And of course my hand brake cable doesnt just pull out the back of the plate like yours - mine has an extra joint that needs to be taken apart first - and of course you have the joy of not having to work on rust buckets like here in the UK where cars dissolve
You don’t actually need to remove those clips because the shoe has a slot in it not a hole. You can actually slide the shoe out by just using a flat head screwdriver under the spring and popping the washer out of the locating hole.
Those retaining springs are a bitch because of that ridiculous hub design (no cuts outs and too small of a hole) - i got a kitchen fork , removed the middle prong , ground the outer edge of the remaining 2 (to fit in the stupid small hole) and put a slight outward bend on the last 2mm of each prong to fit either side of the pin on the retainer
I just did handbrake shoes yesterday. One of the worst jobs ever!
Todd Lauren cut a v into a chisel and used it to twist the retaining clips. Worked a charm.
