Looking for Legendary Swords or Haunted House? They’re not actually islands, I made a whole video about these Miniquests! Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/Fp_i_-W4RZQ/w-d-xo.html
Legendary Swords was made into a full island in 2017....... sure it still ended on a cliffhanger but you got a medal for it in the island version so there's that! The island version was removed with all the other flash islands in 2020!
I remember being absolutely mindblown when Counterfeit Island made you go to a different island to talk to someone, that seemed completely out of the box for their independent islands design.
Fun fact: Arabian Knights was actually a fan-made Poptropica island! People were able to submit their designs and ideas to Poptropica using these “Create Your Own Island” books!
so so good. i remember ghost story island scared me so bad because-in this SOUNDLESS GAME-suddenly i’m looking through a telescope and i hear a WOMANS VOICE COME THROUGH MY SPEAKERS. needless to say child me was so freaked out. 10/10 island.
Yes! It jumpscared me too! I was playing it later in the evening as a kid and I about jumped out of my chair. Nowadays lots of islands have soundtracks, but there really weren’t that many that even had sound clips back in the day.
This is insane. Poptropica was definitely a STAPLE in the computer lab. I think the last island that I remember playing was the superhero island? I feel like I “aged out” of the love of it. My favorite island was the super spy one too!
mythology island is always my favorite, when you actually care about greek mythology and can notice the references, same with the astro knights and the arthurian references... poptropica is super fun with reinventing existing stories also i genuinely fucking hate shrink ray island and i remember how much i hated having to try to escape and i spent several hours on it by just going to the shop and procrastinating😭
Even though I never beat it Shrink Ray is a definite classic. I can definitely understand your frustration tho, cuz I somehow softlocked myself so that I couldn't even return to the blimp and got stuck for hours.
The Cryptid Island terrified me as a kid because of the Jersey Devil. When it appeared, I screamed and force quit the game. I was absolutely convinced that the Jersey Devil was going to be outside my bedroom window despite me living in Arizona. I was traumatized!
I remember never progressing past Super Power Island because once my character could fly I thought what more could I want, and starting the next island without the power made me upset so I’d never leave.
I remember finding a bug that let you use flight outside of superpower island. Some of the items you could get weren’t island specific, and a few of them would teleport you to short challenge levels when used. If you turned flight mode on and used the Dr. Hare themed one, the game wouldn’t properly remove your ability to fly and you could use it in that challenge. Unfortunately, I never found a way to bring it to other islands.
Pop tropical was such a huge part of my childhood. I remember playing counterfeit island for the first time with my sister on our 13th birthday. It introduced her to art history and restoration. Now she has a bachelors in art history and is going to graduate school this summer for archival studies. Literally introduced her to her dream job!
Also remember helping her get through reality tv and when I told her to write “because I’m stupid” she thought I was messing with her and got really mad lol
The Marie Curie puzzle on shrink ray island can be found by turning on the hot water in the bathroom; the code’s written on the steamed mirror. Years later I still haven’t forgotten the absurd difficulty of that island..
I remember I figured it out because I got an ad before a thinknoodles video that said a good way to protect a password is with numbers and my kid brain didn’t understand it was an ad and tried it out
i played poptropica for a span of several years as a kid but was never able to beat shrink ray so i’m glad i’m not the only one who thought it was hard af.
I believe survival island is based on the story "The Most Dangerous Game". I think its an awesome concept for a poptropica island and im pleasantly suprised they went for it
Interesting to note about poptropolis games: it was a special island in that it wasn't always available to play. It would "rise from the sea" for a short amount of time before "returning to the depths" I think it was supposed to be a once a year thing. but yeah
I remember there being a Froot Loops tie in promotion with special in-game item that you could only get for around a couple weeks some time in 2007 or 2008
Poptropica will always have a special place in my heart. I still occasionally use the account I created when I was 7 years old. I especially remember how nearly all of the islands were too difficult for me to understand so I’d literally just watch Thinknoodles walkthroughs for every single island 😭😂
SAME! I did that exact same thing, I'd literally play like 16 seconds of the game, get stuck, watch thinknoodles play it, and repeat. I'm surprised my 6 year old brain even found that remotely fun with the way I perceive things now
This days Poptropica greatest failure is being a phone app instead full blown steam game where each island is a playable full on game (and you can definitely remove some of the islands and make a big islands. That way the money will be more investment to the game
They could honestly release a pack of all the islands together in one game for like $15-20 and I'd buy it (maybe on switch as well so it could be mobile?)
Bro I low-key want that or a switch game. Think about it, Poptropica had DS games and I think Poptropica being a switch game where they can put all the current and old islands on it then they can update it as they add more islands.
@@simoneperkins4419 I think they fought they still were going to develop the game frequently and app was an easier source. But the app is not getting much more content If I am not mistaken
@@yuvale6306 Yeah last I played it which was almost two months ago there's nothing new about it, no new islands, no old islands returning, they are re-releasing islands that didn't need to be re-released and were available when flash died Ex: The episode islands like Poptropicon, Survival, Arabian nights.
Skullduggery Island was one where younger me was so proud of defeating the final boss using only the second best ship rather than the full best ship. It just felt so cool that the boss wasn't restricted to having the best gear, and it allowed you to challenge yourself by being more tiny.
Poptropica is, by far, my FAVORITE online flash game. Logging on and seeing a newly released island, spending hours playing through that and old islands, seeing teasers for new islands, watching Thinknoodles tutorial videos cuz little me was dumb, endlessly customizing my character (Strange Boa!), unlocking secrets, playing games with strangers in the hub areas,,, it's all just so many fond memories. There was just so much love, care, and creativity that went into a fundamentally free online game that I think was/is very rare. Even the lackluster islands had so much effort put into graphics and design. Cryptid, Greek Mythology, and Vampire Island was my SHIT!! My ONLY qualm with the game was the awful chat system- which I get was to protect children playing the game-- but I hated it😂
It’s kinda similar to a game I played in 2004 called Sitekick, but I do recall the first island I’ve ever played being virus hunter because I thought the coloured islands were the unlocked ones.
I was really upset about the old islands not being playable anymore.. they were truly unmatched. Maybe one day I will download flashpoint and relive my childhood once more. I remember being really bad at Spy island because I never wanted to look up guides LOL. At the time, some of the islands were member locked as well, so I didn't get to fully experience some islands like Wimpy Kid. I think one of the moments I remember most was being mind blown at Fiona's song in Ghost Story Island, because of both the sound and getting to play the violin. To this day I still remember the melody😹This video deserves more attention, I'm glad you made it!
I MISS SPY ISLAND! But the ones that I really miss are Early Poptropica, 24 Carrot Island, Time Tangled island, Super power island, and Shark Tooth Island…
It’s so crazy to see how many people enjoyed this game back in the day. It was such an amazing experience we didn’t even realize we were all sharing. I’m so glad you’re giving it the recognition it deserves. I’d love to see you talk about some of the extra islands(?) like Legendary Swords, that was always my favorite as a kid🙏
i'm glad i'm not the only one who was terrified by that thing as a kid lol. probably didn't help that i played a lot of the levels at night but i used to have nightmares about that damn jersey devil
The moment I saw the words "Astro Knights", a tidal wave of nostaglia and joy emerged in my mind. It's been years since I played that island and watching your summary of it felt as if I was teleported back in time to my own playthrough, like old memories being unlocked. A well-deserved S. I appreciate the trip down memory lane you crafted in this spectacularly dedicated vid, I'm surprised to hear the game is still being updated with new content
Poptropica is sooooo nostalgic to me. I remember constantly losing my account info as a kid and creating a new character most times I logged in lol. But that just made me redo some of the classic islands (like the first 15 ish) so many times. Counterfeit was always my fave too! Something about the story was so fun for me.
Haha that’s funny. I don’t think I lost accounts, but I definitely had like 5-10 accounts made just because I loved playing through each island as a kid. That’s really cool we both love counterfeit! It must be good then haha. Thanks for sharing I love hearing this stuff
Despite having no reason to do so, Vampire's curse island made such A HUGE impact on me. I was obsessed with the island and it basically kickstarted a whole stack of fan comics, fan fictions, and my whole art career (I really can thank it for literally getting me to where I am). The weirdest part is that just as I thought earlier this month that maybe I'm finally over with this island, I revisited poptropica and got obsessed again. I can't believe I am still not over Count Bram....Thank you for this video it's literally so nostalgic to revisit. Though the title tbh should be "I played and ranked EVERY Poptropica Island because you can't", because i would totally play this game all over again if I could :')
On the vampire island, when the count is defeated and dies, seeing how his ashes form his image next to his long lost wife on the portrait, really had 9 year old me crying
I actually had to read a short story for school called “The Most Dangerous Game”. I’m like 90% sure that it inspired Survival Island in some way. On a more interesting note, I remember finding out that you could go under the wolf in Vampire’s Curse and didn’t have to cut the bridge.
I’ve been scrolling trying to see if someone would bring up the most dangerous game I immediately thought that when he started explaining that island, def was based on it
poptropica improved my english so much as a non-fluent child. i distinctly remember struggling with islands that were more text heavy, up until i became more proficient and as a result, much more immersed. this made every replay doubly satisfying. i'm so happy i got to experience it and will always remember it fondly. thanks for this video 💌
Ahhh you forgot Haunted House mini island. It was an item available in the store and you go to the island through the island. It was super short (comparable to the early islands) but I remember it being one of my faves
There were actually several of those types of things. Legendary Sword, Dr. Hare's Lab, Earth Day, and the Blimp Adventure. It'd be unfair to compare them to the full-on islands tho
@@TMS-Oddbot Dr Hare’s was my favorite of those, not because of the gameplay, but because you could glitch flight from superpower island into working there
Even though I LOVED the stories to the other islands, I replayed Reality TV island so much because I just had so much fun with the mini games, and being able to see some of the iconic characters from each other island battle with me (and honestly I’d just vote off my least favorite ones and be sad when my favorites left lol) thanks for this amazing nostalgic video I’m definitely going back to play these. :)
Reality TV was also my fav! I was very young when I played poptripica so it was one of the few I learned to do without the help of my older sisters. Even when I got a little older it is still my favorite
it was my fav too, I love that there were different challenges each time you replayed and that I sucked at some but was really good at others and the voting… I was always gritting my teeth hahaha
I remember sitting in the computer room in middle school just playing Mythology, Spy, Skullduggery, Superpower, Time Tangled, and so many more of the earlier islands. I spent hours just playing this game. Thank you for making this video, now I'm gonna go play a computer game that I miss so much.
Poptropica still has a special place in my heart - some of my favorites are Spy Island, Cryptid Island, Nabooti, 24 Carrot, Red Dragon Island and (of course) Astro Knights. Mythology, Counterfeit, Wild West, Skullduggery, Mystery Train, and Shrink Ray, are iconic too!
I enjoyed poptropica so much as a kid. I assume the reason why the islands got easier as they went along was to make it more accessible to children? Because I remember not being able to finish some islands without the help of ThinkNoodles in elementary school.. still, I wish they had stuck with their original complexity, especially since their audience was aging anyway. My favorite islands growing up were Cryptids & Ghost Story. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, it was all super nostalgic for me :)
I kept on being like, “oh I guess that’s when I stopped playing” but then recognized islands way further in then I expected. I started playing this game back when there was only three islands and boy howdey six year old me could barely beat early poptropica. I think that’s why reality TV island is my favorite lol, it was the first REAL island I beat after dozens I could barely get anywhere in (helped that I was several years older at that point) great video!
Justice for Ghost Story Island. I would play the violin over and over again because I love the song so much, parts of the twist definitely shocked me to my core, and the setting itself is so beautiful. Poptropolis Games is another favorite of mine. I actually loved the challenges and the setting is super cool. The lack of story never bothered me, it was just a fun setting with a clear goal and it's one I would play if I just wanted to play minigames and not worry about running back and forth.
I remember reading the short story Survival island is based off of in high school, and I couldn’t stop laughing because I couldn’t imagine the characters being anything other than little poptropica figures. That island gets extra points in my book just because of that 😂
Wow nostalgia overload… I was a beta tester for this game many years ago, it only had 3 islands to start with and I remember all the other kids at my school trying to figure certain stuff out like how to knock the shark out or the order you’d need to time travel on that one island. I remember keeping up with it for a year or two but I think the last dialed I recall releasing and playing was the secret agents one.
i havent played poptropica recently, but i remember it being my favorite computer game back in the late 2000s- early 2010s. im dissapointed to see thats its gone a bit downhill but im not surprised at the changes made in hopes of staying relevant. im rlly glad i found this video either way :)
I agree with you that it would've been really cool if they made more islands that crossed over with older islands. They could've made a cool, interconnected world with recurring characters and everything. I could even see it almost as a live service game (despite how many failures plague that idea), where each update changes and adds to previous worlds. Like, you defeat a villain on one island, and then later they might be doing something evil on another island you already previously saved, giving them an opportunity to expand on mechanics and characters.
Astrokinghts Island is indisputable the best Island Poptropica ever made. The setting, story, and scope were far greater than anything we had seen or would ever see again. As you mentioned, the medieval setting crossed with robotics was an exceptionally cool aesthetic and the mystery of Mordred was extremely interesting. Like who was this guy? He's clearly behind all these advancements (which is good) but he also seems to have been cast out (which is bad). He supposedly created crimes against nature (which is bad) but we meet one of his creations (the owl) who seems helpful and nice. Is Mordred good or is he evil? Is he alive or is he dead? It's so fascinating how he's the most important character in the story, yet you don't even know it he's alive until the very end. He's an impressively complex character who's so well incorporated into the mystery and aesthetic of the Island and was critical to the plot even though you don't actually meet him until the very end. And the setting does a great job of foreshadowing his return without even letting you know 100%. Like his experiments of combining living things with robots explain how he survived and you are fighting all these weirdly robotic creatures before you get to him. I always suspected he was connected to the great evil we were fighting but I never knew for sure. It's a great example of the setting informing the story and that's hard to pull off in any game let alone an internet flash game for kids! And on top of all of this, Astroknights was one the hardest islands to complete gameplay wise. You were always mentally puzzled and challenged by what to do next. This combined with the greater scope (you were literally traveling to different planets!), fantastic story, and intriguing aesthetic really solidified Astroknight as the best Island ever made! Bravo Jeff Kinney, bravo!
Agree with everything but your final verdict. I must say the AstroKnights island is one of the best islands ever created, and evelated Poptropica into its golden age (2009-2014), but at times the island can be very aggravating (take the platforming on the fire planet and the phoenix boss fight as an example), especially for a game aimed at kids. As a result it won't go number one on my list, but still definitely in the top 10.
I used to love Poptropica so much!! In elementary, I would go to school early every day just to play it in the computer lab. At the time, I didn't know you could create your own account and save your progress, so I just went as a guest and replayed 24 Carrot a MILLION TIMES until I could practically do it with my eyes closed. I was never able to get all of the way through because I had no idea you could save your progress!! To this day, I still don't need to use the map at all and I have every password memorized. Thanks for putting this together. I watched the whole thing.
this video felt like it was 15 minutes long i literally loved watching it & waiting for the next island to be talked abt!!! 24 carrots, mythology, astro knights, & counterfeit island were defs my favs!! (also there was a little sword game you could buy in the shop,, i really liked that one as well!)
My most profound memory of poptropica is the cryptid map and when you go to find the Jersey Devil. As a kid, it literally scared me so bad I quit the game and never went back to that island until I was older.
thank you so much for making this video!! poptropica was such an important part of my childhood and i loved hearing what you had to say about each island
oh my god the wave of nostalgia that hit me as soon as i saw the footage was unbelievable. so many hours of my childhood were sunken into this game. hm. might download flashpoint and start a new playthrough at this point.
I only ever played Poptropica for about an hour and a half on a cousin's computer, but I will never forget the awe and enjoyment I had. I came to this video looking to see if I could bring back any memories, only to find that the spacefaring adventure I had had was only a tiny fraction of the game. That's right, my intro to the game was Astro Knights, and I thought that was the whole game.
I honestly really enjoyed Ghost Story Island, it was one of the few island’s I completed almost entirely by myself. Way back when I would always go to the island play the violin when I started up the game. Personally I’d say it deserves at least a mid B. I’d probably put it a higher on my own list tho.
Same! I find the violin part so beautifully haunting. The atmosphere of the island is something special. I'm a hobbyist writer, and when I have writer's block I boot up flashpoint and revisit Ghost Story for inspiration. Definitely an A in my book ♡
Skullduggery was my favorite. I didn’t upgrade from the raft until the story required me to. I liked wandering around and luring other ships and monsters into rocks. Then I upgraded to the max and then proceeded to run into everything cause the increased speed messed with my control.
Survival island’s story reminds me of a story I read where this guy crashes a ship and finds a hunter who’s tired of hunting for animals and finds more entertainment for hunting people. I wonder if that’s the inspiration for that game or just a coincidence honestly wish I could remember the name of the story. also great video I’m glad people are talking about the poptropica again I still occasionally log into my old account from when I was a kid so this was nice to see
Despite my lack of knowledge in English when I was little, I still manage to enjoy playing Poptropica and even accomplish some missions like the ones from Super Heroes, Time Tangled and Early Poptropica and even half of the iconic Astro Knights. I remember I would read blogs that showed up how to solve the different missions because I didn't have no idea about what they were saying in the dialogues🤣
Damn what a ride. I love remembering the old islands. It’s so interesting to hear about the islands I never played but are gone now and what the new pop tropic is like.
I was actually really into Greek mythology, yet was disappointed by the island compared to genres I wasn't as immediately into. I do think often fans of a genre will be much more critical vs others being pleasantly surprised
I sort of agree, but I was also really into Greek mythology as a kid and absolutely loved that island. I felt so smart figuring out the who's who puzzle of gods/goddesses lol
This was literally a staple of my childhood. Started playing it the year it came out, and I would get SO pumped every time they made a new island. I spent wayyyy too much time flying around on super power island, and I remember feeling so accomplished when tiny me figured out how to beat the first 3.
This is so Nostalgic, I remember I would always play the wimpy kid boardwalk island and i just couldn’t figure out how to solve it for the life of me lol
Oh the nostalgia I’m getting from watching this. I remember in middle school playing this in the library on the old desk-top computers. Such fun memories!
Big nate was such a wild moment to me man, I was so confused. It was like if they made a Calvin and hobbies island which would already be a weird turn, except instead of a universally known comic ip it was...Big nate?? Who
I remember getting into poptropica when shark tooth island was brand new and maybe even under construction and the last one I remember was the spy one and there were a couple under construction. Im glad so many people appreciate these games
i just randomly stumbled upon this video and my love for poptropica had been reignited!! thank u for bringing me back to the simpler times where my biggest concern was beating every level to get a poptropica membership😭😭
The nostalgia that I got for this video! The OG Poptropica was my childhood! Also, after watching this video, I realized just how many of those islands I never actually finished, lol. I honestly just loved exploring the worlds in most of them
I loved poptropica so much as a kid and remembered using thinknoodles walkthroughs for spy island lol. survival island and time tangled island were my favorites and i really liked escape from pelican rock too! i must’ve beat pelican rock like 3 times during computer class and i would be the person showing my friends how to beat it because i was like a poptropica master. good times, i miss the good old days of flash and good poptropica islands
Poptropica was like a fever dream to me. Whenever I ask anyone around me about it they look at me like I was crazy!! It’s a shame you hate most of the islands I adored as a kid but I’d give anything to play the old islands again…
Escape from pelican rock is my favorite island, so I’m a tad bit upset with where it ended up. Survival island, though, is right where it belongs. I miss proptropica and this video made me really happy. Needless to say, I’m subscribed.
You know what's crazy? I remember exactly when I started playing Poptropica because Red Dragon had just come out and I literally cried because those kids were stuck in Japan and I couldn't save them because I wasn't a member lmaooooo also, the vibes of cryptids, counterfeit and ghost story island are UNMATCHED. my favourite islands then and now!!!
Nostalgia has definitely clouded my vision, because Twisted Thicket has always been my favorite... but I haven't played in FOREVER! So it being in D tier definitely shocked me for realsies
When I played Poptropica, there were like 5 islands. Imagaine My surprise when I revisited a few years later. And actually, when I played, they didn't even have that cosmetics shop. Best you could do was copy items from other characters. It was HUGE when they added that shop.
Ahh I remember the day Astro Knights came out. Me and my sister were counting down the days. All the crazy new features like building your own ship and going into space blew our minds. Thanks for the nostalgia!
Thank you for this video! Poptropica was my LIFE as a kid, and I'm so happy to see other people still thinking about it too! I really enjoyed revisiting all the old islands with you (Even if our opinions on some of them differ lol)
Virus Hunter, Mocktropica, and Zomberry were some of my favorites from when I played! And I played since 2010 up to the release of Monkey Wrench. Loading times (or at least going back and forth frequently) were a bit of an issue, but I really don't remember them being that long as they seemed to have been for you. Different strokes for different folks tho, I guess! Happy to see you Putin the work and review them regardless 💪🏾
This video was phenomenal and so thorough! You managed to be unbiased with your rankings and I agree with you pretty whole heartedly on them. I'm glad to see someone who still loves the game and gets excited about it all these years later. God bless you man!
I remember I used to love the vampire island as a kid!! I do remember it being tedious, it was mostly the 〜vibes〜 that made it cool. also loved Pelican Rock. great video!!! 💚
The Red Dragon island was my favorite!! I also loved the concept of Virus Hunter island but found it difficult when I was younger. I also remember Twisted Thicket being difficult because I never figured out how to get through the forest without the sprites carrying me away.
I loved this whole video, thank you for making it! Obviously there are a couple rankings I like more than you did, and a couple I like less, but I’m just glad to see such a cool and well thought out video on poptropica after the game has existed for so long. I feel the sudden need to go download and play all the old islands now.
Got the nostalgia bite so I'm coming back to this video again. I'll never forget being obsessed with this game when I was 8. Like, I'd literally play it every day. Then I got to the point in Counterfeit island where it got dark and the shady guy was asking me to break into the museum and for some reason that scared me so bad I didn't play the game again for MONTHS because I was terrified to respawn back in front of him. Good times.
the jersey devil design gave me nightmares as a kid; I actually thought I'd see it now and realize how silly I was as a kid but *NOPE* that thing is still hella uncomfortable to look at good job to the artist who made it (It looks really cool!!!!). Some of the freakiest moments in these games was when they were clearly experimenting with using sound; the constant silence being broken by the LOUD crashes or the tiny whispers was so jarring I would flip my bean every time
what an amazing time back in those days, a bunch of the older islands I loved due to nostalgia and how open ended they seemed (at least in comparison to some of the more recent ones) sure some of the stories were simple but it was still fun to play, there might have been no sound but by that point we were so used to it that when sound came into the game we didn't care all that much because it doesn't add much and the gameplay and story made up for the lack of sound. I was nearly heartbroken when I found out that they removed most of the islands, the series was reduced to a mobile game basically and flash was unsupported after 2021. I made sure to get flashpoint at least so I can experience most of the islands again, sure there are some bugs but I can live with that in comparison to the grandeur of the older poptropica islands. some of my favorite islands would consist of: astro knights island, skullduggery island, spy island, counterfeit island, cryptids island, and survival island. all of which have something special that I love. astro knights island: this one is obvious, the setting, the lore, the gameplay, the adventure, it has it all in one island and nothing felt lacking. skullduggery island: while the beginning is basic and the going back and forth part can annoy some people, I love the different themes and settings of all of the islands in this island. even though there is hardly a story on this island, it's quite open ended and you can earn doubloons and supplies in more ways than one by killing pirates and sea monsters or by trading back and forth. you always felt excited whenever you bought a new ship and are seeing it for the first time and you can also hire crew members which are entirely optional but if you explore and decide to get them then you get buffs to your ship. I think if the island was expanded upon more, add some more stuff to do and whatnot, it could really be its own game. spy island: decoding messages, using cool gadgets, saving poptropica from going bald, only the 6th island and it has a lot of stuff in it. counterfeit island: the setting, the story, stopping an art thief by figuring out clues and not to mention travelling to a different island as a part of this island. cryptids island: the idea its self is amazing, plenty of mystery and exploration to be had in this island all for you to figure out. plenty of places to go, plenty of cryptids to see, and you can do a lot on this island. survival island: an actual survival situation going through various phases of the journey makes you feel as if you were there and is actually challenging at times. probably the only episodic island that does it perfectly (but arabian nights isn't bad) then again, my opinions aren't facts and you may have a completely different list than I do but I am a big setting and theme person and if a theme/setting is good then I will like it naturally unless the gameplay or story wasn't to my liking. in conclusion, I have heavy nostalgia for this game as a whole (except for the newer islands either because I haven't played them or not enough time has passed for me to have nostalgia) and I am glad somebody went out of their way to rank all of the islands like you did. a lot to read I know but I was never good at explaining things in a single sentence so instead you get this.
looks like we had a pretty similar list! I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on the game. I'm especially glad you also went out of your way to replay those old islands! I'm sure you'd agree it was worth it.
i can see that! "Doomed Island" where you visit slices of previous islands in a doomsday scenario. gather various stuff to make the maguffin, including puzzles specifically focused one using items from one island in another
It's 2023 and I feel so old watching you play through Poptropica and seeing it change, the last time I saw and played Poptropica was the Survival and Virus Hunter Islands (or just the ones I remember the most) Funny enough, I never saw the rest of the Survival one until I watched your vid, because 3rd one and onwards was locked (I was still young, didn't try to think of a way to get past that very much and I definitely lost my first account LOL)
god i remember replaying so many of the first islands halfway because i would always forget my account info immediately i loved just fucking around in the time travel one and the greek one
I was always a fan of mythology, hint my pfp. The mythology island was always up my ally. I distinctly remember always messing up on the flute part even though it seems to east now haha.
Oh, man. Skullduggery island was my SHIT. I used to spend hours just sailing around the islands, blasting monsters and enemy ships with cannonballs. I really felt like a true sailor lol. I miss it so much😢
This video is like nostalgia central! I used to play Poptropica all the time when I was younger, and I still do sometimes now. I have flashpoint downloaded on my computer so I can play the old islands. Thank you for making this video, I love it ❤️👍
this unlocked memories buried deep within me ;___; my first exp w poptropica was during math class in kindergarten. we were supposed to be playing math games but poptropica was an ad on the website and being so young i thought it was just another math game. clicked on it and ended up playing that instead
@@KrishMortyJunior Yeah I remembered the legendary sword island, Played it once and never seen it again
i'm genuenly confused, why do you keep saying hoowey in the wild west island, i expected yeee haa but, what is that?
Wwp
There are mini games now.
Haha yea basically any sounds scared me even if they weren’t meant to be scary. I’m glad you liked the island! It just wasn’t for me I suppose
Yes! It jumpscared me too! I was playing it later in the evening as a kid and I about jumped out of my chair. Nowadays lots of islands have soundtracks, but there really weren’t that many that even had sound clips back in the day.
Oh god, how did I forget about that? 😅
"Looking for something?"
GOD 😭 i had a mini panic attack because of that
This is insane. Poptropica was definitely a STAPLE in the computer lab. I think the last island that I remember playing was the superhero island? I feel like I “aged out” of the love of it. My favorite island was the super spy one too!
The spy one was amazing!
My favorite had to have been the time travel one and I'm not too sure why it was
I lov
I loved time travel and cryptids most.
I loved poptropica so much that I don’t think I’ll ever age out of it 😭 I get the urge to play it at least once a year
mythology island is always my favorite, when you actually care about greek mythology and can notice the references, same with the astro knights and the arthurian references... poptropica is super fun with reinventing existing stories
also i genuinely fucking hate shrink ray island and i remember how much i hated having to try to escape and i spent several hours on it by just going to the shop and procrastinating😭
Also the fact that Zeus is THE BAD GUY FOR ONCE which is true for the large majority of the mythos, it was a nice change of pace.
This opinion is correct
I was with you 100% until you started slandering Shrink Ray. Honestly skill issue, Shrink Ray is easy A tier
Even though I never beat it Shrink Ray is a definite classic. I can definitely understand your frustration tho, cuz I somehow softlocked myself so that I couldn't even return to the blimp and got stuck for hours.
I loved shrink ray even though I would always use to have to get my dad to help me when n got stuck on it 😂
The Cryptid Island terrified me as a kid because of the Jersey Devil. When it appeared, I screamed and force quit the game. I was absolutely convinced that the Jersey Devil was going to be outside my bedroom window despite me living in Arizona. I was traumatized!
SAME but i was in Florida and ended up moving to NJ 💀
YES! omg and then it didn't save my progress somehow so I had to go through it again later lol.
I got so scared by it in the window I had nightmares for years! It was so terrifying for younger me that I didn't even play the game for weeks.
HELP SAME except i LIVED in nj at the time so i did not sleep for weeks
LMAOO I totally empathize. I replayed it last year and it still terrified me 7 years later.
I remember never progressing past Super Power Island because once my character could fly I thought what more could I want, and starting the next island without the power made me upset so I’d never leave.
Haha that’s funny
I literally did the same exact thing, i came here to comment that!
Thought I was the only one who played the super power island and just stopped playing
We all tried that. Though I never made it to the fly part of the island because of how hard defeating the speedy guy was.
Thats a crazy cool story
The Marie Curie puzzle on shrink ray island can be found by turning on the hot water in the bathroom; the code’s written on the steamed mirror. Years later I still haven’t forgotten the absurd difficulty of that island..
I remember I figured it out because I got an ad before a thinknoodles video that said a good way to protect a password is with numbers and my kid brain didn’t understand it was an ad and tried it out
Shrink Ray island was so hard to me I legitimately stopped playing poptropica in the middle of it and have accidentally never played again
i played poptropica for a span of several years as a kid but was never able to beat shrink ray so i’m glad i’m not the only one who thought it was hard af.
I remember loving the island lol
That island taught me who this lady was.
I believe survival island is based on the story "The Most Dangerous Game". I think its an awesome concept for a poptropica island and im pleasantly suprised they went for it
definitely is
we had to read "The Most Dangerous Game" for English class in high school
Interesting to note about poptropolis games: it was a special island in that it wasn't always available to play. It would "rise from the sea" for a short amount of time before "returning to the depths" I think it was supposed to be a once a year thing. but yeah
the poptropica games, it was supposed to be like the olympics i think
I believe it only disappeared and re-appeared once
Yeah I remember part of the appeal being that it was limited-time. I don’t remember when it was made a mainstay.
I remember there being a Froot Loops tie in promotion with special in-game item that you could only get for around a couple weeks some time in 2007 or 2008
@@ABSolom39oh gosh yes!! I remember that too
Poptropica will always have a special place in my heart. I still occasionally use the account I created when I was 7 years old. I especially remember how nearly all of the islands were too difficult for me to understand so I’d literally just watch Thinknoodles walkthroughs for every single island 😭😂
Thinknoodles walkthroughs were the best!!
Yeah, the game they released on Steam was a letdown, was not worth the 20 dollars, didnt even have Cryptid Island
@@yuvale6306 Yeah last I played it which was almost two months ago there's nothing new about it, no new islands, no old islands returning, they are re-releasing islands that didn't need to be re-released and were available when flash died
Ex: The episode islands like Poptropicon, Survival, Arabian nights.
Skullduggery Island was one where younger me was so proud of defeating the final boss using only the second best ship rather than the full best ship.
It just felt so cool that the boss wasn't restricted to having the best gear, and it allowed you to challenge yourself by being more tiny.
You will never.
It was like the 1st island with an RPG element to it
Nothing made me happer than getting the sea monsters to destroy themselves or each other and then collecting the loot they left behind.
I loved Skullduggery Island because it can teach kids about economics without them realizing it
@@Chumpal You're wrong. It's entirely possible to beat the final boss without the Phoenix.
time tangled was my absolute favorite. was shocked by how many others i remembered playing once they were described
We opened the vault today
Easily the best
Haha that’s awesome, I really love seeing other peoples stories about the game! And I’m happy you liked the video!
I MISS SPY ISLAND!
But the ones that I really miss are Early Poptropica, 24 Carrot Island, Time Tangled island, Super power island, and Shark Tooth Island…
According to the devs they do plan on remaking the OG in the new script, but it will take a very long time.
@@Jake.MillerI was horribly upset when Nabooti island was locked with membership. It was my childhood favorite
@@ShellySwirlI could’ve swore last time I checked they had those islands you mentioned back on it
It’s so crazy to see how many people enjoyed this game back in the day. It was such an amazing experience we didn’t even realize we were all sharing. I’m so glad you’re giving it the recognition it deserves. I’d love to see you talk about some of the extra islands(?) like Legendary Swords, that was always my favorite as a kid🙏
& Realms
Seeing the Jersey Devil jumpscare for the first time was SO SCARY as a kid I’m still traumatized
Haha I still can’t believe that part
SAME HERE THOUGH!!! 💀💀
SEEING IT IN THE WINDOW!! ACK!! FREAKING SCARRED! 😂😭
i'm glad i'm not the only one who was terrified by that thing as a kid lol. probably didn't help that i played a lot of the levels at night but i used to have nightmares about that damn jersey devil
it scared me so bad that I would cry if the windows in my house weren’t shuttered at night 😭 my parents banned from poptropica for a few weeks LOL
@@skyboxAngel OMG I HAD NIGHTMARES ABOUT IT TOO!! I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER NOW THAT I KNOW I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE! 😂😂💀💀
I think counterfeit island in particular really pushed me towards researching and appreciating art
Same here lol
Broo I never knew my account information always had to make a new one 😭
same lmfao I couldn’t remember shit as a kid, I would even write it down and hide it and even that would go missing😭😭
The Cryptids Island was my favorite. As someone who’s into mythical creatures, that one was right up my alley back in the day.
Yea I wasn’t even into them that much but definitely loved the island as a kid
I loved that one too but the Jersey Devil scared me so bad as a young kid my mom banned me from Poptropica for a week 😭
@@procrastinatorprofessional1035 lmaooo that part scared me too 😭
@@procrastinatorprofessional1035 that was literally one of the scariest things to me as a child lol
@@procrastinatorprofessional1035I still remember that jumpscare😭
I was OBSESSED with poptropica as a kid. Sad it went downhill - but we can still always treasure the icons forever
I’ve been scrolling trying to see if someone would bring up the most dangerous game I immediately thought that when he started explaining that island, def was based on it
Yeah I had to read that story too. It reminded me of Survival island a lot
poptropica improved my english so much as a non-fluent child. i distinctly remember struggling with islands that were more text heavy, up until i became more proficient and as a result, much more immersed. this made every replay doubly satisfying. i'm so happy i got to experience it and will always remember it fondly. thanks for this video 💌
Ahhh you forgot Haunted House mini island. It was an item available in the store and you go to the island through the island. It was super short (comparable to the early islands) but I remember it being one of my faves
I loved haunted house!!!!
There were actually several of those types of things. Legendary Sword, Dr. Hare's Lab, Earth Day, and the Blimp Adventure. It'd be unfair to compare them to the full-on islands tho
@@TMS-Oddbot Dr Hare’s was my favorite of those, not because of the gameplay, but because you could glitch flight from superpower island into working there
im so happy that someone remembers this omg
Thank you for commenting about it! It was my favorite island as a kid and I'm so sad it wasn't included here.
haha i’d do the same thing!!
That was my favorite island too!
i remember beating reality tv 3 tomes solely because the mini games were SO FUN to replay and learn how to master. 10/10 island
Looks like we had a pretty similar top tier list! There are just way too many iconic ones haha
Wild West, mythology..All of them😂 I love them
All great islands!!
Cryptids, Wild West, and Twisted Thicket are such fond memories, easily my FAVORITE three. They were just so fun and involved.
As a reassurance, I watched the whole thing. This was my childhood and it was really cool that you took the effort to document it all. Thanks man.
I really appreciate that! Thank you!
Facts he documented my whole childhood… countless of hours mothing on my moms computer compiled into a simple hour 🫡
Well I wouldn’t say SIMPLE but
Justice for Ghost Story Island.
That island gets extra points in my book just because of that 😂
That’s pretty funny, I really didn’t know it was based on anything! What’s the short story, do you remember?
Ohhh do you mean “the most dangerous game”?
@@Jake.Miller yes!
@@Jake.Miller I couldn’t remember what it was called 😂 but I’m pretty sure that was at least a good part of the inspiration
Yes the villain is based on that for sure
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I was pretty surprised by the changes too but I’m glad the old ones are still great!
Time tangled Island
I do wonder now how moving through time also moved you through all these very disperse lands lol, was it like a tardis?
This video deserves so many more views 😭Poptropica was literally my whole childhood and it sucks to see how far it’s fallen 😔
couldn't agree more! (on both subjects haha)
Thank you!! That makes me happy! Maybe I’ll review the sword one and the others you can buy!
This is a trip down memory lane. I remember being scared as hell of Cryptid Island as a kid. Especially the Jersey Devil part.
The zombie island scared me qhen I was younger.
My most profound memory of poptropica is the cryptid map and when you go to find the Jersey Devil. As a kid, it literally scared me so bad I quit the game and never went back to that island until I was older.
YES. I vividly remember playing it on my family computer in the dark and was too scared to exit the house cause I thought it'd chase after me lol
thank you so much for making this video!! poptropica was such an important part of my childhood and i loved hearing what you had to say about each island
I always love seeing comments like this. Thanks so much!
Skullduggery was ROBBED, it was always my favorite! Fantastic video, hit me right in the childhood!
Haha it got A that’s hardly being robbed. Anyways I’m glad you enjoyed it!
@@Jake.Miller I'm joking haha but I do think it deserved an S, especially compared to some of the later A's!
I second this person’s claim. I played that island for hours, even after beating it.
oh my god the wave of nostalgia that hit me as soon as i saw the footage was unbelievable. so many hours of my childhood were sunken into this game.
hm. might download flashpoint and start a new playthrough at this point.
Justice for shrink ray island, definitely started up the nostalgia
I love that island
And cryptids!
Spy was my first island i played like in 2008. I remember getting my ass whooped at the docks before i discovered the camouflage suit. Good times.
Omg that magic tree house water dragon fight was impossible! One of the few I couldn’t beat as a kid. Loving this nostalgia trip!
@@inklypse4248 honestly ya, I liked the violin part.
I wonder if that’s the inspiration for that game or just a coincidence honestly wish I could remember the name of the story. also great video I’m glad people are talking about the poptropica again I still occasionally log into my old account from when I was a kid so this was nice to see
It’s called the most dangerous game, and yea there was definite inspiration. I’m happy you liked it! And it’s cool you still got the old account
I still have the same account from I think around when they added Zomberry Island, but I had already been playing without an account since 2008
Despite my lack of knowledge in English when I was little, I still manage to enjoy playing Poptropica and even accomplish some missions like the ones from Super Heroes, Time Tangled and Early Poptropica and even half of the iconic Astro Knights.
I also love wild west settings lol, never played past Steamworks though so idk its quality
They ruined the greek mythology island in the update aswell, scaling down the difficulty by so much that its not even fun to play.
Haha I don’t blame you I got lost very easily as well playing it this time
Oh the nostalgia I’m getting from watching this.
This was super enjoyable to watch! I remember loving cryptid island, mythology island, and shrink Ray island growing up
Sameee
I LOVED shrink ray island as a kid. Everytime I see Morse code I think of this island.
i just randomly stumbled upon this video and my love for poptropica had been reignited!! thank u for bringing me back to the simpler times where my biggest concern was beating every level to get a poptropica membership😭😭
Needless to say, I’m subscribed.
fr, I played through pelican rock so many times trying to escape faster each time lmao
i remember being so pissed when i found out that things from one island don't carry over to the others, like the jetpack or the flying ability
This game is so nostalgic to me, I love seeing it through someone else’s eyes! My favorite was mystery train, I’m inspired to replay it!
A lot of people seem to love that one! I'd definitely recommend downloading flashpoint and playing it again!
Thats my 2nd fave island :) Always a fave of mine
You know what's crazy? I remember exactly when I started playing Poptropica because Red Dragon had just come out and I literally cried because those kids were stuck in Japan and I couldn't save them because I wasn't a member lmaooooo
also, the vibes of cryptids, counterfeit and ghost story island are UNMATCHED. my favourite islands then and now!!!
Nostalgia has definitely clouded my vision, because Twisted Thicket has always been my favorite... but I haven't played in FOREVER! So it being in D tier definitely shocked me for realsies
yeah same! It almost makes me wonder if whatever version he played had stuff cut out.
When I played Poptropica, there were like 5 islands. Imagaine My surprise when I revisited a few years later. And actually, when I played, they didn't even have that cosmetics shop. Best you could do was copy items from other characters. It was HUGE when they added that shop.
I loved 24 carrot island because you can make a drink in the diner that let you change your hair color LOL
Ahh I remember the day Astro Knights came out. Me and my sister were counting down the days. All the crazy new features like building your own ship and going into space blew our minds. Thanks for the nostalgia!
Honestly shocked this doesn't have more views... great video and I loved getting to relive the old islands watching you play!
Thanks! I’m hoping this comment will be outdated someday when it finally gets a ton of views haha
I’m so happy someone finally ranked all the islands recently, there’s not many poptropica videos now
Thank you for this video! Poptropica was my LIFE as a kid, and I'm so happy to see other people still thinking about it too! I really enjoyed revisiting all the old islands with you (Even if our opinions on some of them differ lol)
You’re welcome! Glad to see others love it as much as I do
The Thinknoodles reference is so real I used to watch those all the time
Virus Hunter, Mocktropica, and Zomberry were some of my favorites from when I played!
Thank you! I can definitely see why those are your favorites, they just aren’t my thing. Thanks for checking out the video either way!
Zomberry freaked me out as a kid… never got to finish it
This video was phenomenal and so thorough!
TT was probably the more darker islands because of that.
I loved this whole video, thank you for making it! Obviously there are a couple rankings I like more than you did, and a couple I like less, but I’m just glad to see such a cool and well thought out video on poptropica after the game has existed for so long. I feel the sudden need to go download and play all the old islands now.
Haha I know I wanna play the first ones again too even though I just did it. Thanks so much!
Some of the freakiest moments in these games was when they were clearly experimenting with using sound; the constant silence being broken by the LOUD crashes or the tiny whispers was so jarring I would flip my bean every time
I loved Poptropica so much growing up, so finding a video about ALL of the islands was like striking gold! Loved this list so much !!!
what an amazing time back in those days, a bunch of the older islands I loved due to nostalgia and how open ended they seemed (at least in comparison to some of the more recent ones) sure some of the stories were simple but it was still fun to play, there might have been no sound but by that point we were so used to it that when sound came into the game we didn't care all that much because it doesn't add much and the gameplay and story made up for the lack of sound.
I think if the island was expanded upon more, add some more stuff to do and whatnot, it could really be its own game.
spy island: decoding messages, using cool gadgets, saving poptropica from going bald, only the 6th island and it has a lot of stuff in it.
counterfeit island: the setting, the story, stopping an art thief by figuring out clues and not to mention travelling to a different island as a part of this island.
cryptids island: the idea its self is amazing, plenty of mystery and exploration to be had in this island all for you to figure out. plenty of places to go, plenty of cryptids to see, and you can do a lot on this island.
survival island: an actual survival situation going through various phases of the journey makes you feel as if you were there and is actually challenging at times. probably the only episodic island that does it perfectly (but arabian nights isn't bad)
then again, my opinions aren't facts and you may have a completely different list than I do but I am a big setting and theme person and if a theme/setting is good then I will like it naturally unless the gameplay or story wasn't to my liking. in conclusion, I have heavy nostalgia for this game as a whole (except for the newer islands either because I haven't played them or not enough time has passed for me to have nostalgia) and I am glad somebody went out of their way to rank all of the islands like you did. a lot to read I know but I was never good at explaining things in a single sentence so instead you get this.
looks like we had a pretty similar list! I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on the game. I'm especially glad you also went out of your way to replay those old islands! I'm sure you'd agree it was worth it.
i can see that!
"Doomed Island" where you visit slices of previous islands in a doomsday scenario. gather various stuff to make the maguffin, including puzzles specifically focused one using items from one island in another
Would’ve made for an AMAZING island
It's 2023 and I feel so old watching you play through Poptropica and seeing it change, the last time I saw and played Poptropica was the Survival and Virus Hunter Islands (or just the ones I remember the most)
Funny enough, I never saw the rest of the Survival one until I watched your vid, because 3rd one and onwards was locked (I was still young, didn't try to think of a way to get past that very much and I definitely lost my first account LOL)
Haha yea I felt old playing those new ones as well. I’m glad you got to see the rest of survival, it was honestly really good!
god i remember replaying so many of the first islands halfway because i would always forget my account info immediately
i loved just fucking around in the time travel one and the greek one
I was always a fan of mythology, hint my pfp. The mythology island was always up my ally. I distinctly remember always messing up on the flute part even though it seems to east now haha.
Haha the flute does require some memorizing. Yeah it is pretty cool I wish I liked mythology more because they did a pretty amazing job with it
