My midlines were off and i just had to wear an elastic that goes from one k9 at the top to another k9 at the bottom, it is corrected now and i still have to wear them and i’m getting my braces off on May 28th (:
Happy for you. I have had my braces for a month to correct midline. Do you have your braces at your adult age. I’m adult and wondering if I will be off braces within 2 years.
My midline shifted as I had an impacted canine removed when I was 14. I’m now 22 and 3.5 months into braces treatment. I’ve had a tooth extracted on the other side and am wearing one elastic on my top canine to bottom molar at night. I’m still early on in my treatment but am excited to see the results. Thanks for the video :)
This is exactly what I’m going through right now. My midline is off because I had a baby tooth that didn’t want to fall out, the permanent tooth on the right lateral incisor started growing in (shark tooth). The baby tooth finally fell out, the permanent tooth grew out of position. It appeared like I had a gap, the right central incisor started moving to the right where the space was. I had braces in high school, but not a good Orthodontist. My teeth were straight but I was left with black triangles and midline was off. At 40 I’m doing braces again due to not wearing my retainer. This time around I found a good Orthodontist, she has me wearing elastics, this coming Friday we’re doing IPR. My teeth look better so I’m excited. This video is well explained and we’re happy you’re back.
I'm really glad this TH-cam channel exist, it help me appreciate and take care of my teeth more. I had braces and I lost my elastics, barely even used it. I'm regretting because I never thought it has a good use, I was naive. It was hassle to put on, embarrassing when someone point it out and hard to eat well. Wish I was educated properly by my dentist when I was young- I took it for granted. Yes, I don't have a good bite on one side because I didn't do my part correctly.
This is really interesting, thankyou! My bottom teeth shift to the left, hoping they can be fixed! Beginning to get the gaps closed from 4 teeth extractions this month so very excited to see what my teeth look like by the end of this year & next year when they’re off! :)
My midline is off and I still have a bit of spacing on my left side, I’ve had braces for over 4 years and my dentist wants to take my braces off but I don’t want to because I’m not happy with how my teeth are still. I missed a few appts and missed some because of covid. Dentist has been trying to take my braces off for a few months now but I keep telling them I’m not satisfied.
I got my braces done the second time too because I wasn't happy w the result earlier and now my midline is off and it's making it super weird for me, I get what you're feeling m8
same. I've had mine for over 2 yrs now and currently am in the middle of my midline alignment. my dentist thinks it'll be fixed within a month and hopefully get the braces removed next week, but if I'm not satisfied I'll tell him whatever my concern is, before that i won't get them removed
I have 5 crowns on my upper teeth, 2 on the left, 3 on the right and an extraction on the right as a 30 yo. I also have 2 crowns on the bottom. The crowns were made too large causing my lower jaw to shift to the left. This gave me migraines for a month before I learned the cause. I’ve had braces for 16 days now and currently, due to the changes….only ONE tooth touches when I rest my jaw. I have a long way to go but the amount of correction I’ve had in just 16 days is amazing!!!!
Welcome back Dr. Greg! I get my braces off in June and I couldn't be more ready... Your videos have helped me tremendously over the year and a half and I can't think you enough. Every night just before bed, I hear this voice in my head that says "remember to maintain EXCELLENT oral hygiene." Thanks to your advice, I'm getting my braces off 3 months earlier than the expected date.
@@Adam_Lam my braces journey hasn’t been too bad so far. I had to get 4 extractions and an expander in just to get space to move my teeth with braces. The spacers hurt so much that was 100% the worst pain ever. Braces pain is nothing compared to that.
I have a mid line which is that my right teeth lost one moler all the way to the back was not there. And my left moler that was in front of my back moler had to be removed. Also welcome back :)
Dr. Greg, do you mind making a video on tongue thrusting? I was told I'll need a retainer forever unless I relearn how to properly place my tongue in my mouth.
Put like a slow melting sweet on the roof of ur mouth and leave there and swallow all the melting stuff white doing other stuff like watching TV, this will help u, ur lips will hopefully move the teeth back into shape
I was told the same thing! I don't mind a retainer forever as long as its the permanent retainer but I've really been cognizant of tounge placement while I'm awake!
Welcome back! I wanted to ask you if you could do a video on orthognatic surgery and what risks could there be for a patient if they were recommended this surgery but the patient refuses and decides to stick only with the orthodontic treatment? I have a class 2 deep bite and I've been recommended a Bimax surgery (or at least a maxillary one) and I don't want to pursue it as I'll try my best to fix as much as I can from just doing a normal orthodontic treatment, but could there be any risks for proceeding like this in the future?
Great video! Thanks for explaining so well Dr. G, you are much better than my ortho who doesn't say a thing unless I asked questions lol. Wish you're office is nearby. I would have done my treatment in your office.
Welcome back and thanks for the helpful video! :) I actually didn’t even know what a midline was before watching this. This taught me a lot and I actually realized that my midline is off (most likely because I have a bad overjet and a gap between my front teeth), so this was really helpful.
Sooooooo nice to see you back! That's a very important topic. I'm going to be done with my braces in September or October (maybe November). Now, I have had herbst for some months and now I have bands. I did not really understand why they were there, but thanks for the explanation! By the way, I hate the herbst. :-(
Hello. What my orthodontist is doing is a single sided CS5 spring. This spring is attached directly to the arch wire on the top and the bottom . It pulls my lower jaw back and is helping line up my midlines. On the other side is an elastic.
I wish i could be as good as Dr. Greg on treating orthodontics but i have hope that my skills will develop. I approach everything with an open mind to learn what i can. Perfect timing on the upload, though. I have a patient with off midline upper teeth (away from the midline of the face). im doing best to shift it back to the center as i can, sadly my patient has missing teeth. Thanks Dr. Greg!
I was wondering... how much time does it need for my midline to be fixed? I've been putting these elastics for a month already and I haven't seen much change :( I really want them to be perfect, this has been causing me self confidence issues :(
I didn't see any difference during the first month too and one day I just woke up saw my teeth in the mirror and I was like what the hellll??? There was so much difference in my midline lol 🤩
@@suhahahani I'm getting my braces off in 3 weeks and my midline is still off. Also it seems like my jaw move all the time cuz everytime I check in mirror, my midline position changed and Idk how to fix it
My ortho did the same. He wants to see how my top teeth shift to determine if I will need a tooth in the bottom extracted or not since I have a lot of overcrowding
I'm coming to the end of my treatment and my midline is off, but I had a crowding issue/space bottom lower right. I'm in all kinds of elastics right now 🤦♀️
I have the same issue as well, however I never have a midline problem BEFORE I got braces, after I got braces, my lower teeth looks like it have been shifted to the left, which is utterly noticeable if I smile. I also have an underbite. My 2nd issue is that my canine has a gap next to the lateral incisor and first premolar, which makes my canine have this space in between those teeth. And according to my orthodontist I have few months left till my braces will be remove and I'm still not satisfied with my braces because due to the pandemic I have missed appointments, however I just got back last month. I was also hoping for elastics because this issue of mine makes me conscious whenever I smile because it looks like my bottom teeth doesn't sit right. Up until now I'm still not have been given elastics. I don't know how to explain this to my orthodontist, I need help.
Hey Dr. Greg! Remember when I got my braces off on March 9, 2020. Well I lost my retainer, my four front teeth shifted. Everything else stayed in place. I’m getting Invisalign for the second time. I ended up getting my frenum removed. My dentist said I needed this removed because it didn’t matter if I had braces or Invisalign as long as I didn’t get that removed because the gap in my two front teeth would always come back otherwise
Can you explain how looking at the root canal and getting X-rays done will let the orthodontist figure out how much time you have left with braces and how more long you’re treatment will be because my next appointment the orthodontist will do X-rays and based on the root canal will try give me a specific time of how much longer I need braces. And maybe explain why taking X-rays are important and the purpose of how a detailed X-ray can be used to figure approximately treatment time and more on root canals.
Why do my top back teeth (not wisdom) not have brackets and aren’t connected with a wire? Compared to the teeth in front of it, they look a little rotated.
Does fixing mid line with elastic also reduce my overbite (or overjet, sry idk the exact term)??? My bite is exactly the same, class 1 on the right but class 2 on the left (not severe, exactly the same bite at 7:18) and mid line is off. My front teeth have a bit of overjet/overbite (may be 3 to 4mm). My teeth are not crowded either. And i want to tell my story a bit. Im already into 4 months of my brace journey. I decided to have braces bcos i thought i have overjet/overbite. My ortho extracted my upper premolars jus bcos i have no room without warning the effect of extraction of premolars and i believed him. Now im stressing out everyday after reading down side of premolar extraction and this is killing my mental health! !!! Extraction of lower premolars haven't done yet but soon cos i insisted to postpone it if possible. Im 23, have small face and small chin. Did my case really need extraction or did my ortho decide so carelessly? All i wanted is to fix my front teeth a bit. HELP i guess i still have time to change ortho or go for another treatment plan 😭
To correct my midline, my dentist made space for my upper teeth to be moved to the left, they are moving it one by one to the left, until all teeth are symmetrical.
I have springs with more activation on the left side. I love going to my appointments and already know what they're talking about from your videos and WELCOME TO MICHIGAN!!
My midline was off because I had four baby teeth on my top row that refused to fall out, and my adult canine on my left side decided to try to push in anyway, causing the side tooth to push sideways on my front tooth (making a snuggle tooth), and it caused my front teeth to push to the right. This was a problem for a while, but I finally got dental insurance last year and had the four baby teeth extracted last june (at 28 years old!). I started braces last July, and they used coil springs to hold the spaces for my impacted canines. The one that had already tried to push in is now in it's correct place, but the other one hasn't come in yet, so I had an expose and bond done two weeks ago to hopefully bring down my impacted canine. My midline is good now though, on top. The bottom midline is still being worked on, which was due to baby teeth that had fallen out in my 20s.
My midline was perfect before braces. I’m 10 months in, and my mid lines are now off. They estimated in February that I’d be able to get them off in August, but I can’t imagine I would be ready by then. What happens when orthodontics is the cause of the midline being off?
How important is an aligned midline? I'm getting towards the end of my treatment and in fixing my bite, my midline is now a bit off. Is this just an aesthetic concern or could it cause functional issues?
I have a midline issue caused by a molar that was extracted on the upper jaw at the left side about 13yrs ago. In 2018, I noticed that my teeth on the upper jaw shifted towards the extracted space leaving an off-midline. In 2019, I decided to have braces because of this, I don't have any issue aside from the midline. The dentist told me that he will extract another molar at the right side so we can pull all the teeth to the right. But he didn't extract until a year later because he wanted to soften the gums first. Due to the pandemic, the extraction was moved and it only got extracted on September 2021. After that, he then put a coil spring to move one tooth at a time to the right and then on succeeding months he just used a band to pull it which I think slows down the process. It took 1 year to move a single tooth to the next position and it was just yesterday that we're now moving the next tooth. Is there any option to speed up the process? I can't wait 1 year just to move a single tooth. From what I'm seeing, I'll be waiting for 5-6 years before every tooth will fall into place. Do you have any recommendations? I will appreciate it a lot.
Can you give some insight into the degree of midline drift that would be significant enough to require jaw surgery vs. something that can be corrected with braces? Is there a millimeter threshold in one direction or the other? How do you make that sort of decision? Asking for a friend.
I’m already in full power chains and elastics and ortho only mentioned my midline at the consultation, and since then he hasn’t said anything about it. Is that normal or should I bring it up with him?
My ortho hasn’t mentioned anything about midlines to me either and my braces are due off in June. I missed a couple appointments last year though due to Covid so who knows maybe it will be September now🤔
+Amelia Soldatova The other thing your orthodontist didn't mention is that the treatment method will end up ruining the shape of your face. It has caused or will cause your face to grow downward instead of forward. Ask me if you want to know what I'm talking about.
@@seth9577 Ok. I learned this information from Drs John and Mike Mew. They are orthodontists in London and they have a YT channel called 'Orthotropics'. I have learned from them that a person's facial shape and the straightness of the teeth are NOT primarily genetically inherited. They are actually determined mainly by oral posture (mouth posture). It's clear that our faces, in modern world, are no longer correctly shaped. This is mainly because people leave their mouths open during childhood. The human mouth has to be closed for the face to develop properly. The teeth must be together and the lips must be together to ensure the face grows FORWARD instead of DOWNWARD. Also, the tongue must be on the roof of the mouth to encourage the upper jaw to become wide enough for the teeth, in which case the lower jaw will do the same. The problem with retractive and extractive orthodontics is that it pushes the teeth BACK into alignment and this also pushes the bones of the face, not just the teeth, down and back, leading to a less attractive face and a narrower airway. Please also read, 'Jaws: The Story of a Hidden Epidemic' by Dr. Sandra Kahn and Dr. Paul Ehrlich. Read up on the author Patrick McKeown, who's a specialist in Buteyko breathing.
@@fishofgold6553 Ok. I know mewing and Im doing it since 3 years and I see improvement. My lower jaw become a little bit longer. However I had to wear braces it's been 2 months now because of crooked teeth. Anyways Im still mewing but I ask this question several times and doctor mew said you do not need to rest your teeth together. I just keep them closer.
My ortho is not even addressing my midline. I mentioned will it be fixed and he said that my teeth have come a long way - which they have because I had gaps - but he said it’s a possibility that my midline will not be fixed…. I’m wondering if I should get a second opinion… I’ve been in braces for 2 yrs and 3 mo now.
My upper midline is towards the right side while my bottom is in the correct place. It used to be the other way around but I had to get extractions and etc. My ortho wants me to wear my rubber bands going across over my spaces are closed. I can’t wait for my braces to be off. I had an impacted canine n the left side. I had a class 3 bite but now it’s a class 2 bite.
I had Maxillomandibular jaw advancement surgery for sleep apnea 7-29-21 and And the surgery I had a 3 mm Overbite that the oral surgeon Fix, but my teeth don’t fit in the puzzle I had at first so now my bite is thrown off teeth are sitting on top of one another. What can I do????
Hello! I love your videos! Can you explain why I’m getting gaps in my teeth during my treatment? I never had any teeth extracted. I never had gaps. I actually have over crowding. I’ve had braces for over 3 weeks and I’m seeing a gap getting bigger and bigger every day. I’ve seen your videos about the triangle teeth and why we would have that triangle gap but that’s not what is happing. It’s literally a gap. What’s going on? I’m worried 😟 thank you for your videos they help a lot.
What about if you have a perfect smile and it they both align nicely (midlines aligned) but the off center issue is with the face? Meaning if you draw a straight line from the middle of the forehead down through the middle of the nose to the teeth, it's not in the middle?
My lower set teeth shifts towards right side more but my ortho gave me a placement whch is moving them more towards right side. Is that okay or rectified?
Hello. I'm going on 2 years and 8 months of treatment. Because of crowding, a single tooth was removed from the bottom and now my midline is off and I have an overbite which was not the an issue before I started. I am currently wearing bands, but when I initially asked if my midline could be corrected, the response was, "we can't work that kind of magic" and "you can't really tell, no one will notice but you." Then I get on here to research and see all these potential solutions. I am paying out of pocket and will be done in just a few more payments. In my time there I've seen over 7 orthodontists (none last long) and they have changed their name and full staff. I understand it's been almost 3 years but I am not happy with my teeth and think they are rushing me out of my braces. What should I do???
The elastics explanation was so assuring because that is exactly my case! Right side canine is in the correct position, but not the left. And am currently on class 2 rubberband pattern!
my midline is now only *slightly* off because I had an underbite and cross bite. 2 yrs of Damon braces and now in clear aligners. next appt is in 3 weeks and I'm getting a scan! :D
Omg I’m wearing elastics for my midline rn!! Perfect timing cuz I just got them! It’s because I had 2 extractions on my top and one of my gaps closed so it shifted my teeth to the left, so I’m wearing class lll on my right side!
2nd part) Basically i need surgery on ly lower face 😢. But they say im 31 that the healing 😔 its more difficult. I dont know if i made sense but can you talk about that or if you had people with that problem can you show us the recovery plz

You're back 😀 you make our braces journey soooo much better ❤️
FACTS!
Dr Greg is back yoooo🔥🔥
13 months into the treatment and i currently have elastics for correcting midlines. It hurts but i can definetly see the results🤩
I’m 3 months in and they are correcting my midline now, hopefully it goes well.
Bro i think my dentist is doing wrong things...she extracted 2 teeth just form one side..

Ooh can you tell me all the things you did?
@@haileyc250 just was very good about my hygiene and brushed/flossed 30 min after every meal
@@Adam_Lam thank you!! 😊
@@haileyc250 no problem:) the entire thing sucks but you got this
@@Adam_Lam my braces journey hasn’t been too bad so far.
Also welcome back :)
almost 100k guys! been here since he was 10k!!
Well I was the first subscriber so...
@@ynotspank1 congratulations???
I don't mind a retainer forever as long as its the permanent retainer but I've really been cognizant of tounge placement while I'm awake!
im so glad ur back, congrats on 100k!!
Having a midline issue, currently wearing elastics to correct.
Thanks for this informative video!
Great video! Thanks for explaining so well Dr. G, you are much better than my ortho who doesn't say a thing unless I asked questions lol.
Wish you're office is nearby. I would have done my treatment in your office.
Welcome back. Hope everything went smoothly & hope to hear about your new work environment & the transition process.
WELCOME BACK!!! Thank you for covering this topic bcs I have misaligned midline albeit really mild 😊
Yes!! You are finally back !!
Welcome back I love hearing your tips and tricks for braces as I am currently in them right now and loving them!!😁

They will lengthen and push back your face, and thus make it look worse and narrow your airway.

Hey welcome back. We truly missed you and all your great content. Hope life is treating you well in Michigan.
Thanks Dr. Greg!
AHHHH I THOUGHT THIS WAS AN OLD VIDEO BUT I SAW THE DATE AND IM STOKED
I was wondering... how much time does it need for my midline to be fixed? I've been putting these elastics for a month already and I haven't seen much change :( I really want them to be perfect, this has been causing me self confidence issues :(
Mine took 2-3 months I guess
I didn't see any difference during the first month too and one day I just woke up saw my teeth in the mirror and I was like what the hellll??? There was so much difference in my midline lol 🤩
@@suhahahani How much distance was between midline of your upper teeth and lower teeth?

Welcome to 100k!
I currently have a midline discrepancy but I am only 3 months and 2 weeks in my braces so I have some time to get it fixed.
Welcome back!!🎉🎊
Dr greg im getting braces soon im just co nfused why my ortho is doing my top row fìrst and bottom the next month
My ortho did the same thing to me
Me too
My ortho did the same. He wants to see how my top teeth shift to determine if I will need a tooth in the bottom extracted or not since I have a lot of overcrowding
Mine did the bottom first, and the top row 2 months later.
Explanation on typhodont was so nice...
Oh no! We have same problem. My dentist doesn't care. How's your bite now?
Hey! Got braces two weeks ago. Born without a few teeth… currently using my baby canine to replace UC2.
Hey Dr.
Can you make a video about short roots and braces together?
Can you explain how looking at the root canal and getting X-rays done will let the orthodontist figure out how much time you have left with braces and how more long you’re treatment will be because my next appointment the orthodontist will do X-rays and based on the root canal will try give me a specific time of how much longer I need braces. And maybe explain why taking X-rays are important and the purpose of how a detailed X-ray can be used to figure approximately treatment time and more on root canals.
This was my case. I had a peg lateral and a missing lateral incisor. I had a spring to push everything over.
Why do my top back teeth (not wisdom) not have brackets and aren’t connected with a wire? Compared to the teeth in front of it, they look a little rotated.
Welcome back YOU HIT 100k congrats 😄
I have an asymmetry causing my bottom midline to be off .I just started my braces journey but I'm hoping that I won't need an extraction
I have springs with more activation on the left side. I love going to my appointments and already know what they're talking about from your videos and WELCOME TO MICHIGAN!!
Sir can you make a video on proclined treatment...
What's the best tooth paste to use?
Colgate Total Advanced Fresh+Whitening.
You’re back!!!
Please talk about the mission tooth factor on the top. I think I was taken out a molar.
My midline was perfect before braces. I’m 10 months in, and my mid lines are now off. They estimated in February that I’d be able to get them off in August, but I can’t imagine I would be ready by then. What happens when orthodontics is the cause of the midline being off?
omg i’m the same!!! has anything changed yet for you?
Yeah same I'm in only 6 months tho . I was so worried
I wish you would be my orthodontist 🙏you are just awesome...
I wish he was my mom.

The other thing your orthodontist didn't mention is that the treatment method will end up ruining the shape of your face. It has caused or will cause your face to grow downward instead of forward. Ask me if you want to know what I'm talking about.
@@fishofgold6553 tell

While taking the premolar to correct the midline, does it cause retraction of face or is it possible to bring just the back teeth forward?
My ortho is not even addressing my midline. I mentioned will it be fixed and he said that my teeth have come a long way - which they have because I had gaps - but he said it’s a possibility that my midline will not be fixed…. I’m wondering if I should get a second opinion… I’ve been in braces for 2 yrs and 3 mo now.
My upper midline is towards the right side while my bottom is in the correct place. It used to be the other way around but I had to get extractions and etc. My ortho wants me to wear my rubber bands going across over my spaces are closed. I can’t wait for my braces to be off.

Awesome vedioes Dr. Greg. Can you explain more about a cross bite elastics and what is the size used?
I have a loose bracket but can't go to the orthodontist because of covid. Should i leave it there. Will it affect my treatment
What do you think about screws in the upper, or bottom jaw as an achoring point for shifting the teeth.
What about if you have a perfect smile and it they both align nicely (midlines aligned) but the off center issue is with the face? Meaning if you draw a straight line from the middle of the forehead down through the middle of the nose to the teeth, it's not in the middle?
I love you doctor! Im learning so much!
Welcome back!!
Hey doc i was wondering if there is another faster way to fix midline without using the rubber bands
The elastics explanation was so assuring because that is exactly my case! Right side canine is in the correct position, but not the left. And am currently on class 2 rubberband pattern!
