    I was able to correct my crossbite successfully with rubber bands at 31! My orthodontist did tell me it was possible I would require jaw surgery, but I got great results. My arch isn’t perfectly symmetrical, one side comes in more than the other, but my bite and midline are correct and it looks great to the eye. I also had overbite, I don’t think I had an over jet, but I don’t remember.

    So glad you made this video. I've gotten braces for class 2 malocclusion and was informed from the start of treatment that mine is a surgical case, as the both of my jaws need realignment. But just today, my orthodontist informed me that I "won't be needing surgery and they'll only align my front (protruding) teeth" this sudden change in decision has me really confused and I'm trying to get in contact with my Dr to clarify things

    This was so interesting to learn 🙌🙌 When I first got braces as a kid I had an overjet as well as a severe overbite. Back then it was corrected with things like spring wires, elastics and I also had to wear headgear (do they even do that today 🤣🤣🤣).
    So with my current treatment my Dr is happy with the top set, it's just the lower set that now needs attention due to some crowding that has taken place as a result of teeth shifting over the many years. 🙃

    I just had my braces for an open bite that I apparently developed due to overcrowding. I originally didn’t have it but as my wisdom tooth erupted, the other teeth moved until it misaligned and created the open bite. I really don’t like having braces but I hate having open bite more especially since it also causes me to grind my teeth unconsciously.

    I had an excessive deep bite and overjet and my bottom teeth touched the back of my top front teeth. I also had wear on teeth from not fitting together properly, but for some reason, my ortho did not give me a bite plate after I got braces. Instead, he simply told me not to "bite weird." Good video as usually Greg! Im going through a treatment of an open bite. Im 21yo and have had an open bite my whole life. 7 months ago i got braces and a palatal expander, 1 month after that i got a SARME surgery to expand my upper jaw and it made a HUGE difference in nose breathing, face shape and ofc the width of the jaw. In about 6-12 months im going to have one more surgery to move my upper jaw up in the back to close my bite :) If someone reading this is considering going through jaw surgery, all i can say is DO IT! Even though it's a tough thing to go through it is 100% worth it in my opinion :)

      i also have an open bite. to scared of that surgery tho. i heard it can relapse and the potential for nerve damage, thats wut puts me off.

    • @rasmussvensson1071
      @rasmussvensson1071 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jakec5618 I feel u! There is always a small relapse but when the doctors are doing the treatment they always move the jaws a littel bit ”too much” so there is room for that relapse. A friend of mine got his underbite fixed and after surgery he got a bit worried because he now had an overbite insted, but that was because the doctor moved the jaws a little bit to much so after a couple of months his jaws ”relapsed” the way the doctor planned and now he has a perfect bite and have had it for like 4 years :)
      Nerv damage is always a risk and after surgery you wont have any feeling at all from mid face and down but it slowly comes back and sometimes there is a little nerv damage and sometimes not. I want a good bite so much and wanted it almost my whole life so if i loose some sensitivity in my last surgery i dont really care because its not like the lips or whatever gonna get loose and hang, it will just be a little tingeling :)

    • @jakec5618
      @jakec5618 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rasmussvensson1071 yea i see wut u saying. i guess all risk vs benefit. i mean it does SUCK to have an open bite tbh. dam near impossible to chew right. its always really bothered me.
      also, regarding the nerve damage, i think the oral surgeon said he would also have to operate on my lower jaw given my case and expand the mandible. he said this would def result in nerve damage. however i wasnt really provided more info on what exactly that means. like is it just some very slight minor tingling or numbness thats not a big deal. or will i lose function and ability to move things. they dont explain more about it.
      if u know more or can direct me to where i can learn more about nerve damage and complications from that surgery i would greatly appreciate it. also, u had the upper jaw expanded ( i did to ) but now my lower jaw needs to be widened to match. do u have that same issue? and are there non surgical ways to achieve this widening of lower jaw? thanks

    i thought an overbite is when your lower jaw is to far back compared to your top jaw? so isnt the fix for an overbite to move the lower jaw forward?

    Hi dr Greg I have a bit of a overbite and a crossbite since I was eight and I had a few retainers and last year I got an expander. On the 14th of October I am getting braces and I’m excited to start my journey after all of these bites. Before I got my retainers I had those bites I explained at the start and my left front tooth was pushing diagonally into my right front tooth and I was getting worried, so I started using retainers. They worked well but I had some muscle problems and that was annoying. So here I am today still with small problems but hopefully I will finally be able to have straight teeth and my dream smile.😊

    I got braces over a month ago, I’m 21. I have a severe overbite, right now I have the removable bite plate and it sucks. The bite plate makes it so that my molars do not touch and my bottom front teeth touch the bite plate, so I literally cannot chew anything for over a month. I feels like I’ll have it forever. I hate it so much, and I’ve lost so much weight from not being able to eat regular food, eating smaller portions, and not enjoying food anymore.

    Crazy thing is that I have a cross bite under bite and an open bite... what I gather from sucking my thumb as a child. I was told that I would need surgery to correct this in my 20's and I thought to myself naaa I been this way my whole life... I don't want surgery. Well moving forward I looked into braces at 37. I went to Harmony Dental in Pearland, Texas. They fitted me for braces and said they would try to correct all that I had going on without surgery. So the put in a pallet expander in Feb. 2018. I noticed that I was starting to see the bottom of my teeth when I simply would smile. They would just say yeah that's what should happen. Every appointment I told them that something wasn't right... they cut the connection and when they did that I could feel the pain. I felt my gums and I could feel the root of my teeth about to poke through!! They fired the new Orthodontist they brought in to run the clinic (he was confused on the work the guy did before him and said that I would need to have surgery to correct it). So when I went in to have my braces tighten the original Ortho was there and I told him listen I can feel my roots. I requested that he feel what I was feeling because the look on his face was that I was lying. Once he felt the roots. They took the rest of the expander out of my mouth and he put both his knees on the chair that I was in and was trying to push my tooth back into the bone!!!! I got out of there and NEVER went back. I am now at 41 ready for surgery to correct my issues. I am so thankful that I did not loose those teeth!!! It took a while for them to go back in the bone and not be EXTREAMLY sensitive!!!

    I had braces twice as a kid (one to correct an adult tooth coming in sideways and the other a classic full set). Now it’s 8 years and impacted wisdom teeth later and come to find out (from my ortho since I just went back for the first time in ages), my lower jaw also kept growing after the last treatment and was growing in exactly the direction to jack my bite up again. Can I just cut them all out and go into dentures? That’d be great

      Yes they can fix it. I’m 54 and had my braces on for 8 months and it’s much better now. Just be warned. You’ll have the bite turbos on for at least 7 months

    I have an over jet that goes out to my bottom braces (like the furthest part out on them) and a deep bite that goes to mid bottom braces
    What severity level would those be considered?

    I used to have open bite because my tongue would always stick out. My case was not severe so I wore braces for two years. After removal of my braces my orthodontist gave me invisible braces to for the rest of my life but I wore them for a couple of weeks then I stopped and guess what 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️ my teeth are going back the way they were and my invisible braces don’t even fit my teeth no more

    can you do a video on expanders for adults? i keep reading that it "can" work for adults but along with that, it "can't" because the bone is already fused. I'm 29 with an expander and orthodontist that doesn't really explain things too much before doing them (possible due to the fact i'm getting work done in japan though he does speak english)

    • @aznboy131
      @aznboy131 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      MARPE/mini-screw assisted expanders are still new. Jury's still out. Most orthodontists have no experience with them, and those who have have had mixed results. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails, sometimes it fails then it works. You can certainly ask your ortho if he's willing to try. The intermaxillary suture isn't *completely* fused by your 20s - a fact which the anti-extraction crowd loves to repeat ad nauseum - but since fusion begins around age 12-14, it's often become fused enough by that point that the suture appears obliterated (nonexistent) on radiographs. What that means is that the sutural split becomes very difficult without at least some corticopuncture (using a screw to punch a line of holes in the suture through the roof of the mouth) to help the appliance along.
