Knee Replacement in Roeselare, Belgium - Mako Robotic Surgery

Since April 2018, a robot (the Mako) is used during knee replacement surgery in Roeselare/Belgium (www.orthopedie-roeselare.be).
During surgery, the robot gives the surgeon a lot of information about the patient's anatomy and ligaments, and helps with cutting the bone very precisely.

My girlfriend had a partial knee replacement at this hospital. She was looking at a minimum 12 month wait for an operation in British Columbia, Canada. After weighing our options and taking into consideration her pain, additional complications caused by waiting a year or more and lost income we decided to pay the surgery ourselves.
It was the best decision we could have made. The treatment we received from the hospital was first rate. The price of the operation was very reasonable. Our hotel and food bills were cheap compared to prices back home. We stayed for three weeks after the procedure to allow time for her to recover. She went in to the hospital for rehab every second day while we were there and toured the Ypres and Passchendaele War memorials as well Bruges and Ghent.
Our only regret was that we did not stay longer. One more week would have made her plane ride home a lot easier for her to bear.
We will be returning though. We became very good friends with her physiotherapists and our doctor so will be returning next spring.
