    oilrig example does not make sense.
    Lets say he collects 10 million investment from investors to buy and oil rig. He "stabilizes" that oilrig and buys it back for lets say 12 million.
    Why would he need a fund if he already has that 12 million to buy it back? He could have bought it at 10 mil in the first place.
    You also say "he buys it back from the profits of his fund" - while the profit of his fund (after sharing with investors) would be only a tiny portion of oil rig value, so no, he can not buy the rig with the profit of the fund.

      He could buy back the oil rig using bank debt and equity from his share of the profits from the fund. He is not coming out of his own pocket for the 12 mil.

    he uses the FUNDS money to buy OIL RIGS , and then, as the GP of the fun, buys them back, using his GP Profits ........... thereby REMOVING the source of the Fund's revenue stream ............ what am I missing ?
