- Rawlings has finally ditched the "Velo" BBCOR line after 10 years - and is replacing it with the 2024 Mach AI. Today we're gonna see if it can hang with the DeMarini Voodoo One!

I have to say it. The sound of the 2023 Icon is iconic. Much better than the ping of the other bats. Great effort today, thanks as always for what you do.

I love the Voodoo One always has but for its price range it really makes me change my mind on this bat but this Mach AI makes me want to try it out and see if its better than the voodoo one
If you guys could ever find the Red Rawlings Velo (I believe 2017 model) and test that one compared to the recent velo bats. That would be neat to see. That velo was legit. I don't know what they done different in the models after.

I don’t know what it is but I had the Velo back in the day and I couldn’t get used to it. The 21 Voodoo One was the first one piece bbcor bat I loved. Tapped out boss I couldn’t tell ya.
Hey I was wondering if you guys have ever tried to get your hands on the old school TPX air attack bats from the 90s. I think they only lasted a year or 2 because they were so hot guys were getting hurt like crazy so they outlawed them. They actually had a bladder inside filled with air that caused it to have a trampoline affect and they were crazy hot.
Find an old Rawlings Big Stick C555. I remember using that in HS.

Will is an absolute tank these days. These stiff 1 piece bbcor bats are just not it for him anymore. But I still believe they are the right choice for like 75% of buyers. All the of the 13/14u kids are always going to be better off with the bat they can swing and control the easiest. The high schoolers that are moving to a longer bat this spring, are also probably going to be better off with lightest swing weight possible. I think the two piece and even the slightly heavier Atlas style bats are a decent idea for strong players that have swung the same length bat for at least a year prior. Otherwise get the Voodoo/CatX/MachAI/Strato etc.
I don't think "stiffness" or 1-piece/2-piece has anything to do with age or size.
Tons of big college players swing 1-piece bats (Goods 1-piece, Omaha, Voodoo One, Easton ALX, Solo).
My honest take:
If the Atlas is "too heavy" for a player, they seriously need to consider dropping to a lower size/length.
The Atlas is already lighter swinging than most BBCOR bats, and going with the "lightest possible bbcor bat on the market" really sacrifices sweet spot and pop on mis-hits.
And I appreciate the Tank comment, but I'm 5'10" 200 lbs - same size as I was senior year of high school lol
@@baseballbatbrosagreed. Too many players swing bats too long for them growing up because they only swing balanced bats in usssa. Coaches don't know the difference and tell them to go up in length. As soon as they move to bbcor, where the swing weight is regulated beyond just the scale weight, some kids have to move down in length. When I fit a person for a bat, first thing I do is find their ideal length. THEN I go by swingweight

Yes bottom half is where your power comes from.
Not all hitters are the same though. Some don’t lift their front leg at all. Usually hitters that are trying to get in base more than hit for power but not always.

@@Alecbassindale-- Never really too old to start any sport, fitness is what matters. Baseball is a very technical sport though so even if you're strong and fast you won't get the results you should unless you have solid mechanics. Thankfully these days there are a plethora of online resources on the subject and you can get a good idea of what to work on just from those. I'd suggest doing a bit of research into the big things like proper throwing and swing mechanics before you start(both for good results and injury prevention) but if you just want to have fun and mess around, go for it. Have fun! Also, you brits are the ones who started calling it soccer in the first place ;)
@@Alecbassindale-- no different than going to the range and hitting golf balls. Buy two cheap gloves and some balls and have a friend play catch with you. Maybe look for a batting cage online near you. Go there and you pay a few dollars (pounds) and hit balls off a machine like this one. Might be hard to find in the UK though.

Need to compare the rope to the icon. I think you will be impressed. The rope is legit.
I feel like it needs a break in process. First couple rounds the Mach with I hated it, but then I started to mash with it after awhile.
alloy doesn't break-in. only composite.
Since there's a smaller sweet spot, there's definitely something to be said for getting used where the contact point is on the Mach AI.
Rawlings should have kept the Velo name.
My son used to love those bats before the 2020-21 versions, which made them too toothpicky.
A Velo Prime, updated to be as good as the Voodoo One, would have been killer.
