@@TheRealMindCrime Suns really made a splash in '05, they kinda came out of nowhere to become a top team in the already loaded West. It's really hard to argue against Nash in '05. For '06, as a Kobe & Lakers fan, I was really disappointed because it was apparent that "best player on best team" held greater weight than any individual performance. If Kobe couldn't win it in '06, I couldn't imagine what type of season an individual player had to have in order to win MVP on a bad team.

Let’s add to this debate that NBA is always looking where they can get eyes on the product; believe it or not they saw in increase viewership from Latin America because of Nash, by “pushing” screen time (promoting) Nash allowed an audience for Latin American to follow him. Remember that during that time NBA had to find ways to get back what they were losing because the viewership is important.

I commented on the original video that Nash definitely deserved his 1st MVP cause he took a Suns team with the same players the previous year that only won 20 games and turned them into a 50+ win team.
You can argue that Kobe deserved the MVP over Nash cause he was having a statistically monster year but his Lakers team was still mid, on the other hand Nash took a team of 'role players' without Amare for the whole season and still got 50+ wins out of them and even made it to the Western Finals.
The MVP is usually given to the 'Best' player but sometimes it is given to the player who was most 'Important' to said team and without Nash that 05-06 Suns team would've been a non playoff team...heck they would've been last in their division or the Western Conference.

Some other bums who never did anything other than collect a paycheck as well. Nash wouldn't have won with those guys, they were not NBA standard players.
As for where he is rated? I have him above CP3 on my list of PG, mainly cuz i think CP3 is way overrated. And Nash does have those MVP's deservedly or not. Soooo.... idk man. He was a great player to have run your team though.
And D'Antoni i couldn't stand. I have to argue u on this. I think this is where the idea of todays NBA came from. Is it different yes, however the concept of being able to just take so many more shots and not play defense looks exactly the same. He did this crap everywhere he went, and every team looked the same doing it. Just like todays game. Jus sayin

@smittyque2567 no it's not. If every team he joins gets so much better tell me how many rings that man has won? And let's not act like he hasn't been on some really good teams. Clippers should've netted him bare minimum 1 ring alone. When I watch him play I see a really good PG not an all time PG.

@TheRealMindCrime I would love for to take a deep dive into how many more possessions per game they got running this style. Because I'm curious as to how many more assists this netted Nash? Because most teams took the shot clock down to 4 seconds more often than not back then. So in theory this would give the Suns 3 x more possessions right? How much do u think this inflated his numbers? Honest question, not throwing shade.

  • @keithramoran

    Here's what happened in 2005:
Nash joined a 29 win Suns, he replaced Marbury and vet Penny Hardaway, they also acquired Nash's former Mavs teammate Raja Bell and they go on to win 62. So from a 29 win team adding Nash and Bell made them a 62 win team the best in the NBA that year.
Shaq joined the Heat, a fourth place finisher in the East the year before, who was led by rookie DWade to a 1st round playoff win. So for those who forget DWade's greatness and celebrate CP3's rookie run, DWade actually did better than him in their rookie seasons.
Both Heat and Suns lost in the conference finals.
So with that, Nash has the edge and definitely deserves the MVP.
    In 2006:
The Lakers not only had no business being in the playoffs that year, they should not have finished 7th in the West. This was the year Kobe scored 81 points and the Lakers almost upset the Suns (they were up 3-1) in the 1st round. I think they gave Nash the award because they beat the Lakers (this was the time the season MVP was given during the WCF/ECF, a way to narrow down who should receive the trophy) but if you think about it Kobe had a solid case there.
All in all Nash also deserves the MVP but if it was up to me Kobe should've had this one.
