Thank you for your video. As a precaution, you should release battery cable first (close to SATA HDD/SSD slot). You could also hold the power button for about 20 seconds after shutting the system down and unplugging the power supply.

@Liam thanks man I been looking for an explanation cuz I heard the same thing "before doing anything, disconnect the power source so you don't ruin anything" And ur the first to agree. I appreciate you man, thanks
How much did you get yours for?** I bought mine a few years back but never played a single game on it. It’s only been used for web surfing. Then just last month, I tried turning it on and now I’m getting the blink of death. Planning to take it to a repair shop soon
Hey buddy! Congratulation for your video! I just bought my "new' Alienware 14, it's a little bit old but works very well. I'll follow your step to add on my machine a SSD Mve 1tb. Let's see what happens ! Take care!
The best laptop i ever had and still use-no other laptop has 4 slots for storage like alienware-A SHAME most only come with 1 slot nowadays-are u still using it?
How do I find compatible SSD hard drives for my laptop. I have this same laptop but this video is 2 years old and I want to see what newer hard drives are available.
It supports the same standard size 2.5" SSD drive, any one will work, you are just checking for price, read/write speeds and capacity. If you are not sure, get the western digital blue SATA SSD. But you also have two slots for M.2 SSDs (2280mm) and one slot for M.2 SSD (2242mm), If you have the same laptop (17 R4)
Hello Yvon, Your video is so much more informative than others I have recently watched. I have a 2018 Alienware 17 R5 that I want to upgrade and wonder if the parts for your R4 would be the same as I should get for mine? Right now they are reasonably priced. Or in my case what would be your choice?
Hi! Yes, you can get the same exact drives as mine because both R4 and R5 have the same slots: Two 2280mm m.2 SSD drives One 2.5" Hard Drive One 2242 mm m.2 SSD drive The replacement process is also the same.
Is that the biggest 2242 M.2 Card you can find & how much? Also because the drive has 2 keys and the connector only has one is there a drive with only 1 key available so that it runs at the most fastest speed??? Thnx in advanced. Also what are your RAM DDR4 recommendations...I can fit up to 32GB of RAM which I want to do but I am currently shopping around for components at the moment??? Again thnx in advanced!!! Great Video!
I got it for $70 bucks amzn.to/3J3J9ax , There are versions up to 2TB of storage, it has two keys, it's a SATA drive, not the faster NVME drive. but it's fast enough for gaming unless you need hardcore speeds. Yes, there is one with a single key way faster (amzn.to/3z2oRJZ). For RAM, go with this amzn.to/3J3cl1B
Make sure to disable secure boot in BIOS settings. If this doesn't solve the issue try a different cloning software AOMEI Backupper Pro is a good option. Also the new cloned drive has to be in the same m.2 socket
New drives do not appear automatically. You have to use disk management in windows to turn the unallocated new drive into a ready to use volume before you can see it in file explorer
Say, my laptop has two drive slots, one for the default hdd and another ssd (that I’m planning to put in). In this case, will I be able to transfer the data across the drives in the pc without a cable?
yes, in my case I needed the cable because there was no free slot left to insert the new drive directly. Using the cable here I was able to clone my old drive into the new one before swapping them. I could've swapped before cloning. But if you have a free slot for the new drive, you do not need a cable
@@YvonSmart thanks my man for the prompt reply. I’m planning to have the new ssd drive to be the default boot drive. So after I’ve transferred everything over, I’ll just have to reconfigure it in the bios to work that way? And then I’ll be able to delete everything in the hdd?
Correct! I'll recommend keeping the original drive intact for some time just in case there are issues with the cloned disk. Sometimes people run into weird issues like programs acting up or other registry issues. Use a good cloning software
If you don't clone your old drive, you will have to fresh install windows (which is fine if you need a fresh start). If the drive is faulty it does not affect the integrity of your files, you can still clone the disk
I dont understand. So you're replacing a 1 TB C drive with 1 TB? Isnt it the same thing? It looks like when you're doing the clone, your C drive has nearly a TB of info on it. What am I missing? I already bought a 2 TB SSD to put into my Alienware R17
Here I'm only upgrading my 2.5" Hard drive (I installed all my games into that hard drive, not in my C drive). I've already upgraded my C drive to 1TB NVME SSD in a previous video. This PC has up to 4 slots: 2X 2280mm SSD slots, 1X 2.5" sata drive, and 1X 2242mm ssd. In this video I upgraded the 2.5" drive and added a new 2242mm ssd to the free slot
Try freeing up some space, maybe there is just too much junk especially if the problem is recent. Then if you can upgrade the RAM unless you are already running 16 or more. If all this is already done, then consider upgrading to ssd drives. Go for nvme drives.
Not if you are cloning your current drive to the new one. Deleting unnecessary files will for sure free up space and eventually fixing 100% disk usage issues
Not on Alienware 17 R4, the processor is built in. But you can on Area 51, even though it's new tech on laptops, it might take a while before other laptops get it
hate to burst your bubble but, you have no NVME SSD drives in those video. they're both SATA II ...nvme and m.2 are not interchangeable terms. nvme is a considerably faster technology than what you've got here
@@YvonSmart he's actually correct both of those are sata ssd "older tech" with 600mb per second while NVME like that 970 u have have write speed of 3200mb per second. Honestly u should have your operating system and games on the 970
@@YvonSmart No worries! I just watched that video and I think you're a boss for having your laptop set up how you did it! Those dorks don't know what you did in your other video.... LMAO......GOOD SHIT MAN!!!!
