this is a complete lie lol, i played cosmic and it wasnt that easy, you def could buy your way up but through the blackmarkets by players not by the server
I knew someone who lost about $300 buying ranks and crap on another server. He was then permanently banned because he gave some pretty tame constructive criticism of the server. These servers are designed to get you to buy ranks, then players stick around due to the sunk cost fallacy, throwing in the odd five bucks here and there. I stuck around for longer than I should've, but I never paid anywhere near THAT much. Thirty bucks over a few years, tops. What ended it for me was what happened to that guy. I was out soon after.
It’s an open secret to almost everyone at the time that almost all factions servers during the mid-2010s had P2W aspects. Many of those had gambling mechanics in it.
It’s rough to see, especially since some of us played before the factions game mode existed in 2010. Usually popular servers had a small crew of guys, the owner and maybe a developer, then another helper. That was it. It seems in this case it was atleast a dozen dedicated people. They hit the nail on the head and made off with a lot.
I don't believe for a second that modern players won't play a complicated server. If you ask me, the bigger issue is finding them without already being in the community.
People don't play in "simple" servers because players have to, you know, play the real Minecraft hard survival experience and behave like an adult to deal with other players.
@@Bryzerse I have no clue what they're talking about, but I believe that it makes ease of joining the server easier if its simpler, as its less overwelming. I think a more major factor is how much you need to spend on the game to get anywhere

As a week one player of cosmic skyblock, and past cosmic prisons and pvp player, I completely agree it needs to be shut down completely. At this point, the administrators AppleOfficial and LDram on the server don't care about simple player feedback and criticism. The community sits there and calls you weird the second you share any dislike of the system or moderation. Just yesterday I called out the admins in the general chat for permanently banning people who had spent hundreds of their hard earned money over discord screenshots of all things! When I called them out, the majority of the community came to meat ride them all and to call me crazy and other names for merely being upset they wouldn't even listen to my criticism or feedback despite me being apart of the community for close to 6 years now.

I remember being younger and being so excited for the CosmicPrisons release. Back then I actually enjoyed Prison servers and I was willing to just grind with my buddy and chat long into the night. Nowadays, I regret the fact that I bought ranks on that server because of just how... Disgusting it was. The grind was soul-crushingly mind-numbing, especially for people like me who don't particularly like PvP or trying to join clans/guilds. I likely would've given up entirely on the server so much sooner if I hadn't bought a rank for it..
@@fujster It was, it was. But that's exactly the kinda reason why it's good that Epic's calling out this kinda stuff. When we're younger, we tend to have a LOT looser grasp on the concept of money. Back then, buying a rank felt like no big deal at all nowadays. Now? Even a ten dollar rank is something to think about and weigh carefully. Don't get me wrong, back then, I was absolutely willing to grind F2P, it was actually kinda fun to my younger brain. But to that same brain, getting those kit materials and either using them or selling them on the AH was even more fun. It's a predatory sort of market system to it's very core (which even og-network isn't entirely free from) but at least with ranks, it's a one and done thing. Predatory to a younger audience, but not nearly as harmful as loot crates and the like.

Old cosmic was so fun, still talk to friends I made almost a decade ago to this day. But I had to quit at one point because it was either grind hundreds of hours while having plugs to get you certain stuff or pay money, and I didn't have either as a middle schooler. Nothing will come close to replicating that feeling that og Cosmic or even og factions in general gave me.

Missed opportunity to mention their tumour of a "Community Manager" ypperin. Cosmic was generally seen as a meme server in the competitive community. You played Cosmic if you; were willing to spend your paycheck/birthday money, were a fanboy, or "Couldn't hang". Servers like Saico and TreasureWars soon followed suit with the monetization methods used to squeeze parent's money out of children. These methods along with the overwhelming amount of money incentive (Payouts) entering the community is what killed factions.
Erin was known to be a very serious person. Not a simple CM to bite with. We can’t even count the innumerable amounts of her insane outbursts that were uploaded onto the internet at full blast.
This server was my entire childhood. Jungle planet player for almost 7 years, interstellar with a bunch of rep. I loved it. Did I have to spend some money to succeed? Yes. Do I look back it now and realize how wrong that was? Yes. Does it mean I don’t have over 2000 hours of good memories on it? No. I loved cosmic pvp. I miss it.
2013 player here. Made many cannon concepts, played with ypperin (cosmic manager), ran a cannon server for 5 years etc. If you ever got raided by some weird cannon or perhaps an L stacker, my bad 😂
this is how its always been. cartoons were made to sell toys. minecraft youtubers that market themselves towards children end goal is always a p2w minecraft server. hell even look at sundee's recent server. even he said the prices were disgusting. people have always taken advantage of how easily a child can get their parents to spend money. edit: i'd say any server that has a store you can spend real money on is aimed at exploiting people anywys. None of the items have any actual value, and even then the server owners themselves decide what the value is for those items. none of its tangible, and scarcity is fake and manufactured to manipulate people into thinking what they're getting is worth it. It's almost exactly how mobile games try and fomo people into spending money like "leaving soon 900x value" when there is no actual value there, what so ever. 900x could just as easily be 50000x or just the normal going price. because it's arbitrary and the owners decide what its worth with no over sight or regulation at all. No way the dude who made this video has a server you can buy a 200$ rank on. sure its not as egregious as the other servers but come on man, you know nothing you're giving players is worth that much money.

As someone who played this server, its really sad to see it put into light how bad it truly was. I played from 2014-2023, had nearly 9k hours and I payed thousands on this server. It used to be one of the best servers to play on especially when enchants didnt go over legendary/orange. Soul enchants were nice, but once they introduced the pink enchants (dont even know their names) it was game over. New players would leave after 2 days of playing because of how complex and money based the game was, and even me. I would watch preston and woofless nearly every episode and I hung onto the server and I would keep buying lootboxes until I checked my paypal and saw I spent over $3500. Quitting the server saved me thousands more and it hurts to see that someone you looked up to and watching was just there to make money off you. To this day Ill never forgive preston and woofless for that.

I used to play factions servers specifically _not_ to participate in PVP and instead just give people things. That playstyle got less and less viable over time, with folks wrecking my base unprovoked more often the longer I played. Last couple times my base got wrecked before I'd even harvested my first run of crops.
hot take. Cosmic pvp was really fun and enjoyable when custom enchants were limited to 5-8 and there were no God sets like yeti, etc. Even with some p2w mechanics everything was grindable and you could get free rank vouchers out of warzone drops or by working AH to buy it. I got a top 3 rank from doing so early and before the server closed I was able to save and purchase interstellar (highest rank) with in-game currency.

As a week one player of cosmic skyblock, and past cosmic prisons and pvp player, I completely agree it needs to be shut down completely. At this point, the administrators AppleOfficial and LDram on the server don't care about simple player feedback and criticism. The community sits there and calls you weird the second you share any dislike of the system or moderation. Just yesterday I called out the admins in the general chat for permanently banning people who had spent hundreds of their hard earned money over discord screenshots of all things! When I called them out, the majority of the community came to meat ride them all and to call me crazy and other names for merely being upset they wouldn't even listen to my criticism or feedback despite me being apart of the community for close to 6 years now.
A whole bio about being a wholesome TH-camr for children and about loving Jesus and he went and made several illegal casinos for 7 year old. Well done for the moral high ground Preston

I remember being younger and being so excited for the CosmicPrisons release. Back then I actually enjoyed Prison servers and I was willing to just grind with my buddy and chat long into the night. Nowadays, I regret the fact that I bought ranks on that server because of just how... Disgusting it was. The grind was soul-crushingly mind-numbing, especially for people like me who don't particularly like PvP or trying to join clans/guilds. I likely would've given up entirely on the server so much sooner if I hadn't bought a rank for it..

@@fujster It was, it was. But that's exactly the kinda reason why it's good that Epic's calling out this kinda stuff. When we're younger, we tend to have a LOT looser grasp on the concept of money. Back then, buying a rank felt like no big deal at all nowadays. Now? Even a ten dollar rank is something to think about and weigh carefully.
Don't get me wrong, back then, I was absolutely willing to grind F2P, it was actually kinda fun to my younger brain. But to that same brain, getting those kit materials and either using them or selling them on the AH was even more fun. It's a predatory sort of market system to it's very core (which even og-network isn't entirely free from) but at least with ranks, it's a one and done thing. Predatory to a younger audience, but not nearly as harmful as loot crates and the like.

Old cosmic was so fun, still talk to friends I made almost a decade ago to this day. But I had to quit at one point because it was either grind hundreds of hours while having plugs to get you certain stuff or pay money, and I didn't have either as a middle schooler. Missed opportunity to mention their tumour of a "Community Manager" ypperin. Cosmic was generally seen as a meme server in the competitive community. You played Cosmic if you; were willing to spend your paycheck/birthday money, were a fanboy, or "Couldn't hang". Servers like Saico and TreasureWars soon followed suit with the monetization methods used to squeeze parent's money out of children. These methods along with the overwhelming amount of money incentive (Payouts) entering the community is what killed factions.
Erin was known to be a very serious person. Not a simple CM to bite with. We can’t even count the innumerable amounts of her insane outbursts that were uploaded onto the internet at full blast.

This server was my entire childhood. Jungle planet player for almost 7 years, interstellar with a bunch of rep. I loved it. Did I have to spend some money to succeed? Yes. Do I look back it now and realize how wrong that was? Yes. Does it mean I don’t have over 2000 hours of good memories on it? No. I loved cosmic pvp. I miss it.

this is how its always been. cartoons were made to sell toys. minecraft youtubers that market themselves towards children end goal is always a p2w minecraft server. hell even look at sundee's recent server. even he said the prices were disgusting. people have always taken advantage of how easily a child can get their parents to spend money.
edit: i'd say any server that has a store you can spend real money on is aimed at exploiting people anywys. None of the items have any actual value, and even then the server owners themselves decide what the value is for those items. none of its tangible, and scarcity is fake and manufactured to manipulate people into thinking what they're getting is worth it.
It's almost exactly how mobile games try and fomo people into spending money like "leaving soon 900x value" when there is no actual value there, what so ever. 900x could just as easily be 50000x or just the normal going price. because it's arbitrary and the owners decide what its worth with no over sight or regulation at all.

As someone who played this server, its really sad to see it put into light how bad it truly was. I played from 2014-2023, had nearly 9k hours and I payed thousands on this server. It used to be one of the best servers to play on especially when enchants didnt go over legendary/orange. Soul enchants were nice, but once they introduced the pink enchants (dont even know their names) it was game over. New players would leave after 2 days of playing because of how complex and money based the game was, and even me. I would watch preston and woofless nearly every episode and I hung onto the server and I would keep buying lootboxes until I checked my paypal and saw I spent over $3500. Quitting the server saved me thousands more and it hurts to see that someone you looked up to and watching was just there to make money off you. To this day Ill never forgive preston and woofless for that.

I used to play factions servers specifically _not_ to participate in PVP and instead just give people things.
That playstyle got less and less viable over time, with folks wrecking my base unprovoked more often the longer I played.
Last couple times my base got wrecked before I'd even harvested my first run of crops.
When I was younger. I almost brought rank or set for prison. Because the grind was very hard because people with ranks got so much special treatment.

hot take. Cosmic pvp was really fun and enjoyable when custom enchants were limited to 5-8 and there were no God sets like yeti, etc. Even with some p2w mechanics everything was grindable and you could get free rank vouchers out of warzone drops or by working AH to buy it. I got a top 3 rank from doing so early and before the server closed I was able to save and purchase interstellar (highest rank) with in-game currency.
