I looooove gator! It’s one of many things I am looking forward to having again when I go back to Louisiana soon. I live in Alaska now, so it’s hard to have it on a regular basis.

Oh how cool! You were in my old stomping grounds 🥰 I left the Florida panhandle for North East Georgia 2.5 years ago. It's such a unique area of Florida that used to be "undiscovered" compared to central & south Florida. From the vast ecosystems, some of the worlds most beautiful beaches to the nicest people you will ever meet. So happy this area was part of your journey - love watching your adventures!!

Did the handle bar camera survive the mount snapping off? Just wondering how durable the gopro is. I assume that Kathy, from the boat tour, was also having dinner with you. Did she lead you to that particular restaurant? Cool lady.
I've tried alligator, it was ok but not a revelation. There is a restaurant up my way that always has a special with some kind of meat other than the usual pork, chicken or beef.

I have had gator tail bites, yeah thought was sort like chicken too. Catfish can vary depending if farm raised or caught fresh I believe.

Never had alligator, but love catfish. Would beg to differ catfish has a distinct taste. But that's just me. Love catfish, broiled, baked, sauteed, stewed, or deep fried. 😋

Fried Alligator is the most neutral way for people to try it. Blackened Alligator is better and to experience the true flavor, I find it best in an Alligator Sauce Piquant! It is delicious!

Catfish is so different if not deep fried. If you get it broiled or blackened (cajun style) it is much more flavorful.

I've had gator. Yeah, tastes like chicken, minus the chicken. I did like the texture.
Regarding catfish, the flavor is largely dependent on farmed vs. wild. Farmed is nothing. Wild is gamey and interesting.

Awesome. Never did that route. I have been a more northern cross country rider. These days i like to do a loop verses a strait back and forth. My bikes of cross country travel over distances have been a GT750, R90/6, K100RT and an R1200RT. Many more have graced my garage but these were all the long distance mounts. When i make my next circle of the states it will be on a BMW RT for sure. Simply the best.

Excellent content, as usual. Good on Nelson-Rigg for providing the rain suit -- and that it was HiViz. I've had a N-R tailbag since 2005 and still going strong. Unfortunately lost my tank bag on a recent off-road jaunt (magnetic pads gave loose off the rear tail plate so not a manufacturer's fault - mine - didn't strap it down.) Wonderful cave and swamp side-trips, too! Safe travels back west.

    Hello!
I'm Dmitri, I really enjoyed your video, I've been riding for then 30 years! Never cross country? Yet..? Lol!
I have tried alligator, not deep fried? And I thought it hat a clean somewhat fishy/chicken taste..? But me being from the (New England area) and an hour from Maine..?? In Cambridge, Massachusetts. I thought Alligator had the consistency of lobster tail!! I tried alligator on a trip out to Sedona years ago!
Enjoy the rest of your ride..?? If your still on the road..?? Oh by the way, I've been told that I'm guessing its a state highway? from say northern California into Oregon...?? Is suppose to be the most beautiful road to ride on in the United States..?? Thanks And speed safely! Dmitri.

The alligator I ate was grilled and I thought it was a bit like chicken with a fish flavor. I thought it was pretty good. I've caught and eaten catfish for years here in Montana. Started with catching them in the Milk River when we live in Glasgow. Just got back from a catfish fishing trip in Forsyth. We usually do a light pan fry with them and make fish tacos, yum! We also learned from a guy in Glasgow that grew up in Mississippi how to eat carp, he called it Mississippi shrimp, and, man, it was delicious but so unhealthy due to the need to use a deep fryer.

I love the enthusiasm and genuine appreciation you showed to the lady who took you on the swamp tour.
For the days when you just have to pound out the miles, I say leave mega early. Leave at 2am. If you stop for breakfast at 10am, you'll have done 8 hours of riding and would still have most of the remaining daylight to get to your destination.
For power I have one of those battery banks, and I can charge it while it charges some other device.

Haven't had alligator, but, if you've ever had bad catfish, you'd know that what you ate is excellent. I've had some muddy catfish and it is disgusting. With regards to rain, not that I like it, but I would prefer to have to rain suit up mid ride cuz I ran into rain, than have to suit up to leave. I always say I don't mind riding in the rain, I hate leaving in the rain. Changes your whole outlook.

  • @KillerNetDog

Having made several thousand mile plus bike trips, stopping at a hotel/motel now and then makes a big difference, cheap motels are an adventure all their own. I also always looked to change gear from tents to bags to what I brought and what I didn't evolved quite a lot as I did more long trips and made things a lot more pleasant and easy. As well, I wired my bike for charging GPS/phone etc. as I rode. Storms are what overpasses are for.
I've never been able to find a reliable way to keep visibility through my visor in a torrential downpour. I did finally settle on using water with a few drops of dish soap for anti fog in a small spray bottle, spray it on the inside, let it dry, don't touch it and try to keep your breath off it and it works great for me. spit works decently, learned that trick from scuba diving mask fogging up.
As for strange meat the strangest I ate was Kangaroo burger, at little restaurant run by some Aussies while riding the length of the outer banks. I was riding with a friend from Australia who insisted we eat there when he saw it. It was absolutely delicious.

No alligator but yes on the catfish. Right out of the river from behind our house. The thing is they make really exceptional smoked fish as that’s what we always did with them. Much prefer them that way vs fried. Maybe for those that don’t know they really have quite a bit of oil; maybe more than like smoked lake trout. They’re not like a flakey white meat walleye fillet. The only way I can describe their texture smoked is firm and solid.

End screen crew. Alligator taste like the breading and the dipping sauce. If you want to try catfish for flavor, get the whole fish fried where you have to pick it apart. The source of the fish can make the flavor. Catfish are bottom feeders. They can taste muddy.
You need to look at a body of water in the south at night with a flashlight. You will be surprised at all the gators that are looking at you! Their eyes are like reflectors.
