- Having wanted a table mounter router for some time, I finally turn my workbench into a router table and review the new Trend T14 workshop router.

I don't blame you at all for doing this video, really nice machine and setup. I watched it more to see your install of it all onto the workbench. However as you probably know, most DIYers won't be able to justify spending £800+ on the router+ plate.
On another note, i have seen people use a 'router starter pin' that screws into the mounting plate to give you 2 points of contact for any timber you are sliding along it (the pin and the bearing on your cutter), certainly makes it safer until you have a fence in place

It really grinds my pickle when the same company that I've been trying to get to replace my faulty tools from, that refuses me and messes me about until my guarantee expires, can just send these youtubers totally free goods just for exposure! I've spent more than i care to think about on Trend tools over the years and they can't sort my issues out but can straight up send totally free of charge tools to these guys. Shouldn't the people that pay out of there own pocket be priority for them? Obviously not🤦🏻♂️. Done with Trend as a company

Yep. They do market their tools aggressively, but they aren’t worth the money. And their support turns out to be obstructive and very expensive. I haven’t bought Trend equipment for 10 years.
I buy Trend tools but nearly every time I am disappointed with them.

The Triton TRA001 router is a much cheaper alternative (£270 for those who have to buy their own routers) to the Trend and is designed for dual mode ie as a plunge router and as a bench mounted router (with height adjustment winder from above the table). One of the things I liked about your channel was that you did things cost effectively (ie cheap). I hope you do not lose that aspect of the channel

I'm not exactly rich, but £500 for a router table powerhouse like the T14 is acceptable. Would rather buy the expensive option once, than but cheap and buy twice. But then I'm renovating a 3-bed home, with full refurnishing, so am a bit more than a light DIY'er.
speaking from personal experience.....they're definitely one of the best tools ever for instantly

Nice bit of kit, but just bought a Triton TRA001 to fit in my Table 😁.
When routing out for an insert plate like that, I find it useful to stick a small off cut of Ply of the same thickness of the template to the router opposite to the template, which prevents the router tipping over 😁

Excellent video as usual. Just one small point, it's best to rout the end grain first and then do the long grain to mitigate any chip out.

It's all well and good to have a remote NVR switch to mount at the front of the workbench, but it would also be really useful to have a speed control knob brough out to the same place. The router's speed control is a real PITA to get to if you have an underbench box with dust extraction.
Mine just sits at a happy compromise speed which is spot on (every now and then.)

I made one to but the dust went into the blade hole and set on fire so i had to make a dust collection cowle , it works a treat.
I think using the narrow end of the bench you've actually made it easier for yourself to add a fence and dust extraction. Also you still have the option of using the front of the workbench for wider opjects if needed. Looking good. I would never be able to afford the Trend T14 in the current climate, but I am interested in the insert plate. Look forward to seeing you do more routering, who knows it might improve the strength of your wifi :-D

Excellent video thank you again! Older trend routers are being sold at a very reasonable price , Same method of fitting the router plate could be used if you are a DIY person looking for low cost solution.

The trend system whilst very good is also very very expensive, if you wanted a dedicated table router system with router lift then a separate motor and raising plate from somewhere like Rutland tools would be cheaper.

What you need is a router lift i got one on Banggood for 240 euro. Handy when your changing router bit's all the time.

nice machine no doubt it will serve you for many years .i went with the Triton 1/2" myself ,2 reasons price and super fast bit change on the Triton i was hoping you would show that in video. can you raise bit enough to change it out above table .great channel
Having had a router table for a while, for dust extraction you will find that making a box or a sealed chamber for the router to be in is essential. When routing a channel in a piece of wood, the extraction on a fence is useless, as the workpiece will completely cover the router bit. Extraction is needed from under the table. Also a pin in the plate should be used when edge profiling like you did at the end of this video for the work piece to run against. Funny you should mention losing fingers as I did lose the end of one of mine in the router table, after the workpiece kicked back suddenly.

I've long been a fan of trend for router units having owned a T10 for some years now and still trying to justify the T11 and router table to the one who wants all the jobs done (the wife) this is looking like I need to rethink my work bench plans.
I am currently working on a positive airflow extraction system I'll let you know if it works
Nice video. I also have the Triton TRA which is a very good similar spec machine at a much lower price.
I don't think there is a better model than the TRA001 - at least not at that kind of price point (no doubt if you spend thousands on an industrial scale one it would be better). I'm not sure if the Trend router does this too, but the TRA having the auto collet lock when extended fully so you can change the bit with a single spanner from above the table is a game changer.
Nice little feebee you got there. but nobody in there right mind would buy that. For less than that you can get an Incra lift and a dedicated motor which is the dogs bollocks of this type of table router system.
I've got a Silverline ½" router (£96) in a table with a Charnwood W026 NVR Safety Switch (£35) and a scissor jack (£5 from scrapyard) for lifting it

Boy oh boy. You are far too relaxed doing that bit of routing. I love the part where you slapped your hands down. Dont get into a habbit doing that! Get a fence etc onto that thing before you have an accident.
Your base is a bit anemic for the weight I fear but with some beefing up should be fine. I have a 1 1/2 inch thick router base on my Woodsmith router table and it works fine with my 3 HP Porter Cable router. Gotta admit I love it and it has worked well for me over the years.
I agree, I would be nervous with that flimsy insert while spinning a 2.5” bit let alone anything larger.
A good video and definitely food for thought. Does the height adjustment system just push against the plunge springs on the router? In which case it will work with virtually any plunge router. I can afford the plate, but I'm not in the market for a new router right now... I realise I am going to have to drill the plate for my router. Thanks
I am slowly building my ideal workbench, I have two kreg benches fitted side by side giving me a 1.6m X 1 m workbench frame. Ideally I want to fit a router and table saw into the workbench top. This router would be/is ideal, perfect specs plus dedicated cut-off switch. I will save up my pennies. Here is an idea that perfectly fits your advertising goals. Go to a guy like me trying to finish his first workbench and help him complete it with TREND products.

Nice router I heard you had one. Insert looks good to. I have the T11 and DeWalt 625 which are basically the same units and previously models to yours. They are great.
Just curious to know how you are going to put an adjustable fence on your table to allow dado grooves to be cut?

Hi I have subscribed to your channel and pleased with all the videos I have watched up to now. I have even ordered a laser level after watching your video on it. I also watched the video on the router table plate and thought this would be a good project to do as i need one, I then looked at the price of the Trend router that you managed to get for free. I do think that over £853 is not what I would call a reasonable price to pay for an average DIY person. If however you get an offer of another one for free, please let me know. Regrds. Russ.

Just purchased a T14.... How does it fit in the case ?.... mine looked like it had been shoved in.... sealed box .... Awful case too .... Disappointing... Some of the attachments seem cheaply manufactured compared to my other routers.... T14 seems well made though...... I hope!

I bought quite few Trend routers and accessories about 10 years ago. Have to say, except for the T11 router, I found all of it a bit dissapointing and lacking in build quality. They are by no means worth the extra expense.
Good build, but over £700 for the router and £80 plus for the plate, ill bet there are more economical options out there……

I really don’t think that ply is a good choice for a router table. Perfectly flat insert plate at great expense placed into a material which, if flat in the first place, is unlikley to remain so. Better to buy the trend router pro table. Get a cheaper 1/12 and leave it in there. That router is damn heavy for non table use. Really only needed for routing worktops. Most diyers should go for something lighter. That router does not sound right by the way.

I love watching all the you-tube wood working posts and because I'm bias, your a brit. I follow you. :) . The only problem I see is all of the pro's like yourself use an all-ready established workshops. I have to do my DIY in the lounge. My first table is going to be a small router table. I have a makita drill and some other power tools - mini saws, sturdy trestles etc. but no workbench or table saw. Is there a video for making this? and, a trestle table workbench By Hand.
