I enjoy your podcast and I watch everything "Shrek". The audio sync is pretty bad, It's like gibberish. I have no idea what they're saying, but I'd watch Shrek in Greek.
John is such a unique and candid individual. His perspective comes from experience and he is honest and not afraid to talk about the massive elephant in the room. He gets that corruption, fraud and deceit are behind much of what the fake news spins as just unfortunate situations. Ryan you are a great host and interviewer. They spend tons to pay off lobbyists/politicians, and they invest heavily in infrastructure, which not only benefits the Chinese (in shipping resources out of whatever country they are invested in) but also the locals.

I served in the marine corps and I deployed to afghanistan. I've been trying to figure out how I feel about the recent events. This video has made me see it in a different lense. Being a marine I joined to kick ass and take names. Looking back I enjoyed my time, although I wish I could have done more marine things but in the end I could have been told to go anywhere and it wouldn't have mattered to me because I'd be kicking ass and taking names. I didn't give a fuck about nation building and being in the desert of deserts and dealing with the people there I knew that wasn't going to happen. That's probably why the ROEs pissed me off as much as they did, we were on a short leash. I constantly was thinking while deployed, why are were here if (as marines anyway) and we can't level entire towns because we were mortared from it or whatever. Perhaps I do feel a little upset about it because I know we weren't going to "westernize" it so why bother with these shity ROEs The only reason why they were like that was because, I perceived anyway, the top brass and politicians were looking to nation build.
As the discussion on Afghanistan began... "Where Empires go to die" said it all. I think everyone knew the outcome 20 years ago, but at some point people in power decided that they wanted to build up a new society there and then spent the next 20 years lying about the stability and capabilities of the Afghan Government and its Military and Police. The ones who were capable, we just overnight hung them out to dry. We had no business staying, but the entire fiasco of our withdrawal... Operation Enduring Cluster Foxtrot indeed.
