I think the bggest issue with Mojang is that they think their only customer base are kids. Everything has to be as simplistic and familiy friendly as possible. But thats simply wrong. The most invested players are those that where kids when Minecraft came out, you know, 10 years ago. They are all in their 20s or even older.
I feel like the idea of children being their main audience has lead to them chasing realism too because they want to sell Minecraft to schools as an educational game for children.
@@invictus_1245i literally once played a coding educational game that had Minecraft in it. It made me play Steve trying to go to this place or activate some stuff through coding
Honestly, as a result of Mojang's focus on marketing to kids, I just play modded to the gills and rarely update my install unless a new killer mod comes out that isn't on my current "standing on" version. They won't get more complex themselves? Cool, I've got Apotheosis, Create and like _twelve_ addons for it, Simply Swords, BetterCombat, and Curios. Mojang can keep their patently-pointless mob votes and 'archaeology' that will no doubt make other, more interesting lore theories obsolete.
Because they treat their games like kids are the only target audience, ignoring most of the fan-base that actually wants a good game to be played for a long amount of time supported with updates, rts players and action-rpg players. Huge mistake. That thing is effectively killing every minecraft spin-off game they make. Minecraft spin-off games will always remain an oversimplified generic game of its genre with "Minecraft" written on the title.
Fun fact: The highest time played that anyone has played Minecraft legends on steam is 116 hours and there is only one person that has over 100 hours in that game (other than a person that has 3k botted hours) The next highest playtimes are: 75h, 56h, 53h, 42h, and lower and lower. Some people literally have more hours in one game than ALL of the people who played minecraft legends combined.
That’s crazy to me….as a kid I probably pumped thousands of hours into Minecraft…I put over 1000 hours onto fallout 4 as a teenager, and ever since 2015 I’ve put roughly 7000 hours on ArmA3 all while having out door hobbies and friends I visit a few times a week. How mojang failed this hard with one of the largest fan bases in gaming, is baffling
@@stuglife5514 ..baffling but plausible. If we could make a Minecraft-M.Legends comparison we could say that it's like putting the ocean in a glass. If you drink it or smell it it tastes like the ocean but it doesn't have the vastness, it doesn't have the waves and you certainly can't be moved by its wonderful panoramic view.
just wanted to add The 3 million figures you talked about in the video are not sales, it's just total number of players. Since it's on Gamepass a good chunk of those players came from there. Afaik almost no Xbox studio publishes sales data anymore

@@ogdeb While Microsoft does own Mojang, not everything can be blamed on them. Microsoft do not influence the game's development at all, they only bought the brand value.
The game would have fared better as an actual RTS like Supreme Commander mixed with Total War. You start in a village with a village square, build woodcutters and miners who gather a slow trickle of resources, use those to build some basic troops like the plank golems and slowly build your forces while the piglins do the same and send waves of attacks. You're soft-locked from some area's due to high tier enemies, and you expand around slowly growing finding new resources and upgrades, upgrading buildings and technology, finding new golems and building a force of hundreds of units to march over the overworld to face off against the piglin swarm and set up a defensive zone around a portal to let your sappers mine the obsidian blocks instead of having basically any golem just hit it enough to destroy the portal structure giving the game an attack and defence vibe with it because the piglins can bring in another horde of soldiers to try and stop you so you better make sure you're reinforcing your front. But that's my thoughts on it. I played through the whole game and haven't touched it since, kinda forgot about it honestly that's how forgettable it was.
Wholeheartedly agree. The current game is too simplistic with its gameplay, and would've definitely benefitted from something a little more distanced from regular minecraft with the player. Also, the idea of special sappers to destroy the portals would be a clever way to make it more strategic as you said.
I haven't played Legends, but based on what I've heard and seen, it makes me miss Minecraft: Story Mode. While it wasn't an open-world game and had limited combat abilities, the player had a bit of freedom to alter the plot's direction and even change the ending, especially with Season 2.
Minecraft Story Mode was super weird to me. It has the Minecraft IP, branding, mobs and blocks, etc., but the gameplay is literally as far from Minecraft as you can get. Instead of an open world with no story where you can do whatever you want, it's a linear story-based "game" where you can only follow a few specific paths. Still more interesting to me than Legends, though.
I played it and it is just very repetitive and just poorly executed. When I drew the line was when I basicly couldn't progress unless I bought a $10 "lost legend" pack that gives you otherwise "locked" content and some items to progress in story mode...
minecraft story mode is basically "what if... minecraft had more focused on story" and thats why i like it. witherstorm, different dimensions in the portal hallway and something more than just "i guess we have to kill a dragon we never knew about because he spawns endermen in our world that steal blocks"
As of January 10, 2024, the Minecraft Legends Twitter account announced that Minecraft:Legends has been discontinued meaning our worst fears have been realized. Back in June of 2023, a dev mentioned that the game had only 6 months of support left (despite the game having come out 3 months prior) and, 6 months later, that time has finally run out. The fact that the game died after only 9 months compared to other spinoffs is kinda sad tbh...
I know that the game flopped but the game didn’t Qualify as a True Failure for me. But why would they discontinue the game before 1 Full year with no Anniversary Update? It’s not Fair! 😭😭😭
Yeeeah, i also noticed that. Get that BlackBird Interactive go fuck themselfs. But, keeping in mind that this studio was connecting with community more than Mojang, i think it's actually Mojang's fault
It makes me sad... I can only imagine how discouraging this would be for the creative minds behind the game itself. To see their own creation fail and dwindle into obscurity like this... It sucks. The game has so much potential with just a few tweaks to the core gameplay loop, but it will apparently never see that happen. :(
I remember buying Legends day one to play with some friends. As soon as we realized that the co-op was so barebones that we couldn't even be on the same team, we just refunded and never looked back
That's me at 8:24 (Phineapoo1313) playing in that initial release-week tournament. This game had me HOOKED at the get go, for about a week. There was a ton of promise with this game if it was updated regularly. The concerns mentioned in the video were definitely prevalent from day one, and a few of us found some strategies that broke the meta in multiplayer pretty quickly. Multiplayer was pretty much gonna have be the saving grace for this game. If they were to turn this game around at all, it had to come from reaching out to the community and adding/changing the things that the community was wanting or needing. That meta break I mentioned was brought up, but I didn't end up seeing much of a change to it at all, basically making it another mode with a very repetitive feel. I feel that they probably had about 3 chances to course correct, with at least one of those before release even happened. There was at least some small communication during that first week, but the radio silence afterwards was hard to take on. I hope that a miracle happens and they can get some of that interest back, even if I don't end up coming back. I worry that this lack of communication or disconnect with the community will infect and kill the other games they make over time, including Minecraft itself.
There's many reasons why Minecraft was so successful, like it being an endless sandbox, servers, creativity, mods, nostalgia. You can basically do anything in Minecraft and yes it will eventually become repetitive but we still play Minecraft. Same downfall happened to Mc Dungeons, even tho I still play it.
It can never become repetitive. Just as it begins to be repetitive, you can do any number of the things you suggested. Play with mods, play on servers, download texture packs, use any number of data packs.
@@anonanonymous9670yeah if you only do what the game directly says you can do like beating the game or getting max gear, it gets repetitive and boring fast
@@Adrian-kb4rg >yeah if you only do what the game directly says you can do like beating the game or getting max gear, it gets repetitive and boring fast Yeah, that's pretty much what kinda ends up happening, either people focus on mixmax/completing it, or they look at the 10+ year Hardcore worlds, tryhard with Big Plans, then drop it after 5 days and repeat. B1.8 and it's consequences have been a disaster for Minecraft, one could say :V
The multiplayer was actually really fun, different from the campaign and as a nice spin on the RTS genre. Though because there was no proper long-term progression, or really a point to play other than well, the gameplay, the fun didn't last that long. There was also a big learning curve between those who didn't understand + make use of the RTS-like mechanics and those who actually did.
I remember buying Legends the day it came out and after like a month I was only playing it for the monthly rewards then they became to hard so I just quit the game. I feel like Mojang should’ve stuck with Dungeons as their spinoff game cuz at least the levels in that game were somewhat unique
yep, definitely agreed. I feel like Dungeons are far way more interacting, and have that much potential, as from the player's number database, which shows that Dungeons player r far way more than Legends. Also, they're staying there for a longer time than Legends did (3 years on Dungeons vs 7 - 8 months on Legends)
0:38 Correction: Minecraft Legends was on Gamepass at launch so there being 3 million players at launch doesn’t mean it sold 3 million copies, and the numbers if probably much lower.
Can't thank you enough for making this video, incredible work! Glad to have helped out. Minecraft Legends has so much potential that Mojang could tap into.
I still play it. The game should add more content after you defeat the Great Hog because the world will become boring. The Piglins still roam the world in small groups but their bases and outpost are empty so the world becomes useless.
Just seeing the gameplay, this looks like it could have been a sick competitive tactics game in the line of Starcraft if they went that route with the pvp and had multiple potential objectives at the start of the game. Seeing people develop strategies on the fly and work to build a base and army, protect the objective, and destroy their enemy would have been so cool, but unfortunately, I have a different vision of what the game could be than Mojang did
I have noticed a theme that Mojangs failures all come down to communications. I think this may be a result of a developer focused communication strategy and they may need too work with creators or something to develop a better method to be focused on communication
@alphabros5226 that is true. I think most AR games were a fad anyways though and most would have died anyways. The only exception being maybe Pokémon Go but I still think it too will fade.
Wow, just wow. Thanks for telling about the state of this game, I didn't knew it was THIS bad, beyond surface level, that's why I appreciate this video
It’s bad, but this video creator carefully curates where it takes it’s numbers from to sensationalize the issue. It’s a flop but not as bad as this manipulative video portrayed.
Mojang will make whole spinoff games with never seen before content before adding something other than a new wood type and a mob from mob vote to the actual Minecraft
there's probably a lot of bureaucracy when it comes to adding content to the base game. I've heard Microsoft/Mojang is fearful that by adding too much and changing it too much might end up ruining it, so they don't
I think that recently we have begun to see mojang’s complete disregard for any project that doesnt make them enough money (most likely forced by microsoft) - minecraft now, minecraft earth, minecraft monthly, and of course, minecraft legends. Also apparently they’re already working on another game with the codename ‘spicewood’ but take that with a grain of salt
nailed it. none of the devs have any say at what goes on with this game anymore. just greedy execs. Once you take into account all the crazy oppressive regulations to try and make it marketable to babies, it all starts to make sense. Its all about ripping off kids parents.
@mrrooter601 eh that's a reach we don't really know how it is internally of course any game that big is going to have executive meddling but who knows how much devs have input I certainly don't
@@no-fd6mt True, but judging by the drastic nature of the executive decisions made as soon as Minecraft/Mojang was purchased by Microsoft and the complete disregard for the community and important aspects of the game, (for example, the outing of C418, an integral staple of the game, replaced with financially controllable creators) it’s safe to say Microsoft can remodel the entire game in any way they want to chase more money. And if that means marketing to children, which is one of the biggest markets in the gaming/media industry right now, then knowing Microsoft, they’re *definitely* going to do that. They don’t care if they take away everything that made the game “special”. As long as Microsoft is making more money from this product, they’ll commit to any strategy. They’re a business.
For those who really enjoyed commanding an army while actively fighting in the front. Mount and blade is the best choice currently (for peoples like me) both warband and bannerlord are brilliant masterpiece and barely any repetitive.
Mojang and communicating are two things not facing each other. Remember that for past years all the problems with minecraft were originating from huge lack of communication...
At stores there was so much legends merchandise left on shelves that much of it went on clearance. I didn't even see ads for said merch until way after the game released and I only seen those adverts a few times.
We know that Mojang just sucks at communication No matter the game, they somehow manage to always alienate their playerbase and not communicate properly...
This is a trend at several Microsoft-owned studios...343 Industries has been notorious for their poor communication with players. Rare seems to have gotten the formula right though, which is part of why Sea of Thieves has done relatively well despite having a rocky launch a few years ago
Have they commented on the copper bulb changes? I don’t believe so, and the community is in uproar. What was supposed to be a time of feature development where the voices of the players could be impactfully heard, they’re ignoring all suggestions and frustratingly not explaining why they’re ignoring said changes to the community. Furthermore, during the entire most recent Minecraft Live, the entire chat was constantly filled with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BUT #stopthemobvote which Mojang hasn’t commented on once. The ENTIRE COMMUNITY collectively decided on what they think would be best for the game, and Mojang didn’t even say a word in reply. This lack of communication is a very common trend among Mojang and the fact that they continue to pump out “interactive community content” on their channels whilst actively ignoring the community, makes me think they’re doing it on purpose. This is quite disappointing from Mojang in my opinion.
@@MrMelonszthere were rumours that the minecraft live was actually pre-recorded and I actually believe it, because you could see they didn't even read the chat or do any talks or communication with anyone. They were all silent to the viewers. You can guess it in the edited parts of the so-called "live"
Man, this game had so much potential, it literally could have been the next Age of Empires if they went with the cultures thing and added more combat mechanics. All they had to do was add more variability in the gameplay and the replayablity would have skyrocketed. But no, it just flatlined right then and there.
Insane how horribly this game failed. Mojang's greed seems to have done it again - this game should have never been created. We could have gotten better updates and more additions to Minecraft, but they don't want to make players happy; they just want money. Absolutely horrifying.
@@skeleton_master.Stop protecting Mojang man. Even though stuff like the banned words in chat are Microsoft's fault bad updates to Minecraft and Legends are made by Mojang. Also I do not think manpower is an issue for Mojang since they are owned by a billion dollar company.
i bought legends and its honestly pretty good, i jumped back in recently. i think the multiplayer thing could be really fun if i had friends that also had the game. its sad to see legends die, theyll never add these good features because nobody plays and the seed of doubt has already been planted in peoples minds.
They say the only thing worse than being hated, is to be forgotten. Well, I did forget this game existed until this video popped up in my feed. Sad times...
But Minecraft dungeons was never supposed to be a live service game they stopped supporting it bc it was literally just a game that they made it’s not meant to stick around, I’m pretty sure the dlcs were supposed to come out at launch to so your lucky that added anything. They intended just to drop the game as it is and no more
last night as i comment this, for a brief period of time, Minecraft Legends had the same amount of online players as *Bad Rats: The Rat's Revenge.* that's... just pathetic.
I really hope this game makes a comeback. I really liked the game and the new update did make the game more strategic(you cant just rush into the larger bases anymore due to air choppers existing). The game just need more content and an actual post game.
There was lot potential indeed in the game. Only if they could have spoke to the community more, maybe it would had kept its players. Heck they could have give us more ways attack, rather just using boring sword. They could have give us Bow or more weapons to use and give more customization options but nah, they just left the game as soon it got published.
See, things like these is why the Minecraft community brings up the term "Mojang is lazy." This does not only go with it's main game updates, but also with its spinoffs. Think about how many times a Minecraft spinoff has gone down the drain with little support, lack of content, lack of fun, etc. It's a bigger problem than we realize and because of this, it really makes Mojang's team look like the bad guy here. Microsoft may be to blame, but it's also the fact that Mojang hasn't said anything about these issues and has left us all in the dark. Mojang may not be lazy, but they do need to communicate a lot more than they do now.
Biggest issue for mojang that could be their biggest virtue is mods. Everything they want to do or bring is probably already out there in mods. We have adventure questing mods, ones where you can build up followers to help you etc. It could be a benefit though as it's easier for them to approach and bring those mods in house (horses, pistons etc prove this) It also means they can focus on a few core new vanilla changes that mods might have overlooked.
Here's my story. I saw the game come out, was super excited because I grew up with lego battles and loved it.saw the game was quite limited in content, didn't wanna pay full price for it, forgot it existed eventually and never bought it.
i am just sad dungeons got discontinued, i put a lot of time into that game and i really enjoyed playing minecraft dungeons and its just sad seeing it being replaced my minecraft legends
I enjoyed Minecraft Legends, but my issue was I was soft locked due to building limitations. Couldn't build anymore until i deleted other buildings or spend hours deleting walls one pillar at a time. They didn't even mention a build limit, and there's no bypasses for it. Completely ruined the game for me. Haven't played the game since
@@EggsBenedict-te4nj it’s not a sandbox like minecraft but still the fact that they don’t mention a build limit until you hit it is just stupid. And deleting walls is more painful than drinking bleach.
I've never even heard of this game somehow. I'm not super active in the community, and don't play Minecraft anymore, but I still watch a handful of TH-camrs and keep up to date with the game. Never heard a single mention of this game.
This was my experience too, the combat is weird and way too repetitive. It was pretty fun to play online with friends for a little, but it took so long to queue since so many players were quitting.
When I first saw it, I hoped it was a 4X RTS game, command and conquer style, where you could build things in regular minecraft, then use those buildings as part of your base in this game and train then command big and diverse armies (Archers, swords, spears, catapults, cavalry), that would have been an enjoyable game.
@@Mazzy_ArtsRTS means Real Time Strategy, which is built around commanding armies into battle. 4x is short for eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. 4x strategy games are generally empire simulators.
I think the problem is that mojang tries to play things as safe as possible. mentioning the lack of urgency within this game as well as the lack of interesting ideas and content exemplifies that. they've also been doing this with their updates, forcing a mob vote that adds in a creature with a niche use that nobody will remember, and especially in the new update, the dungeons I already forgot the name of. the last time they've added a new weapon was the crossbow, I believe. minecraft would be more interesting if something like a dodge was added, or daggers with a shorter attack cooldown but less range. something that adds to the game in a significant way. they can likely do well if they stop being big corpos and actually listen to player feedback instead of shareholder feedback, but until then, I suppose mods will have to tickle our fancies.
Reason Minecraft legends flopped in my opinion. 1. Overpriced 2. the campaign gets repetitive and boring after 15 mins 3. very buggy 4. minecoins you have to pay for skins 5. multiplayer kinda sucks 6. the whole game is super repetitive and boring 7. lack of dlcs and other gamemodes In total Minecraft dungeons and Minecraft story mode are infinitely better.
“To destroy the piglins, swipe at them with your sword!” “To destroy the portal, swipe at it with your sword!” “To destroy the towers, swipe at them with your sword!” “To destroy the player experience, abandon this entire project with zero communication established with the community!”
@@Alanboss777 yeah right lets all remember what an incredible hit Scrolls was or the tons of other projects he announced, made a prototype of and then abandoned entirely. People really need to stop giving this guy any credit, 99% of his work had to be rewritten and redesigned because it was dogshit and the parts that haven't are still a festering tumor on Java edition. He made a single good prototype, quickly rushed in some half-baked features that had to be fixed by other people and that's about all he has accomplished.
With the lackluster updates Minecraft had been getting recently, I genuinely believed that Mojang was incompetent, but after some thinking, I then leaned on the company struggling to meet fan expectations. But after seeing this video and how Mojang badly treated Minecraft Legends, I'm leaning back towards the former.
I remember being quite interested when I'd first saw the game, I bought it when it came out and then I think I played for about 30 minutes, (I beat the tutorial and ran around a little bit) and it just felt like I'd played the entire game at that point. Haven't booted it since.
Same, I remember asking my mom to buy me the xbox gamepass just to get the game now it became pointless cuz it felt meh, it was overhyped, never played the game again. It had potential, they blew it. The tutorial I was learning but gave it chance, that chance was a waste.
i still actively play dungeons. it was really cheap of them to not inform us that 1.17 was the final update until a full year later. they could still make dlc for it if they wanted. i know they said there wouldn't be any more dlc after echoing void, but hey, wouldn't be the first time mojang went back on their word.
I really get the impression that the Mojang team just didn't want to make this game. They really did nothing to help support it as it released and just left it to die. I dont find it to hard to believe that they where pressured by microsoft to make a new minecraft game but where genuinely not interested in doing so but had to do so anyway.
It's crazy that Blackbird Interactive, a dedicated development studio that made the entire Homeworld series, helped develop Minecraft Legends. Given how successful they were with their previous games and the cut content that one of the devs brought up, I really think Legends could have been an amazing game. I hope it'll be a No Man's Sky type game and come back later being so much better than launch.
@@alphabros5226 Yeah, the weird single attack, lack of movement and command options do make it hard I feel like it tried being a middle ground between a micro-heavy game like the Homeworld series and a simpler gameplay that's easier for the average player. It would be an improvement if it went in either direction. Plus, No Man's Sky was deemed 'unredeemable' because of how niche the mechanics were, but it's an amazing game today.
From how you described it, Minecraft Legends seems like as if Mojang spent 5 years making a really boring RTS Minecraft map and made people pay momey to play it, except in this case it’s an entirely different game and there’s no reason for it to feel so limited.
I dont even remember all the minecraft spin offs at this point anymore. Except for that minecraft story mode game, that was fun. Dont know why they cancelled it.
I could not for the life of me figure out the point of what this game was trying to do in general. Every trailer I saw plain didn't sell me on the idea, and even now I struggle to explain what this is. It just felt... Off from the outset. Knowing how it turned out and how stuffed last year was for games in general, skipping this one was a good call.
Legends is fun, I just ended up with a bugged save that reset my progress when I was on the offensive against the Piglins, which really destroyed my enthusiasm to keep playing.
those mods make me want to play the game again. like most other players, i played for about 3 days when it first came out and haven't opened it since and hearing that its getting taken down kinda makes me pity the game and try it out one more time. great video by the way, i learned so much from it. :)
To me this highlights the issue with Minecraft spinoffs. Minecraft was a game created with a vision in mind and core gameplay we all know and love was there from day one: place and destroy blocks. That's all there is to it. Meanwhile all the spinoffs try to look like Minecraft while completely failing at capturing the core of the game that made it popular. Piglins? Villages? Story? Lore? These things are not what makes Minecraft special.
As someone with thousands of hours on the main game. I was excited about this game when it was announced. But I quickly forgot and just couldn't be bothered to get it. I'm sad and happy about that
I never played this one but I was actually pretty bummed when Minecraft earth shutdown. It was pretty fun to play. I think it just had really bad timing when the whole game was based on being out and about and then covid hit.
They should re-release Minecraft Earth now right since we can all go out, never played Minecraft Earth, was thinking of trying it out but didn't know it was completely shutdown. That's sad
I loved the game but I had 2 major problems, the first was that my creeper army got bugged and was stuck in the piglin attacking stage so now I can't use them. Second was the amount of villager attacks.
Legends gave me so much hope as an RTS player. I enjoyed the campaign for a day then hopped into multiplayer, excited to see what the pvp was like. It had a lot of potential, but for a game that forces 4v4 pvp, there were NO ways to communicate with your teammates, making for an insufferable online experience. Combine this with the fact that at any point, one of your teammates could just teleport your entire army away from you (I heard they eventually patched this), it made me quit pretty much instantly after playing a 40 min long really close game just to have that happen to me. There was so much potential, which makes it so sad to see what its ended up like.
Ngl i am one of those 7 players. I found the game enjoyable and was one of the few to finnish it. The game is really fun on legend difficulty because you can't just rush to the portal. You need redsotone launchers and good seige tactics. But people abandoned the game, and im one of the few that's still find it fun.
honestly legends feels more like a justification for an expansion of toys more than a game for its own sake. there’s so many more new mobs introduced than dungeons’ base game, and i cant help but feel they were mostly crafted to sell toys.
This is my #2 GOTY (after Terra Nil). But I readily admit that I'm the member of a _very small_ niche that has craved a "first-person RTS" since the Joan of Arc campaign in _AoE2._ This game was never going to be a financial success that justified the _half decade_ of development, so I'm mainly just grateful that the game exists and that the partnership with Mojang was enough to fund BBI as they produce the game that should be my GOTY for 2024: *_Homeworld 3_*
I think there still hope for Minecraft Legends, they need influencers to play the game and followers will follow them playing, along with the modding community continuously adding new mods to the game, it will definitely rise up again.
Spinoffs aren't really bad idea. Dungeons turned out to be a great and unique game. In some ways even better than Diablo which was inspiration for the game.
@@WaffelKamilatus I actually bought dungeons on launch but found it stale after completing the main objectives and stuff. Don't know if they've added additional content, though
@@Bynax Theyve added a lot of additional content, however it is all through paid dlcs that add roughly 5-10 hours of gameplay depending on prior gear and stuff like that.
Dungeons was pretty successful, though. Infact really fun for what it is. It does get stale after you get to NG+ Apocalypse mode, but the DLC help draw attention. My only complaint is the Battle Pass grind, it takes wayy too long to level up once. Otherwise Dungeons is pretty solid.
As a developer, i literally ask if they had 1 part time dev working on this project. The features in this game could be made and tested within 2 years by a full team
Its the same as the mainline minecraft team, I wonder how one can make the lamest updates ever, year after year, when a single mod maker can pump out 10x the content in the same timeframe.
The sad part is: Whatever they add into a new failed game -> It won't make it to the actual game because they want "unique ideas" or they fear that the new stuff in the game is the cause of the low popularity (which is also wrong. Many people would love to see some of the things implemented into the vanilla minecraft game).
@@lonelystarslibrary9326yeah, we waited 11 years for dog armor that doesn't even protect your dog or the fact that we are getting one update a year for some random useless blocks that serves nothing to the game shows how lazy mojang are. What does mojang even do? We barely get updates for Minecraft, dungeons never got anything too good which was the intention, and Minecraft legends lost a bunch of content, like I swear they almost lazier then Activision.

Mojang can keep their patently-pointless mob votes and 'archaeology' that will no doubt make other, more interesting lore theories obsolete.
concept for the game was fucking GREAT like legit could have ressurected the rts'ish genre, but how they made it truly was a shot in the wardens layer
yeah i feel like they should have put tnt or more redstone mechanics at least
The rts games that already exist are way to big to need a resurrection honestly, to me the game was pointless like Minecraft earth
They do something bad and then think adding something in the marketplace will make us all forget about what happened.
The Minecraft legends is actually the blocky version of mobile legend!!!
Fun fact: The highest time played that anyone has played Minecraft legends on steam is 116 hours and there is only one person that has over 100 hours in that game (other than a person that has 3k botted hours)
The next highest playtimes are: 75h, 56h, 53h, 42h, and lower and lower.
I have 135 hours of Minecraft legends on my switch.

Yeah. I never played legends but as someone who has too many hours in SC2 i could see a mine craft version thereof being fun
And if you are going to have a player avatar, you could go the Factorio route, going to a front when needed, along with the building
I loved minecraft story mode so much. Its painfull to see people hating on it nowadays
I played it and it is just very repetitive and just poorly executed. When I drew the line was when I basicly couldn't progress unless I bought a $10 "lost legend" pack that gives you otherwise "locked" content and some items to progress in story mode...
minecraft story mode is basically "what if... minecraft had more focused on story"
and thats why i like it. witherstorm, different dimensions in the portal hallway and something more than just "i guess we have to kill a dragon we never knew about because he spawns endermen in our world that steal blocks"

But why would they discontinue the game before 1 Full year with no Anniversary Update? It’s not Fair! 😭😭😭
First it was Minecraft Earth now it's Minecraft Legends 😢. Mojang should really take some drastic measures in development of there games.
Minecraft Earth got shut down because of Covid, they didn't want to encourage people to go outside with other people.

Can't agree more 💯💯💯💯it's a solid game with damn high room for improvements
I remember buying Legends day one to play with some friends. As soon as we realized that the co-op was so barebones that we couldn't even be on the same team, we just refunded and never looked back
You can be on the same team, just do a normal game, and invite your friend
Yea
Only survival is repetitive (and that's if you don't really want to build anything)

Yeah, that's pretty much what kinda ends up happening, either people focus on mixmax/completing it, or they look at the 10+ year Hardcore worlds, tryhard with Big Plans, then drop it after 5 days and repeat.
B1.8 and it's consequences have been a disaster for Minecraft, one could say :V
Dungeons never fell, everyone loved it until Mojang cut support
Dungeons was definitely a really good game. It still has potential, all they need to do is promote it again and make more major story
0:38 Correction: Minecraft Legends was on Gamepass at launch so there being 3 million players at launch doesn’t mean it sold 3 million copies, and the numbers if probably much lower.
Can't thank you enough for making this video, incredible work! Glad to have helped out. Minecraft Legends has so much potential that Mojang could tap into.
they did you dirty removing your cape
I still play it. The game should add more content after you defeat the Great Hog because the world will become boring. The Piglins still roam the world in small groups but their bases and outpost are empty so the world becomes useless.
But they won't.

@mrrooter601 eh that's a reach we don't really know how it is internally of course any game that big is going to have executive meddling but who knows how much devs have input I certainly don't
What
@@no-fd6mt True, but judging by the drastic nature of the executive decisions made as soon as Minecraft/Mojang was purchased by Microsoft and the complete disregard for the community and important aspects of the game, (for example, the outing of C418, an integral staple of the game, replaced with financially controllable creators) it’s safe to say Microsoft can remodel the entire game in any way they want to chase more money.
Even Lego has a legends set planned to release in 2024. I can see this set resting on store shelves until it is on clearance.
We know that Mojang just sucks at communication
No matter the game, they somehow manage to always alienate their playerbase and not communicate properly...
One of the stupidest things I ever heard.
This is a trend at several Microsoft-owned studios...343 Industries has been notorious for their poor communication with players.
Rare seems to have gotten the formula right though, which is part of why Sea of Thieves has done relatively well despite having a rocky launch a few years ago
Then Nether Update and Caves And Cliffs would never exist
I forgot mclee had his cape removed. Removal of it was a poor choice on mojang’s part imo
Mclee probably agreed with mojang to get rid of the cape bc he didn’t want to be responsible for the player’s entitlement
Biggest issue for mojang that could be their biggest virtue is mods.
Everything they want to do or bring is probably already out there in mods. We have adventure questing mods, ones where you can build up followers to help you etc.
It could be a benefit though as it's easier for them to approach and bring those mods in house (horses, pistons etc prove this)
It also means they can focus on a few core new vanilla changes that mods might have overlooked.

@@Mazzy_Arts I’d recommend Minecraft Dungeons over this game. I recently completed the game, and it’s been a blast.

The only game that succeeded by Mojang besides Minecraft was Minecraft Dungeons. Sadly they abandoned the game in late 2022

Mojang is taking the Bathesda route, pop out a meh game that people care about and let the players fix it up then swoop in and claim credit
Fitting that both were bought by MS.
those mods make me want to play the game again. like most other players, i played for about 3 days when it first came out and haven't opened it since and hearing that its getting taken down kinda makes me pity the game and try it out one more time. great video by the way, i learned so much from it. :)
They should go back to updating Minecraft dungeons instead
To me this highlights the issue with Minecraft spinoffs. Minecraft was a game created with a vision in mind and core gameplay we all know and love was there from day one: place and destroy blocks. That's all there is to it.
Meanwhile all the spinoffs try to look like Minecraft while completely failing at capturing the core of the game that made it popular. Piglins? Villages? Story? Lore? These things are not what makes Minecraft special.
These comment bots ate ridiculous man. Hope it doesnt affect your channel in a bad way misterepic
That's sad
If I had a Nickel for every time Mojang failed at communication, I would be pretty rich.
Concept is cool but also wish they kept updating Minecraft dungeons too.
I really like Minecraft dungeons. Although only played it once all the way through. After that, it gets extremely repetitive.
honestly legends feels more like a justification for an expansion of toys more than a game for its own sake. there’s so many more new mobs introduced than dungeons’ base game, and i cant help but feel they were mostly crafted to sell toys.
This is my #2 GOTY (after Terra Nil). But I readily admit that I'm the member of a _very small_ niche that has craved a "first-person RTS" since the Joan of Arc campaign in _AoE2._
This game was never going to be a financial success that justified the _half decade_ of development, so I'm mainly just grateful that the game exists and that the partnership with Mojang was enough to fund BBI as they produce the game that should be my GOTY for 2024: *_Homeworld 3_*
I think there still hope for Minecraft Legends, they need influencers to play the game and followers will follow them playing, along with the modding community continuously adding new mods to the game, it will definitely rise up again.
Minecraft spinoffs aren't going anywhere, it was obvious that it was going to die out like minecraft dungeons
@@Bynax Dungeons on release is nowhere close to how good it is now. You should play it again.
Many people would love to see some of the things implemented into the vanilla minecraft game).
thats so true wth
WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST ADD THE BIG MUSHROOMS FROM DUNGEONS INTO THE SWAMP UPDATE ON THE VANILLA GAME AAAAA
for me it was the pressure- i wanted to explore the world, but then i see that i have to defend a village that single moment made me not want to play
Same many things happened at once that I couldn't do much that I wanted.
This was developed over 5 years? 😭😭😭 this is what they could come up with?
Imagine how many new things they could've added to the actual Minecraft instead
@@lonelystarslibrary9326yeah, we waited 11 years for dog armor that doesn't even protect your dog or the fact that we are getting one update a year for some random useless blocks that serves nothing to the game shows how lazy mojang are. We would have probably got some lazy ass features that nobody cares for like yellow cow or another useless wood type in those 5 years
Corporations slow down product development immensely.
The player count part is so deceiving and you know it is. Why only get the player count from the steam version?
i love that the thumbnail is an actual screenshot of the player count and not some exaggerated number, it actually shows how abysmal legends truly is
What does mojang even do? We barely get updates for Minecraft, dungeons never got anything too good which was the intention, and Minecraft legends lost a bunch of content, like I swear they almost lazier then Activision.
Especially sad since this game had so many cool blocks, and the developers never had the idea to bring them over to the main game.
Every Minecraft spin-off just dies, then they just release a new one 💀
The multiplayer was genuinely unplayable. Everyone on your team will just spend the rescourses you collected so there would be no point in resource gathering, and the first team to put a redstone launcher on a hill wins automatically. Remind me when was the last time Mojang took a W?
It's a constant theme: Mojang letting the community do their jobs for them.
