    I'm wondering if I've been feeding mine too often, they don't really rush for the algae wafer or half wafer I drop every other day. Gonna take it easy after seeing this and see if they get a little more urgency since the tank is planted and hasn't got too many competitors (just six ramshorn snails and snail babies)

    I feed repashy as a main staple and I find that the shrimp will be eating on that for the entire day until it’s gone. So with repashy I don’t remove it as long as shrimp are actively eating on it in decent numbers. I also never feed without a dish, at least not repashy or pellet foods that aren’t snowflake.

    • @ShrimpLife
      @ShrimpLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s pretty awesome, I’ve never tried repashy! I find a lot of foods can start to cause minor-major issues if they’re left too long or regularly overfed without removal.. How long would you say its fine to leave repashy in for before removing?

    • @massimodalessandro9259
      @massimodalessandro9259 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feed repashy (soilent green) once a week. When I add repashy, my cherry shrimp attack it! The repashy breaks down into a “pile” after 1 to 2 hours. My shrimp will just stand on that pile like they’re hanging out. On average , I add it around noon and by 5:00 (5hrs) its gone! When I make it, I also ad fine chopped up freeze dried blood worms. Mark from Mark’s shrimp tanks says it good for the female eggs. I also notice my nerite snails come along later to give a final sweep.

    • @tolstoy21
      @tolstoy21 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I mix 50/50 super green with soilent green. I put it in the morning and leave it in till it’s gone, which is by afternoon latest. This depends in how much you put in of course. I have maybe 200 CRS in my tank so they chow it all down. As I’m sure you already know, figuring out the proper food amount takes some trial and error. I always put repashy in a glass dish as it does make a mess in the substrate sitting that long. I feed that about 3x a week. I feed other stuff of course - bacter ae, mineral junkie, leaves, etc. But repashy is the main food. Water change once a week. No real water quality issues unless I get lazy about cleaning my sponge filter. Warning however, repashy soilent green stinks terrible when making it!

    So if the food is fresh vegetables, pellet or something like snello it should be removed within 2 hours? What about dried leaves/flowers? I like to collect and dry my own mulberry, dandelion leaves and flowers, birch, magnolia, common violet, oak leaves and acorn caps. Can I leave leave these items in the tank longer? There's usually a feeding delay when I put these dried leaves in. For example, a mulberry leaf doesn't begin to attract them until 1-2 hours in when it's rehydrated, the shrimp and snails are all over it by hour 4, and I'm not sure if I should be removing it if they are just starting to actively feed on it.

    • @ShrimpLife
      @ShrimpLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remove pelletized foods. Mulberry leaves can be left in. Snowflake food can be left. Oak leaves are a surface for biofilm they can be left indefinitely. I'd remove fresh veggies after a few hours. (these are my personal habits)

    What main food do you feed your shrimp? I'm looking for a pellet food which will fall apart like snowflake, but maybe a little bit slower. Currently feeding Crusta Gran from Dennerle myself.

    A question that's not really on topic but what can you do when your colony has grown so much that the smaller shrimp practically stop growing? Should I up the feeding and waterchanges or just remove the surplus?

    • @ShrimpLife
      @ShrimpLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dobo! :) You probably want to thin out your colony. I don’t have that issue because I Constantly sell from the colony. There’s usually some problems that can happen when you let the population get too large.. If you can't thin them out, bigger tank is a good idea. :)

    Wait. I can't leave leaves in? I just put alder cones and almond leaves. How long can I leave them in for.

    • @ShrimpLife
      @ShrimpLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The leaves and botanicals are different then food. Because they are not a direct food source they are a surface for biofilm. So what happens when you put aleaves or botanicals in..is micro organisms and other things colonize your leaf litter and Create biofilm on the leaf as it decomposes... you would definitely leave the leaves and botanicals in your tank... but they are not food themselves. I will definitely talk about leaf litter in a video about bio film ☺️

    I am getting worried if my shrimps are sick or not used to the tank as they don't seem to be attacking the food that I've been giving. They do seem like to stay attached on the plants and they seem to be eating something.

    • @ShrimpLife
      @ShrimpLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      they eat biofilm from the tank. they usually won't attack food unless you have a larger amount of shrimp and low biofilm, causing the need for feedings
