Is it just me or anyone else enjoy wearing rubber bands? 😆 I mean, they are giving me more weight, reminding me that I’m having braces in my mouth and the journey for better smile is on the way
I've got horrible teeth and sometimes they just put stuff in my mouth and never tell me what it is! I've had my braces for 2 years and I've still got a long way to go, and your channel helps a lot to understand what certain things are and helps me explain what I've had done so far with my braces! I really appreciate it
Me too! Hearing those other people who doesn’t follow the adviced of their ortho. The few i know said that they are only wearing elastic during sleeping and during daytime not. And some of them don’t change a new ones unless it’s colored.🤭😬 can’t imagine myself doing that. I only take them off when i’m brushing my teeth.l and i do change new ones 3-4x a day. During weekends i usually sleep long but i would set an alarm just to put some new ones. 😅

I always have on my rubber bands and I eat with them in. They aren’t as awkward to eat with after the first time. So I only have 2 packs of bands that are supposed to last me 8 weeks.... I did the math and I can’t change them out too often if I want them to last. So thank you for talking about buying more!! This answered so many of my questions!!

Hi can you please explain what I will need to get done: My Upper Jaw is on a slant. I currently have braces but I wanted a treatment that just aligns my teeth. Now thinking about it, I hate the way my teeth look as my whole Upper Jaw is slanted. What treatment can I do to fix this?

Class 3 edge to edge bite been wearing elastics nearly my entire treatment (14 months so far) 😅 I eat with my elastics in. The resistance made my bite align faster then when i would take them out to eat. Treatment cut down by 4-6 months 💪🏾
Omg how exciting! I’ve never heard treatment getting cut down! My orthodontist says I will have to wear elastics so this brings me hope! I’m a class 3 as well and treatment is set for 24 months (without jaw surgery - surgery will add another year).
Dr Greg, can you address the very end of the braves journey? Like when they shave your teeth down -how much is too much? gum shaping recommended before or after? extended treatment per clients request?
Some people dont need them right away because of they way their teeth are and what treatment they need. Some dont have an excessive overbite or underbite so they'll just need the braces, until later in the treatment and then their orthodontist notices that something is going "wrong" maybe, and then they give them the elastics. It all depends on how treatment is going

A good trick is putting one around your pinky. By the time you have finished a meal you will feel a small throb in your pinky as a reminder to change them 😉
Adult and just got braces. Enjoying your videos. I've heard you mention the term "forces" when discussing braces, wires, bands, etc. Do you have a video that describes these forces. I'm curious about how much force is actually applied by using wires/bands. What range of force are we talking about when we use wires/bands? Are they measured in joules? How do you measure these forces during the treatment? Do you take educated guesses on which to use? I see you mentioned bands with "heavy" on them. How much force is heavy? Thanks for your great videos.
my bands are extremely painful. they make my teeth so sore after the first 2 minutes of wearing them. they’re small and thick and not very stretchy so they pull on my teeth and put so much pressure on them.
My rubber bands mean I can't eat with em on.. the tension is too strong for me to even open my mouth without it snapping or the bands sliping on my brackets. Most importantly, the pressure with the rubber band (even after removing them during a meal) + later normal mid hard food did cause a bracket to unglue it self.. so precaution with food that you eat is more necessary at this stage.
@@jollygoodgordon5580 I guess because your gums are more prone to growing/swelling with braces, so flossing/brushing helps with keeping the gum less inflamed
I take out my rubbers when I eat because it hurts when the I'm chewing on my back molars (Class 3). So what I do is I keep a little pouch with me that contains my elastics, hook, tree brush, small mirror, toothpick, and lip balm. I eventually build up the habit of keeping that little pouch with me on my table when i eat so it created a discipline on me on my journey

I have hot drinks with my elastics in and they seem to be fine but if change them regularly I dont think it matters that much... If that happened I think our orthodontist would of said something 😁
The tool is SO hard for me to use to get my rubber bands on. It’s so much easier to just use my fingers. I just make sure to wash my hands well before taking them out/putting them in.

"The rubber bands aren't strong enough to actually break braces off your teeth." CAVEAT: While elastics can't break the braces off, they CAN break individual attachments off. This is especially true for standalone buttons/hooks - such as when using invisalign, or when attachments are mounted to composite surfaces (fillings). They can also pop invisalign trays off. These all seem to be more nuisance than problematic, but it does happen. As an example: The hook on my 18 tooth (aka 37 / left mandibular second molar) snapped off twice last month (elastic: 2E - 3/16" - 4.5 oz). The molar has a large composite buccal filling, and the hook snapped off the first time while removing the elastic before dinner and the second time while yawning (I have a hypermobile jaw, so my yawns are really big).
I just got my elastics today the worst part is that I have class 2 so I have to do the back molar which is so hard to get. I also got a powechain for top teeth.

I've had my braces on since 16... I'm 23 now... I'm almost sure that my orthodontist despises me by now. I know that I have been too inconsistent in the treatment, but I'm willing to stick to it now! So educating myself a bit may help me understand better how can I help my orthodontist to help me.
haha i just got elastics and it’s kinda like a triangle (two back molars on top and canine on bottom). i only need to wear them at night but my orthodontist didn’t really explain to me why exactly i need them. thank you for making this because it helped me a lot!! also i got power chains on to close a gap i had to the left of my front teeth and the gap closed within hours of having them on 😎
If you mean like on the bracket itself top ones point up and bottom ones pointing down I think all of us get them they’re just there in case you have to wear them throughout the process I have braces and they asked me to wear them 1 year in.. but I’m not a professional you know just speaking from personal experience
I got my braces about 6 weeks ago. I just had my first tightening, and I was given rubber bands. Does this mean that my treatment time will be shorter than normal?
Great video timing! Thank you in advance. Am getting my bottom braces placed on in October, to likely start rubber bands. Looking forward to hopefully start closing spaces then. My ortho placed an open coil spring for a large gap I have (😅)- gap's in due to previous improper ortho work in the past(edited in: instead of closing the spaces- they created spaces- and told me at 14-15 to get implanted 😳 left me with gaps at the end of treatment- no help whatsoever after-- asked my primary pediatric dentist at the time, they made expressions of great concern & advised me not to get implants), thankfully am having braces correction this time around. I believe it was to create more space, to then close the spaces carefully, once my bottom braces & elastics treatment start. 🤞🏼 If so, I'd actually start getting happier at it's improvements lol. It's unfortunately a 1.5 cm space, between first premolar & canine areas. The other side is more tiny. Interesting case for sure. Your videos help a ton; am learning as I go through my second treatment this time around.
I have a question. I still have one gap that hasn't closed yet, from what I've heard band help in jaw alignment and I am recommended to wear them as well. But do they aid in closing up that final gap in-between my teeth. Thanks
I’m 21 and I’m currently in braces and elastics for class 3 and also have reverse pull headgear for sleep. I’m wondering what your opinion is about wearing the headgear at night and elastics at daytime? Is it really more efficient to have 2 systems with different rubber band sizes or is it possibly better to just wear the same elastics in mouth to sleep? The headgear is also not very sturdy and I find it’s in a random position when I wake up. I’m going to consult my ortho about it but I want to hear other opinions please!
depends on how fast your teeth move. it varies from patient to patient. for example, i am 10 months in and just got elastics. but my treatment time isn’t that long, it’s 18 months. :) hopefully this helps

Somehow no orthodontist tells you how the rubber bands can mess up your jaw joint. Putting constant pressure on the joint etc. After three weeks of wearing elastics for an underbite I developed clicking/popping in my left jaw as well as pain. Even after removing the rubbers this kept going for a long while. You can find a lot of people online that speak of permanent issues.
I had my adjustments today, while she was taking out the colored rubber she accidentally took out 2 brackets... Then she made me pay the re attachment of them. Her downpayment was already the price of my college tuition and still she made me pay when it was her fault... Bruh
I have to wear overbite rubber bands and when i sleep it causes my lower jaw (two bottom teeth) to lay on my upper jaw (two front teeth) which is kinda giving me gap teeth. Does anyone one else have this issue or is it normal please help.
My elastics feel really loose after wearing them for a few hours but my orthodontist told me to change them only 2/3 times a day and to wear them for 24 hours, I don’t think I have enough to change them regularly
i say just keep doing it and wait until your next appointment. if it starts damaging your bite or is painful, then call your orthodontist. otherwise just go with the flow, it’s probably in your orthodontists plan :) they can sorta predict what will happen in your mouth
I have to get rubber bands to correct my pretty bad overbite, but I’m worried that my face will look weird after I get it corrected. When I make my bottom teeth meet my top teeth , my face looks very weird and stuck out.
I'm able to eat through my rubber bands since they're only on my left side but feared they might lose their tightness because of the stretching and it would defeat the purpose, so I just remove them and place them back in after eating. I wear mine regularly and I'm used to the sensation of having them on so I never forget them once I'm done.
I have the exact same situation, I try to eat with my bands in and I do mostly because they put these things on my bottom teeth called buttons and I literally choked on my rice the other day because my fork got stuck on the fork
My braces came off last November, sadly this November I am gonna have them back on because my teeth have shifted. I think my orthodontist took my braces off to early and didn't want to admit it when I went back to her in January, now here we are. I am so not looking forward to it
@@renaemurray705 ok. So what happen was...braces came off the end of November, on the day she was removing them she told me I had a cavity.. December I had an appointment with my dentist to rectify the cavity and get my teeth cleaned. While I was at my dentist he noticed I didn't have a bite on my left side and the space between top and bottom teeth at the front was still too much ( this I had noticed but since I was no expert I didn't say anything on the day the braces came off)...so I made an appointment with my orthodontist to explained to her what my dentist and I noticed. So then she told me not to wear my top retainers anymore and only wear the bottom ones at nights " let the teeth natural shift and they might fall in place or you might go back into braces, come back in 6 months". I noticed six months came and went and I didn't hear from her office while I am looking at my teeth making this out of whack shift. So I contacted them and she told me to come in and like yeah.. she's like " I am gonna have to put you back in braces"🤦🏾♀️
@Ayda Sh If I had the money to go somewhere else trust me I would. I can't fully say she caused the problem..it's more like she took my braces off too early. She took them off too early and didn't want to admit it so she tried wing it to see if it would've fixed by itself. This is on her
@Zyzz she said when they go back on it will only be a a couple months. Initially she said she could fix it without putting them back on but putting them back on is the best way.
@Ayda Sh yes..when I went in two weeks ago I made sure to point out to her everything I noticed. I couldn't afford braces in my younger years and I saved my money to get my teeth fixed. No way I was just going to let it go down like that. So far she's been really professional and nice to me. Ice done all she said I am to do so this is really on her.

Confused patient here!! I've been in braces for over a year now. I have an 8mm over jet and my over bite is so bad to the point that my lower teeth touch the roof of my mouth. Up until now, I've only gotten braces on my front upper teeth and my dentist didn't even take impressions of my lower teeth the first time I went there. My front teeth are pretty straight at this point but my bite is at square one. My dentist didn't mention anything about elastics to me. Is everything going according to plan or is my dentist just incompetent? And yes he is a dentist not an ortho

I'm pulling out 4 teeth next February, and then I'm also getting braces and elastic. I'm just nervous if it hurts, and I want to know more about it. Hi Doc, if you wear your bands in box style (Canine and pre molar on both lower and upper arch), can this serve two purposes? Close an anterior open bite and create space for rotated incisors?
Mine band has to be connected to a button on my tooth, they want my teeth to fall down faster with the band. Although it's hard to put the rubber band on under the wire.

A good trick is putting one around your pinky. By the time you have finished a meal you will feel a small throb in your pinky as a reminder to change them 😉

Adult and just got braces. Enjoying your videos. I've heard you mention the term "forces" when discussing braces, wires, bands, etc. Do you have a video that describes these forces. I'm curious about how much force is actually applied by using wires/bands. What range of force are we talking about when we use wires/bands? Are they measured in joules? How do you measure these forces during the treatment? Do you take educated guesses on which to use? I see you mentioned bands with "heavy" on them. How much force is heavy? my bands are extremely painful. they make my teeth so sore after the first 2 minutes of wearing them. they’re small and thick and not very stretchy so they pull on my teeth and put so much pressure on them.

My rubber bands mean I can't eat with em on.. the tension is too strong for me to even open my mouth without it snapping or the bands sliping on my brackets. Most importantly, the pressure with the rubber band (even after removing them during a meal) + later normal mid hard food did cause a bracket to unglue it self.. so precaution with food that you eat is more necessary at this stage.

I take out my rubbers when I eat because it hurts when the I'm chewing on my back molars (Class 3). So what I do is I keep a little pouch with me that contains my elastics, hook, tree brush, small mirror, toothpick, and lip balm.
I eventually build up the habit of keeping that little pouch with me on my table when i eat so it created a discipline on me on my journey

I have hot drinks with my elastics in and they seem to be fine but if change them regularly I dont think it matters that much...

The tool is SO hard for me to use to get my rubber bands on. It’s so much easier to just use my fingers. I just make sure to wash my hands well before taking them out/putting them in.

"The rubber bands aren't strong enough to actually break braces off your teeth."
CAVEAT:
While elastics can't break the braces off, they CAN break individual attachments off. This is especially true for standalone buttons/hooks - such as when using invisalign, or when attachments are mounted to composite surfaces (fillings). They can also pop invisalign trays off. These all seem to be more nuisance than problematic, but it does happen.
As an example: The hook on my 18 tooth (aka 37 / left mandibular second molar) snapped off twice last month (elastic: 2E - 3/16" - 4.5 oz). The molar has a large composite buccal filling, and the hook snapped off the first time while removing the elastic before dinner and the second time while yawning (I have a hypermobile jaw, so my yawns are really big).
I don’t even have my braces on yet, but I have an overjet, so I’m probably going to need elastics. Great video! ;)

haha i just got elastics and it’s kinda like a triangle (two back molars on top and canine on bottom). i only need to wear them at night but my orthodontist didn’t really explain to me why exactly i need them. thank you for making this because it helped me a lot!! also i got power chains on to close a gap i had to the left of my front teeth and the gap closed within hours of having them on 😎
I sometimes get too lazy to remove my rubber bands when eating. Needless to say, I have probably swallowed a whole lot of them.

If you mean like on the bracket itself top ones point up and bottom ones pointing down I think all of us get them they’re just there in case you have to wear them throughout the process I have braces and they asked me to wear them 1 year in.. but I’m not a professional you know just speaking from personal experience

I got my braces about 6 weeks ago. I just had my first tightening, and I was given rubber bands. Does this mean that my treatment time will be shorter than normal?

Great video timing! Thank you in advance. Am getting my bottom braces placed on in October, to likely start rubber bands. Looking forward to hopefully start closing spaces then. My ortho placed an open coil spring for a large gap I have (😅)- gap's in due to previous improper ortho work in the past(edited in: instead of closing the spaces- they created spaces- and told me at 14-15 to get implanted 😳 left me with gaps at the end of treatment- no help whatsoever after-- asked my primary pediatric dentist at the time, they made expressions of great concern & advised me not to get implants), thankfully am having braces correction this time around.
I believe it was to create more space, to then close the spaces carefully, once my bottom braces & elastics treatment start. 🤞🏼 If so, I'd actually start getting happier at it's improvements lol. It's unfortunately a 1.5 cm space, between first premolar & canine areas. The other side is more tiny. Interesting case for sure. Your videos help a ton; am learning as I go through my second treatment this time around.
I have a question. I still have one gap that hasn't closed yet, from what I've heard band help in jaw alignment and I am recommended to wear them as well. But do they aid in closing up that final gap in-between my teeth. Thanks
I’m 21 and I’m currently in braces and elastics for class 3 and also have reverse pull headgear for sleep. I’m wondering what your opinion is about wearing the headgear at night and elastics at daytime? Is it really more efficient to have 2 systems with different rubber band sizes or is it possibly better to just wear the same elastics in mouth to sleep? The headgear is also not very sturdy and I find it’s in a random position when I wake up.
I’m going to consult my ortho about it but I want to hear other opinions please!

depends on how fast your teeth move. it varies from patient to patient. for example, i am 10 months in and just got elastics. but my treatment time isn’t that long, it’s 18 months. :) hopefully this helps

Somehow no orthodontist tells you how the rubber bands can mess up your jaw joint. Putting constant pressure on the joint etc. After three weeks of wearing elastics for an underbite I developed clicking/popping in my left jaw as well as pain. Even after removing the rubbers this kept going for a long while. You can find a lot of people online that speak of permanent issues.
I had my adjustments today, while she was taking out the colored rubber she accidentally took out 2 brackets... Then she made me pay the re attachment of them. Her downpayment was already the price of my college tuition and still she made me pay when it was her fault... Bruh

I have to wear overbite rubber bands and when i sleep it causes my lower jaw (two bottom teeth) to lay on my upper jaw (two front teeth) which is kinda giving me gap teeth. Does anyone one else have this issue or is it normal please help.

My elastics feel really loose after wearing them for a few hours but my orthodontist told me to change them only 2/3 times a day and to wear them for 24 hours, I don’t think I have enough to change them regularly

i say just keep doing it and wait until your next appointment. if it starts damaging your bite or is painful, then call your orthodontist. otherwise just go with the flow, it’s probably in your orthodontists plan :) they can sorta predict what will happen in your mouth

I'm able to eat through my rubber bands since they're only on my left side but feared they might lose their tightness because of the stretching and it would defeat the purpose, so I just remove them and place them back in after eating. I wear mine regularly and I'm used to the sensation of having them on so I never forget them once I'm done.
I have the exact same situation, I try to eat with my bands in and I do mostly because they put these things on my bottom teeth called buttons and I literally choked on my rice the other day because my fork got stuck on the fork
My braces came off last November, sadly this November I am gonna have them back on because my teeth have shifted. I think my orthodontist took my braces off to early and didn't want to admit it when I went back to her in January, now here we are. I am so not looking forward to it

@@renaemurray705 ok. So what happen was...braces came off the end of November, on the day she was removing them she told me I had a cavity.. December I had an appointment with my dentist to rectify the cavity and get my teeth cleaned. While I was at my dentist he noticed I didn't have a bite on my left side and the space between top and bottom teeth at the front was still too much ( this I had noticed but since I was no expert I didn't say anything on the day the braces came off)...so I made an appointment with my orthodontist to explained to her what my dentist and I noticed. So then she told me not to wear my top retainers anymore and only wear the bottom ones at nights " let the teeth natural shift and they might fall in place or you might go back into braces, come back in 6 months". I noticed six months came and went and I didn't hear from her office while I am looking at my teeth making this out of whack shift. So I contacted them and she told me to come in and like yeah.. she's like " I am gonna have to put you back in braces"🤦🏾♀️
@Ayda Sh If I had the money to go somewhere else trust me I would. I can't fully say she caused the problem..it's more like she took my braces off too early. She took them off too early and didn't want to admit it so she tried wing it to see if it would've fixed by itself. This is on her
@Zyzz she said when they go back on it will only be a a couple months. Initially she said she could fix it without putting them back on but putting them back on is the best way.
@Ayda Sh yes..when I went in two weeks ago I made sure to point out to her everything I noticed. I couldn't afford braces in my younger years and I saved my money to get my teeth fixed. No way I was just going to let it go down like that. So far she's been really professional and nice to me. Ice done all she said I am to do so this is really on her.

Ok so I’ve been putting my elastics in wrong for like the past 2 weeks and I just asked my orthodontist how to do it correctly and I’m suppose to wear them only at night but if I wear them for 24 hours will that still give me some sort of progress, because I dont wanna double them up.💀 and I go back there in a week.! Probably not. Just get them in as soon as possible. Try and wear them all the time
my ortho said the longer you keep them off, the harder it is to stay on it and the more they back track. but you should be okay :)
Ive been wearing my elastics on the wrong teeth for 2 days. but I'm still not sure if I put them back in the right spot. I've been in braces for over a year now. I have an 8mm over jet and my over bite is so bad to the point that my lower teeth touch the roof of my mouth. Up until now, I've only gotten braces on my front upper teeth and my dentist didn't even take impressions of my lower teeth the first time I went there. My front teeth are pretty straight at this point but my bite is at square one. My dentist didn't mention anything about elastics to me.
Is everything going according to plan or is my dentist just incompetent?

I also need to have a metal bar that connects two of my teeth at the top of my mouth (sorry I forgot what it was called). My orthodontist provided two elastics for my teeth, and I've been wearing them in the wrong spot for 2 days, but I'm still not sure if I put them back on the right teeth. I just changed it a few minutes ago and I'm going to keep wearing them like this. And I'm wondering if wearing two elastics on the wrong teeth for 2 days could be harmful?
I have a hook/ bracket on the upper first molar, on the inner part; and another hook on the lower first molar, on the outside to align my teeth vertically :O what class is that? I think it's for crossbite

Took me a while to get use to putting my rubber bands in but now I'm a pro, no tool needed lol. I eat with them in most of the time. You just have to get use to it.

Mine band has to be connected to a button on my tooth, they want my teeth to fall down faster with the band. Although it's hard to put the rubber band on under the wire.
