    I appreciate you responding to the question “how do you have time to sew and do house work?” I have six children and I homeschool and work part time. I get this question so much and let’s be honest it’s not really a question, it’s a statement. If you love to do something, you make time for it and you shouldn’t have to answer to others about what you’re allowed to accomplish because they can’t seam to accomplish as much as you do!

    Thanks for your Organization Challenge! On Sunday I pulled boxes, bins, bags and other assorted items out of closet and shelving unit. Found I had flannel/fleece in 2 places. Packed my 2 whole battings with some other batting items, put batting pieces in another bin so able to get to for mats, placemats and runners easier. I did get 3 bags of give away items and am currently going through magazines to give to a friend who wants them. I keep thinking "Am I really going to make this?" when I see an article. I still have too much but better knowledge of what I do have now. I need to get a couple things completed so will empty more bins and hopefully NOT refill them quickly! I feel better about my room now but still more to go!

    I also struggle in letting fabric go to a good home. The one area I did go through was the shopping bag full of left over scraps. I love the look of “organized “ scrappy quilts but I know I will never make one. So I went through that big bag - and found several little treasures! So glad I did that bit of organizing! All of the other bits and pieces will go to another home. I feel so liberated knowing I really don’t need to hold onto them.

      Find a group that makes charity quilts or consider making charity quilts. My group made 171 quilts for Lutheran World Relief last year. I donated some of the fabric and made many of the quilt tops and it was very rewarding!

    Thank you for going thru your bin!! It made me realize that I do the same thing...just stuff things back in the bin even if I'm not going to use them again for a long while..and some I can just get rid of. I was raised by my Grandmother who lived during the depression..I always say I got my "hoarding" from her because of the depression, but her house never looked cluttered and if she got something, she used it or got rid of it. So after this video, I realized I can't use that excuse anymore and need to take a really truthful look at my hobby stuff. THANK YOU!!!

Oh and I did find lots of dust LOL.I did love the way you answered the question on housework and sewing it was perfect.

    I think I hit the deal of the century at JoAnn today! Their storage bins are all on sale. I got six ArtBin Super Satchel, 1 compartment, 15.25" x 14" x 3.5" containers. I ordered them online and picked up in store in order to get an additional 25% off the sale price of $10.99 each!! They had eight in stock but I didn't want to be greedy so I left them but they had more in diferent colors. Mine are clear with blue handles and latches. Now, I'm going to have to do more reorganizing to find a place for them. I plan to use them similar to how Pat is using hers for projects. I agree with what she says about how hard it is to get rid of fabric. I don't have any sewing friends or relatives who need it so when I do get rid of it I'll probably donate to a charity that makes quilts.

    As far as donating fabric, senior centers will take them for craft projects they sell. Also, my quilt guild has a sharing table that you can donate items to and others can take. If you really don't want it but want to know it will go to good use, those are good options. You can also donate on Craigslist under Free stuff

I sometimes buy fabric with a plan in mind and then later I completely forget what that was. I have a planner so I will have to find a place to put that. I have scraps that are box store scraps and I do not really have the room and yet I am struggling to get rid of it

    How many rotary cutters will "you" keep in the basket? How many will you keep in total of the same size? If you only cut in your studio, how many would you recommend having? (I have 1 at my table, one in my to go bag - I trim scraps when sewing with friends - & 1 that keeps "me" questioning why I have three 45mm rotary cutters.) I know just like fabric/personality, the answer is different based on available space, etc. You have more space than me, but not a lot more, so I'm very curious how you use your space.

    • @carolp1581
      @carolp1581 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am about ready to toss several of my rotary cutters. A couple are not working right so may be dangerous.
      Some companies will replace them. I have a few different sizes for different jobs. For small piecing squares, I use a small 28mm to trim them up. The larger ones work great for multiple layers.

      I had a toggle bolt in the ceiling ( like you would hang a plant from) with a hook. Hung a section of link chain and used the metal shower curtain hooks and would hang my rulers. All were visible and took less space than if they were on a table or shelf.
