I used to share a Gameboy with my older brother we also shared a copy of Pokemon leaf green and Pokemon Ruby. Since he was older it was his game so I could play it but never was able to save it. So I spent a few years playing the game he never touched but he wouldn't let me save. I played over and over and eventually was able to beat the game in a day and it was awesome I loved Pokemon and my dad surprised me and got me a DS and then diamond and pearl came out and it was awesome to finally play my own game, and I have never stopped playing. #thankyougamefreak
I did the same thing but it was with my cousin and since I was at my cousin house every other day I would always highjack his game and play but not save until I got Pokemon black and white and then I got all the other games and played each one.

I remember when I was a kid and got my very first Gameboy Color, it was the red version. 1st game I played was Pokemon Red. Then I got the Gameboy SP and Played Silver and Pokemon Silver was probably the last generation I played on a Nintendo Device and now in it's 8th Generation, I can finally justify getting a switch and playing again, ,because 1st the Switch is a way better console compared the device prior, and the timing is perfect for me as well. So yeah.. #thankyougamefreak

I was not that good at socializing as a kid. I can't remember the exact year, I think it was in 1998 when I was able to play Pokémon. The game helped me get along with some of the kids at school, first the kid who played the same game, then branching out. Now that I think about it most of the friends I have are mostly people who play Pokemon and up to this day those people I played Pokémon with, I still interact with at a daily basis. So thank you Game Freak and Pokémon.

same. the pokemon anime was new but I already knew half the pokemon in the game and I made a list. people tried to call me out on my 'bullshit' but I proved them wrong the next day by painstakingly screenshotting each pokemon from a gameboy emulator (no$gb is a lifesaver) and pasted them onto MSWord along with their names. should've seen the look on their faces when i brought that list to school. all 151 with a secret hidden MissingNo sprite and its name written in lighter font. the next day I made copies and sold them for P5 a pop. made bank that day.

No no no no, no, please! Even up to this date there are still people who don’t understand that the main reason behind this controversy isn’t the inability to have all pokémon caught, but rather the inability to CHOOSE between any Pokémon you’d like to include on your team!
Also, be aware that dozens of gen 1 Pokémon are entirely absent in this game, including iconic ones like Pidgey, Jigglypuff, Chansey, and even Dragonite.
@Griffin Damicantonio i'm tired rn but please be aware they are reusing the models and animation for almost every pokémon and move, and even then they were "unable" to port them all.

This is totally the plan for me when Animal Crossing comes out. I already have the money for the game and system saved and stashed so my wife can play all the Animal Crossing she wants and leaves my system alone. lol.

We reserved and completely paid off the Pokémon Sword & Shield double pack along with Strategy Guide and Pokedex. The hype is fierce, gonna go pick it up Thursday night at GameStop midnight launch.

But recently bought myself this Pokémon edition switch lite and yesterday traded my wife’s og switch to GameStop for $150 and paid the additional $50 to get her the turquoise switch lite
Now we both have switch lites for ourselves and use my og switch as a shared unit now for when we wanna play together on our 65inch 4K tv

Subbed yesterday. Saw the title and though I’d made a mistake pre-ordering my first Switch, since it’s the Pokemon Lite version. I’m super hyped for Sword/Shield!
I got it and I really hope the satisfye grip comes with a clear version so I can see through and enjoy the back of the switch.
Tbh the thing that really makes me want to play pokemon is the strategy involved and the story. This what drew me into ultra sun and moon. How the story line goes is one of the thing that I most are about. If the game has all mons but "meh" storyline then there's no point in getting the game cause you'll be playing the same past games but with a couple new Pokémon added in... I think more ppl should in to consideration what gf is actually tring to do. It is way harder than you think to come up with a storyline that will one want to play from start to finish...
I hope more ppl appreciate what gf is doing for us.

Hey man, I LOVE the history the games gave. Gen 4 was my favorite, especially introducing new things to boost for battles and the world building showing the origins of the Pokemon world. I had followed the animé and quite enjoyed even the latest season.
Still, I think you had been fair with your reactions to the issues the latest games have. I'm grateful for the previous games and their experiences, but I think we all just want Pokemon to be the best games they can be and that's why we just want them to do better that's all.

Well I played the first 3 generations, after that, I never touched Pokemon again. I had to grow up I was told, and eventually I did. Or so I thought I did. One day I was cleaning my room when I stumbled upon my copy of Pokemon Silver. The joy of finding AA batteries that I took for granted as a kid. Popping those bad boys into my beat em up (pun intended) Gameboy advance. And hearing the music brought me back to my childhood. I was like man what have I been missing. I eventually found Pokemon FireRed as well. Even more nostalgia and the feels lol. I started researching what games had came out that I missed and what current generation we were in. This was 2 years ago btw. I eventually bought a N2DSXL and Pokemon moon. I didn't buy the other generations but I did try to watch let's plays about them. Then when USUM came out I got both games since there were the last to be made for the 3ds systems. A year later I bought a switch because they had announced Pokemon let's go games. And now?? Yeah buddy we getting that Pokemans shield. It's because of my old love of Pokemon that I got back into gaming in general. I was told to grow up but my inner child was alive and well. So sorry about the lengthy response but that's why I say #thankyougamefreak

I bought my wife Sword and myself Shield. I also bought her a Grookey stuffed animal because I know she will freak when she sees it. When we first started dating and even to this day, we regularly go on Pokemon Go dates and walk around a lake and then go out to eat where a gym is. I bought her Let's Go Pikachu so she could keep the fun at home as well and get into playing Pokemon on a console because she never got to play much Pokemon growing up. We love Pokemon and bond over so many Pokemon related things. #thankyougamefreak

I've been playing pokemon since the age of 3, used to play on my father's gameboy color. At that age I didn't even know any english, I just enjoyed the game itself and ever since I've been hooked on the whole pokemon franchise. Haven't missed a single main series game up to date, doubt I ever will and thanks to pokemon I've made friends, learned a new language (well, pokemon and other video games included), spent thousands of hours on them and I'm still excited as crap for the new ones. #thankyougamefreak

I remember at school, all of my friends were talking about pokemon all the time, they kept mentioning a pignite, a tepig, a snivy, a pikachu. I had no idea what they were talking about. I literally had to lie for a while and pretend like I knew what they were talking about. One day, pokemon Black and White the anime came on around the time I had to go to school. I wanted to watch it so badly to see what these pokemon actually looked like, I didn't have a phone so I couldn't tell. So I pretended to have a headache so I could stay and watch it. That episode I saw was so amazing and I finally could see those pokemon for the first time. Still to this day, tepig will allways be my favorite pokemon.

Alastair Hutton I loved it though people who don’t have very valid reasons. There are definitely some things I would change and considering its on the Switch the design could’ve been better. I’ve already beaten the game and now I’m just catching Pokemon in the Wild Area which is actually pretty addicting, especially raid battles.
I like how the encounters are now and that you can pretty much avoid battling wild Pokemon if you just want to get to the next town. The way the Pokemon can be seen running around makes it feel very realistic to me.
My friends at daycare during the summer got me into to the game when I was like when diamond came out. I’ve loved the series and will continue to!!

I got this Switch Lite edition last week and love it! Definitely making it the main system for the foreseeable future.
Omg we're both born in the same year and I remember watching Pokémon on Saturday we had the training cards I still over 220 of them with me now as an adult. Pokémon was one of the first anime I ever watched and even though we lost quite a few Pokémon for the Pokédex I still got this game but never saw this switch may have to keep an eye out for it could probably find it in a second hand shop great video as always wood

I saved up forever, and when the gameboy advance sp came out, I had enough for it, so I went to the store and picked it up.. dude at store said the best game was "Pokemon; Saphire".. si my parents gifted it to me, and even though I wasn't old enough to read English, I played the game through 4-5 times.. it was just so good..

Pokémon games are a warm blanket. They innovate while playing on nostalgia in a non-toxic way. I’ve been there since blue. Bulba is the best but doesn’t need to be in every game.
I just want more Eeveelutions, I need at least 12 total + normal Eevee. Best non-legendary. I do LOVE how that Pokemon Switch Lite looks, but I'd prefer it if it was a normal Switch.

I grew up playing the originals. My first was yellow for Christmas with the purple gameboy color. My best friend at the time and I played it for hundreds of hours. We battled all the time. We would get off school early at times and he would come over pop in some totinos pizzas and play for hours! I didn’t play much of the last Pokémon release or any on the ds or 3ds. I’m pretty excited to play this and can’t wait to see a review from you. Always love your channel bro!

Same for me. At first I was a bit worried about the game because of the trailers but when I saw the leaks I just went straight to the store to pre order the game.
There is only one thing I really hope gets patched.
I have been playing Pokemon since HGSS and have all my pokemon from that game in usum and would like to send them al over to swsh.

@@themris I have watched someone play the entire game early and my god is it not good with it being easier than let's go and you need gym badges to catch higher level Pokémon and moves being removed plus you can't turn off exp share plus they auto heal after every battle in the elite 4 removeing the challenge and the wild area being so empty with nothing in it plus no post game just a battle tree
I got into Pokemon when the X and Y anime was just starting and I got into the cards and when I started getting an allowance I bought a 3DS and Omega Ruby and enjoyed every bit of then I eventually got X and I played Moon and Ultra Moon. I love this franchise I have so many memories with it and I'm really hyped for the new game to come out despite all the controversy behind it.

My brother and I were close growing up but being that we’re a few years apart, we never had that many things in common. But pokemon was one of them. We both had a Nintendo DS with heart gold and soul silver and we would compete against each other. He would even help me beat certain gyms since he knew more about type weaknesses than I did. So thanks game freak for making games that brought my brother and I together even now with sword and shield :)

As someone who hasn't played since Gen 2 I could care less if there's pokemon missing because I'm genuinely excited for a new floorplan of the game. It's about time they revamped the brand.

If you haven't played since gen 2, I'd recommend giving gen 5 a try. Those games are much better than the trash releasing next week.
I played all gens, well almost all, if not then i played their remake. And im not like super upset. Maybe they gradually add them like pokemon go. But even if they don't it gives the new gen a better spotlight.

I moved to the states in 2000 and I remember seeing Pokémon card keychains in the store. I had no idea what pokemon was at the time but I was so fascinated by all the different creatures that I begged my mom to buy me one. It was a ninetails. That was my gateway to pokemon. Since then I played every single game. I’m 25 now and Pokemon will always have a special place in my heart

Neonskies 420 meh didn’t care for it and i don’t think the targeted switch lite audience had a care. i was more so sad that there was no rumble but when i had realized by playing on mine so much it wouldn’t make sense to have it anyways. sometimes when the volume is loud it feels like it has rumble though haha.
I can't wait to play this. Going to be coming in late because my wife and I had to sell our switch to pay bills awhile back but I am hoping to get my switch again early next year so I can play Pokemon. I have been playing Pokemon since it came out when I was a kid and it's been such an exciting experience every new game or anime that I get to experience and I cant wait to share it with my daughter who is a year old now. I'm rambling but ultimately I really appreciate your videos Wood, you're always such a great content creator. Also, my daughter just has the biggest smile on her face as she watches your video with me today so that's a win in my book.

I'm there for the new Pokemon, too, I've never been into collecting them all. So I'm cool with this game and I appreciate Gamefreak. Even if the game turns out really bad, that's ok because every dev makes bad games from time to time. It's not the end of the world, GF doesn't have to be cancelled over this one.

Bit miffed I didn't think you would give a 10% discount code for the satisfye switch grip lite would have helped when i not only paid for that but for shipping too on friday when i got my Z&Z switch lite. thanks for showing how it looks with the grip on.. and now that you mention it I feel even happier that the grip is coming soon as it will probably help maintain the design on the back allowing it doesnt scratch it when I put it on or take it off.. Hoping the lite with the grip will fit into my OG switch case. Also yes I totally agree with you its a new pokemon game, we should want to catch all the new pokemon in the game and whatever else is included.. do you really want to catch all (wait what, there is only) 807 pokemon (as of April this year) think how long that might take you ? Man, I dont remember the year or how old i was when i first got red version but it was for Christmas and i couldn't put it down. i've owned at least one pokemon game from every generation at some point including the re-makes and back when the GBA was about halfway through it's life span and even into the original Nintendo DS i had played pokemon so often and so frequently that I actually didn't pick the games up again until gen 4 had been out for a while. at that point i had become a walking encyclopedia of where the items are, what level every pokemon evolves, all of the information you'd normally go to a website for just from pure repetition and memorization. i still hold on to a great deal of that knowledge today despite taking a long (and well deserved) break from pokemon just before the release of gen 4. in fact, i remember that i was so angry about the special attack/attack changes in gen 4 purely because i wasn't seeing my gengar or alakazam performing 'as they should' in battles with the newer moves (which i hadn't realized were now based on physical/non-physical instead of type.that being said i'll never not love pokemon, and that's not the only game gamefreak even has given us. i have to feel like that level of love for pokemon exists in most, if not all of us pokemon fans, and that passion is why people are outraged, but we have to keep in mind that it's also likely *why* gamefreak is making the changes they choose to make. They *created* pokemon, and yeah they're a company and they'll always make decisions for finance as well, but it's simply hard for me to believe that they don't love pokemon as much as we do, and even if some of their decisions are unpopular I'd rather see unpopular decisions in an effort to make things new or different than popular decisions pandering entirely to nostalgia, perhaps even preventing the games from growing at all. That being said I don't think the inclusion of the national dex would have been one of those things that would in any way prevent things from being new or interesting, but at the same time I have to believe they really believe it's the right move for the franchise and not just another way to get us to spend more money. I'm more worried about moves like 'ultra sword and shield', selling us the exact same story and game with slightly different features or an end game that could have been included to begin with than a lack of pokemon that i love. #thankyougamefreak
I remember when red and blue came out, my grandmother and my mother got me a game boy and both games one year for Christmas I was super excited and would play them all day and at night I would sit under a lamp I grew up with Pokemon and will continue to play the games #thankyougamefreak

Oh man same wood I remember getting pokemon when I was 8 and I just couldnt believe there was such a massive adventure on my gameboy pocket. I dont think I played any game more from the ages of 8 through 12 than Pokemon.
I remember I got in to Pokémon mainly when the x and y games came out, those were a blast to play! Looking forward to the new game to get it soon!
From what I've seen in the trailers the game can't be bad. I've played every single pokemon and it got me out of a rough place as a foster kid. Can't wait! Dratini or no dratini!

Yeah the game will be great.
I think the real problem (besides not all of the pokemon being in the game) is that people's expectations were set way too high for the first main line console pokemon game. I think they wanted Breath of the Wild but with pokemon but instead we are getting a Pokemon game with better graphics.

thank you for this vid Wood, the last part reminded me of the first pokemon game i bought, Pokemon Diamond, the countless hours we spent with my friends playing at school (in class actually xD) were prob my fave hours there. I had been watching pokemon since i was like 3-4yo but never got to play the games till i got my first Nintendo DS and after that i got to play all the older ones on my laptop through emulation since i couldn't afford them or even find them where i live. Pokemon will always have a special place in my heart and I can't wait to buy a switch and pkmn shield with my first salary soon :D Lots of love from Greece
This is my every day console. I find the silicone cases to be the most protective if everyday wear, huge dust magnet though! I'll clean excess lint off with a damp cloth.

I'm getting the dark grey simply because I plan on littering it with bright stickers underneath a clear case, and the dark grey is simple the best one for making those stickers pop, plus it's the closest to black that I can get with the switch lite
I'm the exact same age as you Wood so my pokémon story is incredibly close to yours. I remember the day I got Pokémon blue, I just could not put it down! Even though I am a bit disappointed with some of the aspects of sword and shield, I'm still excited to sit down and play it day one.

yea like when did having a full pokemon dex /"gotta catch em all" taken literally then defined pokemon when was just a slogan? I loved P platinum had my fav pokemon/ story n characters after that looking into the newer games I was put of from getting them cuz how repetitive/ monotonous it looked but that wasn't until Poke sun and moon came out and loved it to death am glad for any changes should let lt evolve :b

It’s more about how game freak came up with excuses for it. They said they were creating new animations and stuff, but they didn’t. The games are still years behind in graphics. I’ve seen some leaks where I’d even go so far as to say they look TERRIBLE. Like the legendary Pokémon don’t even have turning animations. They just spin around. People feel like more care should be put into the series.
I remember winning pokemon red from a kids contest in the newspaper. My mom couldn't afford a GB for me so I had it in the box for months. It looked so cool, I still remember the feeling. And then on christmas day I got a GB pocket, the yellow one, and I enjoyed that game SO much. I chose Bulbasaur just because but my babysitter reset the game out of nowhere (this was like, space era technology for her at the time) and I picked up the charmander after. I wasn't sure what the game was saying half of the time but it was the greatest thing. It made my childhood a happy one. #thankyougamefreak

Born 1990 as well. Had a rough gameboy pocket and a copy of red version. Plus the cards and watching the show when my mom wasnt hogging the tv.
I have a limited edition Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee switch- and I'm generally not gentle on my electronics. Luckily I had saved some Amazon gift cards and got a screen protector, a clear casing (so the design still shows) and a storage case for it. Never is a bad investment if you got something limited edition!
