I don't understand the shooting animals so many times. Sure, sometimes you need another if it's down and you can end it quicker. Are African animals that much larger and more hardy than moose, elk, etc? I'd rather wait for the animal to die than to ruin so much meat....but I've never been to Africa.
Yes. I don't even know what else to say. Unless you're exclusively hunting the small side of plains game, they are larger, often tougher, and not uncommon to be further away.

On the other hand, those non fatal long shots would be much more likely be kill shots inside 400 yards. For me, stalking is my favorite part of a hunt but I have also realized stalking African game must be much more difficult due to hunting pressures. Those shits are constantly in fear of some badass cat or hermaphrodite dogs eating then alive. Sure, America has its own predators but Africa is a whole other level. I'd love to go some time. Have you hunted there?

The man I apprentice too has hunted extensively in Africa and I've walked around his trophy room a couple times hearing the stories. The smallest calibre he took African game with was a 270, but most of his plains game was heavy pilled 30-06 and 338 WM. The pachyderms were a step up to a 404 Jeff in a BRNO.
Everything is bigger and badder in Africa!! No but honestly the only thing your gonna hunt that needs a bigger caliber with multiple shots is cape Buffalo, maybe a giraffe if your super rich. Now if your attacked by an elephant, rhino or hippo you would pray you would have a bigger caliber than .270 maybe even 300 win mag especially if your life is in the line.
