- Using the free, open source software Tahoma2D we will take a static, PNG image of Santa and make it into an animated green screen video of him waving.

Can you add a background image and then just animate your png file ?
Yes, the green screen was just to make the animation more reusable so you could use it in multiple videos. Nothing wrong with placing the background in instead, however
