    This is amazing,
    Kristen & Siya. I looked at current prices for a 31' model and the Base Price, fully loaded is $149,900. Even it yous had $15,000 less some of the luxuries, that's still $134,900. Not counting the cost of your Airstream purchase, all you had left when you began the renovation was the metal shell. That's it. So everything is new and your will be able to enjoy this treasure for many years and/or decades to come. All the best wishes for a happy, safe journey, with excellent views and wonderful friendships along the way. God bless you both on your way. : )

    That's actually much more reasonable than I expected especially considering the labor cost and the luxury items you have (like the $800 sink). It's at about the same price as many commercially built tiny houses and offers similar space as well, but I think it is much more mobile. Congrats guys!

      I can absolutely understand why you did it. You are investing in your home and into something that you use every day. I think that's a very good choice if that means you enjoy using it more.

    New to the channel. My dad recently passed away and I am inheriting his camper. I will watch more of your channel. My partner and I are free spirited and never felt like we could find someplace to call home yet. Remodeling my camper might be what I dream of doing and turning it into a modular home. Airstreams are awesome.

    I am very impressed with the cost of the renovation. For cutting no corners, you guys spent much less than you would in a traditional home, plus you get the benefits of being off grid and environmentally friendly! I'm only in high school, but once I'm on my own with stable finances, this would be a project that I'd much enjoy!! :)

    Guys I hope you read this...
    I’m going to get esoteric. Regardless of the overall cost, you accomplished two main things; A true custom, and your moneys employed those in our economy that keep craftsman such as these employed, with one less item relegated to the trash heap.
    Great job guys!

    During my 21,000 motorcycle tour of the USA, I met a couple, camping on a lakebed, in Montana, who had retired to an airstream, and were travelling the USA with it. They had a summer site they owned in Mass. for summer stops, and another in Florida, for winter.
    They had visited Alaska, but got badly pestered by mosquitoes. The whole vehicle was bug screened, so they were very puzzled as to how they were getting into their home.
    Eventually, they found that the air-conditioner, wasn't bug screened.
    Problem solved!
    We shared a couple of evening meals. I bought the meat, they provided the veg, and cooking facilities.
    Stayed clear of big cities as much as possible, except for visiting friends and relatives.
    Many pleasant memories. Trip of a lifetime!
    .

    I love your renovation. I think the price is cheaper than if you bought a new Airstream. I know because we once priced them. I think for your tiny home and having it done to your liking, that's a great value.

      $200,000 brand new! Crazy to think we paid 1/3 cost of a new airstream and got it custom.

  • @JeffCKeane
    @JeffCKeane 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wise choice, y'all. I recently toured a DFW Airstream Dealer, and found some awesome discounts on BRAND NEW AIRSTREAMS, but, "alas", I do not wish to carry a MORTGAGE on a damn camper. Plus. They are all cheapie "beige". My apartment is freakin beige. Beige is BLAND. and yukkkkkkky.
    The airstreams that have a comfortable spacious feel are all in the $90,000.00 + u.s.d. range. Emphasis on the plus. They also feature warm cherry or walnut darker cabinetry finishes, nice detail upgrades, fold down counter extensions, sink cover for extra prep counterspace...stuff like that. Generally those pluses put one up into the $150,000.00 + range. Again, emphasis on the plus. Nice, if you have a nice, plush business income. For hourly schlubs, not so much, or you're back to said mortgage. On a trailer. Oh, yes, the pricing does not include a tow vehicle. You need at least a 1/2 ton pickup with heavy duty suspension and horsepower to tow a "sport" 1 axle @18 to 23' give or take. Make the pickup have probably dually wheels for the "flying cloud" dual axle @ 20 to 28' or so, and throw in a cap for the pickup for extra supply storage space in both scenarios. These might tack on anywhere from (new)$40,000.00 to $60,000.00 plus tow packages and bed caps. Tonnaus are not really as helpful.
    So, yeah. Unless rich Mom& Dad or eccentric millionaire uncle Buck is willing to set you up, your gonna be paying...and paying...and paying. And, "alas", again, no land or utilities to stop moving around and park onto to avoid the grid costs.
    It would appear, to have an Airstream movable "home"; the best course of action is to renew-vate someone else's cast off. This way, if you do extensive research and planning, you will be able (with some compromising...) to get extremely close to what you want and will need. Just, don't get impatient...😉😎 I know what you're thinking

      No such thing as a "rim" job. It's a "REAM" job. Look it up in the dictionary. Ream means to enlarge an opening. You may use fingers, tongue or penis. I know they call it rim in porn but thats because those guys arent too educated, so they say it wrong. Theyre rich but theyre dumb. Anyway, I wouldnt have mentioned it but Im sick of reading about "rimming" so I had to say something. You can go on saying it wrong if you want. Its your choice, but now you know. Have fun reaming. =)

    Your Airstream is beautiful, it is always worth putting time and money into your home to make it the best imho. $700 for the cushions is really reasonable. Sewing workroom labor is expensive and the price of fabric that you chose also factors into that as well as the inserts. If you think of the amount of time you use them it's money well spent.

      I loved seeing Luna at the LTA Summit! But with all due respect, the top of the line brand new 2018 airstream list price is $141k. That’s the “Classic” model. Most people negotiate that price so you would expect to pay even less.

      I think some are missing the point of his comment. So he may have exaggerated what the cost of a new rig is, it doesnt change the fact that they paid less than half of the cost of a new airstream AND were able to completely customize it to their style and needs! Plus, they paid extra for quality pieces and elements. Not to mention, they can go completely off the grid! I say that's totally worth it and the result are amazing!

    Y'all, now that is NICE!!! I think you's guys did great. Do you know how much it weighs now fully loaded with water, etc., like you're living in it? And, what truck y'all tow with? I'm surprised at the high cost of some things, and the low cost of some things I thought would be more. I think you evened it out as good as could be done. I know you'll be glad you didn't scrimp.

    Well, I was going to click Subscribe, but then you said not to. :P Just kidding. I just stumbled across your channel, and I wanted to say that was an excellent breakdown of all the different costs. I have a '63 Flying Cloud 22-ft I'm debating whether I want to renovate or just get rid of. The underbelly got ripped at one point, and I know that the subfloor is rotting and the water system leaks. Plus, I would want to replace the wiring system anyway, and half of the inside has been previously gutted (no "L" sofa/bed, fridge is missing, etc) so I would have to literally strip all the way down to the bare frame and work my way back up. Your video has given me more insight into what all is involved. Thank you.

    Considering the price of new Airstreams, or the price of new RVs of considerably less quality, $54k isn't bad for the final product. Make sure it's insured at that value. Keep receipts and take many pix.

    I LOVE love your airstream!!! Just out of curiosity do you guys live off the grid completely with no internet? do you have an internet system or just use cellular data. Really curious to see if thats a possibility!

      We stay on and off grid. Earlier this month we were in the middle of nowhere in a desert and kept our batteries charged with solar. We've also stayed in trailer parks so that we can plug into power & water and have access to wifi.

    That's not bad price for living, but you have to have a car for towing that thing around, if wanted. Or you can just tow it by yourself i guess, gaining some muscle and all.
    my family custom built a camper like this for vacation trips and such but they have construction business so there were big money saver from all the labour work.
    I have question; how is the airstearm of yours heated? don't you live in Canada, there i guess is cold winter time yeah?

    • @SiyaZarrabi
      @SiyaZarrabi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We moved it to California for Winter. We also have an F-150 to tow it with.
