    It's astonishing how after so many miscarriage and successful pregnancy with mistresses, none of them ever thought that maybe marrying anyone related to you is a bad idea.

      @BB-zs9vh 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      I was thinking the same thing, too. I'm studying my family, and I've come to the conclusion that the Royal family would only marry within the extended family if there's benefits that would preserve the monarchy in England and as well as its wealth. Some of these King's and Queens were torn between wanting to live a normal life and experience true love and a sense of duty to England and the monarchy. As Tina Turner used to sing, "What's love got to do with it".

      You'd think, but you have to remember, King Charles is his own second cousin twice removed, because his parents - Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip themselves were second cousins once removed, with both of them being Great Great grandchildren of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Bare in mind, King Charles is technically closer related to himself, than he is to any of the other Monarchs in Europe, and he is related to almost all of them.

      Although there are possible health issues for children born of consanguineous marriages, it is _unlikely_ that had much to do with the difficulty George III's children had producing heirs. The two oldest brothers separated from their wives very early on. A couple more brothers didn't bother to marry until there was a succession crisis with the death of Charlotte, Princess of Wales. And the king kept his daughters from marrying until they were pretty much past the age of fertility. (Charlotte did have one stillborn daughter, I believe.)
      Okay, after watching it again, I acknowledge he mentioned one marriage (William's) resulted in four miscarriages/stillbirths/early infant losses. I looked it up, and the early infant losses, at least, were due to infections (one in the mother, the other in the baby.) So...likely not due to consanguinity, either. There are plenty of women, even today, who are prone to miscarrying, even though their husbands are not closely related to them.

    The first three minutes and already there are mistakes. George IV did not have an affair for most of his adult life, he married Marie Fitzherbert, the marriage was annulled as he did not have his fathers consent which was required as he was heir to the throne. I've gotta hand it to Queen Charlotte: she was probably smart (but also kind of brave, given how the procedure hadn't existed for that long) to have her children inoculated against small pox. Although the deaths of Octavius and Alfred were terribly tragic, she probably managed to keep more of her children alive by doing that than not. Having 13 our of 15 reach adulthood was doing pretty well for that time period. Thank God we have reliable vaccines and antibiotics now and losing a child is a very rare (though perhaps, for that, all the more painful) experience.

It always seemed so sad to me, but to them it was entirely normal !

    15 kids I suppose what else was there to do? Plus they lived each other. But popping out 15 I believe 13 survived. I'm intrigued what became of the descendants of the children. QC was 3 generations related to Queen Elizabeth. Which will make sense as Their is Germany heritage in the Royal Family. If you think about it the Royals are not true British. Prince Phillip was from Greece his mother married Prince Andrew of Denmark and Greece in 1903. She also experienced Mental health. Including 2 of the Queens Close cousins who were locked away in a mental institution. So Mental illness runs through the Royal Family its not knew but was shunned in those days.

    I know that this may be a tough question to answer much less to try and gauge .....but how much in contact with and or how close was Queen Victoria to any of her German cousins by way of her Uncle George, or her dear Uncle Leopold?
    I know of course in the early part of the last century the royal family did everything that they could to distance themselves from their German lineage. However coming forward into today's time period I wonder how their German relatives feel about basically being 'ghosted,' for well over a hundred years, knowing full well exactly how much they are intrinsically, by blood and heretedy they are related to the remaining older members of the royal family?
    Charles, from what i remember actually hasn't visited any of his German relatives probably in more than a decade correct?
    I wonder if on the other hand they are just as happy as clams to be separated away from all the drama !!
