Not shown in this video, but the NBC coverage showed Allie immediately hugging and celebrating with her friend who made the team. I know Allie isn't disappointed in her performance, but she did miss out on the team, and to immediately be able to shift gears and be happy for someone else says so much about her personality. Great athletic performances will be forgotten and surpassed, but that kind of show of character is the kind of thing that I always remember and root for.

What do you mean you weren't close to being an Olympian?
You made the finals of The US trials and came only 4 places outside the qualifying positions in the fastest US trials race ever. That's very close.
How many previous trial races would your time have won.
So proud of you. You ran your fastest race ever and never gave up.

Add in the fact that you met the Olympic standard, so you have the chops to qualify...it's just that there are those ahead of you.
Look at all the competitors that finished in the top 3 (even #1) but don't have the Olympic standard behind them....
That is what slays me. There are races and events where none of the top 3 have hit the OS, and then there is the women's steeplechase, where the top 8 all did it. What is worse - to make the top 3 and not make the olympics because you didn't reach an OS? Or to reach the OS and just get beat out because others were better? I think the latter is better. It's not that you weren't good enough to make the Olympics, but that there were too many other Americans who were better.

While it's fun to see people have dream days, some of us can relate, and be inspired, way more by people who give it their all, fall short, and choose to be thankful and joyful anyway.

And you took on the hardest steeplechase race of ALL TIME in the qualifier and still ran a PB and was only a few seconds behind having a legit top 3 shot. Your performance would have easily qualified you in previous years, just turned out the field was stronger than it ever has been and you still were in the top group. Impressive.

You did great, Allie. Fighting COVID, the extreme stress, a crazy-hot pace, and the greatest steeple field and race in history, you hung in there like a goddamn hero, fought through that moment of horrible doubt, clawed back, closed great, competed right to the line, beat a lot of really good women, and grabbed a 7 spot and a 9:21 in the greatest race of all time.
You should be proud as hell.
And you know you can still do a lot more. The jumps can get way better, your fitness is still developing, and you're still young.
You can probably run 9:10 next year if you want to, or close to it.
(Personally, I think you should get yourself into a few more steeples this summer, and drop that PB closer to 9:15, before you move to some trail stuff.)
I hope you can relax a little now, feel empowered by your accomplishments this year, and run free and strong the rest of the season.
Huge congrats to you, and thanks for letting us all watch and ride along with you, and I hope to see you throw down some great races soon.

So, so proud of you! As soon as I saw that this video was posted, I dropped everything to watch it. You did amazing in this race with a PB of 9:21. It's been incredible to see how much you've improved (mentally and race-wise) throughout the years. I have to say, my jaw literally DROPPED when you said that you were 20th fastest in the world, 7th fastest steeplechaser in the United States. That is truly amazing. You're already an Olympian to us. Keep it up!!

you've inspired me to find out what my body can do, rather than just fussing over a number on the scale! I am due to run a half marathon in 3 weeks, and honestly if I am finding a run tough i remind myself that you have overcome so much, I can suck it up for a few more KMs.

It’s so gratifying to see how far you’ve come. It was thrilling to watch you in the finals of the Olympic Trials. Amazing and inspiring. Also, I just realized how much I like your theme music. I find myself humming it when I run, which I took up after watching your videos. Thanks, Allie.

I don’t even have a clue who you are but I’ve been following you recently. I’m so proud of you! Your character is outstanding and you’re 20th fastest in the entire world and PR’d with lingering covid symptoms I’d imagine. I’d call that a win. God bless!

You said you weren't even close to being an Olympian, but I think you were close to being an Olympian, so much closer than so many people. There were only four people in front of you that kept you from becoming an Olympian!

You are an inspiration to many young girls. I wish you had been in a different lane. You clipped some time off your PB, which is amazing. Keep being you!! I've made a new goal toward walking, bc of your story. I was a runner in HS with an ED, but as a 47 year old woman with RA, it isn't possible to run anymore.

    From 59 year old runner.
    Good to have pre-race plans
    BUT
    1) learn to priorities your planning; you had two things, running inside and position; which is the most important, inside or position? In a final, I would say position. That should have been you priority for the start of the race, inside lane could have been established later.
    2) Be prepared that things will most likely not go as planned and that one has to improvise, ALLWAYS!!!
    3) If you had flu so close to the race, I think you actually did very well! I'm not sure of your age, but you seem quite young, thus time IS on your side. Stay positive and keep working.
It is essential to decide what you want. If it really is to be part of your country's Olympic team, just let this one go and start your process for the next one. As I said, time is most likely on your side. Most ladies only reach the peek of their short to medium distance running, in their late 20's to early 30's, and from their mid 30's onwards have very successful marathon careers. Thus, stay the course, you've got this!

I wouldn't say you didn't come close, 4 spots off and 14 seconds away is not a waste of your efforts. You also ran a PR which is pretty much all you can ask for besides running a time that would raise eyebrows and suspicion of PED's. You already made a World Championship team and that's no small potatoes (reference to Boise State). 🏅

  • @krakhour2

I would say you were very close to being a Olympian. Only 4 people away from it. That is fantastic. Also being Olympian from the USA is the toughest thing . Its not the same as running in a smaller country. You could have changed citizenship and made the team in Canada but it is more impressive to me that you have top 20 time in the world. There is some girls that will be at the Olympics with slower times so you got to feel like time wise you should be there. Honestly I think you were in 9.10 shape you got boxed in and shuffled back at first and like you said hard to see the hurdles coming. So you could have ran at least 10 seconds faster that would have put you right there

  • @bushmasterflash

A PB is the best anybody can ask for in an event like this and better than people should expect.
All the women in this race are outstanding runners and 7th place is very very respectable. You were awesome.
Better hurdling may get you a few more seconds but not that many.
I think your tactics were on the money for the best time you could do on the day.
The World Championships are only 2 years away..............
