The guns could be smaller smoothbores to reduce price at the cost of range, meaning you'd need to designate the other one as "long range" to differentiate it from the less powerful/accurate ones. Or the "short ranged" version could be a dedicated tank destroyer, so it has an artillery caliber gun but it's designed to be fired at close range to directly engage other armored vehicles.
speaking of this fight.... for those of us in the horizon 1/2 franchise!: maybe we can compare how the FAS-BOR7 HORUS class titan unit can move and attack nearly similarly from the inspiration of the already existing Helghan MAWLR here I just realized. though probably be more dangerous than the MAWLR that titan class FARO bot is aside from the MAWLR's giant petrusite arc cannon in long range....
I liked killzone. Sure it was never the Halo competitor that Sony wanted, but it still mashed to be its own thing. Shadow fall was good start to the PS4 life cycle. Sadly with how well Horizon did it might be a while before the next Killzone game graces up with it’s presence
From what I heard/seen, Killzone's biggest weakness was its lore and storytelling, some that Halo was able to make quite efficiently. Hopefully they'll be able to sort out the lore with the next installment.
@@mr-mr-101 The Killzone lore is great. It doesn't have the space opera/action flick theme of Halo, being more of a gritty world-war-in-space type of setting, but its pretty richly detailed and captivating.
I played Shadowfall, it was not what is was cracked up to be. The guns were weak, it pushed you heavily to take a much more stealthy approach because look! You have a bow! It was lacking overall compared to it's predecessors, only being good in the second half of the game, and that’s something you don’t want to happen in an FPS title like Killzone.
Just imagine these things traveling alongside helghast ground troops and vehicles as they invade earth. Just amazing.. May the helghast race and civilization Survive For The Next 100 years.
Its equipment and technology like this that kinda makes you feel that the ISA is kinda incompetent on the Arms R&D, and they pull out wins because their soldiers are badass enough to pull through by the skin of their teeth.
Eh... Sort of. A lot of the stuff they make is very cool but isn't that practical. The MAWLR could probably be replaced with orbital strikes from a spaceship, something both a hell of a lot easier to move around and which probably serves as a troop transport in addition.
The MAWLR is ment as an orbital defense/long range mobile artillary platform and can take a considerable beating even at critical condition. The Helghast navy were busy driving off the ISA's navy to reorder ships to engage ground targets. And even then, by the time you encounter the MAWLR ingame all of the ISA's navy and most of their ground assets has retreated back to Vekta. And we need to keep in mind, only one was brought down and it took Master Chief levels of look for it to happen. It's purely coincidental Sev happened to find a WASP launcher the moment him and Narville's squad ran into that MAWLR. ISA aren't badass, they're just heavily favored by the plot to the point of B movie shooter guy stupidity
Holy shit just by chance I purchased a PS3 for the specific goal of replaying all the Killzone’s in the last week and then you guys put out this. Perfect timing.
It is a shame that the games always protray the ISA as the the good guys and with you playing as them, when really the Helgast were given the rawest of raw deals by the ISA and at least in the first game are the actual good guys trying to liberate their own planet from you. The helgast were perfectly happy on their nice Gaia world and mining helgan as a sovereign state when the ISA attacked and annexed the planet and forcibly relocated the entire population to Helgan which was a toxic world so it was basically a death sentence for many millions of people.

Oddly enough the only 'good guys' in killzone is earth as they literally let their colonies govern themselves as long as the necessary supplies get back to sol. Heck they were actually investigating the issues that cause the first game and vekta not wanting to look bad went beyond the blockade order and full on invaded

The ISA are the good guys entirely by virtue of your character being on their side. All the factions in Killzone's geopolitics are kind of awful in an oddly realistic way.

5:40 that really reminds me of some of the artwork for the 1920+ setting. I don't care which came first, all I care about is that great juxtaposition between peaceful farmland and ginormous walking instruments of death. This is a really nice example of that kind of juxtaposition. edit: 1920+ is the setting used by Scythe and Iron Harvest (though both use the setting independently afaik)

I like how Killzone 3 took place in the cities of Helghan, so you could see how the civilian populace lived in slums and tenement buildings that weren't any better than what you'd find in India today. What things they accomplished by shifting all their money to their military!
The Killzone setting deserves better than the mostly shitty games it's stuck in. Wish there was a Battlefront or RTS style game with ISA and Helghast forces to choose between. Maybe someday.
You can clearly see where they got the inspiration for horizon zero dawn, the corrupter is basically a shrunken down mawler. The various mechs you encounter throughout killzone really shows that they wanted to make a game based around mechs for a long time.
Word of advice, when the Templin Institute beings its trans-dimensional take over. Don't use giant walkers with obvious glowing weak points, as it won't matter how intimidating you make it, 120mm APFSDS will still kill it.
Ideally it never get's close enough for anything to demolish it. It was mainly built to shoot starships out of the sky and unleash long range misile barrages
Mobile artillary you use in the game took multiple rounds just to disable one of the MAWLRs cooling vents and the damn thing still stays operational if you disable both. An abrams or Hell any MBT won't ever get time to shoot since they'll get obliterated by a beam of petrusite from multiple kilometers away. I know you want to sound realistic but you should probably play Killzone 3 first, mate.

The Helghast should be proud that they can say their walkers are bigger than the Imperium's AND theirs's doesn't come with a moody AI that could turn on it's users if they didn't pray to it correctly that day.
I remember and killzone when we had to take this thing down and it was so much of a headache. Like a real actual to destroy this thing first you had to destroy the coolant vents then you had to destroy the guns. Then after all that you had to destroy the big laser gun and still this thing would not go down so. We just ended up blowing up the bridge crew even today going back and playing killzone on my PS3 I really hate this battle. Because it's so much of a headache to get through.

Just to think that with all these advancements, the Helghan navy still gets wiped out in every single combat against the UCA navy when they ultimately get involved. Always hoped that the game would show us a scene of UCA army and navy combating Helghan.

I wish they remake the whole Killzone story(reboot). And if it is possible, please allow the player to customized their own weapons(gun accessories: suppressors, scopes, grip, extended mag, laser, grenade launcher, etc.)/gears(body armored, perks, vanguard like in mercenary), characters/classes(face, gender, skin, logo). Add some vehicles to drive(like the one from Killzone Liberation). Tank, Hovercraft, Buggy, Mech/Exo, Dropship/VTOL, Gunship, APC/IFV, Star/Jet-Fighter both for ISA and Helghast. Also, talking about guns. I expect they redesigned everything. Make it looks more cool(modern) and practical design(that make sense) both for the ISA and Helghast. For example, like last round bolt hold open and slap the bolt release. Have one round in the chambered. Tactical reload. I don't care if the game developing team and art designer go to the shooting range just to record the sound and details of every guns. PS: If I have to choose between ISA or Helghast gun. I still prefer ISA. Why? Because most of ISA small arms(if not everything) are more practical(I prefer conventional design over bullpup) use than helical magazine design from the Helghast. My favorite gun for the ISA: M82 Assault Rifle, LS57 SMG, LS13 Shotgun, LS18 Shredder Automatic Shotgun, M42 Anti Material Rifle, M66 Machine Pistol, M327 Grenade Launcher. The only Helghast weapons that I like the most would be STA3(MG42), STA14(M14/FAL), STA-2(HK69/79) Grenade Pistol, VC32 Sniper Rifle, VC39 Accelerator Rifle, WASP Launcher, StA62 Minigun, VC8 Shotgun Pistol.
I notice that the color scheme for the Arsenal intro and outro is very reminiscent of Helghast color designs on their computers. Is that coincidence or on purpose?
It's a shame Sony doesn't give a shit about this series. It could of been as big as Halo. Killzone Shadowfall was the most successful game financially.
Giant walking long range artillery is great... but why is is right next to the front line? Shouldn't it be behind the battle, like a proper artillery? Otherwise it is just fire support.
I just finished a four hour breakdown of the Killzone franchise (from the developer standpoint, plus a breakdown of the stories) a few days ago... this seems like fate. They should have just let this be its own thing. Sony was not very wise in trying to make this the "Halo Killer." It is a different kind of shooter (at least the first three, the last one was more of a standard one in how the physics worked.).
Helghast Presenter: "This massive walker can reduce entire platoons and starships to rubble."
Helghast General: *"I'LL TAKE YOUR ENTIRE STOCK!"*

The shock I experienced is compared to shock from learning that mole crickets can FLY.

My favorite gun for the ISA: M82 Assault Rifle, LS57 SMG, LS13 Shotgun, LS18 Shredder Automatic Shotgun, M42 Anti Material Rifle, M66 Machine Pistol, M327 Grenade Launcher. The only Helghast weapons that I like the most would be STA3(MG42), STA14(M14/FAL), STA-2(HK69/79) Grenade Pistol, VC32 Sniper Rifle, VC39 Accelerator Rifle, WASP Launcher, StA62 Minigun, VC8 Shotgun Pistol.

I notice that the color scheme for the Arsenal intro and outro is very reminiscent of Helghast color designs on their computers. Is that coincidence or on purpose?
It's a shame Sony doesn't give a shit about this series. It could of been as big as Halo. Killzone Shadowfall was the most successful game financially.

This thing makes imperium's titans look like children's toys. Even the biggest titan is like 200 meters shorter than this walker.
Regardless of height difference, just the logistics of its armor and armament makes it something scarier than an Imperial Titan.

Giant walking long range artillery is great... but why is is right next to the front line? Shouldn't it be behind the battle, like a proper artillery? Otherwise it is just fire support.
I just finished a four hour breakdown of the Killzone franchise (from the developer standpoint, plus a breakdown of the stories) a few days ago... this seems like fate.
They should have just let this be its own thing. Sony was not very wise in trying to make this the "Halo Killer." It is a different kind of shooter (at least the first three, the last one was more of a standard one in how the physics worked.).
