Shame on you for exploiting sacred hales, villages, and spots of da aina.
hi how are you doing thanks for do this special video, do you have someway to send the location of this place pls?
hey thanks for checking out this video! Part of the beauty of this place is being able to find out how to get to it. No one gave us any hints to find it but it made it an unforgettable experience finding it. My best advice is to use google satellite and watch my 5 days in Maui video which also has a helpful hint if you catch it.
This hike is illegal now. They have a cop sitting at where you started the hike.
Yes, while they continue taking down the stairs they want to cut off all access to that area so no injuries occur. This was not the case when I did this hike.
@@Deanfamilytravels, going on the stairs has been illegal since the 1980s.
There is no way to do the stairs legally. It is criminal trespassing. You are going to get someone arrested.
At the time this video was made you could legally hike to the top of the Ko’olau’s and overlook Kailua through this trail. But being on the stairs in of itself has always been illegal, yes. Hopefully people do their research before attempting this hike as they will quickly find it is closed.
@@Deanfamilytravels, the right thing to do is take this video down.
Its a nice historical record to be able to see the route through video. Why deny people access to that just because someone might not do their own proper research and decide if they want to take their own risks with the consequences. I have never been to Hawaii and may never have the chance. To me this video is just a beautiful video of a hike with an interesting story that is amazing to see. For locals who used to legally do this hike, I can imagine it would also be important to be able to look back at videos like this and remember a beautiful hike they used to be allowed to do. Views from their youth.. views enjoyed by generations.. that they are being denied access to today.
Kinda contradictory that you call this a “secret” and advertise. It would be respectful to remove the name and location. Locals that share this information do so out of kindness and trust in you. We would never share if we knew you were going to publish it like this. You seem very respectful and had a great visit but you are allowing people that are disrespectful to gain access. Someday they will close it thanks to them it is only a matter of time and would love your help in slowing that process. So many amazing places here have been closed already it’s sad. Hope you can understand and help us out!
This is a sacred site for locals. If you had common decency you would delete this video. If you choose to hike this trail that's up to you, but by sharing it you are disrespecting the locals, and putting tourists in danger of injuries or even death hiking this dangerous trail. This area is prone to flash floods and dangerous falling rocks. Delete this video!!
Thank you for your concern and comment! All of Hawaii is sacred my friend, not just Honomanu Falls. As for disrespect, you do not know me, my wife, and our family and our connection to Hawaii and to the many 'locals' who told us and showed us this place. Any waterfall is prone to flash floods and dangerous falling rocks, especially in Hawaii... go find another video to complain about please. Again thanks for the comment, Mahalo!
I agree. You guys may have been respectful but you’re sharing with thousands that are not.
@@Deanfamilytravels funny how you decided to delete your first rude response. In response to that, I’m really not worried about my comment increasing the views on your wannabe poorly made family blog videos 🤷🏻♂️ You claim you many friends that are locals showed you this hike. Locals don’t hike this trail. There are many signs at the trailhead stating that. You also chose to put the name of the trail in the video giving people ways to find the hike online. Anyone who truly had “local” friends wouldn’t do this. Anyone who’s been to Maui knows this. And to act like this Is a good hike to bring little children on is going to get some people seriously hurt maybe even killed. How about you be a decent human being and stop trying to use this dangerous hike to promote your poorly made videos and channel?
@@Deanfamilytravelsjust because locals show you doesn’t mean kanakas or our kapunas appreciate this one bit. Most locals don’t have half the knowledge. It’s okay to present your adventure but utterly disrespectful to expose the location. Malama pono ka aina !
@@Deanfamilytravelsno one needs to know you to say things disrespectful. Go there with proper intentions and explore by all means but to expose a sacred location we try to kapu Ke haoles is insane. You should take this video down.
Would love to go there. You have done some great videos on maui. Can you please tell me how to get there. I live on maui and always try to seek out new adventures
Thanks for taking the time to watch this video! I can’t give you exact directions because part of the beauty of this place is that there are no precise directions. What I can do to help you is tell you what I did and I was able to find it. If you watch the other video I did about our 5 day trip in Maui it will also give you so other hints as to where this hike is located. Other than that, use google maps on satellite mode to see if you can find it. Parking can be tricky.
Nicely done, not only did you put your infant in danger...you shared to the world that you don't respect his mother! People die at this spot and there's videos of people being helicoptered out due to a minor slip turning into a life threatening injury. Shame 🔔 Shame 🔔 Shame 🔔
I cannot find the second pillbox
Dang, sorry @donaldtrumpy5914. It is only a few minutes walk from the first one. Just keep walking past the first one as it takes you slowly down the ridge and then you will see ahead of you what looks like the end but if you walk towards it you will see the peace pillbox.
@@Deanfamilytravels ok thanks
Very beautiful place, thank u for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
theres natural ginger growing along the ridge too
yes, so many natural beauties along the way.
That's the way to raise kids.
That’s a big AMEN from us!
❤❤❤❤❤how amazing!
It’s so small
If a 40 foot waterfall is classified as small then yes! With that being said it’s definitely one of my favorite waterfall hikes on Oahu. Not very many people know about it so it’s more secluded and there are so many beautiful ‘small’ waterfalls along the way. Just be sure to go during the rainy season when the water is flowing.
How long going up to the satellite dish? Just the one way? I been half way but most people said it was still a hour left where I turned around at.
it’s definitely a longer hike. it’s about 5 miles from start point up to the satellite. and the last two miles is when the elevation really starts and it’s harder.
Maybe 5 hrs? And you just parked on the neighborhood side street right?
Beautiful forest trail, thumbnail is simply stunning! Great work my friend 🔥🔥
@ervinslens thank you! trying to be like you, haha!
Hey man looking to do this hike! Thanks for the vid!! Just wondering the trail says closed on all trails? Is it really? Lolo
@lzhoops2523 so the reason it says closed is because being on the haiku stairs/the big satellite dish at the end of the trail is technically illegal. I’ve never seen a security guard at the beginning of this trail but they do have security guards if you go up the stairs. So this way you should be fine, just know that being on the stairs themselves and the dish is illegal but this trail leading to it is legal, just be careful as some of the ropes were not there when I went making the trail more difficult. have good shoes and bring spikes that you can put on if need be would be my recommendation. good luck!
@@Deanfamilytravelsencouraging people to break the law is ridiculous. Use spikes? Someone has no regard for the land or its environment. Gtfoh
What a beautiful place my friend! This looks and sounds stunning!
It was. I look forward to going back in a month or so when spring hits.
Andre whats up?! Love the video man. That looks like a beautiful place to go hiking. Only 1.5 miles from the parking lot the those falls? May have to take the family there for a little nature hike.
Hey man, thanks! this hike and also Dark Hallow Falls is another waterfall hike that isn’t too long. Brought the whole family for that one.
@@Deanfamilytravels I’ll check out that video too. Hope this channel takes off one day for ya my man!
@@Tristan_Shulerif not, atleast we will have memories to pass down to our children. That way they can’t tell us we never did anything cool with them. 😂
Love family hikes❤
What are the names of all the places you visited and hiked on the first day? :) Absolutely loved the video and your family is beautiful!
@shoteit hey thanks so much. I made separate videos for both of those hikes while we were in Maui. here are the links. they are not official trails you will find on any map. let me know if you have any questions. m.th-cam.com/video/RGGZN6YHISQ/w-d-xo.html m.th-cam.com/video/UPV9WO7hNxg/w-d-xo.html

Thanks ✌
Wow Very beautiful 👍
thank you so much
What fun for y’all - very different than an Hawaiian beach -
Definitely much colder too! But still beautiful!
Lovely upload my friend, thumbnail is gorgeous! 👏
Much appreciated, I hope one day we will get to make it over to your neck of the woods!
Great vid big dawg ✨🤙💯I did this hike once and won’t ever do it again 😭
Haha! Appreciate it bro, definitely isn't a walk in the park.
How long did it take you to get to the falls?
It took about two hours for us to get to the falls. the distance is not all that long but you move slow because of all the rocks and we moved even slower because we had our little one with us. But it was well worth it.
Thanks! @@Deanfamilytravels
@@Deanfamilytravels Is it private property? Did any locals get upset?
So sorry I’m responding so late. As you can see with the dislikes on the videos there are always going to be locals that are mad at us wherever we go in Hawaii. With that being said, I found out about this place from a local, and good friend. If you go the way most people do you’ll see signs saying do not enter that are just made by locals, not the state. If you want to avoid that, just go down the front of the bridge where there are no signs and then head up the stream.
@@ricepresidentsjust remember that to some this is a sacred place, treat it as such. I try to not go in depth on its location on Maui to keep it more of a secret. To those who find it, treasure the adventure.
How long did this trail take? To the top?
Hey thanks for taking the time to comment and watch the video! it took me about 3 hrs and 50 min to get to the top (5 miles) roughly. But that includes taking out my drone and stopping to get footage for the video so it can be done faster. Definitely one of the more adventurous hikes on Oahu.
Thank you for your detailed reply. Last week I tried the same place and tried to get to the Stairway to Heaven. However, I didn't know the route and thought it was a straight line, so I gave up halfway through. This was because I didn't know the route that would take a left turn. This time I watched your video and learned the route. I think I'll try it again. Thank you for the wonderful video. Please keep doing a good job.
@@yuyasugeno1127 so sorry that you missed the turn! When I did this hike I actually passed the turn as well but then I saw someone in front of me turn around and I asked him if we were supposed to turn at the trail and he said, yes. I followed his lead and it was correct. Next time just watch for that sign on the left side of the trail, you can't miss it! I also recommend to bring some good footwear and even strap on some spikes as a precaution. Good luck!
good drone footage ! Ka'au is pronounced like two syllables (kuh oww) \uuu/
I must’ve been trying to say it to fast in the video because I’ve been in Hawaii long enough to know how to pronounce Ka’au. Thanks for the comment and as for the drone footage, I just wish it hadn’t been so windy so I could’ve gotten some footage from the top of the crater.
My wife and I climbed it yesterday morning. What a great view from up there! We were delayed by a bunch of wild goats on the trail.
Heck yea! I have seen those goats over there but never ran into them on the trail.
Beautiful very nice video
Thank you! And thanks for taking the time to watch!
Oh, I remember this trail. Plan on doing it again. Thanks for your videos, they help.
As long as you are willing to watch, we will keep posting! Thanks for watching!
Where's the trailhead? By the cave on the street? Plan to visit the cave this month and a hike would be nice. Thanks
Glad you found this video, the first TH-cam video I made and it was an accident which is why I didn’t show the entrance. If you’re facing the cave go left further down the road. You’ll see paths that people have made cutting into the grass. Follow those paths and you’ll slowly make your way up to the upper cave. One tricky spot I’ve seen people get confused on is as you follow the path through the tall grass it will take you to a rock face as if you’re supposed to go up a cliff…. Don’t even try. If you’re facing that rock face, you need to keep going left.
Thank you
Nice hike 🚶♀️ Oh, i would like to do the upper part. I didn't know about the upper part - thanks
Thanks for watching! The upper part can be a little tricky to get to but it is definitely worth it!
I like side by side views
Thank you! I’m just having fun with different video editing tools!
This is a beautiful place, just wish it didn't cost so much to visitors. When I get to live there again, I'll buy a pass
Agreed, I wish it didn’t cost so much. But it is beautiful!
Thanks for these videos. Visiting soon with a 1 year old
Thanks for taking the time to watch! Let me know if you have any questions about any of my other videos or other hikes. Best of Luck!
Thank you
What a beautiful labor of love - Andre - well done, what an awesome way to preserve these precious memories.

Thank you! Also, love the content on your channel!
Incredible vista's captured and amazing photos and documentation. I believe you have a future should you decide to do photo journalism. Beautiful work!
Haha, I’ll stick to it as a hobby for now! Easy to capture beauty when it is so abundant as it is in Hawaii. Thank you Reno!
