45-year-old here and I feel totally confident in stating that anyone around my age also had a huge crush on Elisabeth Shue when this movie was popular.
Yup 💯
Aye!
And Linda Kozlowski from Crocodile Dundee. Always.

The scene with Albert Collins, a legend, was epic. They had so much fun filming it and it shows.
Vincent D'Onofrio had Adventures in Babysitting come out in the theatre at the same time as Full Metal Jacket . I saw both in the theatre. Put a picture from each movie of him together and it blows your mind it's the same guy.
AIB is probably one of the best 80s movies ever made. Also, one of the most underrated aspects is the great soundtrack!
1) Sam Cooke - Bring It On Home To Me.
2) Rolling Stones - Gimmie Shelter
3) The Crystals- Then He Kissed Me.
4) Iggy Pop - Real Wild Child
5) Edwin Starr - Twenty-Five Miles
"Nobody leaves without singin' the Blues." To this day, if somebody opens a conversation with "I woke up this morning," my family members respond with "Da-DAA-da-dun."
Nice to see the super cute Amelia again!🌹 This is one of my favorite comedies!😆 Here you go, Amelia.🍦 Another fun film in this specific genre is "Don't Tell mom the Babysitter's Dead" (1991) with a young Christina Applegate.😉 I don't think I've seen anyone react to it yet. Another great reaction to this classic 80s comedy, Amelia!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
This is a charm from start to finish love this film I watch it every time it's on.
“Thor” is played by Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, Men In Black)
Kingpin.
He bugs me.
The bus station in this movie is the one in downtown Toronto. They didn't change anything except to move some phone booths to hide an entrance. I'm pretty sure several of the weird people there were not extras too, just regular residents. They have totally renovated and changed it since then.
Back in the 80's my then gf (now wife) and I would meet up there when I bussed into town (a LDR at the time) so it is kind of a special place for me and I'm glad it is preserved on film in it's 80's form.
I lived in TO in the 80s. I thought I was the only one to know it was TO. The Toy Store Sara stares at was on Bloor St. Just a block south-west of Young Street. From 1985-90 Toronto was awesome. Sadly not now.
@@reesebn38 It really was great back then. I worked downtown in the early 90's at Bell Trinity Square right behind the Eaton's Center for a while. The Big Slice, Sam the Record Man, The Worlds Biggest Bookstore, Honest Ed's were all nearby.
Brenda was played by Penelope Ann Miller. I crushed on her so hard, when she played opposite Danny DeVito in "Other People's Money", and Alec Baldwin in "The Shadow", and despite having watched this at least every 2 weeks through high school, I never realized she was in this until a year or so ago.
I loved her in The Shadow movie. super cute awww
I watched this in the theater back in the day.
Great reaction Amelia to a 80s classic havent seen this movie in years very funny
Glad you enjoyed! It’s such a fun movie!
Yay! Another Chicago movie!! Directed by Chris Columbus who directed Home Alone...also in Chicago.
Amelia... production designer Todd Hallowell reconstructed the top 2 stories of the Stone Container Building (diamond shaped skyscraper) for that scene. A lot of the movie was filmed in Toronto...made to look like Chicago.
The actor who played the mechanic Dawson (thor) is a very young Vincent D'onofrio. He was in Men in Black as the main roach alien in the Edgar suit, and the TV show Law and Order Criminal Intent.
He was also most notably the “fat boy” Leonard (Pvt. Pyle) in Full Metal Jacket (1987), the SAME YEAR he was the svelte Thor in this movie!
and full metal jacket (june 26 1987), and released one week prior to adventures in babysitting (july 1 1987)
@@swk38 Crazy it's the same person! I saw both in the theatre.
And Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime! Those MCU variants can look like ANYONE!
26:57 - It's ok Amelia, we're all 10-year olds when it comes to hot dog and weiner innuendo jokes.
We’re all Michael Scott making a “That’s what she said!” joke
OMG... I've seen this 1000 times when I was younger...i never realized before that Daryl was Anthony Rapp😳😳.
But i also haven't seen this since i saw him on Broadway in RENT and learned who he was🤷
Rapp co-founded Broadwaycon, after attending San Diego Comic-Con.
@@Madbandit77 love him... just never connected that he was in one of my top 5 childhood movies 🤷
Ahh, such memories with this film. Elisabeth Shue is adorable, Maia Brewton is great (I was such a huge fan of Parker Lewis Can't Lose), plus Vincent d'Onofrio as Thor and oh that young Penelope Ann Miller....
10 year old me saw this when it came out and got a big crush on Elizabeth Shue. I also loved the movie and watched it over and over.
Amelia seems as sweet as Whimsory.
High praise
When the dust fell into the drink, I thought I recognized the coffee cup. Either my parents or my grandparents had a set of cups just like that.
those are Fire King "Kimberly" mugs by Anchor Hocking
so 70s haha
You often don't notice what you don't expect to see. I once hid behind an indoor fake tree about 15 feet from a friend of mine. He was facing me and never noticed.
Oh yeah, the family had money. While singing her blues song, she mentioned being from Oak Park, one of the wealthiest suburbs of Chicago (and probably still highly segregated, like most of Chicago remains to this day). '80s teen movies set in Chicago, from John Hughes to this, often filmed in tony areas like Winnetka et al. If you want a more diverse Chicago movie geographically and otherwise, check out "The Blues Brothers."
So long since I've seen that movie. My GF loved it too. You did a great reaction, especially vibing to the blues. Thank you so much.
My parents owned a video store in London in the 80s. This was one of the titles and we watched it so many times. Definitely a family favourite. They don't make films like this anymore, sadly.
The guy who looks like THOR was also in " Full Metal Jacket " as Gomer Pyle
I felt sorry for the man stuck outside on the window because he was actually trying to save the girl from dying.
one of my farorite childhood movies
13:25 ~ Good acting 😆
The Peach Cobbler Blizzard is the bomb!
Had Chris just babysat at the house, this movie could not be named ADVENTURES in Babysitting. It's all the antics that make it the appropriate title.
Blues guitarist Albert Collins.
Don't know if you were being sarcastic when saying (all they wanted were the notes in the playboy this whole time) because the babysitter & kids didn't know but you me & everyone else knew or should have known. Since he was sent upstairs to get the playboy with his notes, or maybe you missed that (but they said it many times)
Glad you enjoyed *Elisabeth Shue* landed some of the 80's Classics
*(The Karate Kid)*
*(Adventures in Babysitting)*
*(Back to the Future 2&3)*
Etc...
To think that both, "Full Metal Jacket" and this, came out the same year.
Private Paula sure did come a long way...
Paula??? It was Private Pyle.... as in the tv show Gomer Pyle, USMC.
@@bossfan49
Yes, Private "Paula".
Maybe watch the movie again.
@@o.b.7217 Are you watching it in German? Because if you watch the original American release...in English, he literally says "From now on, you're Gomer Pyle!". Look up the cast listing on Wikipedia or IMDb. It says Private Pyle.
@@o.b.7217 from the cast listing and notes in Wikipedia:
"Vincent D'Onofrio as Private Leonard "Gomer Pyle"[a] Lawrence, an overweight, slow-minded recruit who is the subject of Hartman's mockery. D'Onofrio heard from Modine of the auditions for the film. D'Onofrio recorded his audition using a rented video camera and was dressed in army fatigues. According to Kubrick, Pyle was "the hardest part to cast in the whole movie"; Modine suggested D'Onofrio to Kubrick, so he cast him in the part.[12][13] D'Onofrio was required to gain 70 pounds (32 kg).[14][15]"
Look closely... who's the blonde Thor guy? Gomer Pyle, Full Metal Jacket!😮😮😮
You should check out Don't tell Mom the Babysitters Dead
Great movie and great reaction!
So glad you enjoyed! 😊
I noticed the doctor didn't even try to catch her when she fainted. 😐
doctors don't get paid if people are healthy, silly
amelia u are sooo adorable!
🤗 thank youuu
That lady is from back to the future part 2
Elisabeth Shue was in Back to the Future 2 & 3, and Maia Brewton (Sara Anderson) was in Back to the Future as Lorraine's little sister in the 50's.
I thought she looked familiar!
pre-marvel movies, that reference seemed so random )
You gotta sing the blues.
The villain has a scary voice. I bet his done a lot of voice acting.
FYI the movie on D+ is a tv edit one. their is a F Bomb that is removed from the D+ streaming one. i don't recommend watching that one.
but Playboy talk is ok
If an F bomb makes or breaks a movie for you, why bother watching it at all?!
Hi! Somehow this video is unlisted. So it’s very difficult to find. Of course maybe you did that on purpose? Anyway, I love Amelia’s reactions and if she’s (you’ve) never seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail (and, after, perhaps Life if Brian) I think it is specifically her/your sense of humor.
MY sense of humor would direct you to A Night At The Opera and then Duck Soup.
I love everyone’s reactions. Keep up the great work!
Only people who check the playlist get early access - just a fun game we play with videos that are done but have yet to premiere. You never know what surprises you’ll find on our playlists!
Cool! Well, I stand by my comment. If she’s never seen it, I think Monty Python and the Holy Grail is specifically Amelia’s sense of humor.
Cheers!
That was a great 80s home, but the average income wasn't so out of whack with the average home price back then. You could be upper-middle-class and afford a 3-car garage. Today, you better be worth at least 7 digits for that kind of home. It's messed up.
It's been forever since I saw this movie. I didn't realize how many future big names in Hollywood were part of this cast. Bradley Whitford, Penelope Ann Miller, Vincent D'Onofrio -- wow.
Disney re-made this movie in 2016, almost 30 years after the original. I saw a little bit of the blues club scene from the remake. I highly doubt the 2016 version was as harrowing as the original.
It’s absolutely ridiculous. My parents bought my childhood home in 1993 (4 bed, 3.5 bath, 2-car garage, quiet suburban neighborhood) for around 150k. I randomly looked it up and it’s estimated to be 900k. The housing market is impossible for those of us born in the 90’s. I use the fact that I work in film and on multiple projects in various locations as an excuse to continue renting.
@@meliakelle That's not an excuse. It's a perfect example of why young people can't afford to make a life for themselves. The average salary hasn't even doubled in the last 30 years, but the average house price multiplied by six times. Six. Times. Greedy corporations and absentee landlords shouldn't be allowed to own single-family dwellings.
Hi Amelia hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Have you seen the sequel it a Disney movie
Do more Chris Columbus movies: Happy Potter 1&2, Home Alone 1&2 & Pixels.
She’s seen all the Harry Potter movies but Coby has not seen any of them. Everyone has seen Home Alones that’s a tough one but we are always looking for reactors with that hole in their movie consumption library. Pixels is only a movie we would watch if someone requested it on our Patreon Movie Request tier.
This always struck me as an odd film. It's pitched somewhere between a kiddie-friendly family film, and a teen romcom, which would make the target audience primarily female. With that in mind, making Thor such a central feature made no sense. Spider-Man and The Hulk had both had successful TV shows, but this was pre-MCU, and I doubt many girls in that target audience had ever heard of Thor. I must admit, I'm kind of interested to see if this will find a whole new audience now that Chris Hemsworth has made the character such an icon.
The 70s Spider-Man TV series lasted one half season (13 episodes).
her cheating boyfriend was in West Wing and Cabin in the Woods
Can you react to band of brothers
My wife and I love this movie don't fuq with the babysitter haha 😂
A good dose of 80's Nostalgia is what i needed and here i am .
The cast does a great job and are very endearing plus i had a crush on Elizabeth Shue 😊
good reaction Amelia it sounds like you have a load of reactions coming up
don't over work yourself too much , you should definitely get some ice cream after all that🍨
sending good vibes your way take care🙏❤
Some trivia:
Dawson, the guy who Sara mistakes for Thor, was played by Vincent D'Onofrio, who would go on to play the character Kingpin in the MCU.
The Playboy magazine was a prop made especially for this movie. The reason the centerfold looks like Chris, is that it IS Elisabeth Shue. She did a special (clothed) photoshoot just so that they could use that joke in the movie.
Two years after this came out, they made a pilot for a TV show. Chris and the kids get trapped in a storm drain junction. Same characters, but different cast. It never got picked up.
@@lurkerrekrul He also played in Full Metal Jacket and Law and Order. Her boyfriend at the beginning played in Revenge of the Nerds. The brother played in Don’t tell mom the babysitter is dead. Brenda played in Kindergarten Cop as the mom on the run.
One of my favorite movies with one of my favorite reviewers!! Nice job Amelia.
Funny how Dawson (Vincent D'Onofrio )playing a "Thor" would later be The Kingpin Wislon Fisk in Marvel's Daredevil series
@joseflores9891 He was also in Full Metal Jacket.
I cancelled Disney + after watching this movie. I use to watch this all the time when l was a kid (It was called A Night on the Town in Australia). I cancelled Disney because they edited out the word homo and F*#k when Chris points the switchblade at the gang member.
I am gonna need to see a video of your dancing getting ready to go out! HAHAHA
Brad is played by actor Keith Coogan. His grandfather was Jackie Coogan who played Uncle Fester in the Addams Family tv series. He also starred in the Charlie Chaplin film The Kid (1921) making him one of the earliest child stars in Hollywood. As an adult he sued his mother and stepfather for squandering his earnings resulting in California's Child Actors Bill (aka the Coogan Act).
The original Thor who later becomes Kingpin
And Gomer Pyle
amelia ur awesome and amazing and beautiful always love watching ur movie reaction vids ur my fav i look forward too ur next reaction vid!
I am in my 70s and even in my 30-40s this was my favorite fun-movie and did have a crush on Elizabeth Shue
This was called "A Niight on the Town" in Australia
It's one of my favorite 80s movies when I was a kid along with Dark Crystal. Given what they did to Thor in the more modern Disney movies that little girl would be sad today when they turned him fat and have his girlfriend taking over his role as that's the last thing I heard about the Thor movies, maybe that's changed since I heard that.
I still do the mouth thingy on the window, and I'm 42, best youth thing
great pick, a chicago classic.
yes but my dad was from Chicago & I have family in Ontario
It's 50/50 LOL
A totally awesome teen adventure-comedy that is a classic. They don't make movies like this anymore, too bad. 🙁 Had a a crush on Elisabeth Shue back then just like every other teenage guy at that time. 🥰

The guy who played Dawson (Thor) also played the alien Bug in the first Men in Black
8:33 why was he standing outside in the bushes?
I remember hiring this movie out from the video shop in the late 80's and it was titled 'A Night on the Town' 🤔
that was in the UK
i think it was because babysitting wasn't a well-known word outside of North America?
@@Gravydog316, the crazy thing was when it was aired on TV here in Australia some years later after I watched the video it was Adventures in Babysitting 🤣
Brad has a history of dumping women in restaurants
We recorded this movie on VHS and I must have watched it dozens of times back in my teens. 25+ years later the Blu Ray comes out, and for the first time ever I saw Brad's little smile at the end.
This has to be one of THE VERY FIRST films with an end credits scene.
I feel like the first time I remember one was Masters of the Universe
Maybe Ferris Bueller (1986).
plenty of product placement for playboy
