You fitted air ride to a car for me a few years back, having seen some your work and followed ur builds on Facebook, this is exactly what you should be doing, subscribed, looking forward to seeing this grow.
Thanks, I’m going to give it a go anyway. I don’t really expect the channel to be that successful but it will make doing the projects more interesting…. it seems to anyway.
I love this Build. I'm glad I looked back through your videos, coz somehow I missed this one. I had been wondering when the original mating happened...well here it is 😂
People like you amaze me with your vision and skillset, I could never do this, I've subscribed to your channel and am really looking forward to seeing the end product!.
I think as youl probably find out from watching that there will be many men out there with metalwork skills better than mine, but il get the job done…. Hopefully
Wow , if you youd have told me before I started watching this video that a metro-boxster body swap would be as close as it is. I would never had believed it. The rear 2/3 line up better than I was expecting to see. The driver compartment (dash area etc) are pretty close to where the metro firewall would be. And the rear wheels are pretty close to. I've instantly subbed this build is fascinating. Cant wait to see how it turns out. Best of luck with the build I look forward to watching it.
Thanks, I don’t know that I’d say it lined up that well down either side but I think it is workable, which is hopefully good enough, I’m in this far il have to make it work
@@pedenconceptz I appreciate it's not finalized and there are several thousand hurdles to make it all work but I was just impressed at how well the engine position matched to the rear and the drivers area didnt look to far out. If you was to park a metro and boxster next each other pre disassembly to my eye the dimensions look comically off but once both are down to the barest of components it's not terrible. I'm intrigued to see how tackle the wiring because theres alot of Porsche that isn't there anymore lol.
It’s actually all still working. Running driving. I have a light on the dash for the spoiler, and air bags, but a bulb removed and some resistors off eBay and that should be fixed. If I can il keep the dash and steering airbags, if I can figure out if the method of triggering is unaffected. Il trim very little of it down.
I had never driven a boxster until I got this and it really surprised me, it’s very composed, I think with some minor suspension modifications, the average man could get it from point to point, down a b road faster than the real thing (clubman spec car), just because it’s a more user friendly
💯👍 great entertainment, i wish you all the best with this, matt green tried it with a subaru haha. Ive just finished putting a v8 4.0ltr rs6 motor into a golf 18 plate gtd and the drivers seat is almost where the bench seat was 😂 i space framed mine, i suggest you do same best of luck 👍
It looks like he’s going to have another go at it with the v6 out of the mini… well I assume that’s where he’s talking about going with it. Yea, a space frame would have been another option. But then your starting from scratch, you have to work out every part of it, figure out a place for everything. It would have been easier early on, but I think keeping this as a running driving car will help motivation later on. Plus I’m very impressed with the boxster chassis, clearly galvanised etc.
looking at the dooropening i wonder if you can graft the porche bottom part of the doorsill intoo the metro top , would mean cutting up the porche doors too and fit the bottom parts of those intoo the metro doors inner sheetmetal to get them to shut over everything
There’s an engineering shop close to me, that can fold sheet steel from new material, just means I can have the sections made in one piece rather than jointing sections. Il do this with the sills doors and pillars, and then fabricate the corners myself
I would've cut out the stamping for the back hatch and windshield then split the shell down the middle. Then its much easier to deal with, replace the roof panel and fill in the small gaps either side of the back hatch and windshield stampings
The metro 6r4 with the bodykit fitted is 4 inches wider than a boxster. If I widen the shell. The whole thing would be even wider again. If you want to avoid modifying the door shuts you’d need to widen it by 6”…. The end result would be a car that was 10”, yes 10” wider than a boxster!!! You’d also have 4” or 5” wide window pillars. I can see why you think this would work but when your standing beside it, it’s a different story.
Just subbed. Please don't take this as a criticism, but i would have used the porsche as a donor and made my own chassis. Seems a lot less work in the long run with more structural integrity than chopping so much out of the Porsche chassis. Will be interesting to see how this progresses .
The only area affected is the Pilar, and that supports the window frame on the boxster, this is going to be replaced by a new Pilar and I intend to have an internal roll cage, or a roll cage at the very least. In my opinion this chassis is far superior something I could design myself, and all the strength is in the bottom 12” of it. If I built a separate chassis, it have to strip the car entirely, months or years of parts lying in the corner and a lump of box section that looks like a metro in the other, decisions over trying to fit every part. Everyone has a different opinion but what I want is a nicely finished road car, I want the fit and finish of a porsche and the looks of a metro, not a race car that has a porsche engine. And no offence taken whatsoever, I value your opinion.
Most 6R4 replica attempts look wrong because the wheelbase differs by 16cm between 6R4s and normal metros. You might have mentioned this but I missed it if you did.
Presumably the 6R4 had the rear wheels moved back to win a bit of extra wheelbase...fairly normal trick. The dinky Metro body does make the skateboard look big! Fair play, keep on chopping!
I don’t know if they are as short as 94.1, I’ve seen approx 94.5 and 95, and this boxster is 95, so hoping the kit puts it in the ballpark. But that’s part of the problem, you ask about the wheelbase or a dimension and you get different answers from each person building one.
Part of the issue might be the differing wheelbases of various versions of the Metro. You’re working with a K-series engined Rover Metro, whereas the starting point for genuine 6R4s was the earlier type of A-series engined Metro. Everything forward of the windscreen on the K-series models was re-engineered as the Metro went from gearbox in sump layout to an end-on gearbox. Austin Rover took the opportunity to lengthen the Metro slightly at the front at that point for packaging/styling reasons. Thus shoving the front wheels slightly forward and lengthening the wheelbase a touch. It’s something to bear in mind in terms of your ‘90s Metro shell compared to those used for 6R4s in the mid ‘80s. All that said, the Metro shell is to all intents and purposes the same from the A-pillar back, no matter which model you started with. Great project. Can’t wait for the next video.
I’m actually nearly sure all of those have been done before, there’s videos on TH-cam of them. A guy Matt green has done a Subaru anyway and I think I’ve seen the others. But I just wanted the 6 cylinder engine note and the engine in the back, plus the boxster is a great road car
I think that’s already been done, well, they used an Audi tt i think which is much the same, but I really wanted the engine in the back and 6 cylinders, like the real thing
Did you not think about sectioning the metro body shell down the centre and adding a few inches to the width. The roof might have been a challenge other than using new sheet steel but life might well have been easier
The question that been on my mind for some time is, is it possible to have a transaxle, ie mid engine Métro, and it looks to tight to me? Unless anyone can say otherwise? Obviously 4 cylinder boxer engine but was thinking more straight 4 or v8? Great project mate
I don’t know about 4 cylinder but I’m sure it has been done, I’ve seen a genuine 6r4 advertised as having a v8, transaxle, and rwd, someone posted up a list of old adverts on a Facebook group the other day.
@@pedenconceptz I remember seeing and 8r2 at the Bournemouth Rally in the 80’s but not sure of the drive system. It had a Hart derived f1 engine. I would like to build a v8 one, using a transaxle, but not sure if it would fit behind the seats?
I think I'd not be too worried about cutting strength out of the Porsche. You are putting a roof on the car after all, which has to be a help with rigidity as well as a cage. Though I'm not a fan a cages in road cars. It strikes me as a dangerous, especially in a small car, where it's likely to hit you in the head.
I’ve already had this debate with myself over my last escort build. And came to the conclusion that with the car folded round me it wouldn’t matter what hit my head. But one thing is I have found very nice padding for it, secondly in a metro 6r4 (genuine) the cage goes inside the pillars. And I’ve seen one rolled without a cage and it was not good. Plenty of strength in this chassis but I’d like to put more in the roof, the pillars are very very very tiny
@@pedenconceptz fair enough. I'm pretty sure you've put way more thought into this than I have, after just watching the videos. Interesting project in any case and a great idea.

Do you just keep the Porsche registration , no IVA to go through ?
A lot of mod to original car there
I covered this in the first video, but yes I intend to build it to iva specification so it’s ready if needed.
Trying to fit a square peg into a round hole has never been so entertaining! 🤣
I can see why you chose the Boxster layout as it puts the rear engine in just about the right place between the wheels. Is it a 2.7 2.9 or 3.2 ?
It’s a 2.7, but the reasoning for this is covered in the first video, the gearbox is shorter.
If you are going to lower it, do it now so that you know what you're dealing with. It's going to be fantastic.
Well, il probably cut the springs at some stage to eye it up. I have a feeling that the final spring rate will need to be different to account for the lower weight, so only so much I can do at this point.
Wasn't the 6r4 slightly longer than the standard metro ?
Yea approx same as the boxster
Do you intend to build it as a road going car, or will it be strictly for unregistered track and show work?
It’s a road car, I covered this area in the first video if you want to watch that.
Great progress! We're you inspired to mash these two together or is this a tried and tested route?
It covers that in the first episode, but really it was just an organic process of one idea leading to the next
Didn't the 6R4 have the jaguar XJ220 Engine?
Your right I think, but it’s the 220 that has the metro engine, plus turbo I think?
Was that your parents that walked into the shed to see what you're doing?
It was, I figured I’d leave that bit in to give them a laugh.
Do you plan to stretch the metros wheel base or shrink the porsche?
Depending on where you look for info the wheelbase is either the same or within about half and inch. Different wheelbases are listed for metro 6r4. But il see when the kit goes on
@@pedenconceptz ah yes, just watched the first vid, didn't realise the 6r4 wheel base was different than standard, great progress
Are 6R4s rear wheel drive? 🤔

Might have been easier to cut the car in half, thete was a guy who did an xr2i on an audi tt... he did the same thing.
