    After owning lacklustre Utes and a PJ Sport towing a small caravan. I decided to buy a new LC Sahara. Suddenly towing became a pleasure and not a nightmare. Some people think it is overkill because I don't plan to go off road just tow my van. But hey sometimes you just have to pay the money to stay safe. Enjoyed watching your video.

    • @great_offroad_adventures
      @great_offroad_adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely mate - not much out there that will tow better than a LC200....if that fills your purpose who’s there to judge if you take it off-road or not.
      Vise versa - plenty of people say it’s crazy me taking my 200 off-road, but it’s the purpose I need it to fill and it does it easily!!!

    great walk around video Graham. I love the 200's :) I should really do a video on our Discovery 4..... though it doesn't have half as much going on as your car does!!! would probably have to include our Camper Trailer in the video as well, just for the added content. LOL.... Cheers, Don (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)

    One must be more creative with the limited room of a wagon, versus a ute tub or particularly a tray back vehicle. You have certainly done that. An outstanding set-up and the way you talk, makes a lot of sense that only comes with experience.

    • @great_offroad_adventures
      @great_offroad_adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Kevin - yeah it was pretty tricky when we first got the LC200 especially having come straight from a ute tub and canopy.....but we made it work and have been refining it ever since.

    Good stuff mate, living the dream you are. Well done.
    You mentioned 400 Nm from factory and your power upgrade is now up around 600 ..... the twin turbo diesel V8 had 650 Nm from factory so I don’t know what happened to yours, I’d be getting that checked out
    Keep up the good work mate, enjoy the videos 👍

    • @great_offroad_adventures
      @great_offroad_adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks mate - we used a chassis dyno, so you need to remember to include a drivetrain powerloss component.....which can range from 20-40% depending on make, model, tyre size....etc, in this case the 200 is close to 40% as its turning all 4 tyres and they are bigger than factory.....so add 40% to the 600nm after result and it’ll be somewhere around the 840nm mark at the crank.

    Ever thought about getting a Lead Crystal Aux Battery? They can use up to 100% of the Ah, Charge quicker than AGM, More cycles than AGM, operating temperature range is pretty decent too, and they cost about 1/3 of the price of lithium. Also if you're camped for a few days consider making your solar panels detachable so you can be parked in the shade of trees and be able to redirect the panel at the best angle for the sun. Or have a solar blanket that you can hook up in parallel to your fixed panel.

    • @great_offroad_adventures
      @great_offroad_adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s an option, but my charger doesn’t have a Lead Crystal profile and it’s my understanding they need pretty specific charging profiles.

    Piranha off-road do a tray upgrade that fits an optima d31 for each side and also a 3rd tray

    • @great_offroad_adventures
      @great_offroad_adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah NAH - I DO NOT recommend a 3rd battery tray for 200’s.....I had a Piranha Tray & it cracked the inner guard & top of the wheel arch.
      And why put in a battery tray where the factory batteries live? That’s unnecessary spending in my opinion.....factory mounts are more than adequate for bigger batteries.

    • @great_offroad_adventures

      Nope - my light bar sits far enough back it hits the roof rather than the windscreen & bonnet....so no glare 😁.

    Yes. I have a question. Why didn’t you buy. Hilux dual cab with a canopy?

    • @great_offroad_adventures
      @great_offroad_adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because I had a dual cab ranger which I wanted to update.....had a couple options and this was the best. I knew the original owner and purchased it privately.....so got a better price, made it very difficult to go past.....having had it now for a while, absolutely no chance I’d have anything else.

    • @great_offroad_adventures

      I haven’t done the maths off the top of my head, but at a educated guess, just modifications, somewhere around $50K. I bought the car with a lot of modifications already and to save money I’ve installed a lot of others myself......still not a cheap exercise.

    • @great_offroad_adventures

    • @grahamfielder4498
      @grahamfielder4498 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly the 200 is not the best factory GVM (650 odd kgs). GVM upgrade will give you around 500 kgs more and a build like this fully loaded + passengers will need most of that.

  • @neilhaigh5189
    @neilhaigh5189 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting you have a Dobinsons GVM upgrade. I've just weighed my 200 gxl today. I'm left with 40kg and I'll be at 3350kg.
      I have the Dobinsons mrr adjustable shocks and springs. I contacted a engineer today and they said Dobinsons can only go as high as 3650kg on 200 series. I'm spewing about it as 3850 would give me alot more wiggle room.

    • @great_offroad_adventures

    Hey, in NSW it’s illegal to change the total wheel track by greater than 25mm in total (12.5mm per offset per wheel). Any idea what are your state’s regulations are?

    • @great_offroad_adventures
      @great_offroad_adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Glenn - I suggest you double check. I think your getting confused....passenger cars are limited to 25mm....off-road vehicles (category MC, NA, NB) can be increased up to 50mm. Look up Vehicle Standard Bulletin (VSB14) Section LS, Tyres, Rims, Suspension & Steering, Bottom of Page 22, Section 4.2.11.

    Great! What size wheels and tyres?

  • @jpjerome
    @jpjerome 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    224 hp with 600 newton seems pretty low for a V8, i own a GMC canyon 2016 with a 4 cylinder 2.8 liter diesel, stock it outputs 181 hp for 369lb torque, that gives with standard calculations 1641.32 newtons. Your 600 would only give 135 lb torque? not sure if it translates right

    • @great_offroad_adventures
      @great_offroad_adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      600nm converts to 442lbs.....but remember that’s being measured at all 4 wheels, not at the crank, so you need to account for a 30-40% loss in both the power and torque figures.

    • @jpjerome
      @jpjerome 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@great_offroad_adventures that would explain it, i did a google newton in lb search. ya 442 is a way better number so at the crank you should be around 680?

    • @4WheelingInNSW
      @4WheelingInNSW 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1642 Newton’s out of a 4 cylinder .... I think google stuffed that conversion somehow - 1,600 is up in big block V8 territory....

    • @great_offroad_adventures
      @great_offroad_adventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Deal was good (really good) on the 200 which just made it too hard to go past.....sure it modern & attracts some issues as a result, but being modern it’s also super comfy & great for long hauls.....has enough space for what we do, could have more if we went troopy or dual cab, but then would lose the comfort.
      Everything has a trade off, the trade off for the 200, is slightly reduced space vs the other models you mentioned & additional maintenance over an older rig, but the pros are the comfort, road manners, towing ability which those others don’t have & for the traveling I do it’s more than capable offroad.
