    Well done. Yes, 8000 is after 20 years still very good. I upgrade to the 18 a few weeks ago and there is a difference. The high notes are a little sharper and more clear. In compare with the beolab 3 the where the high notes are a little warmer. I did use the 8000 with the 2 and 3 together for a long time now and recently have the same setup with the 18. I love it. The upgrade is fine but not needed. Still love my 8000 that I still have.

    You actually summatized it in one sentence - You listen to a BL18 once and the BL8000 becomes a regular speaker. Although the iconic speakers of the 20th century still have a special place in my house, my BL18s are just immaculate and are the actual centerpoint of the house. @@soundsheavenly I was watching this video when trying to make up my mind between the 8000 and the 18. The 8000 can be found for ~£500 whereas the 18 is much rarer and still goes for close to its rrp of £4000. Given that would you say that the 8000 remained the sensible choice?

      @@williamsmith9579 Whilst each person will have their own views on prices, I personally feel that the difference between these speakers are reasonably small. I have owned both Beolab 8000 and 18, but I have kept my 8000s after the 18s were sold. This is because I feel that they give a great sound for a very reasonable cost. Beolab 18 is certainly a better speaker, but is it 8x better than Beolab 8000?

    A few years back I owned a pair of 8000’s and indeed the bass was really light, so light in fact that I had to add a subwoofer. For example I am a Yes fan and I couldn’t hear Chris Squires bass pedal work at all pre sub.

    one of my concerns with many speakers is the performance at low volume, including the 8000 I own, is you lose the treble. cymbals in particular disappear completely. when you go to dealers you won't notice this as the volume is up, back home when you need to crank it down. As the 18's all have individual amps for each speaker I would expect a tweeter boost at low volume. did you notice this Steve? I love the 50's but will never be able to afford them, 18's are a possibility.

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the 8000s do sound a little muffled at low volumes, this seems to be a common issue with other B&O speakers of the same era. I suspect that this is due to the "ABL" (bass management) circuit in the speakers, which gives a boost to the bass at low volumes to make the sound appear deeper. Older speakers like Pentas didn't have this issue. I always suggest asking for the remote control when listening to speakers in store, don't be afraid to turn the volume up or down to your preferred level (although the store may object if you wish to listen too loudly!)

      Peter Waugh I find this as well, i find this to be less of a problem with the smaller drivers in the 6000’s and the front of the 7.x, i have the 7.1 in the centre of my music room and i absolutely love it, i recommend them to accompany any pair, i also have 6000s to compliment the 3’s as rare speakers.
      If you go through the whole range i found that the bigger speakers lacked a small bit of what the smaller ones give, so i just used both and for me it works, i just like to play around with them.

The RCA cable is fine (delivered a signal to the other speaker). The switch is correctly set to 'line'. I was listening to the system very loud the other day, which has me wondering if there's a fuse in there... I've taken the speaker apart, but I don't see any fuses (of the sort I'm familiar with... the type that is held in place in a little clip, and the fuse is a glass tube with a wire in it). Perhaps there's a type of fuse I don't recognize? If it is a fuse, how do I access it and what does it look like? Thanks very much! James

    Hi Steve, thanks for your lovely channel and your commitment to quality music listening. I'm considering buying the Beolab 18s for our smallish family living room for a music setup. I have a turntable with preamplication, but I am looking for the most wireless or minimalist possible option for an effective setup. Would the Beolab 8s on the Mozart system be a better choice or is there a way to set up the Beolab 18s with minimal wiring, through let's say the Bluenote Nord or an equivalent streamer, I'm trying to avoid the traditional hi-fi route by having to wire both speakers to a central hub of some sort, or is this unavoidable with this product (and the fact I have a turntable) any cabling wisdom you might have from your website would be much appreciated and many thanks again.

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for your kind words! The only way to avoid wiring each speaker to a central point is to use a Beolab Receiver 1 on each speaker, plus a Beolab Transmitter 1 linked to the music source. You will also need a device with a volume control linked between the turntable pre-amp and the speakers to control the volume.

    • @TomDonald
      @TomDonald หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@soundsheavenly Thanks so much for your help there Steve, that clears it up. What I don't understand about this product (the 18s) is why B&O bills this product as a wireless speaker. It's really no different to setting up wireless on any legacy B&O product. It would have saved me lots of confusion if they had just written on their site, "Classic wired active speaker, but can be extended to wireless with a few other products". It just would be a more honest approach. Am I missing anything here?

    • @TomDonald
      @TomDonald 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @soundsheavenly that's useful to know. Is there a way to activate the WISA features on the speakers without a TV. Is there some equivalent device that could do that? Do the speakers still need two recievers plugged into the speakers, when paired with a B&O TV? Having to get four devices including two recievers seems like a lot of hassle for a wireless speaker. It seems strange because when you visit the B&O site there is a big focus on how this is an elegant wireless product. It's certainly a beautiful speaker but it's functionality doesn't seem that different from a vintage B&O speaker. I don't know if I'm missing anything here.

      The Beolab 2 subwoofer is bigger than the 8000, 3, 18, 17 etc. Enormous power and frequency range in the lower notes. The 18 can not go so low as the 2 because the woofers are very small. But the sound pressure from the 18 ánd 8000 is higher than the 3. For total sound pressure the 3 is not going that loud like the others ( 3 = 94dB stereo and 8000 = 99 dB stereo, so 5 dB higher sound pressure.

    Hello. Just to share my experience of using a BEOLAB 2 + Beolab 8000 (or Beolab 6000 or Beolab 3) with a DSP (almost mandatory...), the improvement is very strong. The Beolab 2 filter picks up everything below 120 hz which frees up the Bass/Medium speakers of the beolab 8000 allowing them not to be polluted by the bass and to play much more beautiful mids. The only problem is the extraordinary performance of Beolab 2 which needs to be managed. Moreover, many people describe the Belolab 2 as "too slow" for music but excellent for home cinema. From the installation of a DSP it appears that the Beolab 2 is by far the best subwoofer produced by BO. In my room there were a lot of standing waves (around 180 HZ) which made listening to certain musical tracks "slobbery" with invasive bass. The addition of a miniDSP + Dirac Live 3 has completely removed this heaviness to obtain fast and clean bass, making beolab 2 a formidable and very precise subwoofer with great but controlled force. Coming from the world of traditional HIFI (high-end amp + all the rest of the chain at the same level for more than 20K€, the result is very surprising. Of course I pushed the logic to the limit by using an EAR868 preamp (English) connected to Beolab 2 with Steeve's excellent cables + tigger, all powered by a SOTEM Streamer + linear power supply for the streamer and the miniDSP Studio connected via USB to a Chord Qtest DAC, all with electrical filtering. result proves that "old loudspeakers" come back to life when they are properly fed with quality digital sources and good equipment (Qobuz).
    Sorry for my broken English (I'm French) but to conclude, beolab 2 + Mini DSP Studio + what you want in B&O can only strongly improve the qualitative result.
    Try it with Beolab 18 to improve the treble (I find that Beolab 3 is very good in treble, but the distribution of the mids is less "spatial" than with the BO 8000s, which should be corrected with the BL18s.
