 2003 in Lebanon, NH (a rare joint appearance which included Sib and Fran, no Tom - remember Barry?). I got an autograph from Tom when he and Brad did a record signing for Corp America. So, on my Boston CD, I have signings from all 5 - feel very lucky. Have met Brad many times when fronting Beetlejuice in clubs, always approachable, friendly and chatty. Very nice people. Also, Boston who supported BOC Oct 16, 1976 was my first concert ever as a 15 year old. Lots of history with Boston.
Wow, it's a pleasure to hear Barry talk about his career. His leads on those two Boston albums are iconic but there's more of his music that I need to catch up on.
Thanks for having Barry in as a guest Pete. I own Barry's solo album, Orion The Hunter, RTZ and of course all of the Boston records. This guy is a legend! It was great hearing about Barry's latest project and I can't wait to check it out! 😁🎸👍
I just discovered Orion The Hunter yesterday. Didn't know they existed because they never got airplay in the midwest evidently and I never saw the video on MTV. I've jammed 'So You Ran' I don't know how many times already. And what comes up on the youtube feed? Your interview with Barry Goudreau! There's a force in the universe and some of us are connected to it. Excellent interview as always BTW.
"So You Ran" was all over the radio in the Midwest in '84...Orion opened for Aerosmith on the Back in the Saddle tour that year...saw the show at Castle Farms in north west Michigan.
'Dreams' and 'Life is What You Make It' are such GREAT rock tunes! And let's not even get started about how incredible those first 2 BOSTON albums were/are! Pure rock!
Barry seems like a down to earth nice guy. Didn't know he and Brad did solo records. I'm interested in hearing it. Pete you are a great interviewer. 🎸🎙️🎵
Haven't even finished this interview but I would just like to tell you THANK YOU for bringing us these kind of interviews especially with a lot of us suffering through covid, loss and all the hardships that go with this pandemic. And you represent such a huge fanbase....God Bless and keep up the good work. I know your channel has been one of my favs through these tough times.
My 3 favorite debut albums are still “Led Zeppelin” Led Zeppelin, “The Cars” The Cars, and “Boston” Boston. I always pull my hair out picking the best of these three vinyls of exceptional greatness. Boston always wins albeit barely between these 3 perfect debut albums. Boston is simply exceptional with their combination of uncommon talent and gift. Boston … wow … these guys were just amazing and special.
I woke up this morning to see this interview on my TH-cam requested list. All I can say is, Wow and Thank You Pete! In a year you have have interviewed my favorite guitarists. Andy Powell of wishbone Ash and Barry Goudreau of Boston, Solo Album, Orion the Hunter and RTZ. I have been fortunate enough to meet these men,and even more fortunate to have had them Autograph my Flying V guitar. Which hangs on my wall for all to see.
Nice get Pete, very cool to see Barry is still active, loved that Orion the Hunter record back in the day and his playing in Boston was always excellent.
Fantastic conversation with Barry. I only knew of him from the band photo on the Boston debut. It was great to hear about his career and good to know that he is still active in music. Thank you Mr. Pardo.
Cool interview Pete Orion The Hunter is a fantastic album If you havnt heard it and you've got the first two Boston Albums you have to own this its a classic essential purchase Rock Candy Records have it.
Great interview, Pete! Love hearing Barry's remembrances. Saw Barry and Sib with Ernie and the Automatics. They did a big medley of Boston tunes. It was awesome!
My regards to Mr. Goudreau. Boston was the band that got me into Classic Rock, I’ve had nothing but an amazing and wonderful journey with it, more than anything else in my life.
Barry Goudreau is awesome! Love my SG too. I got it cause of Angus of course, but when I started watching Boston live concerts from the early days I noticed the huge sound he was getting from his SG. Makes me a proud SG owner.
Their debut never hit #1, yet was the best selling debut at 17 million copies in the USA! It was finally beaten by Appetite For Destruction. A true landmark of an album.
Thank you so much for this Pete! I absolutely love Barry’s work in Boston and I haven’t gotten a chance to check out much else (I’m only 18) but this is awesome! I hope I can possibly see and maybe even meet Barry one day after this mess!
Great interview Pete. Listened to Barry's solo project and it is like a long lost Boston album just not quite as polished. So I had to get it. Thanks again I had never heard any of his solo projects and will investigate further.
For any Barry Goudreau fan - or anyone interested in more from Barry, there are other records not discussed here: RTZ had only the one well-known studio record, but a 2nd record was released called "Lost" and later released as "Lost in America". A 3rd record was released called "Lost & Found". All have Brad Delp on them, so for fans of Brad these are kind of a must! Also, Barry did two albums with Lisa Guyer who has a great voice: "Gypsy Girl" and "Leap of Faith" are both good albums. A gem of a record was done with Brad Delp called "Delp & Goudreau". This one is a treat for fans. And there is another band called Ernie and the Automatics, with Sib Hashian - and Brian Meas & Tim Archibald from RTZ, and they released an album called "Low Expectations" which is a fun album. I believe Barry not only played most of the guitars on every one of these albums, but he wrote or co-wrote most of the songs too.
Great interview Pete nobody really talks about Barry as a great guitar player but he is and probably don't realize that a good majority of those ear piercing lead solos they hear on those first two Boston albums are Barry
Omg pete i am so surprised you got barry on the show because in my opinion he is one famous rockstar and im so happy you got him on because i could show this video to everyone also you really need to get joe perry on if you can or atleast brad whitford
The CD Delp And Goudreau from 2003 is a must hear!! Only Boston "Corporate America" & the self - titled Orion The Hunter are NOT on Apple iTunes though.
Hey Pete, Great interview. This reminds me of a potential topic for the Hudson Valley Squares or you and Martin or what have you - members of bands that were secret weapons or played a larger part of a band's success or sound than were given credit, perhaps either by the band leaders or fans. A member quits or is fired and the band's sound changes much more dramatically than anyone would have thought. I'm not saying that because of Barry - I realize that Boston was Tom Scholtz's brainchild and that Tom did play most of the guitars on the records. Interestingly, I went to Barry's website and he met Tom by hiring him as a keyboardist for his college band. It's pretty clear than Tom probably learned some guitar tricks from Barry.
great show Pete!! had been waiting for this one since you mentioned it. love Barry Goudreau's Orion the Hunter & RTZ from day one and still have the vinyl, cd's and cassettes too.. i always wondered and assume Barry still receives royalties from his kick ass Boston work- i would sure hope so...
I just had to buy Rockin Away off Itunes - fantastic song as good if not better imo than anything by boston after those first two fantastic records and wouldnt be out of place on either - bit of a shame Tom Sholz didnt embrace it at the time.
The Cars, Boston, Aerosmith (the city of Boston must be the epicenter of rock greatness) in no particular order plus ZZ Top (I couldn’t help myself … ZZ Top just knocks it out especially if you got to see them live in concert)
I ran out and bought that on cassette tape when it first came out hoping it was Boston, more or like. It was to some degree but didn't really click for me - it was like "Boston Lite". Years later I was going through my cassettes that where starting to go bad and deciding what I would but in CD format and what would go in the trash. That tape is somewhere in the Otay landfill...
What Barry never mentions is how he tried to replicate the Boston sound using Tom Scholz's invented gear, get Brad Delp to sing, have Sib Hashian on drums and have someone named Fran as bassist. It was meant to LOOK and SOUND like Boston as the record company hated how long it took for Tom to bring product to market. There is no end of people trying to take credit for Boston. But it was Tom who labored by himself for thousands of hours writing songs, inventing gear, recording bass, guitar, and keyboards himself, and engineering the tracks.
I wish Pete had asked him about Tom Scholz and everything that went down over the so called firing of Barry. Would be nice to know if the two of them even communicate anymore or does litigation prevent that.
I know no one cares about this, but I am curious what happened with Ernie and the Automatics... It seemed like EBJ was pushing it hard for a few years and then it just ended. Was it supposed to be a limited shelf life or did EBJ live out his fantasy and have enough
Great stuff Pete! BTW, here is the Delp/Goudreau song that Barry mentioned. I had never heard it....fantastic! th-cam.com/video/jN0aelQLI3Y/w-d-xo.html
It is generally known that musicians are very ignorant of anything but music because they are only interested in music, but I am surprised that at least someone did not question the whole narrative that this is the biggest scam of the century when this fake pandemic is in question where the flu has disappeared and how is it possible that the mortality rate is 0.1 percent and still is presented as something fucking deadlly so much, it doesn't matter if someone is educated or not. Otherwise I have great respect for the man.
I've been a huge fan of Barry's music for a very long time. Every project he has been involved with is outstanding. What a lovely humble guy he is too. Thanks for bringing us this interview Pete. 🙂👍🇬🇧

Always loved his guitar playing. That OTH album is an absolute goldmine of a melodic hard rock album
Thanks for reminding me about that Record! I have RTZ, but I have heard OTH is pretty killer too.
@@1970borntorun -- If you don't have it already, you need his self-titled solo album too. It's a fantastic hard rock album.
Damn, I love that Orion the Hunter album! 😎
Wow, it's a pleasure to hear Barry talk about his career. His leads on those two Boston albums are iconic but there's more of his music that I need to catch up on.
Omg 😱 thanks for getting him on Pete. I’ve been having a rough Wednesday thanks for lighting the mood.
Excellent job Pete, what a pleasure hearing from Barry about his past and present.
Love the RTZ album. Nice interview. Look forward to the new album
Thanks for having Barry in as a guest Pete. I own Barry's solo album, Orion The Hunter, RTZ and of course all of the Boston records. This guy is a legend! It was great hearing about Barry's latest project and I can't wait to check it out! 😁🎸👍
I actually saw RTZ open for Damn Yankees & Bad Company in Burlington Vermont many years ago. It was an excellent show.
Interestingly, RTZ's Music is FAR more engaging than generic, corporate, Radio-friendly Damn Yankees crap !
That's a great lineup!
I just discovered Orion The Hunter yesterday. Didn't know they existed because they never got airplay in the midwest evidently and I never saw the video on MTV. Did you discover RTZ yet??
I have Barry’s first solo album. So much of his sound and playing is certified Boston!
Those first 2 Boston albums are stone cold classics.
Thank you , Pete . Well done 👍
Love this conversation thanks guys🙏👍
Barry's first solo album with Brad Delp on vocals is awesome! Sounds like it could have been bostons third album ! Still have it on vinyl.
Great job as usual Pete...
Saw Boston’s on there first tour and they were awesome! Blew the headliner away!!!
Who was the headliner?
It was a 3 band bill. James Gang was first, then Boston then Foghat
Love Barry Goudreau! What an awesome guitarist. Love this interview. Learned a lot from it! Can't wait for his new record on March 19th.
Haven't even finished this interview but I would just like to tell you THANK YOU for bringing us these kind of interviews especially with a lot of us suffering through covid, loss and all the hardships that go with this pandemic. Nice interview Pete. Nice guy and underated player!
Pete Woodroffe Music
Great interview, Pete! Your questions were on the money.
Great interview. I love catching up with what's going on with classic rockers along with the history lesson.
this guy should write a book ! he's got so many great stories and anecdotes.
My 3 favorite debut albums are still “Led Zeppelin” Led Zeppelin, “The Cars” The Cars, and “Boston” Boston. I always pull my hair out picking the best of these three vinyls of exceptional greatness.

Great interview those stories were cool!
Thank you Barry for sharing these stories with us! Looking forward to the new album. Please come down south for some shows when you start doing gigs.
Nice get Pete, very cool to see Barry is still active, loved that Orion the Hunter record back in the day and his playing in Boston was always excellent.
1984, a great classic a bit of a cult AOR album.
Great interview! You asked all the right questions! Nice to hear there’s a new album coming!
Thanks Pete for this awesome interview!!!
Great interview! Been listening to the Orion The Hunter album recently -- really enjoyable!
I saw him playing with the James Montgomery Band two years ago on a snowy Saturday night in New Hamphire.
Fantastic conversation with Barry. I only knew of him from the band photo on the Boston debut. It was great to hear about his career and good to know that he is still active in music. Thank you Mr. Pardo.
Great to hear from Barry. Great interview Pete! 😎👍
Another reason I own and continue to play SG's.

Hi Pete Great Interview. Thanks
Saw Orion the Hunter open for Aerosmith in 84. From what I remember, it was a great show.
Great interview Pete. Listened to Barry's solo project and it is like a long lost Boston album just not quite as polished. So I had to get it. Thanks again I had never heard any of his solo projects and will investigate further.

Worked with Barry when he played with Danny Klein in Hartford. Great show!
Wow wow this is insane . The man himself
Always enjoyed his work with Boston, RTZ, Orion and his solo work. Very distinctive sound particularly when paired with the late, great Brad Delp.
Great ..Bruce. Brockton MA
Paul butterfield blues band were a great outfit. Mike bloomfield super
session is awesome. Great interview Pete.
Got to get his solo album with Brad Delp on lead vocals! Awesome album!
Great interview Pete nobody really talks about Barry as a great guitar player but he is and probably don't realize that a good majority of those ear piercing lead solos they hear on those first two Boston albums are Barry
I like him! I'm excited about his new creation. 🙂
Great job Pete!
What a cool guy - he played on some great stuff!!
Omg pete i am so surprised you got barry on the show because in my opinion he is one famous rockstar and im so happy you got him on because i could show this video to everyone also you really need to get joe perry on if you can or atleast brad whitford
Keep it up Pete Keep it up! After Orion Fran Cosmo tried working with Michael Schenker. Would have loved to have seen that collaboration materialize.
That Aerosmith story was absolutely insane - wished he’d mentioned which city that was! Holy S !
I know of a show at the Worcester centrum that ended after seven songs on that tour might be that one
The CD Delp And Goudreau from 2003 is a must hear!! Only Boston "Corporate America" & the self - titled Orion The Hunter are NOT on Apple iTunes though.
YEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Hey Pete,

Orion The Hunter is a great album. Get it.
When he played with Fran Cosmo in Rome, NY, Barry used my Marshall AMP! I took a picture of his settings!
Where did they play in Rome, Coleman’s?
@@henryaldrich7726 The Capitol Theater
Great “Bostonian”(?) accent by Mr. Goudrou. I’ve only heard “so you ran“, but I’m sure he has many more awesome songs.
I seem to remember in 1986, Boston sold out 9 nights at the Worcester Centrum
great show Pete!! had been waiting for this one since you mentioned it. love Barry Goudreau's Orion the Hunter & RTZ from day one and still have the vinyl, cd's and cassettes too.. i always wondered and assume Barry still receives royalties from his kick ass Boston work- i would sure hope so...
I wanted to know more about the So You Ran video
Barry & Geddy Lee looking like Brothers
I just had to buy Rockin Away off Itunes - fantastic song as good if not better imo than anything by boston after those first two fantastic records and wouldnt be out of place on either - bit of a shame Tom Sholz didnt embrace it at the time.
I was at that back in the saddle tour navy island saint paul mn.
Maybe 2000- 5000 people.
What a mess😄
Hey, you should do a show on who's the greatest American band, not so easy...🎸🇺🇸
megadeth, aerosmith, van halen
Ramones, blue oyster cult, the Monkees
The Cars, Boston, Aerosmith (the city of Boston must be the epicenter of rock greatness) in no particular order plus ZZ Top (I couldn’t help myself … ZZ Top just knocks it out especially if you got to see them live in concert)
I never got to buy his first solo album. Always wanted to get it.
Go get it you won’t regret it, you can actually listen to it on Spotify. Should get the RTZ album too!
I ran out and bought that on cassette tape when it first came out hoping it was Boston, more or like. It was to some degree but didn't really click for me - it was like "Boston Lite". That Aerosmith show was at the centrum right ?

I'm pretty sure at this point that Barry is a bit gun-shy when it comes to Tom Scholz...
I know no one cares about this, but I am curious what happened with Ernie and the Automatics... It seemed like EBJ was pushing it hard for a few years and then it just ended. Was it supposed to be a limited shelf life or did EBJ live out his fantasy and have enough

Thank you for posting the TH-cam link. What a wonderful song. There’s no mistaking the trademark Boston sound in this song.
😀👍
How about bands who should retire ?

Rockin away is a great song. Figures it couldn’t have been done as a Boston song . So stupid
