- Mineplex was once the biggest minecraft server there was. Dominating the minecraft minigame scene, breaking player count records, and forever in the memories of its players. A couple days ago now though, mineplex abruptly shut down. What really went wrong, with the once king of minecraft servers?

I remember coming home everyday in middle school to play mineplex and all types of servers with my friends, now everytime I log into the game it just feels like all multiplayer servers are a husk of their formerselves (except hypixel), and all original and unique servers managed to kill themselves off with terrible forced changes or inside drama, its really sad to see, hopefully hytale can provide us with a new season of fresh minecraft-like servers and projects, to me it just feels like MC multiplayer is only going down unless you are hypixel.

Have you heard of MCC Island? IMO it's the best server out there (not counting Hypixel) with a ton of fun games. It has 1.9+ pvp, but it manages to integrate it seamlessly. Open beta releases this week!
yeah its true theres still a ton of good servers, but the shitty ones outnumber and block them out making it harder to find them sadly.
Hytale is going to flop and kill Hypixel, to be blunt.
RIP Mineplex. I hope everyone enjoyed it while it lasted. I had a good run working on Bedrock stariting in 2020 and I hope those that got to exposure it found it fun.
I played deathrun on it often, bedrock's mineplex had the only good one i've ever played. Thank you for keeping it alive that long.

I only played on mineplex bedrock for the last year nd a half it was around. I dont really play minecraft without friends much but even so i had a suprising ammount of fun on mineplex. Its a shame i wont be able to go back on the server. RIP

People don't really know just how impactful Chiss was. The vision he and Defek had for having games that just were unique and fun. Those kind of games were NEVER seen anywhere else in the space. As a former admin and literal day 1 player I can't tell you how sad it was to leave. I'm so happy to have at least gotten Clans out to that community.
Mineplex was over 10 years of my life, where I started. It deserves so much more.

This video really hits me with a wave of nostalgia. Back in 2014, I used to rush home after school, brimming with excitement, just to dive into the world of Mineplex with my three best friends. We would spend a good 5-6 hours each day immersed in the game, taking turns hosting our gaming sessions at each other's houses. Whether it was conquering Mineplex together or peacefully building in our own Minecraft world, we shared countless unforgettable moments. Ah, those were the days. (And yes, I must admit, there might be a few tears streaming down my face as I write this comment.)

How do used to play egg wars all the time and it was the most fun I’ve ever had because I couldn’t play highpixel I use an Xbox one It was really the closest thing I’ve ever had to bed wars and I loved it😢😓❤ Rip minePlex hopefully we see it again
gyroninja is an absolute legend for being willing to upkeep the server to the very end even while not being paid, really sucks that such a great server was in the hands of wealth-hungry businessmen

Thanks. While it was inconvenient for players that there was no active development going on, not having a server at all is much worse and prevents people from playing at all. The player's deserved to have a server up so I did it regardless of being paid since I was doing all of this for the community even if I may not have been very close with many people.
@@teeveegaming1238 Don't feel too bad for me. Things have worked out for me. Feel bad about how the community lost everything without even a warning. Everything in life is temporary. I had my fun working on and making the games I did, but I have moved on. I didn't lose anything because I can keep the memories of the time I spent doing what I enjoyed.

@@Caroban Let's not forget that MisterEpic is still a TH-camr with over 500K subscribers. These kinda details are usually enough to win children's hearts over or whatever, like the fact he had that server above his own in the server list just makes them think, WOW, this meant SUCH a LOT to him. There's always a reason why a channel like this has a wide audience, whether their videos attract people for details like that and/or other reasons, and this may just be a coincidence or he actually does think this way about this server. What I'm trying to say is to not forget that a TH-camr probably knows all the tricks to manipulate you in ways you wouldn't even realize. No idea how likely this is in MisterEpic's case but I wouldn't be surprised since many channels do these things nowadays.

I was a Mineplex purist myself, but I can agree. That's why I hate this the most. The only other big server is Hypixel, and really, we need _less_ people on Hypixel, and _more_ people exploring smaller servers. Mineplex kept it hunble. Sadge.

This small portion of the video spoke to me on a personal level. I am currently the only moderator and owner of a server of my own that also has thousands of people, and it sucks doing it solo. It made me realize that I couldn’t just brute force my way through moderating it, especially with a big collaboration on the way. So if you could, tell gyroninja I said thank you for saying the words I needed most right now.

Looking back at it, the devs were barely paid anything and the amount of work staff put into the server for free was insane. Very strong community, but I do remember the staff being treated really poorly.

The mineplex hub and gadgets truly were awesome
Coming home from school when I was in elementary was so fun! Hopping on with friends during summer... All of these memories stuck in the past. I wish I could relive those memories again 😢

I remember playing Mineplex since the old days. Seeing it slowly decay really hurt, since I adored it. I played it throughout elementary and middle school.
This is so sad. I was a moderator for mineplex back in 2015-2016. The server was booming and had an amazing community. I’ll always be grateful for the memories and people I met there ❤️

Its baffling how neglected the Champions gamemodes were even though they were probably one of the most popular and unique gamemodes on the the server
the thing i really loved about champions was how a lot of the abilities just felt super fun to use, i got addicted to it for a good period of time because of that lol
I remember trying it a few times and it seemed super fun, but was too unpolished for me to ever get into. I always revisited it hoping it'd improve, only for it to die further and further

It's a shame since it was the original game mode BetterMC had when it merged with Mineplex all those years ago. Dominate, AKA, Champions, was the main selling point, alongside MineKart, initiating the merger. Both were unfortunately abandoned.
Man this hits hard. I remember playing on mineplex with my older brothers all the time. I made a lot of great memories on that server. It’s a shame to see it go.

Thank you for making this video. I was a volunteer staff member for 5 years and was fortunate/unfortunate to be part of the rise and fall of this amazing server. It has been a few years since I left, so it was cool to see some old acquaintances in your video. I’m glad they still found joy in the server, even at its end. Every single volunteer worked on Mineplex because we loved the community. The kindness and passion of the players drove us to continue supporting the server. As staff, the amazing player interactions were the most memorable times. Looking through the comments, I am happy so many people found joy in Mineplex. Thank you all for playing.

It's a money pit. Not sure what you expect.
The owner ran a grooming ring and was investigated by police at one point so I'm not sure how shocking it is. The guy was a nazi who loved teenage girls. Not a shock the people who didn't fit that description never heard from him.
I hope Champions is there because I played over 6k Champions games while the servers were still around.

I also run a minecraft server on google cloud platform.
Its a smp server about 10k visits (new players) per month and there are always 30+ players on line in EU/NA time zone.
I run it with 2 ec2 + 4gb of ram with cloud storage and some other gcp supported stuffs and it costs me about 50 euro per month already but as the business model of minecraft server is pretty hard, i am unable to make money as of now.
But imagining how much mineplex would pay to the big data centre, i can see why they closed it
I remember playing Mineplex many years ago and I noticed the decline over the years as well and it's just sad to see. A Minecraft server should never have to go through something like this.

this shutdown reminds me a lot of another game that had a very similar shutdown process and downright disgraceful sendoff. I feel you and it just reminds me of how angry i was at that game shutting down
I cant remember the date but I use to be Sr Mod for a year or two. (Mod Coord Team under Ishh, along side Bluebettle and Web) So crazy to feel this way about a server, like I haven't played Minecraft in years but had really good memories over the years here
Gyroninja is such a legend. He worked on the Mineplex bedrock server, not for the money he wasn't getting, but for they enjoyment of the playerbase. Whatever he works on next, I hope he has a much better time with it.

I miss the Domination and CTF gamemodes. I loved the class system and the fun counters / strats people could pull
My brother and I used to play this all the time when we were younger, It was most definitely the most memorable gaming experience I've ever had. It was an essential part of my childhood and ill never forget it and im so glad I got to share it with my brother. He's graduating this Wednesday, really is the end of an era.

I remember playing the holiday games such as the Christmas and Halloween ones and having so much fun. Growing up and revisiting the holiday games and seeing the updates broke my heart, the Christmas game went from lobby's of up to 30 players per to only 8 player max, Halloween game was simply gone, and seeing the lobby the same as it was years ago, untouched. It makes me so sad to see a memory of my childhood disappear

I was a moderator on mineplex for a while starting in 2020. It was probably one of the most fun experiences of my life so far. I am honestly so very sad that I will never be able to play it again. I really just want to play mixed arcade one more time :,(

Not someone who played on Mineplex, but I also have experiences with losing online spaces that I was fond of. It's sad, you get to reminisce about all of the fun you've had and all of the friends and memories you've made. All of these things become bittersweet over time, and it leaves you hoping that you will experiences something like it again.
I wasn't emotional when I learned of the shutdown but this video I just... my memories on the server came back, not too many that I truly remember but everything is lost now, I have no recordings no nothing, just vague memories I will never truly get back, even if the server was never really my favorite, I just can never truly forget it, and I'll never forget the memories I do have from it
Mineplex is indeed one of the first MC servers I can remember playing with friends, and one of the first I watched videos on. The ending of this video made me shed tears man, hearing the younger you act like that, just like how I acted back then.

I’m seriously going to miss this server. I can remember some amazing game modes that they had on their server, like dragon escape and dragons. In these, you had to parkour or be lucky to survive the ender dragons flying toward you to knock you off the blocks and make them go flying all over the place. I’m going to deeply miss the server. I played that when I was 13. Looking back now as a 20 year old and knowing that has happened makes me feel so sad. I hope that someday I can get that same feeling I got in Minecraft like I did when I played Mineplex.

This is absolutely tragic. Heartbreaking, even.
I joined Mineplex when it was a young server, copying many aspects of Minecade and other larger servers. I loved playing MineKart, their old Mario Kart lookalike, and would come home from middle school and log on everyday. As a shy middle school student, I found so much joy and friendship on the server. Over the years, I probably logged over 50 days of time in the server, playing Super Smash Mobs, Wizards, Survival Games, Champions, or just hanging out.
I'm in college now and haven't touched Mineplex or Minecraft in something like four years. However, I would have loaded the game back up to log back into the server one last time.

What sucks most of all about modern Minecraft servers is that you can’t play classic hunger games anywhere

It sucks to see how one of the few decent, original, servers on bedrock edition was turned to a husk of it's original self, and then was shutdown without having a proper send off. RIP MinePlex!
This. Mineplex was by far the best and most “vanilla” server on bedrock, while the others feel like paid add-on slop for the most part. Sad to see it go.

my favorite minigame was castle siege, and no matter how terrible i was at it, playing it always brought a smile to my face
its insulting that the owners wont give us a notice that it is shutting down. the server couldve been ended like the hive, but instead they chose to leave it in the dust
I remember being 10-12 years old playing the mineplex server for the first time when everyone back then was a lot nicer and you could greet people and make friends like that. Its not like that anymore on a lot of servers including Mineplex. Rip Mineplex. I havent played in 5 months and to come back and not see the Mineplex server when i wanted to play lost a piece of my childhood
The Minecraft server I worked for had the Owner burn himself out, and I and others kept telling him to not to, and eventually, he decided to close the server as it became a useless expense. It is truly sad seeing those servers that existed for a while, just die out. The one I worked for has barely ran for 3 years, so I see how hard the expenses can be.
Good thing our Owner sent off the server with a community farewell and thanks, as wells as letting the staff know ahead of time. he was a good owner.

I remember waking up early every morning at 4-5am before school so I could play Mineplex, especially for the Halloween event. I remember even playing while completely out of it after getting home from a tooth removal (it was infected) totally helped with the pain 💀. Will be missed, never forgotten RIP.

Dominate/champions for sure, followed closely by death tag. I loved using the traitor kit and knocking people to their deaths lmao
I liked the one where the dragons would destroy the island and you tried to survive on the island that was slowly getting destroyed
I loved playing turfwars and dragons. They had the least amount of hackers lol

Mine was Turf Wars
Literally it was the only server I played on because of it's unique mini-games. Especially Death Tag. We had really strong community full of skilled people and we could chill and play DT whole day. I have tears in my eyes when I think of that because those times were really golden that I won't forget. While being in school I was thinking about to going home and hop on the server as soon as possible. So sad to see how Mineplex's staff treated it and let the pure diamond become a block of cobblestone. Hopefully one day we will meet again...
was a mineplex regular before it shut down, actually played the day before it went down for good; my biggest regret was not getting ppls’ discord info that i had been playing with for months at that point. everyone was so much fun to play with, and besides people spamming “this server is dead” in the lobby chat, in the actual only playable game (nano games) it was a lot of fun and you really got the sense that nothing was wrong. i will miss the people so so much. i had made so many friends and i still have some of them around but it’s hard knowing that i will probably never see most of them again… the memories will live on though!!
The fact that Mineplex is bigger than other smaller servers that aren't thriving but are still online is just so sad.

You will be missed :( You were one of my favourite servers when I only had bedrock edition, one of 3 servers I liked genuinely playing on. I am sure if we were informed, we would all come back for one last goodbye to our beloved server. The last time I believe I played on mineplex was 1 year ago, but before I used to play very often on the server having fun with friends.
Grew up on mineplex with one of my best friends, consider him my brother. Just found out mineplex shut down and we just talked about all the old games we played. I havent logged onto mineplex in years, i probobly wouldnt ever have again. Still id like to thank such a server for giving me so much time and fun with my friends

Man the 2013 bettermc looked like so much fun. I started on Mineplex clans but when it died in 2018 I stopped playing mc until BattleAU rebooted clans during the summer of 2020. They renamed themselves to Betterpvp and although they had both Americans and aussies, I thoroughly enjoyed playing with aussies more than Americans. I love your guys's accents and how you all have no filter haha. That was a really fun summer and a good way to escape the ravaging Covid-19 at the time. Unfortunately it died after 3 seasons but it was fun while it lasted. It rekindled a relationship with a good friend I met on mineplex clans and we made many fond memories on Betterpvp.
I have two questions for you Mr. TH-camr: Was MyKindos around in BattleAU? And what was your fondest memory on BattleAU? :)
I believe mykindos was yep, and I played the first season of the betterpvp reboot in 2020 as well hahahaha, was great fun

man, I didn't really play mineplex a lot, but it hurts to see this kind of stuff in the gaming industry. Sorry for you mineplex fan's loss. I know how you guys feel bc I was there when they shut down the servers for all of the halo games that Bungie made, and it is truly unfortunate. The fact that the owners just left the fans in the dark like that is literally fucked up, cuz at least we halo fans were informed on our servers shutdown. Seriously tho, that's just messed up for them to shutdown servers like that.
Honestly one of the most wholesome takes from this is that you can feel the same personality and enthusiasm you have now in your former self. It's sweet, and while I'm new here it shows me that you really are dedicated to this game and aren't just here to content farm. It's refreshing and admirable.

Mineplex was my childhood. I was never really into survival minecraft when I was younger, so servers like this were where I spent most of my time. I remember practically begging my parents for the ultra rank and they wisely said no. It will always hold a special place in my heart, and its sad to see what it became. Turf wars, bridge battle, and super smash mobs are modes I made good memories with my friends on.
mineplex was literally part of my childhood. Seeing clips of videos you made on mineplex as a kid brings me back. I remember using Bandicam and trying to find free recording software trying to make videos on mineplex with my friends. I wish I was able to go back and play my favorite games just once more now :(
I remember my friends and I convincing our parents to donate to Mineplex for an Ultra rank, because we played it every day and it was just $20 forever for our favourite server… oh, the memories.
As a Champions DOM main myself. Seeing that you have recreated Dom on your server allowing me to play again is just amazing. I'm planning to get my friends who are dom regulars who was on mineplex before its death to play on there another time 😉

If you watch his last couple of update videos, he is extremely motivated and will do what is best for him and the server. He is in it for the long run.
I fell out of playing minecraft minigames around 2015, but mineplex was one if not my first ever server I played on. it was even my first ever TH-cam video if I rememeber correctly.

This legit made me tear up a bit i remember playing on mineplex since 2015 and up to this day i was playing time to time
even though it didnt have that many players as hypixel it was still cool in its own way as if it was your big friend group because you could see the same people almost every day

I want to start off with as a Former member of the top 10 Skywars players on Mineplex Bedrock for a while, I remembered watching the server’s decline. Everything from the change in ownership, to the rapid dying of its player base since the attempted revamp.
I remembered I stopped playing after they got rid of Kits in skywars, which I grinded months to be able to afford them all. And even then I tried to make it work for a while…
I want to thank LT Tombstone for being the Awesome Moderator he was, being in contact ever since he was a trainee…being almost always on call to lend an ear to my reporting hackers that I would find in game and immediately taking care of them. …Farewell Mineplex, your glory days will be missed, but you lived a full life.
I just want to say that Samito, Once Pro Player in Overwatch, bought 100% of Mineplex, and wants to revive it. With the news that PvE isn't what it was supposed to be in Overwatch 2, he wants to move on. That's some great news!

This honestly made me cry. I remember playing the christmas update with my sister. The advent calendar, the big winter parkour, speed builders, so much things to remember.. And it's all gone. I loved playing mineplex, it will forever take a place in my heart. ❤️

As the first server I ever played on when I got Minecraft, Mineplex will forever hold a place in my heart. I have many memories and proud moments from Mineplex and I'm sad to see it go. It reminds me of a time where I didn't worry so much and was still innocent. Rest in peace Mineplex and thank you to the admins and developers that kept it up till the very end.

I remember the earlier days of Mineplex on bedrock- I had so much playtime on it until I lost motivation with the amount of bugs and lag there was such as the world not loading at all on switch for over a year, making me fall out of the world (which was coincidentally fixed a day after I commented about it on your other video on its corruption). I haven't even logged on kind of recently nor have I actually played it in a few months. It would've been great to have one more look, open my 40ish crates, and see my stats for one more time.
The outro of this video literally made me start to tear up, it made me think of my own time playing Mineplex.
This is one of the saddest shutdowns since Club Penguin. At least with Club Penguin though, we got to say goodbye.

In Christmas of 2022 I was thinking of recording the Christmas minigame that Mineplex has had since around 2014 to document it because I knew they would either shut down or redesign the server in the next 2 years but I got lazy and decided to do it in 2023 because I thought Mineplex couldn't possibly shut down THAT soon. I really regret my decision now.
TheMisterEpic when I heard it first shutdown I didn't feel anything that much but after watching this, I remember playing it on Java, and Bedrock then I felt something from watching this and now I miss playing on the server.
i will never forget the 2017 joy (or sometime along those lines) of logging on and receiving a Titan role out of a daily chest, when i had never had a role in any server before. it was like a brand new world.
i just wish they had some sort of goodbye event, y'know? if i had known the server was gonna shut down i would've played on it one last time. i get that there was a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes, but it just sucks to see.
this is really sad to see, ive played on it since i got my account like 6 years ago. i think what im going to miss the most is probably the seasonal holloween and Christmas minigames
this hits hard, i remember being so young and playing mineplex in like 2016 everyday after school. being so young, these realizations wouldve just went over my head. but gyroninja saying he continued developing after not even being paid just so people could have fun, i just want to say thank you to you, and the rest of the devs that played such a huge role in my childhood. you never got the treatment you deserve, and i wish you all the best going forward in whatever you do
Me and my friend used to play mini games on mineplex together for years as kids. Unfortunately, we both moved on and parted ways, but the memories we made on this server will last forever.
I joined early this month to open my crates. Tried to play a round of cake wars. There’s were not enough players so the round was taking a while to start, so I left. I regret not staying the extra 10 minutes to say goodbye.
I remember playing on that server on bedrock. That was one of the better ones, and it's sad to see it go. Goodbye mineplex, your constitutions to minecraft will not be forgotten.... At least not yet.

This makes me cry so much. My computer was broken, and recently my phone broke as well. I’ve only just now gotten the news that it’s shutdown. Since 2015, I had played mineplex non stop. This hits me hard man.
I remember playing mineplex when a small streamer was playing it and I spammed “$20 paypal if you let the streamer win” and got perm muted
I do hope Gyroninja will help bring Mineplex: Reimagined back. Someone like that deserves recognition.

Mineplex is seriously one of the most historical servers ever. Heck even technoblade’s first video was ON MINEPLEX’s OWNER, DEFEK. It’s so crazy and insane that the community was not able to do anything to help the server…

That's painful, my whole childhood was based on Mineplex games, getting home from school and hopping on this server and playing until bedtime, i stopped playing for a very long time and started playing back not long ago. I knew with the small amount of people it was about to close but now that it's the end it's so painful. Used +100 euros for chests and ranks.
I wish I could have watched my sister do a send off game of her favorite Mineplex mini game, cakewars. It almost brings a tear to my eye, thinking me and my sister did not even play or log into Mineplex this year because it ended before summer break 🫡 thank you for all the few memories you gave me Mineplex, and I hope you come back if you can 😢.

I remember having a lot of fun with Castle Siege. No other server that I was aware of had anything like it.
Minigames like Bomb Lobbers and Paintball were a lot of fun too, and I liked their version of Paintball a lot better than Hypixel's.
But over time it became hard to get a full lobby for Castle Siege and they eventually took it down altogether.
Hopefully the new server will implement a game mode along the lines of Castle Siege.
Their anti cheat was next to nonexistent and for those of us who played on this server frequently, it was extremely frustrating. The games were fun, the community was awesome, but neglect from the owners is unfortunately why people stopped playing

Damn, so sad. I remember the times I came home from school to jump in a Skype call with friends and go play some mineplex games. Mainly the kit pvp where you could choose different creatures. Logged on it last year some time and saw how dead the server already was. That kind of hurts when you remember it having thousands of players where you would find full lobbys in seconds.
I was a regular player of Mineplex, im very sad to see it go, i keep looking at the servers tab and see Mineplex down very heart braking.
i know right, i have both the regular and clans address still at the top of my screen and i can’t bring myself to lower it
