  • In this episode Justin sits down with one of the best watch photographers in the game! Mr Chris Beccan, the founder of Bexsonn the well know insider blog on watches and whiskey. Chris has just started working for Watches of Knightsbridge so it was the perfect time to discuss his Rolex 5512 Submariner and Datejust! Enjoy.

This guy should start a TH-cam channel. It’s nice to see representation from all walks of life in the community.

Exactly. Hast is ok, I don't hate him, but he only ever interviews people who look like him and have the same experiences, and even wearing the same clothes (probably Reiss). The same middle-class 30-something white blokes who have tens of thousands to spend on watches (they can borrow from their daddy). Although they pretend to not have daddy's money. They do of course have daddy's money; they just pretend not to. So he has interviewed an apparently 'normal' bloke who has £65,000 to spend on a Laurent Ferrier. That is not normal Justin. Get real man..... I am FORTUNATE that I COULD spend £65,000 on a LF (just a fucking steel with a watch movement - why are we spending £65,000?). But I don't consider myself normal; that would be weird dudes...

Chris raised a VERY GOOD POINT. I recently sent a Rolex Seadweller to Rolex for a service. It dates to 1992, so given that 'vintage' is thirty years or more it is just about vintage. The watch was in SUPERB all-original unpolished condition. The guy at Watches of Switzerland was amazed at how good the condition was (I am an experienced watch buyer; I buy only 'best of class'). WOS gave me an estimate of £950 for a 'full' service. After a couple of weeks, I received an email from WOS saying that after 'inspection' the bezel had some 'damage' and I would need to pay £95 for a replacement bezel. The bezel was in SUPERB condition for thirty years. I certainly DON'T want it changed! (or it will no longer be all-original condition). They also said that the crown had a slight dent. Hmmmmm..... I have owned this watch for a long time; the crown had no eye-visible dent. So they wanted to add these two 'repairs' to the original £950 quote. So what was the £950 for? Beware of Rolex.

To Rolex their watches from yesteryear are always inferior.
Their vision is to constantly iterate and improve.
That’s why there is no Rolex museum, like an Omega or Longines one.
Rolex doesn’t look into their heritage they always look forward.
The best Rolex for Rolex is the current one.
For collectors it’s quite the opposite.
But then again Rolex doesn’t care about it’s customers.
It’ll never have shortage of them.
At least it seems that way.

Buy what noone else is buying if you want to get value.
I love how perfectly imperfect those vintage watches are.
Real heavy hitters from the crown.
The engine turned bezel on the 1601 DJ looks great. It’s in between flat and fluted
    Interesting but not flashy.

Be careful with Rolex’s service center. I sent my father in law’s date just there to be serviced. He didn’t want it refinished at all and i made note of that in all caps on the invoice. I then receive a call a couple weeks later and it’s Rolex telling me they accidentally polished the case of watch. They did apologize and give me a very large discount on the full movement overhaul, but non the less, send your watches in with caution!

I love the way he says your Photography has been standard setting and Christopher just says “Yeah”. Love it.
Great “collection”. I’m down to two, a discontinued Rolex op 114200 with the off white dial and a 34mm JLC MUT with the sapphire back and a cal 849 which is up there with Lange for decoration and detail. I’m really enjoying being down to 2.
    Great vid.

For me, a collection must have at least three watches. A "collection" is defined as "a group of things". A single watch is definitely not a group, two is debatable, for me it's a pair. If you have three or more, you can call it a collection. Callt it a two watch SELECTION.

Nice watches but too Rolex focus which mirrors most Rolex enthusiasts who are not always watch enthusiast, I like Rolex but there are far more interesting haute horology watches that tells a better story for me. Nice content, I really enjoyed it.

Calling that Sub unpolished is a joke. The lugs are rounded, not sharp. Why would you feel the need to say “unpolished” when I assume you know better?

Excellent 2-watch collection considering W&W ‘23 just ended, and really puts into focus how far Rolex has fallen as a true enthusiast’s watch brand (thankfully they haven’t ruined Tudor yet)… 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Same with Omega unfortunately. They have fallen so far that I wonder if they can ever come back

Agreed. But all guests have more than two, so the job is to whittle it down :) 👊🏼
