Lego Western, Pirates, Castle. So many great sets. I miss the days when LEGO was like this. It didn't matter if you got a small or big set your imagination would run wild.
I remember getting Sheriff's Lockup set in 1996. Actually, it was pretty funny/weird story. My parents bought it to me for my Birthday while we had pretty major financial problems at that time (fortunately, we came out of it several years later) - so getting such set for a Birthday was a pretty huge deal to me. Huge to the pretty weird extent - I remember bursting into cry-mode when I got this and locking myself in my room. Whole family was in shock and they initially thought that I didn't like the present. They tried talking to me, but all they heard was a loud cry. Before the birthday party was over, I was able to gather myself, went out of the room and explained to everyone that I don't think I deserve the present and that's the reason I've started crying. It was really overwhelming to me, getting something like that back then. I was very emotional kid at that time and I think this Sheriff's Lockup lego set was first "big" present I got for my Birthday up to this point. I was 7 years old so still a little, clueless guy.
I played mostly with bandits hideout. The opportunities to add lots of stuff when buying other sets not only from western or building new additional things inside the caves makes it even better. Once I used that piece that works with dynamite and made an imitation of explosions inside the mine. Man... That was fun
Man, I loved these themes as a 7 year old. Used to stare at the magazine and daydream for hours. Ended up getting a few of the sets and played with them endlessly.
yup,I remember when my uncle bought me 5986 for like 90-100usd back in 1999 and both of my parents pulled my ear so bad 😅 these sets were big deal back then
This was the one theme that my parents gave me, bit by bit, completely. Spawned a love for western movies and games to this day. I can never be grateful enough for having this stuff, and most of it was never disassembled. Hope my future kids will like it as much!
the fort was the one christmas gift I wanted the most and didnt get. It did seem like my mom really tried though since she seemed sad she couldnt find it, so all is forgiven.
Man this takes me back. I was 8 years old at the time living in Colorado, and there was so much "old west" in the culture where I lived. So to me, this isn't just a LEGO theme, it's a time capsule of a very happy time in my childhood. The only one of these sets I had was Showdown Canyon, but I got SOOOO much play out of that set. The one I had came with an awesome cardboard playsetting, and it just sparked my imagination.
This was amazing, you're someone who deserves more subs and success with the editing, info, and audio. No mumbling, no random words or unneeded thoughts, just straight to the point!
These old Lego sets have a beautiful nostalgia to them. I rarely got Lego as a child as my parents didn't have much money, but it was always appreciated when I did. I look forward to introducing my nephew to LEgo when he's a little older.
Man...buying a lego set for $2....holy smokes I remember getting a little pharoh set for like $4 back in the day my parents bought it for me man that was legendary. xD!!!
Nice presentation of the sets, with the right tone and without the video being too short or too long. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to seeing your next video 😊
This has got to be my favorite Lego theme ever. It was so unique and creative, and the sets were so cool! I have all of the buildings and the mine, only thing I’m missing is the Indian sets :)
There are few Lego sets I coveted as a child quite like 6755, Sheriff's Lock Up. I got my hands on a Lego catalog as a young kid and just stared at it for hours on end, and the one I remember being the most enamored with was that one. I hope to add it to my collection some day
I just wanted to say how concise and thoughtful this video is. It is very well done, and you speak with conviction and passion about this topic, which I can really appreciate. Subscribing.
I remember this and CASTLE sets! I always wanted the green dragon. Hah I remember going to my friends house as a kid and playing with their Castle set! I was always enamored by the golden crown and swords! That was Lego for me. (The start of it at least!) So nostalgic!!
I had rank 2 on this list and one of the smaller sets. Rank 2 was even my first Lego set ever, I think, when I was very little. I still know how excited I was to receive it and play with it. Yeah, without exaggerating, getting this set is an important moment of my childhood and maybe nothing makes me as nostalgic as those Lego pieces.
“This is getting out of hand!!” 😆 Though to be fair, I’ve got a long way to go to reach @RRSlugger level of GOATed. He’s the channel that got me into LEGO TH-cam in the first place!
I think I have all these sets, however some parts might have gotten lost, the building instructionals are gone for sure and they all are mixed with other sets in 2 huge chests. Probably will never be build again sadly.
oh these old lego sets brings back such sweet memory's where has the time been i sadly dont have any of these but i hope to aqauire them some day i do how ever still have lots and lots of pirate and castle sets im a '82er btw :)
I owned the second one on the list as a kid. The amount of hours I spent playing with that set... i don't remember ever getting tired of blowing the prison cell door with the stick of dynamite :) It was just genius.
Holy smokes this was a good watch! Nice commentary, good editing and so many memories. THANK YOU! Not sure if you take suggestions, but the mideviel/castle series around the same time is def something to check out. GG
Says the line "brimming with charming play features" while moving the three-barrel minigun LOL Great presentation though, and I probably agree with the rankings. I'm too young to have gotten any of the sets new, but the perfect age to have bits and pieces of most sets since they were often found in bags at thrift stores or garage sales when I was collecting LEGO growing up. This theme holds some real nostalgia for me. Some surprisingly detailed printing for the time, and fun play features, those were the times :D
I have sets 8 and 7 and another set with a nativeamerican. (kp what exactly that was). I got them over 25 years ago from a British friend of my parents who used to live here in a western town in Germany. Looking back and I know Lego is expensive, sometimes you would have wanted to build large forts and camps as well as bases for robbers/bandits and western heroes. Pity . 30 years too late. Even with videos like this I realize that I actually liked the LEGO own brands, not like today where 80 or more% brands like Starwars Mercedes........ are there. That actually gave Lego that touch of dreaminess, even if you knew that some game series and house brands were already based on existing brands (Operation Orient with Jonny Thunder was the Indian Jones blend). Yes, Lego as a manufacturer of terminal building blocks is an endless topic of discussion anyway. with pros and cons. If you ignore the prices and the partly not so good implementation ........... . Well, I had my Lego time, but today, if I had to play with clamping blocks again or have to build something, fortunately, thanks to the internet and online trading, I would buy everything from these 2 or 3 providers like cobi or bluebrixx. Lego IS, WAS, AND WILL ALWAYS BE EXPENSIVE. 94 vintage👍
Yep! LEGO being expensive is nothing new. And I agree that the licensed sets aren’t quite as charming as these, but they have their place. The 90s were my favorite era of LEGO by far!
Great video love the western theme once again my visits to the flea market paid off because I managed to get almost all the sets except the mini sets. I even found 3 sheriff lock up but used the other two to make a saloon. I even added my lone ranger sets with the rest of the collection
My personal ranking would be something like this: 1- Fort Legoredo 2- Bandit's hideout 3- Sheriff's lock-up 4- Gold City Junction (3-4 are interchangeable) 5- Covered Wagon 6- Showdown Canyon 7- Bandit's Wheelgun 8- Sheriff's showdown 9- Frontier Patrol It's very similar to your ranking :) I completed my Lego Cowboys collection 2-3 years ago and I love it!
I got set 6712 witht the sherif and bandit when I was about 10 years old, still have it with the booklet. My parents couldnt really afford any money for toys when i was young. So I used to save up all my birthday gift money and bought wild west lego or pirate lego. It was so wonderful, played with it day in and out. A friend of mine got the fortress and I believe the old Lions castle. Not in my wildest dreams I would ever own those. Now im older with my own kids 2 and 4. I sometimes treat myself or them to some lego, cause I can 😊. What a great life.
Oh boy, you said for the first set "not much to say about it" but there is a trumpet in the set. I've never seen one in my life. I even didn't know it exist.
I almost managed to get the entire set of buildings as a child, but my parents could never find the Gold City Junction set in stores for me. I spent hours looking at the pictures of it in the LEGO catalog, and just wishing I could get the 4th and final member of the bandits, Flatnose Curry. Also, not sure if this was always the case, but my Showdown Canyon set came with a large, plastic moulded canyon.
I managed to find Fort Legoredo in the back of a store in Munich, sometime in the early 2000s. It was 80-90 euros. I was just young enough to get some serious playtime from it lol. Still one of my fondest Lego memories 😄
This was some of my favorite lego. It is insane how cheap these where for how much I played with them. I won't lie, I cannot remember if I still have these and it kills me.
My childhood! My brother always made fun of any set that wasnt from before 1995, hated the painted horses, etc. Made me feel scared to really embrace them as a kid. Never would have called them my favorite. Now that I'm grown, i think it really may have been.
I only had some small sets of this, the sherrif's office was the only structure I had. I was 11 in 1996, could not resist the urge to get some of the cowboys but was trying to stick to themes I already had stuff of. A friend did have the town which was pretty cool, we played with that quite a bit. I think he had the wagon too. Another friend had the whole theme I think, but I am not sure if we ever played with it. He was that one friend who'd just get everything of a new theme for his birthday from his parents.
@@keltondavisLEGO I did yes, many fond memories of playing with Lego. It where good years for Lego back then. Great pirate sets, great medieval sets, many cool space themes, and other kids who came to play at my house always wanted to play with the marina harbour. I don't think they ever made another harbour for speed boats ever again.
I wish i was around when these sets were released they all look so good! And those prices are insanely cheap compared to modern lego, id love to buy so of these for myself but where am i gonna get that much money from!?
your generation definitely had the best lego i really enjoyed watching this I would have loved those sets i should have appreciated the themes like lego city police pirates and castle when i was younger
The buildings have the charm of 90s sets, even if they stay basics. The minifig are great. But women miss a lot in this universe ! The tan baseplate with road is a banger. Great thing of this theme is the number of little boxes.
What would the women be doing though? As a kid I wanted soldiers to play fight with. Women can fight too technically, but its just not the same. And what other roles can they fill while playing with Lego? Not many. Let's face it, we didn't miss female legos back then, and we dont miss them today either.
If i can I’ll try to get town buildings like lockup and the bank. I really want to build a Lego city and they look very well made. Also theoretically you could place them next to modern buildings and it’s like showing the passage of time figuratively and literally
I agree, however, I think Sheriff's Lock-up is much better than Fort Legoredo because it's much more balanced and due to character selection it has much more playability. It just has enough to play with, it's a 2 vs 2, having 2 bandits and 2 good guys, it includes the sheriff who's missing in the Fort, it has a horse, the gold, the large barrel and the dynamite mechanism. It's true that Fort Legoredo has many more minifigs, many more horses, one more barrel and so on. It basically has more of everything, but the fact it's just bigger doesn't make it better and doesn't add more playability. Sheriff's Lock Up has a key role in Wild West theme and can be paired with any other set without missing anything. Sheriff's Lock Up and Bandits Secret Hideout is more than enough for having a great time, or separately Sheriff's Lock Up and Gold City Junction is once again more than enough without needing any other sets around. But any other set alone would miss the Sheriff Lock Up because this set brings everything together as the Sheriff character and his office makes everything to have sense in a Western Universe 🤠
Man I Loved to Play with the fort as a child by my aunt. It was Just Always a Highlight in Christmas. And now that I am 20 I even was as lucky as to find a lego General figure for literalie Cents to buy on a flew Market. Just amazing. Sadly lego never Made more lego Western besides the Lone Ranger Series (even If the Set with Lone Ranger and the 3 Soldiers is still a realy good one)
The builds are a bit simple. But the theme is pretty cool. I was just outgrowing Lego at the time, so I didn't go for it. Like the sets with indians better.
Lego Western, Pirates, Castle. So many great sets. I miss the days when LEGO was like this. It didn't matter if you got a small or big set your imagination would run wild.
Though I like the licensed sets, my heart is really always going to be with the non-licensed themes of the past. Nothing quite beats them!

Ditto, my friend! Magazine-staring was an honored pastime, especially when we couldn't afford the sets in real life.
These seem so cheap till you remember minimum wage was $4.75 in 1996. Makes me really appreciate my parents
Yeah. LEGO has always been, and will always be, pretty expensive.
The big difference is how much of what you made was expendable. Basic expenses were a LOT cheaper back then, too.

Fort Legoredo was the dream of so many 90s children.
Very good editing man, watched the whole thing !
Thanks so much! It’s my favorite retro theme, and I couldn’t wait to make this one!
Love the same Sheriff Wyatt. (Wyatt Earp.) I could only imagine the number of kids recreating scenes from Tombstone with these sets.
Which is a movie I, of course, never saw as a kid 😉 😉 😉
So underrated TH-camr
Thank you! I’m just starting out, so there’s a lot of room to grow.
My childhood!
My brother always made fun of any set that wasnt from before 1995, hated the painted horses, etc.
Made me feel scared to really embrace them as a kid. Never would have called them my favorite.
Now that I'm grown, i think it really may have been.
Sorry to hear that you weren’t able to fully embrace them as a kid, but so glad you can now! 😊
Nice and to-the-point format. Hope to see some aquazone soon :)
It's on the list!
Haha! We all had those friends that got EVERYTHING we wanted 😆. But I’m glad you at least got to play with some of these great sets!
I played hours and hours with my Legoredo, especially in the headquarter with the deck of cards
I’m learning even more how important this theme was to so many people. So great to hear your experiences!
I wish i was around when these sets were released they all look so good! And those prices are insanely cheap compared to modern lego, id love to buy so of these for myself but where am i gonna get that much money from!?
Here’s hoping that they’ll revitalize the theme in the future!
I hope!
Just subscribed man, great video! I’ve also got a small channel and it’s cool to see other ones doing such great work!
Thank you! 🙏 Here’s to both of us not being small for long!
@@keltondavisLEGO cheers 🍻 Let’s make it Happen!
your generation definitely had the best lego i really enjoyed watching this I would have loved those sets i should have appreciated the themes like lego city police pirates and castle when i was younger
And I’m sure even younger generations will say the same thing about your generation’s LEGO. We love what we grow up with!
This was a very well done video. Please look into the Lego pirates line next!
Thanks! Pirates is definitely on the short list!
Western was so good set, I had a few of them including the fort. It's a great shame they discontinued the set so quickly
The 90s were a rough time for LEGO. Lots of great themes that didn’t sell super well.
Excellent video, I loved Western!
Me too! This video was a labor of love.
@@keltondavisLEGO I hope this gets more love from TH-cam.
You quoted Slugger, I hope he references you in the future too!
@@docnecrotic Slugger is my favorite LEGO TH-camr, so that would certainly be cool! Just gotta keep growing.
The buildings have the charm of 90s sets, even if they stay basics. The minifig are great. But women miss a lot in this universe ! The tan baseplate with road is a banger. Great thing of this theme is the number of little boxes.
You’re absolutely right about the lack of women! LEGO is only just starting to approach more equity in that regard.
What would the women be doing though? As a kid I wanted soldiers to play fight with. Women can fight too technically, but its just not the same. And what other roles can they fill while playing with Lego? Not many. Let's face it, we didn't miss female legos back then, and we dont miss them today either.
I recall of the Western Sets, I had Sheriff's Showdown and Weapons Wagon. Course the set I wanted to get was Sheriff's Lockup.
Great times!
If i can I’ll try to get town buildings like lockup and the bank. I really want to build a Lego city and they look very well made. Also theoretically you could place them next to modern buildings and it’s like showing the passage of time figuratively and literally
Great idea! I’ve also seen some people use them as a Western-themed amusement park within a modern LEGO city.
Good points all around! I suppose the best solution would be to just get all of them! ;)
W video bruv, I loved this theme
Same bro
It’s my favorite of all time!
The Lone Ranger series is definitely a contender for a future episode of Retro LEGO.
Nice!
Thanks 🙏
Lego Alpha Team would be fun to see
I agree!
MAn...my buddy had Fort Legoredo. I wonder if he still has it lol. That must be worth a LOT now....:P !
LEGO is often considered a better investment than gold 😂
Do castle sets next please!
It’s on the list! My BIONICLE episode just posted today!
As a fellow European once said,
"C'est Magnifique"
Thank you! More on the way!
Western needs to make a come back.
You heard it here, LEGO!!
Do another video for midevil castle sets
DEFINITELY on the list! It's going to be a massive video!
I wish I was alive when these came out 😢
The 90s were wonderful times for LEGO, that's for sure.
How does this channel have less than 1K subs??
Not for long!! But I’ve only been doing this for real for 6 weeks, so I’m thrilled with y’all’s responses!
Seriously why isn't this a theme for lego today, with more castle sets!
The licensed themes from movies kinda swept in and took center stage. But I do miss the old original themes!
these were the first themes of lego chess, I miss that game
Along with LEGO Island, that game soaked up SO much of my time as a kid 😂
i really hope they remake fort legoredo in the style of the eldorado fortress they did a few years ago
Yep! I can imagine more brick-built walls and more detailed Minifigs. Could be great!
I got Fort Legorado from Aliexpress for like $30. It is wonderful
🎉 🎈
wish they brought this theme back
Ditto!
The builds are a bit simple. But the theme is pretty cool. I was just outgrowing Lego at the time, so I didn't go for it. Like the sets with indians better.
Those will feature in a future episode!
