There are lots of videos showing the SSD install but yours is the first one I found to show how to get the machine to recognize the new drive. Very simple and very helpful. THANKS!

I bought the Dell M.2 2280 SSD Thermal Shield because I read it was needed for the M.2 ssd, so it won't over heat. Yet in your video, and others, I see that you don't add a thermal shield to your Alienware R3/4? Has it held up fine with gaming? No overheating?
    Thanks for your time.

pat yourself on the back. you did a great job of narrating this process for newbies like us--and it gives me confidence to buy this laptop knowing that you can have three SSDs loaded in it (but I would only use one over the PCI-E lanes.

Yeah Yeah... Battery disconnect, I fast-forwarded past it anyway... so who really cares..? 99.99% of the time its just fine.. Awesome clip! Luv how quick and simple you made it! Best how to clip EVER!!! Peyton's relaxed tone was able to dispel/disperse my anxiety! So thanks!! The part I needed was the ending on how to allocate and recognize the new SSd anyway.
Now I need to clone and move my OS over to the new SSD... I'm using MECURIUM, the 30day trial version..
Then I have to remove everything and send this thing back to Dell so they can get my keyboard lights working again... don't need any of the other lights but they are all connected..
I LUV my Alienware 15 r3! Just can't beat FOUR, 4 bays for hard drives in the Alienware 15 r3!

Great straightforward video Peyton!!! I'm new to gaming laptops and I haven't used Windows for a long time, I've been a Mac user but I got my first gaming system and it all seemed alien to me, funny how my first gaming system is a Alienware 15 so I'm alien to Alienware and Windows 10. I think it's great that you're video is a complete tutorial that explained the hardware installation and what to after it's installed. One question about the disk management, I noticed that it's giving me the option to make the drive basic or dynamic, which would be better for gaming? Thank You for your time!

Since i'm looking to buy this laptop in the next couple of weeks. Since it' cheaper to buy it with the
180GB M.2 SATA 6Gb/s SSD drive and adding the M2. SDD drive later. Once that is install how would you clone the drive to boot off that new drive... Since you said that in the bios you cant make any changes i would have to do the process you mention by taking one out booting from the new drive then installing the other drive back on then formatting the 180GB drive right?

I hope someone can answer this for me, so I have a 256GB Alienware 15 R3, realized quickly that it was not enough storage at all. I don't know anything about laptops or tech or have any tools anyways. Does my laptop have extra space to put something else in? Do all laptops have that option? I'm tired of going though all my files and seeing if i can delete. I have an ssd but even then safe files and other files still choose to put itself in my laptop so i don't know where those files are if it is even safe to delete them. My first mistake, settling with a small storage. Anywho thanks for your time.

Can you confirm (with CrystalDiskInfo) if you're getting PCIe 3.0 x4 on your m.2 NVMe SSD? The configuration I got had two SSDs in RAID and a third SSD and they all seem to be in PCIe 3.0 x2. I'm thinking if I remove one or two of them then it'll speed up the remaining one(s) but it's a lot of work and hoping I can see if someone can show me theirs working in x4 before I even start the process.

M15 is junk. Runs too hot has a lame max q gpu which can never use all it's memory due to it's severely lowered clock speed and throttling. So glad i sent my back and bought an upgradeable. alienware area 51 for only 400 more that's overclockable. I advise everyone to do the same unless easier portability is an issue for you. The Area 51 build qualty is just so much better. I mean why not spend $400 more for somethings that will last you twice as long.
