They did dumb math. They single key is 12.99$, and three keys are normally 29.99$, "saving" you 6$. But they made it a "sale", where they removed 5$ from both keys options, so of course now 15$ (3*5$) saved is higher than 11$ saved (5+6$).
3:22 is crazy, getting younger people to maybe not realize the deal is awful. Many kids don't realize the pay to win aspect and that's definitely a sign of some of these server's demographics

I just want to build my grand questline where you can choose to free or continue to enslave villagers. If you choose to enslave nothing changes, just the normal game mechanics. If you choose to free them you unlock an alternative way to unlock Mending. This quest simply takes the in-game mechanic (no real life history or politics) and adds a story to it. But I guess telling mature stories and making people think is not kid-friendly.
I mean if companies like EA and 2K can do it then why shouldn’t Minecraft servers be able to? The AAA games industry has made it abundantly clear that they have no problem with loot boxes or predatory monetization schemes so Minecraft server owners are just fallowing what the rest of the gaming industry is already doing anyway. And I would bet money on the fact that Microsoft would do it themselves if they could get away with it without apocalyptic levels of backlash! At least with this system it’s not Microsoft that is brainwashing kids into accepting predatory monetization practices. It’s the server owners themselves. It’s actually a genius move on Microsoft’s part. Have a bunch of random people brainwash kids into accepting predatory monetization systems. And have them take all the backlash and blame for it while you sit back and pretend that the problem doesn’t even exist! Then when these kids grow up it will be a lot easier to sell your own shitty micro transactions and monetization systems become the kids will have already been brainwashed into thinking it’s normal by Minecraft server owners and you didn’t even have to lift a finger and potentially get backlash if you had tried to do the same yourself! Maybe companies like EA should take notes?
They won’t do anything about it because it makes them look bad when they’re doing the exact same thing in the Bedrock shop: persuading gullible children to spend their parents money. Even if it’s not P2W like these servers, they’re still engaging in similar predatory activities, while preaching about their commitment to kid-friendliness, and rather than actually addressing damaging actors in the community, Microsoft will continue to try and outdo them with their own horrendous tactics.
I'll never forget when CaptainSparklez was sponsored by a SUPER P2W Pokemon Minecraft server. Super scummy loot boxes for awful cosmetics, Legendary/Mythical Pokemon, shiny Pokemon, etc. Sure some of it's cosmetic, but the Legendary/Mythical Pokemon offer a huge advantage for most players and would otherwise require who knows how much grinding. I think the server was called Anubis or something, I'm sure the videos of it are still up.
It makes you wonder what's going on behind the scenes for the server to go whitelist only and not make any announcement at all, and ghost the playerbase.
That would be literal online gambling with minecraft items as casino chips. In many countries (including mine) the server would be shut down for offering unregulated gambling to children.
The thing that boggles my mind is that there is a Python library that can parse and write NBT data. Any duping activity could be detected with like 5% of server's computation resources and auto-ban any offender. But those who want to farm monies via p2w servers are too lazy to do that.

As a Software Engineer by profession and someone who used to write Minecraft Plugins for fun while in college, this grotesque lack of validation brought a server to it's figurative knees. Really interesting video. Good work. The moral of the story: If you are being paid by a Minecraft Server to Professionally write a program/plugin.. Don't suck. fyi, If you want a plugin Professionally written, I'll do it for you, but I'm not some random developer who will do it for $15 like on Spigot. I'd charge $2500 for a somewhat Complicated Plugin, or more if you have a feature list longer than my Starbucks history. $2500 is 15 - 20 hours of my time as a Major in Computer Science with 7 years of experience.
TheMisterEpic is the most dedicated duper of them all. Some of them are somehow doing them for clout, but this TH-camr is very serious in his job. In my opinion, he's one of the verified dupers in their job.
As long as it's only p2w servers being targeted, I'm all for it. Would they/you guys ever do it to a non-p2w server that has Cosmetic crates for sale, but then keep all the other crates free-to-earn?
Personally, I wouldnt even target p2w servers without crates. The only thing I target is crates, as I believe some degree of p2w is almost required for these servers to survive. Cosmetic crates are fine imo
Unfortunately I find that this creates many copycats who attack small servers that just so happen to have a crates plugin. The server I play on has no ways to purchase keys, you just get one daily and otherwise from participating in weekly events and the rewards tend to be rather small when they are not being cosmetics. Still, it feels like every 2-3 weeks there's a group of kids who try to copy horizon and MrEpic and try to poorly lag out the server (they are usually caught within minutes as they all uncreatively use the same method)

If you don't have the money to host a server then don't host it, what gives you the right to profit from an IP that is not yours. @@CloudTheCollector First of all, leaving a PC on will not impact your electricity bill in any meaningful way, and if it does, then again, don't do it if you can't afford it, or better yet, get a job. Second, I have never heard of purchasing plugins, every plugin should be open source and trusting some random closed source plugin is more trouble than worth. Third, P2W is bad point blank period, no server, ever, should have p2w aspects. This sort of mindset is what got us here in the first place.
I know some people are gonna be mad about him ending an entire server. Something someone took the time to create and hire. But at the end of the day that person lost their way and greed found theirs. And comeuppance has come. ✊

@@effyvanitybut saying “if you can’t afford to host a server don’t make it” one could simply just say if you can’t afford to pay to help keep a server going don’t play it. Server owners should be working their best to try and provide the best experience possible for their players. And if their players are happy then why should anything else matter. Once again. There are steps several servers should be taking to make things more accessible f2p but server owners deserve to be compensated for their efforts. That’s why Microsoft allows servers to create a business within their game as long as they keep things balanced
@@CloudTheCollector First of all, leaving a PC on will not impact your electricity bill in any meaningful way, and if it does, then again, don't do it if you can't afford it, or better yet, get a job. Second, I have never heard of purchasing plugins, every plugin should be open source and trusting some random closed source plugin is more trouble than worth. Third, P2W is bad point blank period, no server, ever, should have p2w aspects. This sort of mindset is what got us here in the first place.
