Oh goodness aren't those comments annoying!? The 'I'll tell you what I would've done' from the comfort of my couch!? You made the best choices as they appeared to you at the time and had an adventure.
The sheer joy you shared upon lifting that bike, just awesome. You are such an intrepid and courageous explorer. Big props to you Amanda, so much admiration for you.
Just glad you're doing OK and made it safe with out breaking yourself . Bikes can be fixed or replaced but people don't heal as fast as ordering new parts.
Anyone else CLAP and CHEER out loud when she lifted that bike?? Amandam this is one of your best storytelling videos I've seen of yours YET!! Super captivating!
Amanda, I'm always amazed at the times I go down, often NOT on the worst of the roads, but just in the moment of surprise. Plastics can be fixed/repaired/replaced. The bike is a tool to be used for its intended purpose, not a prize to be mounted on a trailer, perfectly clean and polished. You owned it. You admitted the "kerfuffle" and even included the video. Kudos to you for your honesty and transparency. I am now a Patreon of your channel. I also love the BDR routes.
Thank goodness your crash wasn't too serious. Glad to see that you were able to "get back on the horse". Thank you for once again sharing great rides, beautiful places and lessons learned. You truly are an inspiration for the rest of us.
I have a 22 AT AS. I'm 5'8 and 160lbs. The bike is remarkably easy to pick back up. I saw the comment pinned. I was really glad I had lower engine guards and steel cases when I crashed. The only damage was trashing the mirror, which is cheap to replace. People saying negative about it, I've only ever owned 250's and its a very easy bike to take on honestly. The hardest part is learning the 5,000,483 buttons and options.
you know something iv been riding since i was 7 years old im now 60 ,the way you handled the situation was truly awesome and inspiring , i admire your adventure spirit , as i say to all i meet on bikes always read the road ahead on /off road ,ride safe , bless
Thank you for a very telling video and lesson on riding when you're not at your best. Glad to see you're able to recover from your migraine. On our Great Divide trip in August 2022, I woke up in Yellowstone with severe vertigo. I had to crawl to the picnic table for breakfast. Recovered enough to ride around Yellowstone that day (still not fully recovered). Should have stayed in camp, but pride and not wanting to hold my partner back, headed north. 2 days later, probably from the vertigo symptoms, I had a get off resulting in being unconscious for 6 minutes. Thank goodness my brand new NeoTec saved my head and face. Released from hospital that day, back to Afton, WY, then foolishly continued on resulting in a 2nd crash/concussion and ending the trip. This was a hard lesson for me and my riding partner: If anyone in your group has an illness/condition that affects their riding.....DON'T RIDE!!!! It's not worth saving a trip at the expense of potentially screwing up yours for the rest of you life! Fortunately I've recovered.
So even though it sucks to eat it, I still think this was a very positive video for a few reasons: First, the point you made about listening to your inner voice is so true. Tons of times I have ignored it or gone offroad when feeling foggy or not 100% and have usually gotten myself into trouble. Second, despite eating it, you got up, got back on and completed that leg - which is always a positive in my book. And despite the cosmetic damage, the AT shows it can take some bumps and keep going for sure (outstanding bike). I switched over to an ADV bike 2 years ago and I ride offroad a pretty decent amount now, and eating it occasionally is just part of it - fixing the damage is too (I am on my 3rd set of plastics on my T7! lol). End Screen - I think I would definitely say the WYBDR especially from your riding footage - absolutely stunning. Great post as usual.
@@AstheMagpieFlies This was a timely video for me. You just have to ensure you stop if your body is telling you to and don't hesitate to get back on the bike once your are ready. Love your channel and thanks for the view into your adventures!
Hey Amanda, Glad to hear for the most part you're alright. Yep, always listen to your inner voice. Like so many when I ignored mine, down I went. Thanks for the beautiful views and Prayers Flying for safe travels!

I just bought an African Twin…and was browsing TH-cam, when I found your video. The rest of TH-cam is full of reviews. Your video was wonderful and inspiring. I'm usually pretty wordy, but all I really need to say is "the things you do are awesome". Great spirit, really compelling videos, great story-telling style and composition. I found your "Make better travel Videos" via search and am hooked. Thank you. BTW I get those visual migraines also, but am fortunate not to get that level of headaches. About your FAQs, it's hard to believe those comments would even come up, I think most of those answers were already in the video content. Finally, just to say as others have said, that victory as you brought that bike to a stand was just epic. I felt it. Best of luck to you..
I just did my first solo motorcycle camping trip and it was definitely a scary experience doing it on my own, so I commend you for your efforts to reach the places that you've been able to solo. Very inspiring! 😄
Glad that you came out of that get-off in “good” condition. Very well discussed about the snowball affect of having a migraine, and how it led to your day’s events. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome. Inspirational. The Garmin In-Reach is a fantastic device that has saved me once when I had a major breakdown on The Lolo Pass. Good luck in all your adventures. Live your life, ride your way. People will always criticize and be Monday Morning Quarterbacks. Remember, Noncombatants are the bravest people in the world.
I lived and motorcycle in Wyoming for 25 years and I sure miss the summers and the scenery. The Snowy Range was my backyard and I spent countless summer days tearing up the trails on my little KTM 250. Great ride and I’m so impressed with your ability to pick up that bike!
I bought my A.T 6 months ago and planning long distance trips. Almost got every tool which i may need to fix the bike if anything breaks. But your video answered the biggest question in my mind . Now i know what to do in an emergency situation with no signal on the phone. Thanks for sharing.
You always go through beautiful areas, and being from coure d alane idaho, I miss the mountains. Watching your videos is a blessing... thank you for doing what you do.
Wow that was quite the gnarly crash! My heart was pounding watching that, I think most of us have had that experience of slow motion whilst waiting to immenently hit the floor, to then quickly check that all our limbs are still attached XD. Glad to hear you were okay :)
I'm so glad you came thru that with as little injury as you did. My heart sank just hearing the immediate aftermath of your drop. 😩 Wonderful music, by the way. 😊
Glad to hear that injuries were light from the crash and that the bike exited that event with minimal damage. Really nice video w amazing scenery. Thanks.
Great Video and story. I can emphasize. I have a 2020 AT DCT and was alone in the back country and went down and had to be rescued. I was ok, by a miracle, but it made for excitement and adventure. A powerful lesson. Preparing for my next long ride around the western half of Australia. All the best.
I got very sick on the road once. I had to cut my trip in BC shorter. Didn't get to see everything I wanted. Since, I always plan an extra day for long trips just in case. If nothing happens, I have a rest day for exploring or I can just get home early. Beautiful video, by the way. They get better every month since the beginning.
I think there is hope.for me when a rider and traveler such as magpie knows this driving with a sickness was a mistake still pushes through and does a nasty mistake. We all do it but seeing magpie do it to, gives me hope. 😄 🤣
This video really resonated with me. I rode my GS on some remote trails in NE Wyoming in September and found where my grandparents homesteaded 100 years ago. Thoughts of getting injured that far from any other human definitely crossed my mind. The landowner knew i was there, but I felt very alone. I managed to keep the bike right side up and was glad I made the trip. Coincidentally, I stayed in the same room in Thermopolis in 2017.
Glad you're okay! I rode past you at the Get On ADV Fest in Sturgis. You were in the campground when I rode past on my 21 Africa Twin and gave me a thumbs up. Big smile behind my helmet. I didn't get a chance to come say hi - but I thought that was pretty cool!
I get ocular migranes too. There is no pain until the geometric shapes disappear, then mostly just a slight headache. The real problem is, there are blind spots in your line of vision. First one happened when I was on a 30 foot ladder when I was in my 30’s. I’m mid 60’s now and probably have had 25 or so over that period of time.
Ahhh this was so enlightening to watch-thank you for sharing!! Coming from someone that's only ever ridden street and VERY interested in touring the BDRs, this kind of knowledge/experience is so very helpful for someone like me! I don't have anyone to teach me the ways of touring, so I find videos like yours so encouraging! Way to kick ass in a situation like this SOLO. It takes courage to see all of the positives from learning opportunities, instead of seeing them as reasons to quit-you're one tough cookie!👏🏻🔥 As always, wonderful story-telling and editing Amanda! Your videos help me get through the cold winter months!😊 Ride safe, and hope you've healed up since this video was filmed🙏🏻
Kudos for staying optimistic and unfazed in the face of adversity. I’ve had similar experiences and it really shakes your confidence. But you kept going!
On the subject of migraines…I swear by photochromic lenses, can’t live without them, cutting out the harsh glare and eye strain whenever I stem outside (you know what I mean). I know some folks hate the slow adjustment when going indoors, but the benefit outdoors far outweighs this small inconvenience for me. Cheers for more fabulous views.
TH-cam is like that, suddenly something comes up that you "fall" into. Today it was your channel. Despite your overturned driving, the rest was nice to watch so I'm sticking around!😉 I sometimes also suffer from migraines with a halo and some hearing loss and wouldn't want to drive then, hope your body feels better and I look forward to new adventures on the channel.🏍️👍
Great video and excellent work picking up the AT. I have the same one AS ES DCT - most of the time I need help picking it up and I am 200 pounds and pretty solid. So she did an amazing job.
Thanks for the heads up Ms. Zito - I will be checking out your vid after dinner. Sorry for your fall. From your photo , looks like you are okay - just got to collect your Chi - Looking forward to knowing you made out okay -
One interesting aspect about motorcycle riders on these trails - you can't easily make horror movies about encountering adventure bike riders while alone in the wilderness. My guess is that when trouble strikes, people will always be relieved to see them in one way or another. Glad you and your Twin were okay - I was t-boned by a truck on mine (same bike) and it still worked well afterwards. Go Honda!
You have so great landscapes in north America. I live in France, where we do have beautiful mountains, but at smaller scale. Most beautiful places are protected areas and offroad is forbidden, you have to travel on roads and walk if you really want to go into the wild. The avantage is that almost everywhere, you will have access to phone network and rescue can arrive quite quick. Enjoy your ride and be safe.
This brings back memories of cycling the Great Divide back in 2007, magnificent scenery, great video. BTW your bike looks better now with it's battle scars.
Your gear definitely saved you from more serious injuries. I feel like anyone who has done any good amount of back road and trail riding has had an experience with a surprise rutt or two. Keep getting out there and doing the thing.
I'm so glad that you are okay...love how you wear your protective gear! I always do, too. I get laughed at for wearing it in the hot weather, but I don't care. I just tell them that I like my skin! I'm a trauma ICU RN and see many motorcycle crashes. UGH.... I love your video's and the way you develop them. Great camera footage, editing and story telling. You're the best!
Glad to see that you are okay from coming off the bike. When I dumped mine about 20 years ago, I broke my collarbone and shoulder blade. So glad that the damage to your bike was just some of the tupperware. Hope your remaining travels are shiny side up. Take care.
Crazy fall. Glad you weren't hurt too bad. I never saw what you hit/went into. I would have dropped it too. As always, great video and attitude. Safe travels.
Thank you Troy! I'm 99% sure I caught a small rut with my rear tire and that triggered the back and forth before I hit the ground. After I got up I saw the rut it wasn't super deep but just enough, the light was very deceiving.
Wow! Your so strong! I myself Am a skinny person, and not used to pick up heavy weights. Picking up my 250 lbs bajaj it used to take a good effort. Amazing channel, really nice music and production there. Safe travels and blessings!!!
Cross rutting is how I've crashed my AT, at least so far. In my view, you did everything right for your situation at that time, no need to explain yourself to anyone. These bikes are heavy and you're a tough young lady. Keep the awesome content coming......
Look at you lifting that very heavy Honda I dread to think me at 61 lifting my Triumph tiger 800 xcx up it’s going to happen. Cary on doing what your doing and keep smiling even if you are in pain.
Dang that was a heck of a fall. Glad you are relatively okay. I think you handled the fall better than a lot of people I have seen, either the power of editing helped or you just really didn't throw a fit😄. Almost as if you, as an experienced ADV rider, have already accepted that eventually the bike will go down and it's really no big deal as long as you are good. Personally I would have cussed a bit and laughed it off. I have had to help my buddy pick his AT/AS up a couple times and that said, you did awesome in getting that beast back upright. I have the same bike but manual transmission.
lol no fit thrown, the only thing missing was the 15 minutes I laid against the bike waiting for the adrenaline to go away and making sure I didn't break any bones lol Thanks BigDave!
I stopped in Thermopolis when we made our trip out there. We were going from Billings to Cody and on to Cheyenne. Cute little town, we got gas and moved on. Be safe, have fun.
I love the ride from Thermopolis to Worland, I used to deliver to Casper, and then Worland. I've only drove through in a semi, but always wanted to stop and spend a day there just having fun. Glad you were ok.
You okay thats the main thing who cares about the bike . Riding alone is always scary i live here on Vancouver Island BC riding in the back bush is risky you can't let that stop you . Keep making those great vids take care !
First, I am so happy that you were able to get up. Having been hit by an invisible flying saucer and having an unintended meeting with a highly magnetic guard rail, getting up and staying up is good. I also carry a SPOT device to uptrain help. And learning from Blanche, "Whoever you are, I have always depended on the kindness of strangers." Please, please, learn and carry on.
Really sorry about your spill and hope you are feeling better. This was one of your best and most enjoyable videos so far. Really enjoyed the clip on the dinosaur museum and the information on route 20 which is the way I want to go when I make it out there. Again, excellent video!
Yea I know how you feel. Ive done that riding out in the BF Mojave desert. Always a thrill when the bike starts up and you are back on your way. Very nice work getting the bike up and getting yourself back on the road. NICE!

Thank you!
I've followed you for a number of years, Amanda. Creds for your being one tough lady! Wishing all the best for you! Ride safe!! 😀👍
Great filming and content. One of your best videos so far. Experience and good judgement showed when dealing with the crash. Well done.
I lived and motorcycle in Wyoming for 25 years and I sure miss the summers and the scenery. The Snowy Range was my backyard and I spent countless summer days tearing up the trails on my little KTM 250. Great ride and I’m so impressed with your ability to pick up that bike!
Another excellent video Amanda. You handled the crash very well. Glad you came through it ok. Looking forward to your next video.
I bought my A.T 6 months ago and planning long distance trips. Almost got every tool which i may need to fix the bike if anything breaks. But your video answered the biggest question in my mind . Now i know what to do in an emergency situation with no signal on the phone. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support Rob!
You always go through beautiful areas, and being from coure d alane idaho, I miss the mountains. Watching your videos is a blessing... thank you for doing what you do.
🙏 thank you for the support!
Great job Amanda! From maintaining a great attitude to lessons learned.
Would love to do the BDR-X for the Red Dessert.
Wonderful music, by the way. 😊
You are always sooo upbeat we love your shows and so much info where you go .
Thank you Mark!
Damn, lady, you are such a badass! That was a ferocious couple of seconds before the impact. I love strong people.
Dan And Buck, you are golden, too.
Glad to hear that injuries were light from the crash and that the bike exited that event with minimal damage. Really nice video w amazing scenery. Thanks.
Thank you Jeff!
You are one tough person! Great video and an inspiration to people who may be intimidated to ride solo.
Great Video and story. I can emphasize. I have a 2020 AT DCT and was alone in the back country and went down and had to be rescued. I was ok, by a miracle, but it made for excitement and adventure. A powerful lesson. Preparing for my next long ride around the western half of Australia. All the best.
Glad you are ok! The AT is just as tough as you are. Way to preserve and share your experience with us.
Such a pleasure to watch ya! Makes me emotional! Keep it up Amanda! Awesome content and hope you can come back down to Forgotten Angels
Thank you!
@@AstheMagpieFlies you're more than welcome! Here cause of you! Absolute Respect! Ya keep me venturing!
Just do the thang!
Thank you Will!
Thank you!
Sounds like a good trip!
I am from Morocco and I watched this video and it was very beautiful. Thank you for this beautiful content
Glad your ok and awesome job getting the bike up and glad friends stopped to check on you …..keep the chin up 🇺🇸
Glad you're okay! I rode past you at the Get On ADV Fest in Sturgis. You were in the campground when I rode past on my 21 Africa Twin and gave me a thumbs up. Big smile behind my helmet. I didn't get a chance to come say hi - but I thought that was pretty cool!
great video, glad you were wearing full gear when you went down.
It takes courage to see all of the positives from learning opportunities, instead of seeing them as reasons to quit-you're one tough cookie!👏🏻🔥
As always, wonderful story-telling and editing Amanda! Your videos help me get through the cold winter months!😊 Ride safe, and hope you've healed up since this video was filmed🙏🏻
That dance at the end looked just like a Rosie dance 💃 so glad it finished well 👏
Kudos for staying optimistic and unfazed in the face of adversity.
WOW! You did BRILLIANT! Great videos and adventure, thank you :D
Seriously thankful you were not seriously injured and the bike was good. Such beautiful scenery... Safe travels
Great video and excellent work picking up the AT. I have the same one AS ES DCT - most of the time I need help picking it up and I am 200 pounds and pretty solid. So she did an amazing job.
Thank you very much
Thanks for the heads up Ms.
Go Honda!
Go Slowish!! I’m amazed that YOU seem to be okay! Best vibes -
You have so great landscapes in north America.
Take care.
ouch!
That was one hell of a lift. Well done. And you never stop smiling.
Those views are absolutely beautiful and I'm so glad you didn't get hurt to bad.
I have the same bike but manual transmission.
lol no fit thrown, the only thing missing was the 15 minutes I laid against the bike waiting for the adrenaline to go away and making sure I didn't break any bones lol
Thanks BigDave!
@@AstheMagpieFlies Oh I agree that was the best thing to do.
I stopped in Thermopolis when we made our trip out there. We were going from Billings to Cody and on to Cheyenne. Cute little town, we got gas and moved on. Be safe, have fun.
Great recovery! and wonderful attitude! Spills happen, it's part of off roading ... love your sense of adventure, Cheers from Canada :-)
You are awesome...picking that bike up was amazing...I'm in awe!
Wow, that look like a tough fall. Your a tough gal and able to lift that heavy bike, congratulations on the quick recovery, glad your ok.
Definitely the hardest I've ever hit the ground that's for sure 😅
Thank you!
Thank you Mark!
Much respect to you uprighting that twin
Really sorry about your spill and hope you are feeling better. This was one of your best and most enjoyable videos so far. Really enjoyed the clip on the dinosaur museum and the information on route 20 which is the way I want to go when I make it out there. Again, excellent video!
Thank you for sharing this video and I'm so happy for you that you're not hurt keep doing on what you're doing you're living the dream girl
Yea I know how you feel. Ive done that riding out in the BF Mojave desert. Always a thrill when the bike starts up and you are back on your way. Very nice work getting the bike up and getting yourself back on the road. NICE!
