I did the exact same thing on my 2010. I also had some of the nutserts turn. I took one of those three in one touch up paint brushes and painted the scratches in the bolt heads, around the nutsert, and the bolt. With the paint and then the clear it added another level of sealing. I have not had any leak issues despite all the rain we have here in Florida.

Prior to you pushing this one out, others I'd seen on how to do this were *bad.* For the record - the roof rack, step bars, and badging are the only things that mark that vehicle as the Z71 in the 03-06 model years. I'm personally a fan of the 03-06 MY Z71s because the roof rack and step bars give it its aggressive look (relative to the LS and LT models). Don't know if you care about the Z71 "footprints," but definitely keep that rack around - it'll only go up in demand among Z71 "purists!"
Way better without the rack !! I had an envoy long ago and the group I was in... some guys used the door moldings to cover the holes when they removed their racks. Looked clean and looked factory. Again looks good.
Man that Tahoe has come a long in a short amount of time! Look nothing like it did when you purchased it. After it's lowered it's gonna be a nice ride! ✌

Looks good off. I have an 03 Tahoe lifted 6’’ on 35’s with a rack and it won’t fit in my garage but I use the rack for camping so I can’t decide what to do.

great video! i went to junkyard to remove z71 rack...luckily i made sure j had a 2.5 mm hex bit-saved me a lit of hassle. Question.. i intend to go back for running tubes as well...what size ratchet should i use...what size bolts. any help would be appreciated...cant find via google search. thanks

Just a idea but the pillars between the windows would be cool if wrapped those in black vinyl were they flowed with the window.

I just picked up a 03 z71 Tahoe, looks much better, any plans on the suspension, lowering it or leveling kit on it, looks soo much cleaner then with the rack
I know this is old but, if I just wanted to get the large side bars out to repaint them do I need to remove all the Allen screws or can you slide them out just removing those 10mm?
Yeah, unfortunately I have to haul stuff from the hardware store pretty regularly because my dad's shortbed pickup is worthless for anything longer than 6ft. So no rack removal for me. I do think no rack looks a tad better though.
@@TWAMotorsports the reason why I ask because the stainless steals bolts that you have on The link below the video it says on Amazon M6 25 mm and the link for the bottom bolts on Amazon it says M6 30mm.. lol and do these bolts rust? Because I live in the Midwest, so it snows here in the winter. lol

Understand that
The 2007-2014 Chevrolet Tahoe’s look good without the roof rack but the 2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe’s look pretty good with the Z71 roof rack
