Glad to know I'm not the only one with braces on for over 4 years (they're still on right now). Unfortunately though the results currently aren't very pleasing. Before I even got braces on (and even around the time I first got them), my teeth actually seemed to look better in certain ways. You could actually see my teeth when I smiled and my smile actually looked like a legit smile. Now, 4 years later, you can barely see any of my teeth when I smile, and my smile is extremely flat due to my lower lip not curving really like how it used to. It's almost like I'm grimacing more than I am smiling.
(I really do hope it can perhaps get fixed. My mom's not too happy with how my teeth look so far, especially with her having to spend over 8k on just the braces alone in attempt to straighten them out. Oh, maybe one day my smile will look good. 😢)

About 5-6 years ago i broke my left front tooth really badly. Almost all of it was chipped off, including parts of the root. I got braces for 3 years, to “bring the tooth down” so it would be easier to attach the part that got chipped. Three years and a 3 hour operation that resulted in 21 stitches in my gums with anesthesia that didn’t work well later, it fell off almost immediately it was glued together. Fortunately No surgery was needed to glue it again and it hasn’t fallen off since. Lately, however, it has started to turn black, as if it is dying, although we have removed the nerve. It is not too bad as of now, but i also have to deal with enflamed gums, which still haven’t returned to normal. Mind you, all this started when i was like 8. Now, I am 13, dealing with the consequences of my younger self…
    Bonus details:
-When my tooth fell off, almost none of it was left to show, and the person responsible for me at the time, one of my friend’s mom, said it didn’t look any different.
-The first colors i got on my bands were yellow, white, green. Then blue(bad choices)
-When it fell off again after the surgery, i was biting down on a piece of bread.
-The accident happened while i was trying to balance on the edge of the sidewalk
-My tooth won’t be fully fixed until I am 18, when i will probably cover it with a veneer, since it is already kind of shaved, but i may pick a cheaper option.
-I swallowed probably around half a cup of blood during the surgery
-Some of my friends are still not used to me not having braces
-The braces didn’t even even out my teeth :(

You sure are very well-spoken and wise for 13. Troublesome experience can be a good teacher. You also sound very practical and optimistic and I’m sure that will take you a long way in your recovery. I got braces 10 years ago and now I’m 65. I’m so happy with all of it. Me and my permanent retainers are not going to have any old people crooked teeth, lol.

    • @Muhmineen
      @Muhmineen 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Personally, since the tooth is so broken, they shouldn't have done braces to bring the tooth down. Such nonsense as that weakens the teeth and the root, it's not like it has unlimited supply of root to be pulled down. The cost of braces for 3 years amd then a questionable looking tooth vs maybe root canal treatment with crown which won't take 3 years but perhaps 1 or 2 dental visits is much better option in hindsight? Or what about just remove the tooth and place an implant with false tooth on top? My husband currently has a front tooth that's exactly as u described. It's darkening in colour and the gums around it look puffy so inflamed I guess. It's definitely important to have something there either a crown or implant to prevent bone reabsorption and surrounding teeth moving about due to instability, the jaw resulting in a face that's more asymmetrical.

My treatment lasted for eight years with a two year break from braces in the middle for just a top and bottom retainer. I had cross bite and tongue thrust. My orthodontist finally realized that when he told me to always wear my rubber bands, I would ALWAYS wear my rubber bands. He had to tell me to only sometimes wear my rubber bands to shift my teeth to the correct spot by the time of my next appointment.

I don’t understand why they tell us to wear our rubber bands ALL THE TIME (I asked specifically if I was ever to take them off except for changing them and they said no) and then are surprised when we end up over correcting from actually wearing them all the time. “You’ve been rubber-banding a little too hard” I LITERALLY DID EXACTLY WHAT YOU TOLD ME

I was running in the kitchen when I was 8 years old, and the kitchen floor is rough, I tripped over the carpet and I fell right into my teeth and nose, my nose bleeding so much and my front teeth all got broken, and so,e of the teeth were cut in half, i was crying In pain, I went to the emergencies, and now I have braces and I’m 14 yo, when I was 11, I implanted my teeth to grow, which was the front teeth, hope u read this, byeee

I can't imagine how painful it was to break your teeth in half!! Did getting the implants hurt, too? How many teeth did they have to remove to give you the implants? And don't worry about getting your braces taken off. It will feel weird at first when you get your braces off. Your teeth will feel so slippery! But it will ultimately feel so much better not to have braces. You will finally get to see what your teeth look like without braces! It will be exciting.

I had braces for a combined (almost) 6 years, i had some pretty severe problems with my facial structure and teeth. I had three different sets/phases of braces. I had the palette expander, lower jaw expander, the lip bumper thing (I was born without a muscle in my lip, i had to train the rest of my muscles to work without it), i had to get all of my baby teeth removed, fix my cross bite (took so, so long), fix my overbite, my literal teeth didn’t bite together efficiently so I had to get the tops of my molars altered, etc. etc.
My third set of braces was only on my bottom teeth and it was purely cosmetic-even though it was six months since being “done” with my braces entirely, my orthodontist wasn’t satisfied with how my bottom teeth looked. He put a complementary set of braces on for 6 months. He then fit me with a permanent retainer.
Honestly, I’d do it all over again. My teeth are beautiful. It took forever, but wow. My orthodontist was a literal artist.

I want to get braces soon and I’m really scared but I also just want to not be in paint when I eat so I’ve been binging your videos for some comfort.
I’m not so much nervous about looking bad so much as I’m nervous about change and I’m also nervous about being uncomfortable. Any tips from anyone who’s worn braces? I have sensory issues and might be on the spectrum so I just worry about it so much that I’ve stalled for like a year now. 😥

I had braces so long ago that I don't really remember everything about them, but I remember that normally, they weren't painful and I didn't notice them. Once or twice, a wire would come loose and that never hurt, but it felt weird. I would go to the orthodontist immediately and get that fixed, so it was okay. My teeth felt a little sore, like not pain but it felt like I needed to bite down on something each month after I would get my braces tightened, but that feeling would be gone in a few hours. They really weren't uncomfortable! What was extremely uncomfortable for me was Invisalign. That was a sensory nightmare. They have to glue tiny little attachments on your teeth about every six weeks for your Invisalign retainers to grip onto, and each time they do that, they have to use a drill to shave the extra glue off your teeth. It isn't supposed to hurt, but it felt so cold I could barely stand it. For some reason, the glue hurt my teeth, too. The whole process seemed to make my teeth ridiculously sensitive for weeks afterwards. Switching my retainers once a week meant my teeth were moving so fast that they started to really hurt, and it became hard to eat. The orthodontist said the fast movement that happens with Invisalign can cause pain. I didn't experience any of that when I had braces as a kid. I would definitely suggest braces over Invisalign! But once your braces are off, wear your retainers every night if you can. Because I didn't wear my retainers, and my teeth moved, so that is why I had to get Invisalign later on.

i'll have to have braces for about 4 years in total- i had a phase one, which i'm so grateful for because man my teeth were crazy. then i got them off, got 5 baby teeth pulled a few months ago (kinda sad when you're 14 with baby teeth) and i got phase two on like two weeks after that. i'm much more smiley now :)

My grandma and parents all had braces for more than four years I’m pretty lucky considering the fact my teeth are nearly perfect because it was very unexpected but I’m getting braces in a week so yeah I have to where a rubber band on one side cause my bite is weird on the left I guess and my brother has a crossbite and he might have to get a surgery because his teeth are super crowded and he doesn’t have space for some new teeth to come in I think that’s what the orthodontist said I can’t quite remember but I’m not looking forward to have braces!

I had my braces for like… 3 and a half years. I never walked into my middle school without braces on my teeth… So, from 6th grade (age 11, all the way to the summer before my freshman year (almost turned 14)
I had an overbite, and a lot of baby teeth to start, so phase one was definitely necessary. Shout out to my mom to making me get them early bc now I’ve been loving my smile and im not insecure about them anymore 💕

I had braces and really wouldn't wish the experience on anybody. Having metal wires and brackets in my teeth 24/7 never felt comfortable and I had issues like brackets breaking off and wires poking out the back. It felt like there was a needle constantly pressing into my mouth and I had to get an appointment to get it cut. The good news is it ISNT forever and I promise it's going to feel amazing to finally get them off, and you wont have to go through it ever again.

Oh absolutely! I had a massive underbite as a kid, went through phase one and two. Palette expander and upper braces with headgear at night for a while, then an upper retainer until phase two. They gave me the Hollywood braces, tops and bottoms with the goddamn ELASTICS. Now all I have is night time retainers. So worth it. My mouth was a mess. Now it’s perfect. Don’t quit.

As someone who had braces and jaw surgeries on and off again trough childhood I get the frustration. When I was 18, I was so done that I put stop to it and had them remove the hardware. The whole process made me hate any dental practises so much that I got into bad habits and spent more time fixing cavities later. Decade later I can tell my bite is still off and it feels as if the teeth are too close together to a point flossing is a pain in the butt.

I had my braces for 5 years. My teeth grew in all directions and places. So the first 3-4 years was literally pulling my teeth to their correct spots and twisting my teeth to face the right direction. So painful 🥹. Then the last year was like correcting a little overbite and making sure all my teeth were aligned. I got made fun of so bad because of my teeth. Thank my momma for getting me braces 💙.
