  • Hello this short video shows how to wedge a small piece of plastic under the auto off button of a Nissan Frontier to disable the auto off engine feature. While I'm all for green and sustainable practices, I think Nissan got this feature wrong and the risk of replacing parts prematurely outweighs the small gains of saving milliliters of fuel at stop signs.
If you're like me and you find this feature annoying and have concerns about the long term harm it will cause to your starter and other engine components, hopefully this video will help you.
Prior to testing the plastic wedge, I researched plug in adapters and other methods to disable this feature, but I found this method to be the simplest, cheapest, and lowest risk to avoid malfunction or cause some other electrical issues.
Lastly, while I haven't tested it, I'm sure this quick fix would work with other vehicles.

Did to my Frontier a year ago. Glad to see the world is catching up.

This worked great! Thank you! I used the end off a black tie wrap. Everyone has one of those.

I did this using a black straw and it actually works, no more annoying auto start stop, took 30 seconds to do and only costed a straw.

Great idea! I cut an 1/8" diameter black wire shrink wrap tube to length and pushed in with razor blade no heat needed. It worked perfectly

Worked great. Tried it first with other things I had around the house but only the straw seemed to work.

Used a clear piece of clear plastic like they mold around packaged products.

What the hell does this do. Does anyone know why people are doing this? How about an explanation.

I've been told Nissan (and other car manufacturers) are having to implement this feature to meet fuel efficiency and emissions standards. It is supposed to help preserve fuel when sitting idle. I'm all for sustainable practices, but this was a dumb change. The long term wear and tear on the starter and engine will be more costly than this minuscule fuel savings.
