    How long did this trail take? To the top?

      Hey thanks for taking the time to comment and watch the video!
      it took me about 3 hrs and 50 min to get to the top (5 miles) roughly. But that includes taking out my drone and stopping to get footage for the video so it can be done faster. Definitely one of the more adventurous hikes on Oahu.

      Thank you for your detailed reply. Last week I tried the same place and tried to get to the Stairway to Heaven. However, I didn't know the route and thought it was a straight line, so I gave up halfway through. This was because I didn't know the route that would take a left turn. This time I watched your video and learned the route. I think I'll try it again. Thank you for the wonderful video. Please keep doing a good job.

      @@yuyasugeno1127 so sorry that you missed the turn! When I did this hike I actually passed the turn as well but then I saw someone in front of me turn around and I asked him if we were supposed to turn at the trail and he said, yes. I followed his lead and it was correct. Next time just watch for that sign on the left side of the trail, you can't miss it! I also recommend to bring some good footwear and even strap on some spikes as a precaution. Good luck!

    Hey man looking to do this hike! Thanks for the vid!! Just wondering the trail says closed on all trails? Is it really? Lolo

    • @Deanfamilytravels
      @Deanfamilytravels  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @lzhoops2523 so the reason it says closed is because being on the haiku stairs/the big satellite dish at the end of the trail is technically illegal. I’ve never seen a security guard at the beginning of this trail but they do have security guards if you go up the stairs.
      So this way you should be fine, just know that being on the stairs themselves and the dish is illegal but this trail leading to it is legal, just be careful as some of the ropes were not there when I went making the trail more difficult. have good shoes and bring spikes that you can put on if need be would be my recommendation.
      good luck!

      @@Deanfamilytravelsencouraging people to break the law is ridiculous. Use spikes? Someone has no regard for the land or its environment. Gtfoh

    How long going up to the satellite dish? Just the one way? I been half way but most people said it was still a hour left where I turned around at.

    • @Deanfamilytravels
      @Deanfamilytravels  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it’s definitely a longer hike. it’s about 5 miles from start point up to the satellite. and the last two miles is when the elevation really starts and it’s harder.

      Maybe 5 hrs? And you just parked on the neighborhood side street right?

    This hike is illegal now. They have a cop sitting at where you started the hike.

    • @Deanfamilytravels
      @Deanfamilytravels  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, while they continue taking down the stairs they want to cut off all access to that area so no injuries occur. This was not the case when I did this hike.

      @@Deanfamilytravels, going on the stairs has been illegal since the 1980s.

  • @TheEODWester
    @TheEODWester 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There is no way to do the stairs legally. It is criminal trespassing. You are going to get someone arrested.

    • @Deanfamilytravels
      @Deanfamilytravels  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At the time this video was made you could legally hike to the top of the Ko’olau’s and overlook Kailua through this trail. But being on the stairs in of itself has always been illegal, yes.
      Hopefully people do their research before attempting this hike as they will quickly find it is closed.

      Its a nice historical record to be able to see the route through video. Why deny people access to that just because someone might not do their own proper research and decide if they want to take their own risks with the consequences.
      I have never been to Hawaii and may never have the chance. To me this video is just a beautiful video of a hike with an interesting story that is amazing to see.
      For locals who used to legally do this hike, I can imagine it would also be important to be able to look back at videos like this and remember a beautiful hike they used to be allowed to do. Views from their youth.. views enjoyed by generations.. that they are being denied access to today.
