I will forever love that you just made a whole episode dedicated to Goku and Chi-Chi’s sex life. Also I can’t believe Grandpa Gohan is just haunting their house. That is perfect.
Gohan is there because he wants to make sure his adopted son is having the best life he can. He throws the book because, even after more than a decade, he doesn't understand that saiyans like a woman who can -and will- be aggressive with them.
I believe the reason he didn’t want 17 and 18 to wake up 16 is cause…he was scared of loosing the only thing that reminds him of his son….the only bits that are left…those memories
@someone8193 huh, actually with the fact that 17 & 18 were required for cell to reach perfect form. The lack of energy sensing in them actually makes sense
To me, the Android 16 / Gero's son message is where DBZA most noticeably goes beyond beeing a parody. It becomes an extension and enrichment to the original story. I love this scene.
@@adams3560The entire series is a parody. You can add or remove whatever you want in a parody adaption. The "abridged" concept is just the framework the parody works with. There is no law of fiction that says abridged adaptions must only contain cut down original material and nothing else.
@@pacmonster066The word abridge means to shorten. Adding new content would be lengthening. Of course the dialogue is also changed, because it is both an abridgment and a parody. When I read the words abridged parody I think “ok, short version with jokes.” Not “short version with jokes and then stuff added.”
"Their sex organ is their mouth~" - Lanipator 2023 Lani has managed to single-handedly ruin Namekians, one of my favorite alien races and one of my favorite characters, in a single sentence...
Cell is so well written. He always goes with the flubs because he completely comprehends that all other beings are imperfect - and as THE perfect being - he rolls with it to emphasize that point. Genius.
So wait, does that mean since Dende is Guru's grandchild... do ALL the Namekians have the capability to act like Guru after they're potential is unlocked?
the best part of this is how close it is to the dub. Goku does just pop into the lab and Bulma doesn't even jump. She is just like "Oh you can just pop in and out of places now. Neat!"
Didn’t Bulma learn that Goku can do that shortly after he returns to Earth from Yardrat? It’s not new information to her, so it’s not unexpected that he’d just be able to pop in.
@@BlusterTheBenevolent yeah but even knowing someone can literally appear next to you at any time doesn't mentally prepare you for when they actually do it. There has to be a very high level of trust for Goku to just appear out of nowhere and Bulma not even act surprised
Headcanon: When Gero was working on the androids, trying to make them function, having to scrap ideas and whole models because they were flawed, and hitting brick wall after brick wall before he got something that worked, I imagine he would bring up and play his son's last message to remind himself of what he'd lost and why he was doing this. And probably break down crying right after. Pretty heavy stuff for a parody show, and I love it.
The hidden message from Gero’s son is a masterful piece of writing, partly because it’s so simple yet it hits sooo hard, my first watch I actually had to pause because it was such an emotional moment, especially as it’s dropped into the Slice Of Life episode which just amplifies the emotion of it all. Throw in the soft music and this is just perfection. I don’t care it’s essentially fan faction, I happily adopt it to my head canon.
T4S handle Cell so well: he’s ALMOST likeable the way he bounces off others and talks, but then you have moments where you’re reminded that this guy is not a genius, he’s an EVIL genius.
This episode is like the “Ember Island Players” episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Everybody is taking the day off from the big impending threat to relax, take care of chores and side preparations, and reflect on how we all got here.
This episode has so many good “million dollar lines” as Taka puts it, but one that I think people sleep on is: “Well when dad gets out of the Time Machine he’ll probably want to take a swing at you.” “I knew it!” I just love the idea that Goku has wondered if Vegeta is a swinger. Man has room for only two things in his brain: food and fighting. But somewhere, in some corner, he’s wondered if Vegeta swings XD
I THINK the actual intention of the joke was more just Vegeta being in love with Goku, since Goku is escaping from someone hitting on him. Thus he interprets Gohan's comment as "Vegeta wants to bone you". I never thought of this specifically being a swinger joke
LMAO, the beginning talk about sex was SPOT-ON! Also, I agree, the fan-head-cannon of Goku inadvertently blowing up Gero's son as a kid is the best way to explain Gero's building android to kill Goku obsession. That SHOULD be canon IMHO.
I'm trying to recall the source, but apparently Android 13 was also one of Gero's sons and worked as a gunrunner for the RR, then later volunteered for the Android program. Given he isn't a main canon character, so it doesnt matter too much.
"Inadvertently"? Goku was attacking the Red Ribbon Army HQ and Gero's son Gevo was a soldier in the Red Ribbon Army. Are you telling me Goku only wanted to destroy the buildings and not kill anyone or what?
@@faceoctopus4571 No, in advertently as in, he was firing a Kamehameha at some helicopters but a building tower was in the way so he blasted through it. Inadvertently means he didn't know anybody was in the tower. He didn't know anyone was in in the tower as his attack was intended for the helicopters.
I personally think that video you guys made of Dr. Gero's son was your magnum opus of the series. Maybe not the best you've done with DBZA, but it was practically the culmination and perfection of everything you've all learned and mastered since the beginning. Bravo, TeamFourStar.
@@Juju2927Nah, the show didn't need to have Goku kill Gero's son to have Gero hate Goku, defeating the Red Ribbon army was enough. Not to mention when they first meet Android Gero, Gero just doesn't instantly try to kill Goku because he would if Goku had killed his son. Instead he sends Android 19 which kind of makes Goku killing Gero's son pointless if it was meant to add more reasons for Gero to kill Goku. This is one of the times where TFS's fanfiction doesn't add anything to the story.
@@okagronthe man probably got brain damage putting his brain in an android, created multiple androids that are meant to kill Goku, and was killed by his own creations. I feel when gero became an android he just had a program that says "Kill Goku....." and doesn't tell him why. As much as it is Fan Fiction it's not that far fetched especially if you look at the Fighterz story line
Years from now this take on 16 and Gero's backstory will be assumed to be canon by most DB fans and nobody will think to question it. That's how good it is.
@@tobiogunyemi7631 I'm with them (TFS) on that one. I guess Toriyama and the rest just didn't want that blood on Goku's hand. It's one thing for nameless villain mooks to potentially die offscreen, it's another to have the blood of a named, character and it be the mastermind villain's son no less, even if father and son were far from innocent.
@@nousername191Its kinda more poetic that way. In the main canon, Gevo was as much dedicated to the RR army as Gero, if not more. He was more violent than 16, and he died for the beliefs of the Army. Then Goku shows up and destroy the whole thing that he died for. Gero wanna kill Goku, bc he not only annihiliated the army, but also his son will, and what remained of him (this is why he created 16). This explanation is good for canon, bc it's dosent change Gero's motivation, but adds much more layer to the reason why he was so dedicated to the RR plans while the tfs verson have a more direct impact, shows Goku's actions in a different light, and much more suitable for a scene that shows these events.
Now that Gero modeling 16 after his deceased son is canon, I'm betting a lot people are already assuming that. I doubt most people will actually look up how Gevo really died.
Goku: "Master Roshi. I need your training again" Roshi: "I think you're a bit above my skill level. What kind of training are you expecting?" Goku: "Chi Chi keeps trying to do some weird things in the bedroom, and I can't keep up." Roshi: "My boy. It's an honor to once again call you my pupil."
I could not stop thinking that. It's such a beautiful 90's ass look. He's dressed like a football dad and somehow that look is entirely in character for someone like Goku.
Honestly the Android 16 origin fan fiction is one of my favorite parts of rewatching this series because it always feels like such a huge emotional whiplash and is so well voice acted, props to everyone involved in making that.
I never heard that "boo" before today and never would have if Lani hadn't pointed it out here. These commentaries just enhance the replay value of the show.
OMG that WAS you!! I was watching Wrestlemania 32 and saw the sign and immediately was like "TEAM FOUR STAR!" but I always just assumed it was some random fan who just loved the DBZ Abridged videos as much as I do. That is freaking awesome!
So fun fact, the leading theory is that since King Piccolo and Kami were dragon-clan, they could only get so powerful. And when Goku beat KP, he specifically created Jr as a Warrior-clan so that he'd have the strength to beat this new powerful Goku for revenge. That's why Piccolo Jr never had the ability to create minions like his father could, and all the rest; it was a clan shift.
The episode really justifies Dende being snarky, especially when you consider the face that Goku never even met Dende before and literally kidnapped a completed stranger.
As much as it's played for humour, I have always been 100% with the guys on the "sex makes babies" scene. Goku learns something life-changing and his immediate instinct is to share it with his first friend. Like, I have to assume this is a regular occurrence between the two of them, and that is adorable.
@@almarc86 From a writing standpoint it is, but I saw too many plotlines that I got sick from it, and seeing Toriyama's "For destroying the RRA" was a refreshment. But gotta agree with y'all, it is a god damn good reason to fucking hate Goku
Trunks catching Frieza's ball and the lion king playing on my friends phone was my first introduction to TFS, it was release day, its been a wild ride.
I like to think the reason Goku finds Dende at all in this episode, of all the Namekians he could have kidnapped, is because Dende is the only one who had his potential unleashed by Super Kami Guru, so he would've been the strongest and easiest one to find out of all the Namekians.
"Just talk to him" "He's just as bad as you are" Is such relatable bit of this episode for me...The amount of awkward conversations... Kaiser nearly doing a spittake on that mouth comment was hilarious

Vegeta never tried to stay a Super Saiyan because Goku did it first, and he didn’t want to be seen as copying someone who he wanted to surpass. Dude’s too proud at this point
@@ihavenonamestilldonthaveon8970He’s not wrong, for a few reasons: First, the form takes a lot of ki to maintain, far more than the previous 2 did. To be fair, we never saw someone master it, so we don’t know what it would take to actually do so. Second, that long hair would be a big disadvantage in fighting up close, opponents could easily grab it and then yank the fighter around by it, and for all of Vegeta’s flaws, he’s a surprisingly good tactician in battle, at least when his ego doesn’t get in the way
21:55 This is canon to me, and no one can convince me otherwise. After I saw this episode for the first time, I rewatched the episode when Goku invades the Red Ribbon compound, and there is a point where Goku fires a Kamehameha into a building. I’m confident that’s when it happened!
The 16 video file is my favorite moment from all of dbza. I just love adding to the lore and just having it make so much sense. Amazing work to those animators.
@@adams3560 By what basis? Worse off parodies like Yugioh that add nothing else? This, if anything, sets a better standard in writing quality that I'd love to see in more abridged series'.
Honestly this episode might be my personal favorite. Between the Cell cutaway gag, the sex joke filled main plot, and your addition of Gevo's death scene, this is one I always come back to, even outside of rewatches.
I remember watching this when I was younger and not knowing what Goku meant by "back door" On a second rewatch of DBZA a few years later, I was laughing SO HARD OMG
38:35 they have a great interaction in Super where Bulma tries to angry gag punch him but he dodges cause he’s watching out for Hit and she’s all “why did you dodge that” and I love the explanation that he lets her hit him and probably pretends to be hurt too
I love that added scene of 16 and Gero's son Gevo. That scene could be in the official anime and would only add more value not just to 16, but to Gero as well.
I find the Mr. Satan with the "Hail Satan" chants especially funny because one of the top heels in pro-wrestling right now, refers to himself as the Devil, and sometimes calls his fans devil-worshippers... when he isn't calling them 'his poors'.

It's without a doubt my favourite edition to Season 3 of DBZA. It's no wonder that this is a top rated episode for many.
One other thing I like is that drone playing in the background getting louder and louder until you start hearing the alarm
He also wasn't finished honestly, which makes it even worse because he didn't even get to fully reconstruct his son.

To me, the Android 16 / Gero's son message is where DBZA most noticeably goes beyond beeing a parody. It becomes an extension and enrichment to the original story. I love this scene.
It's by far exhibit A of DBZA being equal parts parody and passion project.
I like it, but you can’t really call it Abridged at that point. Abridged versions are supposed to shorten a series, not add things.
@@adams3560By that logic, every joke or gag that wasn't from the original show (aka the things many people love the most) shouldn't be there
@@adams3560The entire series is a parody. You can add or remove whatever you want in a parody adaption. The "abridged" concept is just the framework the parody works with. There is no law of fiction that says abridged adaptions must only contain cut down original material and nothing else.

It should be noted that goku fought androids in dragon ball.
But it's clear Gero had been making Androids all the way up until he and 19 were ready.
He wouldn't cry. The anger would motivate him.

This episode has so many good “million dollar lines” as Taka puts it, but one that I think people sleep on is:
“Well when dad gets out of the Time Machine he’ll probably want to take a swing at you.”
“I knew it!”
I just love the idea that Goku has wondered if Vegeta is a swinger.
I never thought of this specifically being a swinger joke
in whatever amount of thought he had, vegeta's hate boner looked more like an actual boner to goku

Bravo, TeamFourStar.
When what basically is a headcanon in a parody has a better, WAY better backstory than the Canon that people decide to ignore the latter.

As much as it is Fan Fiction it's not that far fetched especially if you look at the Fighterz story line
Years from now this take on 16 and Gero's backstory will be assumed to be canon by most DB fans and nobody will think to question it. That's how good it is.
Up until now I thought it WAS canon! I didn’t know Toriyama had said Gevo died from a gunshot.
Like they said in here, it's kind of insane that it's not canon
