Pretty pure form of motorsport isn't it ? Just the guy against the track - no bumping, no turning the other guy around , no crying , no blocking , no "he held me up" or "he brake tested me" , no excuses at all really unless you spray the engine out through the exhaust pipe. top stuff ! thanks , tsport100
yeah, you're right. i just love hearing the high-rpm N/A engines rev for that little bit longer before you have to change, while still producing steady power. charged engines also sounds good with the whine coming from the 'charger, but by the time you can hear it you have to change :)
Simply amazing everytime I watch this! My dream Hill Climb project car would be a 1990-92 E30 M3 with this Judd V8 engine! Im seriously considering looking into it!
Yes, this is is used for hill climb time attacks. It was driven by Georg Plasa in 2009, find more about him and the 2010 season and you'll may see it personally live
In case others were wondering about the price too: £75,000 for a Judd V10 5.0L with 750hp or restricted on purpose if you wanna go Le Mans or similar. Thats for a 2nd hand engine, but "rebuilt from scratch to 0 km". But you could probably get one of these for £50,000 if you are lucky. Especially if a racing series changes rules so you can snatch an obsolete engine.
It's as if the car was glued onto the road, NOT even a minor tire slip at all (at least i didn't see that) Awesome video clip and a even more awesome BMW.
Pretty right but It's the gear engagement mechanism that actually makes the difference. The simple dog clutch gear engagement is what facilitates fast changes. The helical or straight cut gears don't matter to the change because thay are all constant mesh gears these days. There are no more sliding mesh setups. The straight cut gears are for strength and also eliminate thrust along the shafts. And yes, they are just like bike boxes - you can easily upchange clutchless on any bike.
George Plasas BMW was always a highlight at the hill climb. The sound of the car can not be captured in the videos so. You have to listen in real this car. :) And yes, the engine is really a Formula 1 engine. It sounds not only so! ;)
not all the time, usually the clutch is just there to take off in 1st gear then the clutch doesn't always have to be used, but it is easier on the box if you tap the clutch on downshifts.
Spoon have engineered engines that can produce BHP @ 9-10k RPMs and they use regular H-shifters. but they only produce 250-300 BHP. shifting time isn't more of a factor the higher the RPMs, shifting time becomes a factor when you have a lot of power and close gears.
I say purest - he say poorest, lets call the whole thing off ! -- la la la da de da That's probably a bit old to mean much to for most youtubers ! He did a hell of a job of it the peak considering that. Still a classic pretty dramatic piece of file too eh? I really enjoyed thisone anyway ! - thanks again for posting it.
A turbocharged motor is good when it comes onto boost. An engine running high boost just keeps pulling and once that boost is reached it feels smooth as silk. Also, most turbocharged engines can handle 8000+ RPM too. With a high revving engine like this, the torque band is fairly narrow and probably optimised for top end. Dont get me wrong, I'd take a Judd V8 over any turbo'd engine. I've been in a 360 Challenge racecar capable of 8500 RPM, yet I still think turbo'd motors are great.
It's clutch-less shifting. Terrible long term, but short term gearbox it doesn't matter. Check it out on Google or just search it here on TH-cam, it can be pretty neat.
is there a similar race V8, which can be purchased for privateer racing? Who else manufactures such engines? Or where is it possible for people to get a hold of such engines? Thanks
well, it will be fun the first stretches.. then its getting quite plain boorin. the most funniest stretches is acctually the smaller curvy roads which has good condition. its love
biegi w górę wrzuca bez użycia sprzęgła natomiast używa przy redukcji widziałem takie rozwiązanie w motocyklach torowych nazywa się to power-shifter ciekawe co Wy o tym sądzicie?
If you enjoy this, suss out any in car footage of bathurst, Australia's(and one of the worlds)best races, 6.25km's up and over a pretty gnarly, twisty hill, sure you'll enjoy.
When it's approaching, it sounds like a Pro Stock car. Those things are crazy; they also tickle 10,000 revs, but their motors are 500 cubic inches (~8.2L) with pushrods. The engines alone cost as much as a ZR1 Corvette, and for that you get the highest volumetric efficiency of any naturally-aspirated engine. Nearly 2hp/L without any forced induction, and only two valves per cylinder! I'd be curious to know how big this engine is and how powerful it is with all those revs.
That sound sends shivers down my spine as he rips through those gears
Why can I only like this once? I want to like it 10 000 000 times. That car is amazing, a soundtrack to take with you to heaven.
the sounds coming out of that thing are unreal. i could listen to that all day.
Still remember this as one of my first hillcilmb videos.
RIP Georg Plasa

R.I.P to george and this amazing M3 :(
It's not an M3. It's a modified 320i. And it still exists.
It was his 1 series that he sadly died in
i watch these videos for the noise. AMAZING!
Flat plane crank v8's sound amazing
One of the greatest ever built along with the rb series jz series and 2.2 inline 5 quattro engine
I could spend hours just listening to the sound of this V10 - truly amazing!!!
the sound of the engine is awesome!!!
R.I.P. to one of the greatest drivers Hillclimb had :(
one of the Best BMW Driver of all time R.I.P Georg Plasa
and the performance, motor, tuning, suspension, computer, roll bar, everything in the interior, and driving skill.
This engine pushes roughly 650 horsepower, it's a Corsworth/Judd 3.4L Formula 1 derived, 4 valve per cyllinder V8
For a man who won the month long Paris-Dakar 4 times in the same cars I'm sure a 10 min blast up a hill was well within his capabilities.

i heard this sound live ... tears in eyes !!! forever georg plasa
This is how a V8's supposed to sound!
Danke Georg. Hoffe es Gibt ein nächstes Leben, in dem Du uns dann wieder so viel Freude bescheren kannst, wie Du es in diesem getan hast. RIP
Wow! Amazing car and great driver too! I love how the sparks fly.
Simply amazing everytime I watch this! My dream Hill Climb project car would be a 1990-92 E30 M3 with this Judd V8 engine! Im seriously considering looking into it!
As much as i love how epic my V8 swapped E36 sounds i still come here from time to time to witness this savage beast. Just unreal
You can get this sound though... for only 80k brand new
That sound is the sound they use for all the racing games.

this sound of the v8 is incredible !!! i can't get enough of this !!!

WooooooW
THIS IS A MAN"S CAR,NO TURBO JUST HIGH RPM!!!
it just sounds so good when it hits your ears......
%100 pure race engine and sound not like those monster turbo craps just for straightlines and youtube figures... Love it!!

Das ist ein geiles Auto.BMW-Sound ist die schönste Musik!!!
this car is the best car in the world !!!! p.s. and what an amazing driver !
@hormigaZ thanks. that is sweet how practical would it be for street use.

E36 coupe is still so good looking car! What year of that competition?

Awesome this E36/Judd sound is fantastic.
What are the basic regulations/rules for Hillclimp cars ?.
DUDE ITS LIKE A F1 CAR!
long time ago. Judd is engine tuner, for example Formula Boss was racing with old F1 cars from 90's 80's and most of them where equip with Judd V8.
traumwagen!
was mir auch gefällt das er in blau-weiss gehalten is.
rock on!
I saw this guy some 3 years ago, and in was way better then on youtube.
man thats one frantic revving engine
as if it wasnt devilish enough it shoots sparks when it corners like a beast
This is the BOMB!!! love this car..wicked fast.
I love how that sound echos through the trees.
intoxicating sound ...... LOVE IT!!!!

that it handles better is by "downforce"of the spoilers in the front bumper and on the rear
kann es sein das die letzten aufnahmen bei dem ibergrennen in heiligenstadt entstanden sind?
so sick. if i won the lotto would go do my shopping in that. drifting around the parking lot
simply amazing... do you have torque or horsepower specs?
sounds like a 70's formula-1 car... o/ really impressive...
From Wikipedia:The DFV was an engine produced by Cosworth originally for Formula One motor racing.
So I was partialy right :)
Thanx for the info

damn video is beyond watched yet i still get a stiffie and chills from this badass beemer.... aaaaaahhhhh i need a beer damnit lol
@kameleus Doubt it would pass the emission test, but you could probably make it legal in some countries. And it would cost a fortune.
my father run in pro modifide (touring cars) champion championship and he use a judd v8 in a subaru wrx 2008 and the power its so great
is there a similar race V8, which can be purchased for privateer racing? Who else manufactures such engines? Or where is it possible for people to get a hold of such engines? Thanks
F1 with bmw body-awesome
@jemboy7777 the sound is completely on, maybe its just your computer or phone
INSANE!!!
Like the Hell on the Hill...
i catch plasa last year we race together but different class and group i hope this year too good driver.
yeah i aslo agree that the audio ddoes not match the video . but whatever it is also a great video
actually it has a F1 engine it's the Judd V8.
They use to race in the old F1 championship.
That v8 sund gives me gooss humps every single time!! I'm lovin it!!
came here to watch the performance.

That's one bad ass transmission. ☺
well, it will be fun the first stretches.. then its getting quite plain boorin. the most funniest stretches is acctually the smaller curvy roads which has good condition. its love
I love the way u shift in these type of cars ahahaha
Simply George going transsonic.
What's a Judd engine doing in a beamer, while Norma's are fitted with beamer engines ?
what a great sounding engine
@jasonwrightbrown that wasnt the question the question was if it would fix YOUR problem of getting late at work =)
beautiful bmw.... best cars ever!!

Awesome. That engine is bespoke? Or uses bmw v8 base?
I love that sound!
Absolutely Stunning!!!.
OMG I saw this engine last year hillclimbing in Slovenia.
They say it has older F1 engine. It also sounds like formula.

i really like to hear the set up on this engine .
ok cool car for sure but the really winner in this video is the road, it's so wide, and smooth, if that a back road I'm going there and hiring a car
it's crazy how fast he's going through the turns
the driver is Trinity K. ! amazing!
@odzadze123 How are their engines compares to a BMW M or Alpina?
@JLPIMPIN1992 its sequential he only uses the clutch to move off
