My TH-cam hasn't been recommending or showing Kenshi content for ages. To see Kenshi 2 news is like a flashbang lol. Awesome to see them still working, as well as seeing your channel growing as well.
The World Partition system works by storing your world in a single persistent Level file and subdividing the space into streamable grid cells using a configurable runtime grid. These cells are loaded and unloaded at runtime by the presence of streaming sources, such as the player. If you are in the Borderlands, your PC will act as if the Swamp or other regions are not fully active. This also means that we might still have a short in world loading sequence, but this will happen only when you travers from one region to another region. unlike the current engine, which has a leading screen for each 200m. If the region assets are few, there might not be a loading sequence.
The largest map that can be realistically created in Unreal Engine 5 depends on a number of factors, including hardware, detail, and gameplay. The default max world size is 20km, but World Composition and Large World Coordinates can be used to increase the size. You could also import lanscapes created in image editors and force the engine to accept it. The actual HARD-CAP is very big.
Overall, Unreal's performance is amazing compared to Ogre. The new nanite systems turns geometrical drawing into a low-performance thing. We used to have LOD sprits and models that changed among themselves as the camera moved away or towards. This meant that the assets would have to be deleated (or hidden) and then new assets would have to be loaded in their place. It wasn't about RAM memory usage but how the CPU worked with that memory. There were too many tasks thrown at the poor thing! I have 64 GB or RAM and it still took time to load assets. The nanite system lets the PC calculate how many Poligons there needs to be. You just give the engine one single asset with max poligons and it takes some away as you move the camera. This means that you will also have a smaller asset library that you need to create, since you only need one - and not 5-15 versions. This means that there will be less work for the artists. BAD That one asset, that you will have, will be gigantic in terms of ROM memory(HDD and SSD). Sometimes, the file size will be bigger than the 5 assets you used to use when using the old LOD system. GOOD If Kenshi was made on Unreal, then it would have run 200% better than it currently does. Nanites make Unreal games run with a 20% performance increase.
This is a greate move for a small 75 people company like Lo-fi games. Why invest 30-40% of your money on an engine that can't even compeat with Unreal when you can pay Unreal 10% of your winnings.
On the case of Lumen, performance is really bad. We used to either have shadows pre-baked into scenes or rely on some a low qually, and fuzzy, ligthing system. It saved on performance. The Lumen system will reduce performance by 60-70%. On the up-side, you can adjust the quallity. But it's still gonna be a heavy drop in performance.
Personally I don’t care if they ever give me a drop date. Hunt has never really been great at estimating it anyways. I just want to know Lo-Fi is still working. Kenshi 1 is amazing. I’ll wait for as long as it takes to finish 2.

Damnnn they are indeed going to use Unreal engine 5...Wich is perfect for Kenshi mainly that nanite system. The main thing this will do is that the creators can create incredible SCALE while mainting detail. Kenshi 1 already had incredible scale of the world you rarely see. When you standing on top of a hill or even a mountain in kenshi and you zoom in you feel it. I hope the devs take their sweet time for this game. Kenshi 2 can possibly be a very very special game that does something that no other game has done before.

@@HeroInHisHeadi got it this year too. Only got like 150 hours so far but its my favorite game in a long time. Definitely up there with wc3 and elden ring. So much potential to become the best game of all time.

I really hope that Kenshi 2 will have either the capacity for or inbuilt settings for first and third person camera. 360 camera is nice, and similar to third person, but something fixed to the back of the head of your unit, and the first person POV of your unit would make Kenshi extremely immersive
I can’t see first person happening with the higher level complicated turning sword swinging moves, this isn’t really a first person game. Seems like more of a mod thing bc of how janky it would be
I'd say that "actually playable" is more something along the lines of having the basic UI and controls added, along with having the basic physics in place. Depending on the game, that can happen really early in development, like single digit percent of completion sometimes. It's still a good sign, but don't look into it too much. I'm still really hyped for the game though.
Excited for this game. Going to be saving my extra cash to build an OMEGA rig that will handle it flawlessly. Play it on something like a 75" 8k tv as well 😅
14:70 I know Boats would be really cool. And I definitely look forward to seeing if thats something we're gonna get. However, my concern is other methods of transportation, or lack thereof. Kenshi has PLENTY of Animals that could be turned into Mounts. Hell, imagine a Leviathan as a Mobile Base and that should give you an Idea of what I'm thinking of. Not talking like a Walking Castle, more like a raggedy, thrown together, mobile home. Another thing Kenshi 1 really lacked on IMO, was Faction-Individual Interactions. For Example, the Okranites are a Zealous, Fierce, and Backwards thinking Faction that supposedly enforces the word of Okran. Yet they don't really interact with anyone on an Individual level, they only act as a Group and usually only for Combat or gathering Slaves. They "speak" programmed lines, but little else. I would like to see that expanded by seeing such Factions have more "Life" to them or at least acting less Robotic. They're supposed to be Human, and that means they're supposed to act like it. Not asking for the impossible, but just would like that improved. Also, Caravans or Emissaries of certain Factions. And seeing them travel the World of Kenshi more. And if attacked, and defeated, would like to see that reflected with a Higher Military Presence as well as a rise in Cost of Economics. That would certainly add to the Realism. Last thing I'll add for now, AI needs to be expanded and improved based off Stats, Number of Allied AIs, Minimum of Situational Awareness, and Sensible Reactions. For example, A group of Starving Bandits approaches a small outpost. With a Lone Man working the area. The Bandits outnumber the Man 8-1, so they threaten and then attack said Man. Turns out said Man is much more skilled and tougher than they thought. And is tearing through them. I would like it in Kenshi 2 if at this point the AI would recognize this, and react accordingly. And here's an alternative we all see far too often in Kenshi, a different group walks up out of nowhere and starts attacking the Lone Man also. I would much prefer the more Realistic Reaction of if they instead started attacking everyone outside their group instead of targeting the same person the 1st group did. Very small things in reality, but would definitely add so much. Edit: Oh, and Animation needs a COMPLETE Overhaul. As well as some VFX, like Swordfights with Mods make-up for a lot of the Gaps the Original Kenshi left. But I'm hoping in Kenshi 2, those Gaps will be filled without Mods, leaving those to build upon them. Some Examples: Whilst Walking/Running according to Terrain does for the most part work, if you look closely with the Free Camera, you can see they still float a bit. Would like that resolved. Also, when Hand-to-Hand combat happens, I would like to see the Models actually Connect and Interact. Like seeing someone catch a Punch in their Hand and deflect it. (Just as an example, I know thats probably too much). As well as seeing Animations according to Skill Level being Expanded on as well. But I also want to see Idle Animations, Everyday Animations such as picking something up by bending over and grabbing it, even if it disappears. Or seeing someone dip their hands into a puddle of water and bringing the Water to their mouthes and seeing the Water disappear. Or seeing a Bartender actually fill a Persons Cup. Those kinds of Animations would add significant Life to the game.
@@HeroInHisHead Plenty of projects didn't stand the test of time, I hope Kenshi will. STALKER, the first one, didn't either Such a great concept, but we have no modern equivalent to it still
I hope they don't do what Wildcard did when it moved ARK to Unreal. I don't care about visuals, rather have a game that runs very well, not just well but VERY well. Unreal is getting more scorn these days as TOO EASY to develop for so companies make pretty crappy games on it.
Hundreds of hours on kenshi, a broken mouse switch is a witness of overwhelming clicks to exploit thievery power leveling. At this point I'll buy anything they would offer me.
Hundreds? I have over 1700 hours and I know most of the game's problems. Kenshi still has a ton of bugs, glitches, imbalances, ... There is no real economy; you can't capture and control cities; you need mods to increase your squad size above 30; you can't play the game smoothly without crashes unless you have a 3060 pc. Yes, you need to "exploit" glitches (which may even be intentional) in order to play this game, making the originally designed normal way to play the game meaningless. If you play the game without cheating or cheesing, this game is a crazy grind worse than Pal World. The AI is pretty silly and pathfinding is pathetic. Some basic design is flawed. Why would anyone build a wall to avoid a fight when the only way to gain attack xp is through fighting? Thievery is a joke. The ONLY use of thievery is to stripe some NPCs like Phoenix and Seta to trigger some events, like the War of God. Or you can steal some crazy weapons early on to play solo by cheating. Who wants to play a game with a community who wants to play the game by cheating and cheesing? LOL
@@trumplostlol3007 That's a lot to say for someone who wasted "thousands" of hours of their lives. Me? I enjoyed my "hundreds" of hours, thank you. Yes the game is an imperfect, glitchy mess, but it's still fun to play. Again, you got more than your money's worth from those 1700 hours, So I don't know why you complain so much. It sounds like you got addicted to smoking, complaining about the sore throat you get every morning, but keep smoking nonetheless.
@@Savirezz Watch the youtube video about the final days of a philosopher who wrote many books about the meaning of life. In the end he said ""life really is not very meaningful" contrary to what he wrote in his books. And he admitted it. He also said, he regretted not to spend his time just to look at the nature all around him. I spent 3 years playing an online war game after my passed away in a traffic accident. 1000 hours mean nothing to me. I still remember my happiest days when I got home after school doing nothing but watching the clouds in the sky, the birds hiding in the trees, and the people walking around on the streets. LOL Games can improve over time ONLY if there are people who point out their problems and mistakes which more often than not are very EASY to fix. Just because you don't mind or even enjoy other people lying to you, it doesn't mean everyone else should accept lies. Don't you think? And no I do not cheat or cheese in Kenshi. Be honest to yourself.
Im pretty sure thats what it is. I think there will be more than just world state triggers. There can be specific character triggers and other triggers
World Partition is simply a system for dynamically loading and unloading assets (literally anything in the game world) in an open world level. Its not anything super special other than the fact that its supported by Epic Games and Lo-fi can use it rather than developing their own solution
Ok so you noticed the first [REDACTED] and speculated that it was about boats. It is pretty safe to say from what we have been told that boats will be in K2. So why redact that? You didn't talk about the second [redacted] at all, and that is the interesting one. So CT says "gotta be exploring our new world and [redacted] without a doubt". In K1 you don't need a boat. Ok it would be quicker to get to raptor island or armor king with a boat, but why would you add a boat just for that? But if you were going to explore the new world and [redacted] what would that be and could it be a reason for a boat? Is there another land that you need a boat to travel to? That is what it sounds like to me.
Couple of things on this. As for "why would you need boats" I'd recommend checking my video on the Cannibals or my short on the Grid as well. In short the water levels in K2 will be MUCH higher and many parts of the continent will be inaccessible unless by boat as they will be separated by vast channels of water. Now it hasn't been officially confirmed to be boat's so that's why we still believe it's that. However for the sake of the argument which I planned on also talking about in another video this month. It may not be JUST boats. But also a cave system.
Also keep in mind that it is confirmed that the map will be larger, with new lands to explore. Chris confirmed as much in his AMA several years ago now. So new lands + higher water level = good conditions for naval gameplay.
To be honest I fucking hate the unreal engine, Lo-Fi games could come out tomorrow and say kenshi 2 is coming out on Roblox and I'd still buy it. Good games have little to do with the engine they are built upon. Its just a vast majority of games made on unreal engine tend to be soulless, that and i have a dislike for epic games.
Agree fully about the engine being soulless, but frankly am more concerned that the expanding development team is what will suck the soul out of the game. With these passion projects, when it becomes a business with a lot of people just doing work it becomes endless feature creep and very little substance
@@George_Melons Keep in mind that the 33 people are in a huge variety of roles. Most of them are not programmers, but rather artists, translators, composers, writers, etc. So they've gone from a team of 4 people wearing a few different hats each, to several small teams of 2-5 people working on their specific areas of the game. Rather than just making do with what they have, or having someone do a job they aren't suited for, they're hiring new people to cover what they're missing.
I hope you're correct, as generally these types of upscaled passion projects cease to be just that. I think while management is key, it's also important the people they are hiring care about the content and are able to at least somewhat replicate, or even better, add to the game. It's been far too common to see the opposite these days@@Shidan174
@@HeroInHisHead Actually I didn't want to know the exact date, but rather the approximate release. Will it be 2024 or probably 2-5 years? But of course they should take they time until they are really satisfied with they game.
@Muu-Mei Borderlands 3, Batman Arkham City, Mass Effect, Jedi Fallen Order, Sea of Theives, Cyberpunk (rough release state but that wasn't the engine that was the dev team not finishing the game. Works good now), Bioshock, Lord's of the Fallen, Remnant 2, Hellblade, Hogwarts Legacy and to a much less fully open world extent, PubG, Kingdom Hearts 3, Fortnite, the list goes on. Point is it can be done, just gotta have a dev team willing to put the work in to make it happen and I really feel lofi is one of those teams. They actually care about the product and the players, not the customers, the players. Just gotta have some faith.
I listened to 2 minutes of this video. You had that much humming and aying about nonsense, I completely destroyed any faith in the game. Literally no one cares about what's going on with what department. My lord, "it's ready, when it's ready" 30-minute video that could have been summarised in a breath. Now don't take this comment as negative, give me the baby, not the labour pains.
not everything. you would not get killed by starving bandits due to them being weak as well and having blunt weapons. so the usual tactic is to wear heavy armor and get beaten up by starving bandits numerous times until you get toughness very high. after you get toughness very high game gets easy. you can technically with enough grinding make a character so strong that he can solo the entire game. without need of recruiting more characters.

I really hope Kenshi 2 is going to happen and launch.
I mean it's gonna happen. It's just a matter of when
@@HeroInHisHead Plenty of projects didn't stand the test of time, I hope Kenshi will.
STALKER, the first one, didn't either
Such a great concept, but we have no modern equivalent to it still
Finally moving cape's!
I hope they don't do what Wildcard did when it moved ARK to Unreal. I don't care about visuals, rather have a game that runs very well, not just well but VERY well. Unreal is getting more scorn these days as TOO EASY to develop for so companies make pretty crappy games on it.
If people are worried about mods on kenshi 2 then idk if they have ever seen the codebase of ogre. Spaghetti central
Yeah i understand why they arent showing us too much stuff now 🧡
Hopefully we'll get some sick screenshots by 2026
the camera in Kenshi 1 allows me to play, i cannot handle 1st person and wobbly cams. Hopefully it can do the same in 2
I wonder if [Redacted] is some kind of intricate questing system
That would definitely be interesting
Im pretty sure thats what it is. I think there will be more than just world state triggers. There can be specific character triggers and other triggers
World Partition is simply a system for dynamically loading and unloading assets (literally anything in the game world) in an open world level. Its not anything super special other than the fact that its supported by Epic Games and Lo-fi can use it rather than developing their own solution
Interesting. I appreciate someone answering my request for a spoon feeding lol.
As long as i can still play as a skeleton im all in
If I die until the game releases I wanna play from haven
(i am healthy 100% in a "stable" country)
The grid used to be all water and so did a lot of the cannibal plains so the boat makes sense. Imagine swimming the length of the ocean north to south
Also keep in mind that it is confirmed that the map will be larger, with new lands to explore. Chris confirmed as much in his AMA several years ago now. So new lands + higher water level = good conditions for naval gameplay.
kenshi 2 before the fall of the third empire
Do we really need a sequel? I think a graphic can be updated ig but everything else is fine
Do we even need Kenshi 2? #kenshi #lore #kenshi2 #gaming #indiegame #shorts
I'm going to guess late 2026-mid 2027 will be EA
They should do kenshi 2 with first person. like 7 days to die but in the kenshi universe. would be amazing
hell nah
@@TexYMatt98 Ohhh yeaa baby
RELEASE THE DAMN GAME
thanks
Now seriously, when is it finally coming? takes so long
@unbekannt2898 all in the pursuit of excellence my friend. We are all ansy but rest assured, it's coming and it will be worth the wait.
@@HeroInHisHead Actually I didn't want to know the exact date, but rather the approximate release.
Will it be 2024 or probably 2-5 years?
But of course they should take they time until they are really satisfied with they game.
There's was a whole lot of nothing said in this video.
PLEASE HAVE MULTIPLAYER.
cant wait for the modding community to jerry rig some sort of kenshi 2 multiplayer together.
Oh my god
Yet to see an open world game use unreal and come out over 40 FPS.
Just gotta have some faith.
how are they even profitable is the real question
The first game was a solo dev.
The team stayed small after the gane had financial success.
I don’t get it.
I want you to have my baby, troglodyte. Please.
I'm doing for a beta of the game at least
Sadly there probably isn't going to be a Kenshi 2 Beta as of right now. #kenshi #kenshi2 #shorts
at this speed the devs will prob die before Kenshi 2 is even halfway done
I don't care about updates. Just do the work and release it so we can play it.
ive tried to play this but just cant get past the beginning how weak the character is. Gets killed by everything.
not everything.
you would not get killed by starving bandits due to them being weak as well and having blunt weapons.
so the usual tactic is to wear heavy armor and get beaten up by starving bandits numerous times until you get toughness very high.
after you get toughness very high game gets easy.
you can technically with enough grinding make a character so strong that he can solo the entire game.
without need of recruiting more characters.
