    Love the crop tops but I would not recommend walking around with a shirt that says 'solo', even with a language barrier. So many local men asking you if you're alone, it's not wise to advertise it. I usually respond that my friends are at the hotel sleeping off their hangover...

      Wow!! How did you meet people?

    • @ThisIsRyanWilsonLive
      @ThisIsRyanWilsonLive 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@akeridae I primarily made friends at the different hostels I visited. I’d meet people over drinks one evening then the next day we’d be exploring something new together. With that said, having the flexibility to do whatever you want is a huge part of what makes it so special, if I wanted to climb a volcano & nobody else did, I’d simply climb the volcano & meet people during that experience.

      @@ThisIsRyanWilsonLive That’s fantastic mate, I’m only 19 years old but i’m hoping to solo travel for my first time once i get enough money sorted and when things seem to get more normal. Just one question though did you work at all on your travels? If not how did you keep yourself occupied?

    • @ThisIsRyanWilsonLive
      @ThisIsRyanWilsonLive 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@hearditb4 depends what you define as work. I didn’t carry a formal job remotely or work in the different places I visited. I did however make videos of all my travels so I spent a fair amount of time filming, editing & promoting the videos outside of enjoying the culture, food & friends I’d make along the way.

    I chose Sri Lanka as my first solo backpacking trip ever, no group tours, no hostels, just me on the road, travelling by public transport for a month. Sri Lankans stare at you, I knew that before I went. Just stare back and then smile, and most likely the smile was/will be returned. Most people speak excellent English. It's a beautiful place with great culture and food. Not a big party scene there which is what I prefer. Just very chill. I went a few months after the bombings that took place in April, so I got some really great deals on accommodation. Free Visa entry to visit for most countries at the moment so don't be scared because its AMAZING.

    Hello! Loved your video. I am from South Africa. We are the most "Westernised" country on the African continent. Backpacking along our coastline from Cape Town up the East Coast until Durban provides many great and safe opportunities where you can experience our cultures (of which South Africa has a few). The Otter Trail is South Africa's oldest hiking trail which runs along the East Coast. Definately a must do if you enjoy the outdoors with huts to sleep in. Addo elephant park also runs just inland of the East Cost where you will be able to view the Big 5 with five star accomodation in the park.

      Morbo42 depends what you want to do. If you want to do cities Brisbane and Melbourne are the most liveable and really chill with good food scenes. Sydney is a bit overrated. Adelaide is good base if also wanting to see some countryside where there are loads of wineries. In terms of natural beauty and wanting to come over summer travelling anywhere on the east coast is your best bet. I suggest starting anywhere around Byron/Yamba in the south and travelling north towards cairns or vice versa. Sunshine Coast is always pumping in the summer. Hope you enjoy it :)

    Just wanted to say for anyone who might be interested in solo travelling in the US, I did a group tour a few years ago through a company called Trek America and had the best experience! They have a TON of different tours to choose from depending on where you want to go, length of time, whether you want to camp or stay in proper accommodation (or a mix of both which is what mine was). I did the 3 week ‘Southern Sun’ tour and it was amazing. Would 100% recommend! Xx

    My recommendation for first time europe, do a Camino de Santiago. Even though you may be a solo traveler, you are very rarely alone. Many other people/pilgrims are going the same way as you. And towns along the way are generally friendly towards visitors, and the path is quite well sign posted. A must do. The alburgues/hostels are good value for money.

    I chose to do a short solo trip just to test-drive things before committing to a big trip, and kind of tacked it on to the end of a week-long trip in Washington DC with my parents. I'm from Canada, so the destination fit all my criteria of being out of the country, different political climate than I'm used to, but still safe and easy to navigate as a tourist. Accommodation is expensive and the hostels aren't great, but there's a LOT of fun things to do that are free or inexpensive.
    I'd really encourage anyone considering a long solo backpacking trip to do a little test run like that first. Don't go too far from home, set a strict budget for yourself, and keep a little journal of what you're learning about travel along the way. It will help you know how you want to travel in future, what compromises you're willing to make to save money, and what kind of experiences you're looking to enjoy.

    I also recommend Ireland as well (obviously Europe but an underrated gem). A bit pricey but a decent backpacking scene. A recommended route would be Dublin (coz you'd probably land there- spend 1 night and leave), do Northern Ireland and then the Wild Atlantic Way (start at Co. Donegal) You could also go south first towards Waterford, Kilkenny and Wexford, then go northwards on the Wild Atlantic Way (starting at Co. Cork).

    In the US, there is a train called the Zephyr Amtrak and it can take you all through the US. They even provide beds and meals and it is not too expensive! I would recommend it if you want to visit the US. Lots of beautiful hiking and camping spots to see especially in the National Parks.

    Bit of an odd one... but my first (completely) solo trip is going to be Orlando! Staying on site at Walt Disney World for one week and one week on site at Universal next September/October!
    I’ve been to Sydney before. I travelled there on my own but I done a group tour. I’m also travelling the east coast of Australia and Bali next March-June but again with a group tour. So Orlando would be my first completely solo trip!
    I’ve watched vlogs of people going alone and it looks amazing! Being able to do what to do what you want when you want. Also being able to take advantage of the single rider lines sounds pretty cool. I’d get more done being on my own compared to with friends/family. Super anxious though but I’m sure it’ll be a trip of a lifetime😊

    Can you make a video about budget solo travel destinations?

  • @TheShauNanigans
    @TheShauNanigans 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You should definitely look into Iceland as a backpacking destination. Day to day living expenses are definitely pricey, but if you go during a time of year when you can rent a van and camp, you will not regret the extra money you spend on food.
    Just be aware that if you end up getting a cold you need a prescription for cold medicine. #DontBeLikeMe

    the us and canada are great for road trips, and if you want to go to a particular city I'd do it solo easy but like a free form jump on a bus or train or hitchhike (which is relatively regarded as unsafe and is frowned upon here) to a new city i don't think is the best idea because there are limited options and everything is so spread out (it would take approx. 40 hours to drive from coast to coast)

    From my experience, travelling solo in USA is best done with a tour group like Contiki. I did that on the west coast, there were 60 people on the bus from around the world and it was so much fun! Also, I think Europe is great for solo travellers because it feels more like home and relaxed, though is very expensive. I've done many day bus tours or walking tours where I met some cool people that way

    I’m from Hawaii... small islands. I’m based in Santa Monica, California now. Traveling around USA is interesting for a solo travel... I’ve done it but not as fun. My first solo trip was 11 years ago I went to Thailand for 1 month and had so much fun. Since then I’ve been going out of country at least twice a year over the 11 years. Been everywhere except South America. I hope to go to South America in 2020. This year I went to Egypt and the Philippines. In the Philippines I flew from island to island. I’m heading to Lebanon, Jordan and back to Egypt in January 2020 ✈️ being a content creator I’m vlogging so I never felt lonely. I really enjoyed North and South Africa, Nepal/Himalayans, anywhere in Asia and Europe. Been to Japan 3x and Singapore and it’s been a highlight in my travel life! Congratulations on your clothing line! Very cool 💞✈️

    Hi, I went to India on World Challenge last summer (yes, my name is also India!) and just wanted to share some info. I was 16 and went with a large (I think there were 30 students) group of people - a load of 15-17 year olds, 4 teachers and a couple of World Challenge leaders. Not sure how it fairs for backpacking, but Ladakh (we went to a place called Leh) is a wonderful place to start. Unlike Delhi or Agra, it's a lot calmer, friendlier, and I felt a lot more safe and secure there. The weather (in July) was nice - warm but not super humid and the mountains (it's stunning!!) protect you from the monsoons. From there, there are many treks you can do in the Stok (we did Stok Kangri (6, 153m)) or Zanskar ranges.
    I only spent a few days in Agra (and only really went to Dehli as a stop-off point) but woah completely different place. VERY humid and sticky and hot, a bit of an assault on the senses, constant harassment from market sellers. I would not feel safe or confident solo travelling there at all. Especially as a (very pale) white female teenager I attracted a lot of attention, and I don't even know how many random Indian men took photos of my face (I don't want to know either). Agra smells a lot (couldn't even describe it) and is very smoggy. (in contrast to Ladakh which is hard to breathe in initially because its 3,500m above sea level but the air is lovely and clean and fresh!)
    Didn't go anywhere else (though I'd love love to return to do Goa, Mumbai, Kerala, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Rajasthan and of course I'd love to go back to Ladakh) but I think I'd rather go with some fellow backpackers or a partner because it's all pretty intense.
    If you are interested in either Agra or Ladakh (particularly Leh), I'm happy to chat :)
