    Thank you so much for sharing! I picked up a set of looms at a thrift store, with NO INSTRUCTIONS! Now, everyone remembers spool knitting as a kid, but your tutes are so much more sophisticated and yet still simple to follow. Currently finishing the shawl; this hat is next!

    I bought some blooms for my little sisters from the thrift shop. We spent a good amount of time looking for a video tutorial and we loved yours the most. She made her first hat and has been so proud of it, that is all thanks to you. So thank you for your great video

      Oh thank you so much, ask for crochet hooks most charity shops have some even if the in the back of the shop. I started with the looms then got crochet hooks from my charity shop for 50p each. Start with hook sizes 4.5mm 5mm 5,5mm 6mm and 6,5 they should do most things. Then get her on my channel and makes some blankets. My tutorials are easy to follow along to and she might even make some pocket money selling them once she has made the blanket.

    I made this pattern on a 9.5 x 2.5 rectangle loom, the pegs were too close together for an ea. peg wrap so I improvised and wrapped every 2 together and this worked well. I finished last night, took a few days as I had too many projects on my plate for Christmas. Thank u for this pattern. It came out beautiful and I'm giving this to my granddaughter for Christmas, beginning another for daughter tooo :) Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤ 😊

    Tried this twice now, once with bulky yarn and once with thinner yarn & both were way too big and loose on the 41 peg loom. Just wanted to let anyone with a smaller head know they should probably go with a 36 peg loom. May try it a 3rd time on the 36 loom because it really is a pretty hat & pretty easy, even though it took me way longer than an hour to even complete the brim section, let alone the whole hat.

      Scarf... Check out the reply from Allison in the Tina Buckner comment made above. She explains how to do a scarf with stitches like the hat.

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
      @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do a scarf by NOT joining the stitches on the ring. Work from right to left then work back you will have a long flat panel once you cast it off the ring. You can do blankets the same way.

  • @josettekey3533

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel

      I didn't do one but just do about 8 inches around the loom and you will have enough for a scarf.

      do the scarf same as the hat but dont do the rim. I cast on 20 pegs and knitted the same stitich as the hat until it reached the length I wanted I cast it off and added a fringe

    I hope you get my question, after completing the rib of the hat and starting the section of wrapping 2 consecutive wraps would the stitch be the same as going completely around twice instead of individually

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
      @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Laura. In answer to your question, it will still be the same I often wrap the whole circle then go back and do the knitting rather than individual wrap and knit each stitch.

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
      @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      for a quick pom pom I wind a lot of wool around my hand until I'm happy with the amount. I slip it off my hand and tie it as tight as I can in the middle then cut the loops give it a good shake and trim it. Super fast way to make one pom pom.

    Hi Alison, I know it's been a while, but do you know the circumference at the brim of the hat? I like the open weave of the body of the hat and plan to use your technique on a sightly lighter yarn to make it cooler for Australian winters. Thank you so much for the lesson.

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
      @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I don't and it also depends on the person making it if they weave tight or slack. Margaret I never knew Australia had winters cold enough to were a woolie hat.. You learn something new every day ha ha ha

  • @MoonElfGamer
    @MoonElfGamer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello. Love your videos and I made this and it is great, thank you. I tried to make a scarf to match but it looks different. I didn't want a shawl (not yet) like the one you said has the same stitch. Anyway, the scarf I am making uses 18 pegs and I go back and forth and I was wondering if I should do a different stitch to go back to make it look like this hat.

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
      @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The hat looks different because it is done around, where the scarf is not. The easiest solution is to use a small round loom and make your scarf as a long tube. It will go flat once you have finished. I hope this helps.

    • @MoonElfGamer
      @MoonElfGamer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I realised why they would look different but didn't now what to do about that so a big thank you. I will try it that way :)

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
      @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have made a few tube scarves and they are lovely and warm just add a big pom pom or fringes to the ends or even make it long enough to fold ove the ends to stuff your hands in like pockets to keep them warm.

    Great tutorial!!! I would love to try your slouchy hat. Please correct me if I am wrong, your first 30 rows are for the brim. Then you do an additional 30 rows for the body. Total of 60 rows? Thank you in advance for any replies :)

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
      @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, you fold the first 30 rows over to make the brim then knit for as long as you want your slouchy hat to be some like them longer than I have done. Thank you for watching

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel

      Id knit until I was happy or say about 20 then double it over. A lot of the projects I do I like to make them so people can adjust them to there liking so a lot of the time I say knit until you are happy with it. As some people have smaller or bigger heads xx

    I love ❤️ your video. It’s so easy to follow. I will try to make a hat soon! What type of yarn is this? What is it called? The yarn looks so soft.

      Thank you for responding so quickly. I’m going to try this hat today. I’m going to use the Sweet Roll yarn for my first try. The yarn looks like a cinnamon bun. But with 5 colors of yarn swirled together.😊😊

    How much yarn for a child's hat yarn should I use? I have 34 pegs.
    Thanks lil

      about 100g or just weave until you are happy thats what I do. If you have another hat to get the length of it that will help. But as always you get diffrent results with diffrent wool

      I'm in the UK this was just a few old balls of chunky knit I was given. I don't know what the equivalent of chunky knit yarn in US will be sorry

  • @gildafriedman2559

    Now how did you do all that in one hour?

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
      @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The more you use this the quicker you get. This is a FAST way to knit as the stitches are spaced out and the pegs are quite chunky (equivalent to around a size 6 or 7mm knitting needle) Te thicker the yarn the faster it knits up.

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
      @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes anyone if your yarn is thin just use two strands to make it thicker.

    • @mistylawrence6944

      Alison Russell's Craft Channel I'm a beginner with this and don't know how much yarn I need for this if I'm going to use 2 strands of yarn

    Did you really make the hat in one hour ? Boy I'm feelin slow as hell

    • @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel
      @AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, Linda I do. You will get faster. Don't make your winding too tight and you will get the stitch up and over easier and you will get faster the more you use the looms. I use a rubber silicone handled hook as I find the ones that come with the looms poor quality.
