  • Hawaii is the most expensive state to live in. Because of the high costs, many locals are leaving for the mainland. Join me today as we learn from a fascinating Hawaiian local Elijah McShane about what it's like to live in Hawaii: the good, the bad, and everything in between.

Haw A i'i is Polynesian God Clan that baptized. A Royal Priesthood. Born of the spirit. Ke Akua is Holy Spirit. Ke'a Kua is Cross we bear. My ohana has Christian Hawai'ian English Name. Awa Ke'a is Red Cross of Blood Cross. Mau Na. Ke'a is SOUTHERN CROSS IN SKY. HAWAI'I has relationship with Jesus Christ of Nazaret. if Ohana didn't baptize in 1800's when Kaahumanu did pilgimage we would have NO HAWAI'I.
We would be? A Tu'i? Now we need information on A Tu'i & Tu'i Tonga before Hawai'ian Kingom time period. Some of us more related then others.

Hawaii had a Queen and was a sovereign kingdom. It should have never been annexed or "taken by force" by America in 1893. America tried to annex the Philippines in 1899 and the Filipinos fought back. 20,000 Pinoys dead but they stopped America from doing to them what America did to Hawaii and the native Americans on the mainland. Hawaiians chose peace to save lives but they lost everything in the process.

Kinda a bad comparison since the Philippines have population of 10s of millions while there were never more than a few million Hawaiians. The USA was never really enthusiastic about have the Philippines as a colony and they promised it independence almost immediately. That had no plans to do to the Philippines what it did to Hawaii

    • @mixflip
      @mixflip 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@yomanleavemealone9815 the Americans had huge plans to colonize the Philippines. The Americans helped the Pinoys fight off the Spaniards and when freedom and independence was promised… America denied them and just tried to replace Spain. The Pinoys hated this and fought back. 20k Pinoys died fighting the Americans. America even invented a new handgun and caliber called the 45acp in response to the Pinoys specifically.
The fact is America leaves a base in every country its goes to war with. There are huge bases in Japan Okinawa Korea Germany Iraq and Afghanistan. ( up until the horrible pull out that killed 13 marines)
My point is Hawaiians should have used asymmetrical warfare and guerrilla warfare to fight for their country if they didn’t have the weapons and big army. It worked for Vietnam and the Taliban. America lost the Vietnam war and the Afghanistan war.

Buy land in Ka’u, I own my own acre for just $6K! Instead of paying rent for $2K each month in Kona, OV Acre lots are more affordable. It’s not for everyone and more rural, it’s far from everything and the gas and stuff here is just or more expensive than Oahu but I’m grateful as a kanaka I can actually live in my homeland and not have to be pushed out of paradise. I’m still struggling day to day but it’s worth it because now I’m bulldozing and having the choice on how to design my future home and acre how I want too. It’s in lava zone 2, on the slopes of Mauna Loa and closer to the vent but just like my ancestors, the ancient Native Hawaiians who lived here long ago respectively lived here with the earthquakes, vog, eruptions…It’s a give and take but many local families own their own homes and land here because it’s still affordable and we make do with what we can get while still living in Hawaii. ❤

I love this series. My wife LOVES Hawaii. If not for kids she would live there. I enjoyed it but could not live there. When on Maui we had an interesting exchange with a Hawaiian. He said my wife was welcome to move and live in Hawaii, he said I would take some "work". Our trip included staying in a village in upper Maui and on the beach. No resort. utilizing the local markets and shops. Peter, you are right, every beautiful place in the world is in the same situation as Hawaii. We found people in Hawaii that said yes, move here. We found people who said thanks for visiting but don't ever think of moving here, you are not welcome to move here. This series verifies for me the situation and culture of that dual mentality. Thanks for your creative content Peter.

I’ve heard so many stories from friends, coworkers and strangers (on social media) about how much the native Hawaiians hates outsiders. My family immigrated from Thailand to USA in the early 90s and we’ve always shown so much respect for our new land. It makes me nervous going to Hawaii because I’m not gonna spend a large amount of money to a place only to be told you can visit but don’t come live here.

Today, Native American population is 15 million, while the European population, in the Continents of America + Europe, is a staggering TWO BILLION! A shockingly sad truth. 😔
In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return to rightful owners Native American people.

Excellent video. Henry J. Kaiser was a big developer in Hawaii after WWII and I bought a condo from Kaiser Pacific when I was in the Navy on Oahu in the 1970's. His claim to fame was a career in aluminum and cement, building the Hoover Dam and founding Kaiser Permanente to provide medical care for his employees on that project. During WWII, he built hundreds of Liberty Ships and around 100 escort aircraft carriers and then built the Kaiser automobile after the war. Needless to say, he was a successful entrepreneur and infatuated with Hawaii. It was a carefree time when I was there but the enormity of the social pressures has created an awareness which wasn't prevalent then. I've been watching a lot of historic videos on Hawaii and wondering if I should go back to end my days and this one digs deeper than most. Both of you did a great job on this one.

Mahalo for the video, I was raised in Hawai’i and speak the language and am a cultural practitioner. There are really valid reasons for leaving the place where many of our ancestors bones lay, but to be honest the primary reason for me leaving, not the islands but the US, is the high cost of healthcare. I have seen friends having to make fundraisers, go-fund me or sell their property to cover medical bills. Although I am in good heath now I do not want my wife to be burdened with any expenses if I need extended healthcare. I now live in a country that has excellent affordable healthcare and insurance coverage that covers the entire world, with the exception of the US. This is a uniquely US issue.

Anybody who's been to Hawaiin islands previous to the last 15-20 years used to see how beautiful it was. Now it's literally just like leaving California to go to California 😢 there's a Starbucks on every corner the whole entire beach is full of tourists. The things that made Hawaii Hawaii are gone it's very sad!! Big money ruins everything just a fact !!

Yes, the same things happen in Europe,Germany to , beautiful places are crowded by tourists and rich people are buying holiday houses there, the locals can not afford the living costs .(see for example the island Sylt in Germany).

Common cycle of cool places being blown up and ruined. Money often ruins those places. The rich move in, drive prices up, push out the locals and culture with it... the place becomes something homogenized remnant of what it once was then people wonder what happened to the place.

Wow Peter, fantastic episode! Delving into the heart and soul of the rising generation of the gatekeepers and teachers of Hawaiian culture. My mother’s family lived on Oahu 50 years ago for a time to transition from living in New Zealand to the mainland US. The aloha spirit was planted in their hearts then and carried on through the generations.
Aloha is similar to cultural values of respect, honor, and compassion in other Polynesian islands and yet it is unique too. Elijah explained it well from his kumu, Hawaii is uniquely positioned to help the world live a higher spiritual way. Many are drawn to the mana of its islands and people. They feel aloha, and as the darkness and suffering continue to escalate in the world, truth seekers will be drawn to learn from those with greater wisdom and love rooted in the light. Bless the rising generation of Hawaiians who are preserving aloha, in all its ways, and teaching through example and love to the rest of the world. I pray their efforts may be blessed by heaven so the Hawaiian people can thrive in the islands and others will learn how to honor the land so it is not lost to selfish and bureaucratic interests. Aloha forever!

Born and raised in Waianae on Oahu, but moved to CA years ago. It was a trip going from Waianae to a place where majority of people had no clue about the history and culture of HI and the people/Kanaka’s..but I realized it isn’t talked about or educated outside of HI. So seeing this type of content is so cool and I love that the REAL kine stuff is being shared. I hope this slightly change people’s mindsets when they visit, because when you go with love and respect for the land, it’s history, and the people on it is when you get to experience the HI we all know and love! Mahalo Peter and Braddah Elijah!!

Hawaii had a chance to change everything when COVID hit.
But they chose to follow Gov Ige when he shut down everything and handed out $5k tickets for going to the beach or Auntie's funeral. Except for the Japanese community because the flower shops are critical personnel.
HI could have elected Duke Aiona, BJ Penn, or Kaiali'i Kahele as governor in 2022, but you picked Josh Green.
The Democrats show almost daily what they think of the the Hawaiians.
The Army wrecks up historical sites, and Secretary Warmuth blatantly says she doesn't care.
The Navy pollutes the water supply, and they refuse to remove the oil tanks.
The government was warned in 2014 about possible fires in Lahaina because of the invasive grasses, but they did nothing.
Lahaina burns down, the government shuts off the water, and Biden shows up to crack jokes and issue out $700 checks.
Stop voting Blue. Vote for locals only. If they weren't born in HI, they shouldn't get your vote.

Unfortunately these days Hawaii attracts more of the liberal hippie mainlander type, than the conservative voting country homesteader type. And sadly many of the locals and other recent migrants like from Micronesia have fallen into the habit of relying on government welfare benefits paid for by taxpayers. When I was going to high school in Hilo in the mid 2000s there were kids who purposefully planned to have kids without getting married just to get the single parent benefits.
