Just bought an 05 Tahoe, 1 owner with 80k on it. Planning to pull the rack off and put a Belltech 759 kit on it for a mild drop. Appreciate your videos on all these trucks, it's super nice to get an idea of what's going on before you actually do it.
I love my 05 Tahoe, I would recommend the Dorman transmission pan with the drain plug built in. I drain and fill mine about every 20k and my 224,000 mile transmission is still going strong. And nothing to worry about with that 5.3 it will run forever if you take care of it. Enjoy your low mileage truck.
Looks good with the rack removed! I keep debating doing same this mod to my '03 Tahoe. As always, great content and fun to watch you go through the basic of updating and fixing your latest daily driver.
Did the same thing on the rack back in 2008-09 to my wife’s Yukon. I also went to the 03-up truck front grille/bumper after a little fender bender to make it a little different
I have a 2005 Trailblazer & I bought some stainless steel hex head screws to put back in. My TB is like a silverish grey & so the stainless steel screws should do pretty good up there! Keep'em coming my brudda👍🏿
I really enjoy watching your Tahoe videos and I think the mods and style on this truck is great! I am in the middle of my 2005 Tahoe mod as well and appreciate all of your insight and design ideas. I am not sure about lowering the trucks yet, but it's growing on me because I like a more elegant and refined look on my Tahoe versus utility. Unfortunately my roof rack is putting up one hell of a fight with four screws that I have not been able to budge in over three days of efforts. I really want that rack off, and may have to cut it off if I have to.
Yes, unfortunately I had to cut it off. However, I am thankful that I did since the roof metal around one of the screws was rusting out! I was in shock to see this, but can now start the repair process and prevent further "surprises".@@TWAMotorsports
I’ve plugged the holes a bunch of different ways as I’m always pulling off roof racks but recently I’ve started ordering these rubber plugs, you can order them in any millimeter you need and there super cheap but you have to push out the riv nut, clean look though
I replaced the roof rack on my 2004 Yukon Denali with a factory roof rack from a 2004 Cadillac Escalade. It is a MUCH cleaner look than the Tahoe/Yukon rack.
I like this method! Keep the videos coming Travis. I’m working on throwing in a Tahoe center console lid instead of the flat Denali one. Putting a wireless phone charger pad in it
I have an 04 Chevy suburban that needs to have the roof rack deleted so thank you for this video. The reason why I'm deleting the roof rack is because I believe that's where I have a water leak from. As far as I can see all the screws so that would lead me to believe it's from the insert any suggestions
The easiest way to get rid of the roof racks is to drive up to the edge of a mountain, put a brick on the accelator pedal, and throw it in drive. Those things are garbage
I’m still looking for a Z71 rack to put on my 05. Yea, once they spin your in for a full day event. I had to remove a lot during re-paints from factory pealing
If it spins you need to go ahead and pull the rivnut out. It will flare up on the edge of the hole. Just lightly tap the edges of hole back down. Then use a rivnut gun and follow the instructions with your rivnut gun to install a new rivnut. I recommend one from Stark( cheap but good) It is highly probable that you wont be able to use the same thread size. Also you probably wont get closed bottom rivnuts so you need to use thread sealant to seal water from getting in. Your other option to all this is to apply body work principles to fill the hole ( strip, weld, sand, sand, sand, spot fill, primer, paint, clear )
Do you have the exact size for the bolts you ordered? I followed your amazon link but it have many different sizes for that product. Just want to make sure i choose the correct size. Thank you sir and great video.
The threads of the new black bolts in the Amazon link did not fit my 2005 Suburban. I had to order M6-1.0 x 20mm. Likely the bolt thread sizes differ by year/model. I would suggest you take one screw out and measure it to determine your thread size and length needed before ordering. If you follow the Amazon link it takes you to a store that has many sizes in black.
Just curious why the replacement bolt was so long. Couldn’t they have been like 1/2” long with some sealant on the threads? You’re just capping the hole, correct?
You're so detailed. It's not even annoying. I'd love to buy a vehicle from you. I bet it's so nice
Thank you. Ocd is a problem sometimes

I’m in the same boat and mentioned the same thing to Travis. Driving a 06 Sierra Denali and learned SO much from his videos.
Sounds like a great find.
Glad I could help guys.

Not a bad idea
Travis it most definitely looks better and more streamlined without the roof racks, turned out very nice
Thank you. I do like the new look.
The attention to the most minute detail such as a color matched roof screw, is what brings me back to your videos🤙
Thank you. It's really a problem
Looks good with the rack removed! I keep debating doing same this mod to my '03 Tahoe. As always, great content and fun to watch you go through the basic of updating and fixing your latest daily driver.
Thank you. Can always put it back on
Looks so much better. I removed mine a couple year’s back.
Thank you. I like that clean look
Did the same thing on the rack back in 2008-09 to my wife’s Yukon. I also went to the 03-up truck front grille/bumper after a little fender bender to make it a little different
I helped a friend of mine do it to his and I recommended set screws. We just squeezed some caulk down the holes and threaded the set screws in flush.
That works too
That's what I did on my Trailblazer way back in 2004. Lower profile than a bolt head, less noticeable.
I have a 04. I want my roof rack off. Thank u this was the perfect video 💯
Definitely cleans up the look
Removed mine after watching you take off the Tahoe roof rack looks 10x better 👌 when you dropin it tho 👀
Thank you. Definitely cleaner. Need some other parts so may be a little
Definitely looks a lot cleaner my man. Keep up the great work & appreciate the vids.
Thank you
I guess thats me then

Thank you
I just done this on my 1999 Suburban. I used a paint touch up brush to paint the nutserts before installing the bolts so they blend in better.
That's a good way too

@@TWAMotorsports they might be i don’t see why not, it’s a clean look i do it to everything
👍
How did you push out your rivet nut
@@jameymoore8000 i use a tight drill bit and spin them ussually

HELLO, LOVE YOUR STUFF I HAVE A 04 YUKON. HAVE YOU EVER HAD TROUBLE WITH LEAKS WITHTHIS METHED?
No issues at all
I have an 04 Chevy suburban that needs to have the roof rack deleted so thank you for this video. The reason why I'm deleting the roof rack is because I believe that's where I have a water leak from. As far as I can see all the screws so that would lead me to believe it's from the insert any suggestions
Could be a bad insert
keep an eye out for a leak on the ones that spin, if the rivnut is loose it can leak water
That's true
The easiest way to get rid of the roof racks is to drive up to the edge of a mountain, put a brick on the accelator pedal, and throw it in drive. Those things are garbage
Yukons or roof racks
I’m still looking for a Z71 rack to put on my 05. Yea, once they spin your in for a full day event. I had to remove a lot during re-paints from factory pealing
I have one but don't want to ship it.
@@TWAMotorsports I know, your killing me. Lol 😂
Lol
Thank you I have a 05 Yukon Denali I’m gonna start taking mine off I thought of it this insures it will get done
Such a cleaner look
Glad to see you finally pulled the roof rack. How bout the chrome plastic on the doors? That trim coming off next or are you going to paint it black?
No I am leaving that.
I think you should try the molding method that covers up the holes and blends in with the other body lines going down the roof
I have seen that. Doesn't look bad
You are right, it does look cleaner. Good job!
Thank you. I think so too

Should be m6x1
The Amazon link points to M8x1.@@TWAMotorsports
Looks a lot cleaner without the rack!!! ✌
Thank you. I agree
My gf has an 06 Yukon xl Denali and I drive a 09 Escalade. The roof racks on the Yukon where a bitch to get off at first, so this helped a lot.
Some are a pain.
Another great video!! Did you ever correct the old white z71 Tahoe's roof? I have a spot on mine i need to fix
No really. It had a huge chunk of paint missing
Just curious why the replacement bolt was so long.
Couldn’t they have been like 1/2” long with some sealant on the threads?
You’re just capping the hole, correct?
They could probably. I wanted more threads to help keep water out.
It looks good with the roof rack off. I would also take the side molding off and de-badge it.
Already debadged it. Side molding is staying on though
It looks better. I had the same roof rack on my tahoe almost 2 years ago but I took it off and got a z71 roof rack from the junkyard
Thank you. Cleaner to me
@@TWAMotorsports it does. I wish I could show you tahoe
Send to me email in video description
@@TWAMotorsports I think I sent it but I think I sent 2 by accident. They are a picture of when I first got it to what it looks like now
Yes I got them. Amazing progress

Thank you. Suburban has a few more holes I think.
I like it! Now I want to remove my rack! Lol
Lol. Sorry.
I always go back and forth on my roof rack for my 06 suburban
Me too. Never actually used one but somedays I like the look.
I did mine and it looks better
Definitely a cleaner look
@@TWAMotorsports I love it I wish I had a picture to show u
Amazing job and details
Paint match the OnStar and XM antenna on front. It'll blend some
That probably would help

Thank you
what screw driver would take these out
Torx
Luv your content 🔥🔥, I had go purchase me tahoe..
Thank you. I like those too
Where you buy the screws?
Link in video description I believe
wheres the green sierra at?
On the lift still
I liked it better with the roof rack but just personal preference
Yeah. Some do.
It's a two layer roof. You can't get access from the inside. You would just have to drill it out.
That sucks more. Lol
Agree it does look better
Thank you Daniel
My Yukon looking nice
Thank you
It do give it a clean look
Thank you. I agree
Would be cool if it turned into a performance build 🤔
Don't see that happening honestly
What year is this Yukon?
2004
How dark is the tint?
No idea. Not dark enough
It might look better with the Cadillac Escalade roof racks,at least the chrome side rails…
They are “low-profile”
They do look good but hard to find sometimes
What % tint is that?
No idea. Not dark enough
Looks better on.
Everyone likes something different
looks better bud I like it better without
Me too. Thank you
Looks better without. Cleaner
Thank you Frank. I agree
A lot cleaner look.
Thank you
Delete the antennas too and paint the roof black.
No thank you
clean
Thank you. Getting better
Or throw a Escalade rack up there
Those do look nice
👍🏼
Thank you
Show how to remove,less talk
Filthy dirty?! Uhhh my business is called filthy dirty bin cleaning
Tool much ocd
Probably
teflon paste or thread sealant would seal those threads from rain water, and would be less of a drag on the rivnut
Done that in the past.
Let me buy that rack please, need it for my silverado
Trashed already
I have mine you can have it you pay for shipping I live in Denver co
